2 years as a "Si Fu" : A cup of Vodka and two slaps on the face.

(Com meu Si Hing e sua esposa, e com Si Fu. Esta foi a noite em
que eu e meu Si Hing fomos titulados "Mestres")

(With my Si Hing and his wife, and with Si Fu. This was the night in
that I and my Si Hing were titled "Masters")

(risos).

Well, few people know about how much I like to know about outer space, and the whole history of astronautics, or how I prefer: Cosmonautics.

Well, once hearing a program on the "space race" between USA and USSR, the members talked about the difference in training between American and Russian pilots at that time. One of the participants said with a playful laugh: "... The Russian training consisted of putting Yuri Gagarin sitting on a bench that would rotate through various levels of G force. Before that,  they would give him a sip of vodka and two tapas in the face ... This was the training of the Russian cosmonauts ... "(laughs).

Si Gung somehow managed to bring to all his descendants the deep feeling of commitment to the career of "Si Fu". It has always been possible to see it in Si Fu and feel it inside me. Perhaps, for those who are not part of Moy Yat Ving Tsun Martial Intelligence, or even for those who are part of it, but who are still at the beginning of their journey, think: "Hey, what does it take to become a Si Fu?" .
I clearly remember going through the Via Parque Mall with Si Fu by car, and hearing from him: "The difference between a Si Fu and a father, is that a father learns while raising his son. A Si Fu, was prepared for it."

(Photo after practice with Thiago Silva, in one of Si Fu's former residences)

Over the years, I have always followed Si Fu's path, sure of his leadership. Even in the moments when he took some eccentric attitude to the status quo, I remembered that because of him, somehow that made sense. Maybe it was me who did not understand.
I have heard many complaints from my Kung Fu brothers about some Si Fu decisions, I have always relieved them all, because however much some of them touched me in some way, my loyalty has always been very clear. When something came to me that I could not undo easily, I would take it to Si Fu. Not to ask for explanations, but for him to act with regard to that member of the Family, and who knows how to undo the probable misunderstanding.

I once questioned Si Fu about a practitioner who had been promoted to "Biu Ji": "Si Fu, I do not agree with that! She has no condition of accessing Biu Ji!" . Thiago Silva was in the car, and while Si Fu gave him a ride his mother-in-law's house, he explained his decision in a way that amazed me how deeply he understood the Kung Fu Family and the Ving Tsun System. Years later, I found myself making the same decision, under confused looks, many times from the very person who was receiving access to either the Kung Fu Family or a new Domain in the System. And I was smiling inside.

Sometimes I come to think that the career of a "Si Fu", is in a certain way, something like to come across various versions of the "To Dai" that you have been over the years. As if you were attracting the best and most confusing versions of the "To Dai" that you were and still are. Like magic, everything you've done for your Si Fu comes back to you. Well, that's up to page 2, because the very fright you get when a To Dai takes an attitude that makes you feel deeply hurt on a Tuesday afternoon either. You stop, reflect for a few seconds, and looking inside your  heart, you quickly discover that the hurt is not with the person itself, but with a phrase that forms as a voice of the disciple who lives inside you: "I would never do that with my Si Fu. ".
(Com Si Fu e outros membros do Grande Clã Moy Yat Sang, minutos
antes de sua partida para Russia em 2009)
(With Si Fu and other members of the Grand Clan Moy Yat Sang, minutes
before his departure for Russia in 2009)

Si Fu once told me that the moment we are transmitting the art to someone, is when we actually learn about the technique. This relationship "Si Fu-To Dai" is so intense, involving affection, and according to Si Fu himself, when there is affection, there is an expectation, and if there is an expectation. soon there will be frustration. On both sides. And I could live something that Si Fu said from the bottom of his heart in an opportunity: "The worst of all Pereira, is when the person is hurt with you and does not give you the chance to know why." - And after you've taken a beating from all those feelings, you put the key in the door of the Mo Gun, fill the chest with courage, greet the ancestors and have the pleasant surprise of another To Dai who comes, smiling, well, willing and totally oblivious to everything that happened minutes before. And when you least expect it, you're smiling along with him. And then you might think, "Hey, was not I sad a minute ago?" - Then you see yourself with a new power: An inexplicable ability to reinvigorate, to be willing to receive the next blow, to live the next adventure, very quickly.
(Observed by my Si Hing, during my speech at the end of dinner
on Master´s Degree Qualification night)

When I began to take the first steps on this journey as "Si Fu", I began to worry more about how and what I spoke, how I dressed, what I read, what I watch, etc ... Not for me, but because I understood that I was representing something far beyond my person. However, I quickly realized that it is simply impossible to try to control all the variables, because  your best intention, it will be the most cruel blow that a "To Dai" can receive if he receives it in the wrong way.
That is why, with each and every invisible challenge, I realize in all sincerity, the words of Si Fu, that the "struggle" I always sought was nothing more than the so-called "Little War". And the internal struggle, the one we deal with ourselves, that yes, is the "Great War." And this is the war to be won, the one that will make you no longer have to split your life into "Kung Fu" and "No-Kung Fu," for whatever you say will be Kung Fu. And it is this ability, that of being a better man, than you ever dreamed of being, that will take you to the highest level of your art.
(The hug in Si Fu on his 2016 birthday)

E ainda assim, será completamente irrelevante (risos).

But if you really want to know how to walk this journey, well ... I have no idea ... But not to let you down. Here we go: Choose an excellent Si Fu like mine, get ready from the bottom fo your heart, be very lucky, and if you think you should ... Sit down, take a sip of vodka and ask someone to give you two slaps in the face. .. Because whoever that person is, it will be the most  that person can do for you when this rocket actually takes off ... And yet, it will be completely irrelevant (laughs).

Moy Jo Lei Ou Clan Delegation in Paris : Pereira´s first international travel.

(Si Fu calling my attention to the details of the Eiffel Tower area)

Each Kung Fu family has its own "DNA". In the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family , led by my Si Fu Júlio Camacho, no doubt , travels around the world due to Ving Tsun constitute a fundamental part.
At first, I would seat down on the floor of the the MYVT SChool where I joined the Family, to hear from Si Fu , Stories when he returned from some trip, about how it had been. Some time later, I began to take him and pick him up at the airport or bus station. Sometimes I accompanied him on short trips within the Southeast. But the international travels remained a challenge.

On the trip to China with a delegation of members from around the world, including Grand Masters like Pete Pajil (photo) in the image above, talking intimately with Si Fu in the Ving Tsun Athletic Association, many people told me later : "You had to have been there!" .

(During the days in the USA in 2015, a moment was reserved to visit the tomb of Patriarch Moy Yat.
In the photo, we see my Master Julio Camacho getting ready to place the incense in the censer).

Later in the trip of 2015, when there was the trip to the US on the occasion of the anniversary of Si Taai Po Helen Moy and the international titulation of some Masters and Grand Masters, in which Si Fu was internationally titled by the International Moy Yat Ving Tsun Federation as Senior Master, I was not there. And again, I heard from my Si Dai: "Si Hing, we missed you"

(Farewell photo at the airport. From left to right:

It was on a Wednesday afternoon, which finally happened: The traditional farewell picture before embarkation now counted on me. I had not been on the plane yet, but I had been living this trip for a long time before with the help of my Kung Fu Family.
I must say that I was a little nervous, and holding that bag with wheels, I felt like was the first day of school .

(A bordo do querido e inesquecível RER )
(On board of the fabulous RER)

-  É , eu estava fora do Brasil.

It was a long trip to Paris. When I got off the plane, I could hear an airport employee greet me with "BonJour Monsieur!" - Yeah, I was out of Brazil. Someone would write hours later when I posted the first photo on my facebook something like "From Rocha Miranda to the world." In comments, referring to my childhood neighborhood. In other times, I would think the same. But it was not time to invoke my childhood neighborhood, I was there following my Si Fu and opening a path to something that I will find out later.
All the way from the airport to the hotel, it had been reviewed by me dozens of times, which did not stop holes from occurring. Still, the ride on the RER alongside Si Fu and my younger Kung Fu brother Claudio Teixeira was a unique moment.

(Moy Jo Lei Ou Clan Delegation in France: Claudio Teixeira, Si Fu and I)

Si Fu was totally available to do what we wanted and enjoy the time in the best way with him. I was happy to know how to guide the delegation in several moments thanks to the tutorials and the "walking by" I watched on youtube before traveling. We got off the subway at the Louvre, and as we reached the pyramid, my heart pounded. Only there, wrapped up in those magnificent and centenary buildings, I realized that I was in Europe!
We had lunch on the outskirts of the Louvre (photo above), and later after walking in the "Jardin de Tuileires", we walked to the place I wanted to visit the most: "Champs de Mars".

(Enjoying the view in front of Eiffel Tower with Si Fu)

We passed several completely deserted streets with stone floors and very old buildings. A light wind beat on our faces, and when we felt like it, we would stop for another coffee in some restaurant and then walk again. Finally, the amount of people began to increase, and I was able to see through the treetops the Eiffel Tower emerge. People from various parts of the world spoke in different languages, and for a moment I remembered a few tales of Conan when he, a barbarian from Cimmeria, came to some famous city.
Si Fu finally said: "The Champ de Mars is there Pereira!"-  He pointed to a long stretch of clean, well-groomed lawn where people talked, sunbathed, children ran, different songs in different languages played. We stepped on the grass and finally Si Fu sat on it. I sat down beside him and for a moment we said nothing, just enjoyed it.

("Champs de Mars" in portuguese means "Fields of Mars." "Mars" was the Roman version for the God of War. In the photo, Si Fu rests on the "Champs de Mars")

I felt at that moment that my adventures with Si Fu had reached a new level. With his imminent departure for the US in 2018, it will become more and more common that these remarkable moments occur outside Brazil. And so I think that moment on the Champs de Mars struck me so much: I had arrived at a landmark, that something inside me changed, somehow guaranteed that I will never be left out of any international trip. Whether it's in China, the US or anywhere Si Fu is or my presence is needed.

(Walking the streets of Mont Mart is a unique experience and gives you a silly face like mine. In January 2018 I'll be back!)

Paris delighted me greatly, and for those who have read so far, perhaps the question has arisen: "What did they do there?- "Well, a lot has happened, there is no secret stories, but I could scarcely put it into words here. So, summary just saying: I went to accompany my Si Fu. And that, in "Mo Lam", is enough to understand the rest.

Moy Fat Lei Family Runnin' Wild

The photo above, is a "selfie" taken by Vitor Sá from a breakfast of the Moy Fat Lei Family in the house of Jaqueline Tergolina. Also present were Rodrigo Moreira and Clayton Meireles, members of the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family, and my Kung Fu brothers.
This photo is not only special because of the contagious spirit it passes, but mainly because I was not present on daylol
The idea of this meeting was to promote a "pre-event" for the next Traditional Ceremony of our Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou. And particularly for me, it was very special to know that things are beginning to happen, since this is not the first time, without my presence ...

I believe that in the Kung Fu Family we must strive to maintain good relations with all its members. But occasionally, we get closer to some brothers than others. At such times, Si Fu always caught my attention, never to replace the "Si Hing-Dai" (older-younger brother) relationship for just friendship.
Si Fu said that within the "Si Hing-Dai" relationship there is also friendship, but there are also many other things that would be left out if we focused on only one possibility.
Numa antiga casa do Si Fu. Num aniversário de nossa irmã Kung Fu, Jade Camacho:

I have lived in these years, many strong relationships in the Kung Fu Family, which have provided unforgettable moments.
Below for example: I, Guilherme de Farias and Pedro Correia, on our guitar party. At  Si Fu's former house. On a birthday of our sister Kung Fu, Jade Camacho, also his daughter:

My favorite author, the fantastic sinologist François Jullien. He speaks a little about these strong ties that arise between members of an army or any group that deals in their daily lives with real or symbolic processes of life and death: "... Let us put the worst enemies in a boat, If the wind begins to whip it, we will see them cooperate so intimately in the face of the storm, as our two hands habitually co-operate: it is likewise because of the dangerous situation in which they are launched that cohesion must be born in the bosom of armies ... "
(eu, meu irmão kung fu Vladimir e seu filho Dani . Numa mostra de cultura nordestina no Aterro)
(I, my kung fu brother Vladimir and his son Dani. In a show of Northeastern culture in the Landfill zone)

Si Fu usually talks, that if a relationship does not have much time or is only superficial,   does not go through different moments: Crises, happiness, joy, sadness, smiles and tears ... According to him, any lasting relationship go trough those moments.
However, in the Kung Fu Family, we have something more: Body intimacy. That is, the possibility of someone who hit you with all the ones force, be laughing with you only a moment later. Or, that your Kung Fu brother so close to you, needs to be punched at some moment ...

In the photo we see in the right corner wearing glasses, Clayton Meireles and next to him, Rodrigo Moreira. The rest are members of the Moy Fat Lei Family.

The purpose of this meeting was, as said at the outset, to prepare the following event:

MOY JO LEI OU CLAN FIRST TRIP PART 1

(Three generations in one photo: Si Fu, myself and my To Dai Pedro Freire)

(* Si Gung - Mestre do Mestre , Si Fu- Mestre , To Dai - aluno , To Sun - relação do To Dai com o Mestre do Mestre).

The Blog next year will complete ten years of posts of several types. I've written about movies, books, video games, Kung Fu Life, techniques, events, my relationship with my Si Fu, tributes, etc ... However, regardless of the subject it was, one thing they all had in common : Never failed me what to write.
With the recent trip to Sao Paulo for some meetings of the Masters Council and the anniversary of the Si Taai Vanise Imamura. Si Fu for the first time  traveled as a leader of a clan with two generations below him. The Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou. In this delegation were my To Dai Pedro Freire (photo) and my Si Dai Rodrigo Moreira.
This trip was so, so striking to me. That before returning, talking with Si Fu, I realized that for the first time had no words to talk about it. I did not know, in nine years, what to write for the Blog, and more importantly: How to describe what we live to my brothers and To Dai ?
While I organize myself to this new configuration that is present in my day-to-day, I can write again here on the Blog the phrase said by Si Fu to me when I made my "Hoi Kuen" (Admission Ceremony in the  Kung Fu Family): "I hope you joinning the Family it's not just by chance ..."
Over the years I made many efforts to ruin everything (still do the sometimes..lol). In addition to my efforts, there were also the obstacles of the path that will always exist: About lack of time, priorities, financial issues, lack of support, etc, etc ... - But despite all this, we got here.
I always watched "The Karate Kid" (the original version) at least once a year. At worst scenario, after a trip with my Si Fu, I had my fantasies to appeal. But I do not remember a movie on a Si Gung and Si Fu traveling with a To Dai and Si Fu at the same time, traveling with a To Dai and To Sun* (* Si Gung - Master's Master , Si Fu Master, To Dai - student, To Sun - the relationship of To Dai and the Master of the Master). This is because this first post I am not entering my Kung Fu bro in this super diverse party ...
I heard once one can realize when a practitioner of Kung Fu is a rookie. Looking at the picture above, I see three times as different, whether in posture, in the form of dress or attitude. I now see that it is also possible to see when a Si Fu is new in that position.
It was very precious to look all that Si Fu helped his Si Fu, my Si Gung, to build in his career, such as when the table of the Masters during the anniversary of the Si Taai on Saturday night, four of the present Masters, had practiced under the trusteeship of Si Fu in Rio, which represented Si Gung, because he lives in São Paulo.
And I think when we sit inside his car that Friday morning and was given to start the car. I got a little as a year ago Si Fu said that only there, his career had come in half. The work to mobilize me, and future Si Fu that welled up in our Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou, to take care of the Thirteenth Generation, represented by descendants as Pedro Freire.
Well ... We have much work ahead ... and many more years of "Blog do Pereira (The Peartree´s Blog"

Visiting Si Fu´s house:[Visita a casa do Si Fu:]

With silly face and thinner, too tangled up in college and also very happy. I made my Baai Si on a Saturday night in May 26, 2007 (photo). Among those who participated in this ceremony that the Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou considered the most important moment in a career of a practitioner of Kung Fu, Was my dear Kung Fu younger brother (Si Dai) Vladimir Anchieta (photo).
I heard the term "YAP SAT DAI JI" the first time in the early 2000s during a lecture Si  Gung at the Hotel Florida in the South Zone of Rio. At the time, I was praticing the  Cham Kiu, I was very concerned with this term, and over the years, I realized that: Yap Sat Dai Ji is the "Disciple who enters the room."
A disciple (Dai Ji) that has access to a "room" that no one else has. But not because he is special or technically better than the others, but because he is close to his Si Fu.
Si Gung also told once, many years ago, that he used to sat next to his Si Fu Moy Yat as he watched television eating soup or eating something without saying anything, for minutes or hours. But Si  Gung  says vehemently, just being close to his Si Fu, was already learning. Even if nothing was said, the learning was being passed.
Also, we could cite the very Chan Wah Shun, who took over the pharmacy of Leung Jaan when he withdrew, or own Si Taai Gung Moy yat who took care of his Si Fu Ip Man when he became ill and several disciples and students went away.
So today, I believe the "YAP SAT DAI JI" is not a "ranking", but a condition that will be maintained or not conform life goes ....

Visita a casa do Si Fu:
Visiting Si Fu´s house:

To this day, I entered four houses of which my Si Fu(photo) ever lived. In the first two I only used to visit him when I had a problem: "Hello Si Fu! Can I go there?" - It was common for this type of calling . In the last one and at this apartament now, I have some pride to have visited only because of Kung Fu and not for personal reasons. I do not believe you can not search for him in difficult times, but its hard to understand a little better the nature of this relationship and how to enjoy the moments with him. I credit my better understanding to the openning of MYVT Meier School, who helped me get the focus of my problems when I realized there were more people to look after.
I understand more and more how to take better care of them, I end up taking care of me too.

Guilherme Farias, Marcelo Ormond and Claudio Teixeira had a meeting with Si Fu at his residence already. Each had a different subject matter. I, who had taken breakfast in the morning with him hours before I was invited as well Glauco Gavioli.
When we arrived at his home talked a bit about the new management being implemented in the Schools directed by the Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou and I could met the daughters of my Si Fu again: Jade and Julia (the first being the oldest).

We chose to go downstairs to the common area of the building and Marcelo Ormond stayed in the apartment repairing Si Fu´s pinball machine.I coordinated a practice of Cham Kiu between Glauco and Gui and Si Fu was talking to the Claudio Teixeira. At one point Si Fu (photo) came to observe how the job was running, and made some comments in addition to practicing a bit with Glauco. No doubt a special moment.

Si Fu helps his disciple,  Glauco Gavioli to better understand the "Seung Siu Sau" ("Answer with two hands") from Chi Sau of Cham Kiu. Guilherme watched carefully and I preferred to register for the Glauco who contributed taking photos to the clan, can have his moments also eternalized.
A Si Fu does not have to be typecast in the feeling of doing nothing and just say catchphrases, or a Si Fu being active all the time, does not leave "emptyness" to be filled by his followers. Knowing the exactly quantitate of these "appearances" , verbal or physically, is very difficult. So when the student (To Dai) practices with an older Kung Fu Brother(Si Hing) or his " Younger Kung Fu Uncle" (Si Suk) it allows the Si Fu -To Dai (Master -Disciple) is sheltered and that at a time like this registered in the picture, has a much greater impact than it would if the fact of doing practices with his Si Fu,  was common for Glauco.
E existiu nosso grupo naquela tarde (foto).

There are disciples who never or rarely meet the Si Fu. They remain disciples, but as Si Fu once said: "... Kung Fu is at the Mo Gun ..." - There are disciples who attend Mo Gun, but as I heard Si Fu once say once to a  To Dai: "we never eat lunch together is important for us to see more each other, even outside of the Mo Gun ...."
And there was our group that afternoon (photo). No one in this picture entered any room in  addition to other people there. But the disciple who does not attend the Mo Gun, the one who attends at least t is a "YAP SAT DAI JI" to the first. For us who were in the house of our Si Fu,we  are "YAP SAT DAI JI" for those who just attend the Mo Gun ... - There may be several layers of this relationship, but for me it has been important to understand that sometimes you want to spend time with your Si Fu and must not or can not. Further, you want, you can, but should not, perhaps because of a urgency. Other times, you wanted, you should, but can no longer do it.
Therefore, I believe in the importance of  think once more beyond the first tought which is usually an excuse not to go.. Because who knows that second thought, you find out  you wanted to, you can do it and you even should  do it. Explore further this relationship ...

The night also featured an  championship  of "Just Dance" organized by little Julia (photo) .. hehe We sweat as we danced hits like "What a Feeling" from the movie "Flashdance" ..lol It had much more things to be told from before, during and after this moment, but these stories I tell in person, maybe one day, in my house ...

A NEW SI FU IN RIO (UM NOVO SI FU NO RIO!)

On March 18, 2003, Si Fu hung the "Jiu Paai", symbol of his Kung Fu Family, on the wall for the very first time. Jiu Paai is offered to the disciple by his Si Fu, it can not be done by decision of the disciple himself, as its value is in the symbol of delivery itself.

The young Si fu Julio Camacho still did not know who would be his disciples. Thiago Silva and Carlos Antunes names were not even in dreams passed by his head. So like everyone else. But some of them, like me, Vladimir and Si Hing Leonardo, were already  part of Jacarepagua School. But still were part of Family Moy Yat Sang, we had not decided to migrate to his Family yet. In fact, I did not even know that was possible. Therefore, we must all thank the pioneering of Si Hing Leo to think of that possibility before everyone else.

For the Mo Gun be according to that night, the brothers of Si Fu at the time as Si Suk André Cardoso (photo wearing glasses) were essential. And his future students as Vladimir Anchieta (photo) and Nelson Carvalho (background) also helped.

The youngling Ursula Lima (photo), now the only woman in the world that is qualified Master by  Moy Yat Ving Tsun International Federation that night helped her Si Hing Julio in this new phase. There were still seven years for her to become Master from that night, but all these awakenings were still in the field of immanence.

"To my dear disciple Moy Fat Lei to use forever" - (from Julio Camacho)

O Jiu Paai da Família Moy Fat Lei é pendurado.
Jiu Paai of Moy Fat Lei Family on the wall.

No movie I've seen more than the classic of classics "Bloodsport". And I think every day before going to school in 1993 when I was nine years old I used to watch it. Today watch once a year, because the small Thiago inside me even asking it. But the film does not have the same emotion. Not because it was outdated, but because I can no longer identify myself with the character of Van Damme.
I always wanted everything: deadly fights, Hong Kong, tight jeans, a soundtrack by Stan Bush. But mostly: Having a Master!

Si Fu has given me the opportunity to call him "Master" so masterfully. And now it was my turn to try to provide the same for a new generation: The thirteenth of our lineage.

So, while hanging my Jiu Paai on the wall of Meier School  Last December 23, I realized I could still see me as Van Damme in the movie, because I continue to be a disciple and having a Si Fu, but now, I need to learn the other side of this relationship. For this, I will need a To Dai who is on the other side lol

But for tonight I could have due regard, my  Kung Fu brothers much earlier that afternoon helped preparing the Mo Gun as well as Si Suk Andre and Ursula the made for Si Fu years ago.

Talking about me here never made much sense, but today I think I could not do otherwise. Because to occupy the chair reserved to the Si Fu of the Mo Gun, I was not sure what to feel or what to expect. Si Suk Ursula said that the chair would give me some kind of "state of shock"  lol I did not feel this shock..lol But when I positioned myself in that chair to sit down while supporting me in its arms, I was thinking only in Si Fu. As I sat, I looked up, where are the stamps of the ancestors and was following with my eyes one by one until the empty chair beside me, reserved for Si gung of the family and looked inside of me.

My brothers present there, asked me about my journey 'till that day. While I was answering, I remembered the old "Mortal Kombat" movie trailer from 1995 , when the voice of the narrator said: "Nothing prepare you for this!" - lol

I never wanted to be a Master, I never knew that sitting in a certain chair could cause sensations within us. In fact, I did not even know there was something called "Jiu Paai" .Even having passed the eyes for many in so many films of the Shaw Brothers. The only thing I ever wanted was to have a Master. And thanks to seeing the value that my Master Julio Camacho gave to all these elements, I learned to value them and most of all respect them between hits and misses.

But most important of all: Right now, somewhere has a young man or woman who may be watching "Bloodsport". Perhaps that person change neighborhood and pass through a lot in the new school and new neighborhood. Maybe this person renewed hope when recalling his/her heroes movies memories, and everything that seeks is to have a Master. Or maybe ... Just be someone who wanted to do an activity after work and discover himself as an outstanding disciple ... Well, no matter ... because from now on I will always be there. Continuing the work of the legendary Master Julio Camacho without forgetting Van Damme that a part of me still wants to be..lol
