Why does GM Leo Imamura not give up?

Me senti em casa.

There is a viaduct that connects a region of Rio known as "Samba´s masters land" to the Rocha Miranda wild neighborhood. When I drive up that viaduct, for a few seconds I can see much of the neighborhood where I grew up, and I feel at home. For a brief moment, life's problems seem to disappear. Recently, however, the Rocha Miranda has become more dangerous, my best friend has many commitments and hasn't had time, and even the restaurant where we used to have Sunday lunches has closed.
Perhaps that's why, sitting with the sunlight in my eyes at a table in Manhattan Bakery on Friday morning, when I saw Si Gung walking towards us, where my disciple Lucas and I were waiting, I had a feeling similar to when I drive over that viaduct towards Rocha Miranda neighborhood. I felt at home right there. I walked up to the door to greet Si Gung and fetch his suitcase; he arrived with a smile. I didn't know what time he had gone to bed or how tired he was, but he seemed happy to see us. Once he sat down, I remembered I hadn't even taken our orders yet, but he didn't admonish me for it. His mere presence was enough to elevate our attention to another level. Without sermons, without lessons, without discussing anything unrelated to our work, Si Gung swiftly transported us to the "Kung Fu Dimension". His breakfast ended quickly, but he showed no intention of leaving. He continued to discuss pivotal and pertinent matters about our present and future, clearly indicating through his demeanor that he wasn't there just to eat. I've heard someone said that "home is where the heart is."

We started the morning with a true gift, which was the opportunity to observe Si Gung leading a class. Watching Si Gung work makes you feel ashamed of your work ethic in passing down the Ving Tsun System (whichever it may be). The level of attention to detail and his way of encouraging excellence (without forcing it) compel those watching to remember not to give any less effort than he does in studying the System. In fact, I was deeply moved to see him rise to provide details about the "Siu Nim Tau" (photo above) in the manner he did. There were three masters present, and yet he made a point of doing so. It was something very special.

Então, você poderia me ver ali pensando: "Ei!

In moments like these, I naturally empty my heart regarding everything I think I know, and I listen to Si Gung's guidance as if hearing about "Cham Kiu" for the first time. From the order of the tutors to the orientations, everything is done with great care, coherence, and zeal. You don't feel exposed and, by not fearing "losing face", you can let the eternal apprentice within take the lead. Today, I heard Si Gung say, "The time that the disciple... that the practitioner makes available... it needs to be worth its weight in gold to us..." And indeed, he does this every second. So you could see me there thinking, "Hey! Let me pay attention to this so I don't forget..."

Si Gung takes advantage of his visits to São Paulo to spend time with his parents and resolve personal matters with them. He also opens up his life so that we can be present in these moments. "So, Pereira? Where do you want to have lunch today?" he asked, as he usually does. Due to my "Korea phase," inspired by the cultural richness I've been learning from my dear friend Choi Ki Hon from São Paulo, I suggested once again a Korean restaurant. And there we all were! During the journey, I was able to talk with Si Gung about martial arts books and Chinese culture. Si Gung typically relates the subject to some theme that directs the safeguarding of the Ving Tsun System and how to better understand this mission. This constantly helps us to not forget our mission and to leave the amenities for another time.

We returned to Moy Yat Institute where we talked, and he once again encouraged me to dedicate myself more to developing my own understanding of things. Shortly after, I attended a Biu Ji class of his son Lukas Imamura. Afterwards, we went to the barber shop and discussed more about the current state of the Clan on the way. Finally, when we returned, Sensei Ricardo Leite and Edson, who is a practitioner in the Ving Tsun Experience Programme (photo top right), arrived soon after. My disciple Lucas also arrived (photo top left), and there was Si Gung again! The same energy he showed when he arrived at the bakery at 8 a.m. And there I wondered: "Why doesn't Si Gung give up?" - It's a valid question, considering all the challenges his position also brings. However, earlier today he had also spoken to me at the same bakery: "The difference between us is that we don't work... We love what we do. A person works at something they don't like five days a week and needs to unwind on the weekend; when the difference between working days and rest days becomes too disproportionate, they take holidays. We don't take holidays... We love what we do..."

Eu nunca desisti.

Watching Si Gung work today once again was deeply inspiring. You know, I managed to be fully present in every moment, even later when he gave an interview to Sensei Ricardo Leite, until we said goodbye shortly before 1 a.m. The fleeting feeling I get when I drive over the viaduct connecting the neighborhoods of Madureira(Samba´s masters land) to Rocha Miranda(my childhood neighborhood) lasted the entire day today. There were no issues, nothing outside mattered; there was only the renewed enchantment with the System I chose to study 25 years ago. I understand that for you, the reader, you may not fully grasp what I'm trying to describe. However, Si Gung also said in his interview today: "...Symbols exist to reach certain levels of consciousness that simple description cannot reach. Hence the difference between prose and poetry..."
]I have never given up.

Study of Level 6 with GM Leo: No more coffee with milk

A few months ago, I conducted a study of Level 6 of the Ving Tsun Experience Program with Si Gung. It was a very special work, during which he could share throughout the process a series of details that sounded completely new to me regarding the study of the Ving Tsun System. There is a possibility of information sharing in the Ving Tsun Experience, which, when conducted during the Kung Fu journey in the Traditional System, may compromise the nature of the Baat Jaam Do Domain, in which silent transmission reaches its peak.
I used to not understand the reason for the existence of the Ving Tsun Experience Program and found the emphasis given to it strange. After spending more time with Si Gung, I could not only observe how this program is worked by professionals who follow it, but also observe how Si Gung himself uses it and updates it constantly. At those times, I remember when the program updates arrived in my email, sometimes I didn't even open them because I didn't understand their importance. Today, I realise how each line that generates a new version allows for more consistent work. I could also witness the importance that Masters who follow this program give to its updates. - "...I thought you did very well when you opened the file and read it with Edson! That's the idea! You don't need to waste time memorising the Ving Tsun Experience list, you already have a lot to worry about in the Traditional System, so what you did is exactly the logic of the Ving Tsun Experience tutor..." - Si Gung would have said on that Thursday night.

I seek to learn from Si Gung at every moment. For example: He always seems to be doing something on his notebook, and indeed he is. That doesn't change the fact that he maintains attention not only to what is being said, but to what is happening. Sometimes he raises his eyes, arches his eyebrows as if paying attention, sways his legs in and out, and depending on what he sees, he either raises or resumes typing. This dynamic reminds me of the year 2006 when I used to assist my Si Fu with the classes of Paula Gama and her daughters Anna and Adda. During those afternoons, they were accessing the "Biu Ji" Domain. Si Fu sat in his chair, sometimes tinkering with his computer, sometimes simply observing what was happening. For me, it was a very important process because I felt like I was assisting, taking into account the limitations I had.
Similarly, on Thursday night while mobilizing Edson at Level 6, incredible 18 years after those afternoons of high adventures with Si Fu at the former MYVT Barra School, I have the opportunity to watch Si Gung knowing that he is monitoring. After all, when I return to Rio, I will be on my own, so I always consider it an excellent opportunity to learn what not to do.
There was a guy I met in 2018, the boyfriend of a friend; he was a salesman and referred to himself as an "eagle". - "It's because I'm an 'eagle' guy,"- he would say. I found that logic very amusing because indeed, he was an unparalleled salesman. You would sit down with him to eat a snack and feel like buying an air conditioner, for goodness' sake. And I wondered: "Am I an eagle guy in my field?" Therefore, my recent contact with these attentive professionals at an eagle level immediately turned me into a "coffee with milk guy" in that group. Instead of feeling bad, I felt very motivated to now aim for new levels of understanding about the System and the Programs. So, on this Thursday night with Edson, after two years of hard work, I was finally doing a reasonable job within the most updated Level 6 of the Ving Tsun Experience Program. Master Quintela often says that if you practice for ten years from now on, it will be ten years of high-level study. So, it's a very good feeling of a fresh start and rediscovery that I've been experiencing.

Observar o progresso do Edson é algo sem paralelos.

Observing Edson's progress is unparalleled. I've been able to witness how Edson evolves with each visit to São Paulo. Many of my disciples have been able, in a subtle way, to contribute in some form and have benefited from it. I am truly impressed by how the Program fits in a systemic way. Si Gung seemed very excited when we went out for dinner. My disciple Lucas was in the car and could share in the feeling of how satisfied Si Gung was with how things were unfolding and with what had happened that night.
During that week, I received a video that spoke about the importance of not "working too hard" because life passes by too quickly. I receive many videos with this theme from the few good friends I have; many are concerned about the level of immersion I live in. On that day, I sent the video to Si Gung and asked for his opinion. "...I find it very useful for those who simply work too much. On the other hand, this has been an excuse for many not to exercise their existence," - he would have written. So, on that Thursday, I felt a bit of that. It had been two years of feeling lost, behind, outdated, "coffee with milk," and much more... But somehow, in a way I can't explain, during those minutes studying Level 6, I felt that something clicked. It was like a sigh of relief to know once again that there is no magic in the Kung Fu Dimension, and only with a lot of study can one get there.
I don't expect anyone reading this far to understand what I'm saying, but these are just fragments of memory to express the feeling I had with Si Gung and Lucas in the car that Thursday night. And I remembered Johnathan Kent's words to his son Clark in my all-time favorite TV series "Smallville" - "Work makes the man honest, Clark."

Let's do this!

WHY I DECIDED TO BECOME A MARTIAL ARTIST AT 40

This is me in 1986, in the photo I am with my dad and two of his brothers. While I hug my dad, you can see me wearing a cap. It wasn't just any cap. It was one he gave me from LOTUS, the team that Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna was racing for at the time. The 98T car is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful of all time, due to its livery inspired by sponsor John Player Special.
For some mysterious reason, my dad greatly respected someone with a good memory. He used to make bets at work, involving money, based on his ability to memorise long serial numbers present on the currency of the time. When he picked me up at my mum's house, on the ascent of the Madureira viaduct, you could see the logo of Nacional Bank. My dad asked me whose bank that was. I replied that it belonged to Senna because Nacional bank sponsored Senna. My dad would then make me repeat the entire Formula 1 grid at the time, with all the drivers' names and surnames, as well as which team they were with. As a result, I ended up developing a liking for Senna and Formula 1...

Perhaps one of the most emotional moments of my life was when Si Gung [photo] asked me: "...Thiago, do you want recognition or knowledge? Because if you want only recognition, I can give it to you. There are several ways to help you with that... Now, if you say you want knowledge, you'll have to be ready to work hard. More than you ever imagined... And one very important thing: No holidays!" - He said, smiling and remembering a story - "... You know, once we were in an immersion week twenty years ago, I asked if anyone had any questions and one of your Si Suk asked: 'Si Fu, but when will the holidays be?' - He laughed and continued - '... In our field, our holidays are while we work because we love what we do...' - Si Gung became serious and continued - '... In this field, if you don't love what you do, after a while, you won't be able to go on... So I ask you: Are you ready to work like never before?' - I replied yes...

When I said yes to Si Gung's question, I was already a Si Fu with disciples and had been working in the Méier district since 2008. However, quickly, through very impactful examples, I discovered that I had a long way to go... The contact with Master Tiago Quintela made me realise that it's possible to be an explicitly caring and relaxed person and still be a respected professional. I also had more contact with Master Gabriel Mendes, someone who understands the System in a very impressive way, earning the admiration of all. Additionally, I got to know Master Felipe and Nataniel again. Master Felipe, an extremely conciliatory, thoughtful, and serious person, and Master Nataniel, even with almost his entire life as a disciple, follows his Si Fu like a beginner. All these examples inspired me to become a martial artist at the age of 40. Therefore, I decided to restart my study of the Ving Tsun System from scratch and, after each qualification opportunity, reflect on what it means to be a professional in the martial arts.

This decision was supported from the outset by my Si Fu, who has always supported all my decisions over the years. Many times, believing in me more than I do myself.

After months of observing my Si Gung more closely, through his conduct as a martial artist and professional, I realised that I didn't know what I was doing until then. I felt like I had reached a 'ceiling', but didn't know what to do, so it was like I had finally discovered.
Si Gung prepares every moment of the day attentively and patiently, but what impresses me the most is his beginner's spirit. He doesn't worry about saying he forgot, doesn't remember, or didn't understand. Quickly, he opens his computer and checks the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Programme, exactly as he always asks us to do. And during the day, when Kung Fu Life occurs almost spontaneously, he never deviates from the subject and even when it seems like he does, he ties it back to something relevant to the understanding of the System. It's a capacity for monitoring, attention, and care for the journey of each disciple and student so great that I sometimes felt ashamed of what I was doing until then. At those times, I reinforce my internal desire to improve. Not to improve for myself, after all, any praise I receive I owe to my Si Fu. But to improve for my disciples, who are the ones who will actually speak about what kind of work I was able to do.

- Teria dito ele. Então eu decidi que é nessa dimensão que eu quero atuar.

Thanks to my father, I became a fan of Senna [PHOTO aabove], and one of the most interesting moments of his was in his famous interview on the  'Roda Viva' show, where the journalists seemed mesmerised by Senna's answers to the questions. He responded in a way that made it clear that what he was doing was much more than a job, but a way of life. It was as if he was talking to people who lived in a different dimension from the one he lived in.
I decided to become a martial artist at the age of 40 because the interaction with Si Gung in recent months brought me the same sensation: that Si Gung was in another dimension of conduct, understanding of the System, professionalism, etc. - "...There are practitioners who practice the Ving Tsun System their whole life and have never been in the Kung Fu Dimension... Some enter for a few moments, but leave shortly after..." - He would have said. So I decided that it is in this dimension that I want to operate.

MAAI SANG JONG! PEREIRA X QUINTELA X FELIPE!

[Almoço com Si Gung]
[Lunch with Si Gung]

Eu sou legal, hein!” - Si Gung, claro, percebeu.

I believed that Si Gung was gently guiding me over the past year, like an adult pulling a child on a tricycle with a cord. Later, it seemed to me that I could already ride a bike with training wheels, and I realized that the training wheels had been removed that afternoon - "So what if you poked him in the eye? In the 'Kung Fu Dimension,' that kind of behavior doesn't fit. Why are you apologizing?" - Si Gung asked me vehemently and with a very serious look as we took a break from the "Maai Sang Jong" we were doing. I was very out of breath. There was a certain dimness in Si Gung's vast living room; I felt my two Si Suk looking at me, but I could only stare down, trying to catch my breath. I wanted to put my hands on my waist, but I remembered not to do so after numerous reminders from Si Gung in recent months about proper martial conduct. Down a corridor, Si Suk Quintela's To Dai looked curiously from the kitchen door - "... It's just that I didn't do it on purpose..." - I replied. Si Gung looked seriously ahead and seemed to choose his words carefully before grabbing my attention again due to my response. You know, I think at that point, who we really are was very clear: deep down, I apologized because it was the first "Maai Sang Jong" Si Suk Quintela and I were doing, and I had just taken two punches from him. In my head, poking him in the eye with my finger might sound like retaliation, but that wasn't the case. At that moment, a certain desire to be a nice guy surfaced, and perhaps with the apologies, I was just trying to say - "Hey! I'm a nice guy, you know!"- Si Gung, of course, noticed.

[Breakfast at Si Gung´s house]

Voltamos a fazer.

I have seen Si Gung portrayed as someone, let's say, very serious. However, this is not the case. If you ask my disciple Daniel, he always talks about Si Gung laughing at some story he remembered, even though it was related to a correction. The thing is, we had spent the afternoon watching videos about martial arts, and you truly immerse yourself in a very profound process. - "'When we practice, we should not behave as we normally do,' wasn't that what he said in the video?" - Si Gung asked, laughing, seeming to have enjoyed this phrase said by a Kendo Sensei in a video suggested by Si Suk Felipe. The phrase wasn't exactly that, but somehow, it was a version he reminded us of during 'Maai Saang Jong'. - "Come on, let's do a little 'Maai Sang Jong'" - he said, abruptly interrupting the video session. We positioned ourselves facing each other; we should attack before the other set up the guard, 'how?', well, anything goes. After a few rounds, someone asked - "Si Fu, when does it end?" - I answered myself, based on what my Si Fu Julio Camacho had said countless times in my presence. It's a simple phrase - "In some moment it ends by itself." - I said. Si Gung seemed to accept the answer, and everyone else did too. We went back to doing it. Si Suk Quintela was very generous during the practice; you could see in him a genuine desire to help. When I sat out, I could admire him even more because, in a moment like that, what came to the surface was exactly what he always does: making himself available to be useful. Si Suk Felipe, on the other hand, reflected on what was not working. Without his glasses, his vision was affected, but he managed, even in such a tense situation, to stay open to the experience. As he has done in all other moments. So, you could see there were two people aligned, regardless of the context. But what about me?

[Jantar depois do Maai Sang Jong]
[Dinner after Maai Sang Jong]

I would stop in front of one of the two after a few rounds, and my left leg, I couldn't stop moving it. It was like a sprinter before the start. The thrill that 'Maai Sang Jong' had already caused in me was such that it was as if I were possessed by spirits. At various moments, Si Suk Quintela would raise his hand and wave, asking for calm. - 'I already liked you guys, now that we've done Maai Sang Jong, I like you even more!' - he said in the car later, as we were heading to the restaurant, and continued - '...I just didn't understand why we were there having fun, and Pereira was so tense...' - he inquired. There was a certain silence, and I replied: 'I don't know how many opportunities like this I'll have; I didn't want to make a mistake' - I told him.

I felt a bit sad because what surfaced during 'Maai Sang Jong' was just the usual serious guy who is a bit 'kamikaze.' On the other hand, I was very grateful. There was a lot of honesty there, facing those guys. There, I wasn't 'Si Hing Pereira,' 'Master Pereira,' 'Si Fu,' etc... I was just a hardworking guy. And if I opened up my guard, I knew I would get hit. And just for that, I could recognize myself once again during the practice. Later, when we arrived at Si Suk Quintela's house, we had a very enjoyable night while having whisky. Normally, I wouldn't accept, but I remembered 'Maai Sang Jong,' and that I could try to be a more relaxed guy. So, on that night, for some mysterious reason, the taste of whisky seemed sweeter.

DOING “CHI SAU” WITH SI GUNG - One in a lifetime experience

( Si Gung and I walking after the breakfast )

This has been a highly challenging year for me within the martial arts circles because, for the first time, I wasn't institutionally connected to my Master Julio Camacho. You know, when we're part of the same institution, we share everyday things, projects, achievements, and setbacks. I chose to remain in Moy Yat Ving Tsun, and with that came a series of challenges, in addition to the fact that I'm forging my own path. Among them, how would I fit into this group of eagles I found around Si Gung? From high-level discussions to the harmony that exists among these people, I reflected on this challenge.
"Well, I can't go back now, but I also don't know what lies ahead..." At these times, Si Gung's support was crucial for me to integrate with these professionals who seek a high level. Sometimes, Si Gung would just call to inquire about how a particular seminar had gone - "And how was it for you, did you manage to keep up?" - If not, he would ask about my disciples. At other times, depending on a question I had, he would return the call or ask if I could join a video conference.
With this, we also began to interact technically. Si Gung offered to support a better understanding on my part of what I had been exposed to since a young age, to provide better content to my disciples. "...This is the least you should offer them," - he would have said at the end of a class in a hotel.
This year marked a very strong transition in my Kung Fu journey, but little did I know the incredible moment that awaited me on this latest trip.
Sala de prática do Instituto Moy Yat
( Training room of the Moy Yat Institute )

E você podia me ver ali sendo golpeado seguidas vezes bem do lado do peito onde estava minha tatuagem cicatrizando. Nunca saberei.

There was a scheduled class for the "Mui Fa Jong" Domain with Si Gung. In reality, I only had a question about the program's structure, but he had said - "...If you don't practice, you won't be able to understand..."- So, there I was with one of the greatest authorities in Ving Tsun in the world for a lesson. I, as always, thought - "Why doesn't he ask Si Suk Giarola to practice with me, and Si Gung guides us?" - Si Suk Giarola was in another room with my disciples, but, for some mysterious reason, Si Gung preferred to personally lead that practice. I was already wanting to laugh before the practice even started. I was happy. If we cease to see moments like these as something unique or incredible, nothing makes sense, does it?
Si Gung turned on a TV  from the RIS System with the MYVT Program on the screen and said - "Shall we?" - My heart was pounding; I couldn't make a mistake! If only I didn't hinder, we could study the entire Mui Fa Jong Domain that morning. Then Si Gung asked us to start with "Lei Dei Chi Sau." I had received important tips from Si Suk Giarola the day before, but they were of no use... What I heard most from Si Gung was - "Relax... Relax" - And there I was falling to the ground once again. We then moved on to the next exercise and then to the next, which was "Mo Lau Sau." Si Gung had already said "relax" too many times. So, he began to release the strike more intense. And you could see me there being struck several times right on the side of the chest where my tattoo was healing. At one point, I held Si Gung's hand in the air, and before I could mention the tattoo, he switched hands and struck again at the same spot - "Ah, then to hell with the tattoo!" - I thought. However, more important than that, I sensed that if I didn't relax there, Si Gung might stop the practice due to my inadequate conditions. So, I gave my best, or perhaps he let me believe that I was giving my best. I will never know.

Conversando com Si Gung em seu carro
( Talking with Si Gung in his car )

There's a phrase I really like that says, "Winter never fails to become spring." So, I was very happy and honored to be there practicing. I didn't want to fail because I had within me the desire to provide better conditions for my disciples. Not because of any secret technique, after all, they don't exist, but to take that moment as a first step towards a greater understanding. However, I didn't have time to think about anything; Si Gung's mobilization ability is very impressive and immersive. Words are unnecessary, and with him that morning, I could understand a bit better the idea of "silent transmission." Si Gung didn't want to teach me anything; at some point, it seemed more like he wanted to break down some blockage I had created that hindered me from practicing at a higher level. Whether it was that or not, one can't know. But I felt it when I was finally back. It was quite emotional; it felt like someone had resurrected within me. I had left myself behind as a practitioner at some point, and surrounded by bills, personal responsibilities, and being a Si Fu, that guy ended up being left somewhere. I felt, for a moment, like my twenty-year-old self again. I didn't feel more powerful; I felt happier. There was no problem in the world, just Chi Sau. So, I smiled once again.
( With Si Gung in the meeting room of the Institute )

Si Gung is 60 years old, but on that morning, I can say it was the closest I came to experiencing a training session from an 80s or 90s Kickboxer movie. Si Gung can move very, very quickly. Not because of speed, but because he is always in the right place and with his entire body ready for action. He often talks about martial conduct, but there I could see him putting it into practice. I was deeply moved to witness the result of a lifetime dedicated to martial arts. And for a moment, I regretted that my Si Hing Leonardo wasn't there to see it too. - "Did you see that? Before you raised your guard position, I hit you twice" - Actually, Si Gung was mistaken; he had hit me three times, the last one on the rib during the "Maai Sang Jong."

Auxiliando Si Gung durante a aula do Si Suk Vede
( Assisting Si Gung during Si Suk Vede's class )

Sabe, eu amo a minha vida. Momentos assim me fazem compreender a imbatível sorte que eu tenho.

In the end, my tattoo felt like it was on fire from the intensity of the sensation, but so did my heart. You know, I love my life. Moments like these make me understand the unbeatable luck that I have. You might see me going through whatever, but the practice of Ving Tsun helps me see the colors of things always, once again, and remember that "Winter never fails to become spring." All that I live is thanks to what my Si Fu Julio Camacho passed on to me and the opportunities he gave me. This includes direct access to his own Si Fu Leo Imamura, my Si Gung.
I left that practice very happy and with a clear conscience. I could reconnect with myself without anything being said, only with the martial experience. I know you don't understand, but I'm telling you, it's true. And I want to be able to inspire someone like that one day. I want to reach the age of 60 with this physical readiness and enjoy every detail of something I've been dedicated to, at different levels, since the age of 15. It's never too late, even for me.
One day, one life.

TWO DAYS W/ MY SI GUNG JULIO CAMACHO by Daniel Eustáquio 13G VT

[Daniel in the foregroung took a pic of the moment]

Article by the Master Thiago Pereira´s disciple, Daniel Eustáquio.

Lately, I have had plenty of opportunities to witness the relationship between my Si Fu and his own Si Gung, Grandmaster Leo Imamura. It serves as inspiration in various ways, always prompting me to reflect on the potential that relationships with other generations beyond one's own (in my case, the 13th) can offer in terms of learning for both parties. I observed this dynamic between my Si Fu and his Si Gung during the first Official Visit of Si Taai Gung Leo to the MYVT Méier school. It was then that I discovered that the following week, my Si Gung, Master Julio Camacho, would be visiting the Kung Fu Family in Rio!
I was immediately excited and happy to once again spend time with my Si Gung and make the most of the brief time I had with him, intending to further understand the person who passed down the system to my Si Fu. His visit to Brazil was primarily to conduct seminars for advanced levels of the Ving Tsun system, but some activities were opened for everyone to participate and reunite with the Clan leader.
So, on Thursday, November 23rd, I set out alone for the legendary BlueSky buildings, a place where I have heard numerous stories from my Si Fu about the day-to-day life of the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family and which has now been reestablished as the headquarters of this Kung Fu Family. This time, I was without my Si Fu, which initially presented some challenges as he is the bridge connecting the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family to me.
Upon arriving at the new headquarters of , I was greeted by my Si Suk Thiago Silva, who opened a big smile when we saw each other, immediately helping me dispel some nervousness. I then had the opportunity to greet Si Gung, whom I hadn't seen in months. I could instantly sense a lot of joy in welcoming everyone there. Despite being tired after a long journey, Si Gung seemed rejuvenated and whole with every moment and action he took.
During the visit's opening, a video exclusively recorded by Si Gung for my Si Fu was played, and watching it together with my 'Kung Fu uncles' was quite special. Witnessing Si Gung's comments on the behind-the-scenes of the recording and the message behind the video was enlightening.
During the comments after the video presentation, it was a moment of extreme importance for harmony. Through Si Gung's words, I could understand his current moment and how he was coordinating practices in that scenario, where there were practitioners with no access to the Ving Tsun system, as well as senior members like my Si Baak Leonardo and my Si Suk Carlos Antunes.
Due to an unforeseen event, Si Gung had to be absent for a significant part of that afternoon, but it did not prevent us from making the most of that rare moment when various Clan members were present and eager to practice! The interaction with my Si Suk (and Si Baak) was rich, both with those I already had some familiarity with and those I met that day. It was a day where I could revisit various practices and milestones of the system with a highly beneficial diversity of "arms," getting to know and strengthen the relationship with everyone through the martial experience. I hope there will be more moments like this among the Clan.
To conclude the day, Si Gung returned to the Mo Gun to hear about everyone's experience that afternoon. As each person shared their thoughts on the day, Si Gung reciprocated by presenting us with various stories about his travels alongside his Si Fu. When it was my turn to speak, I was pleasantly surprised when Si Gung referred to me as his "grandson," which immediately touched me in a very positive way. It demonstrated through his words the lightness that a To Suen's relationship with his Si Gung should have and how the atmosphere was quite light and happy. For me, it was the highlight of that Thursday!

On Saturday, the 25th of November, I accompanied my Si Fu for another day of the visit. On this day, there was a lecture followed by a breakfast and the ceremonial events of the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family. I met my Si Fu on Saturday morning, and together we went to the BlueSky buildings, engaging in pre-event discussions during the commute. Upon arrival, I could see the joy in my Si Fu's face at being back in that space with many stories related to the Kung Fu family. This time, accompanied by my Si Fu, I assisted in the preparations for breakfast and got to know the individuals who would conduct the ceremonies that day.
One of the things I've learned from my Si Fu while attending various seminars with him is the skill of keeping the "ball bouncing," meaning to favor the favorable, not letting the thread unravel. So, during the lecture, Si Gung opened the floor for questions and contributions. Right away, I volunteered to inquire about communal living, focusing on the learning process through this experience and how Si Gung currently perceives it. At the end of it, the same theme was still being discussed, and Si Gung took advantage of one of my questions to guide the entire pre-ceremonial moment, which was extremely important for those primarily entering the MJLO family.
Soon after, the ceremonial events began, featuring admissions to the family, level advancements, and the discipleship ceremony. My Si Baak Gung, Ricardo Queiroz, Kung Fu brother of Si Gung, was an honorable witness. I seized the opportunity, along with everyone present, to hear his words at this unique moment for each person undergoing their ceremonies. Si Baak Gung opened the ceremonial events and started with the admission ceremony, during which four practitioners would join the MJLO family.
I was particularly struck by the diversity of people in that moment and how each person's unique qualities reflected in the way they approached the process. It always reinforces for me the potential that ceremonial events carry through a very unique recognition of each individual with their own moment. Following this, there was the level advancement to the Biu Ji domain, which I also witnessed, observing how Si Gung conducted the moment, always attentive to the person entering (in this case, my Si Suk Lucas), to make it as personalized as possible for him. The last ceremonial act of that morning was the discipleship ceremony for Si Suk Daniel. I also had the opportunity to observe Si Gung's guidance for that moment, considered the most important in the practitioner's journey. It was a significant learning experience to witness all of this alongside my Si Fu, marking the first time I saw my Si Gung conduct this type of ceremony.
Therefore, these two days of substantial learning concluded in a special way. I bid farewell to my Si Suk present and, finally, said goodbye to Si Gung with a smile on my face, eagerly anticipating the next opportunity for us to continue our journey together.
