No music when you practice (Sem música quando você praticar!)

This is a picture of me, observed by my Si Hing Leonardo Reis, and in the background were Si Gung and Si Taai. In the photo, I'm paying reverence to the ancestors at the grand opening of the old Mo Gun of our family in the neighborhood of Recreio. But it is not about the opening that I wish to speak, but, about the return of the house to the owner when we were moving ...
When I was painting the front gates of the house just before we return the same. I remember I was with my mp3 playing while painting. It was very hot as the summer approached. Suddenly I realized Si Fu standing next to me. He asked me why I was listening to music. I said it was to "distract me while painting."(in portuguese "to distract" means like "to have fun" in the same time means "do not pay attention"). He said something like: "The idea is you just do not get distracted If you propose to do something, be fully present.."

(Me and my Kung Fu Brother, Vladimir, hanging the glass board at Meier School in 2011)

In Family Kung Fu nobody is forced to clean up the Mo Gun, or to paint, etc ... The family member is often asked to, because he has to beginning to realize leave the place better than it was when he arrived or simply enter a process in which all are participating, such as the preparation of a Mo Gun.
Generally, people come to practice because they saw the film "Ip Man" (2008), and not to take tea and clean up a Mo Gun. But not because they want to, but because they hardly know this possibility.
Expressing careful attention not only to decide which approach to use when  someone attacks you , but also in caring for people in day-to-day and the ambiences we attend, is something that we seek to develop ... And when we do it, it is very important that we are fully present, without distractions, without floating in our thoughts. And if you wonder why. You can ask first about how you maintain your present body awareness while expressing your Siu Nim Tau (or other forms), or may think that your consciousness float for a second in a critical situation, you die.

(With Si Fu in the former School. At that time we always talk about "music" ).

- Me perguntou ele.

Also in this period, I took Si Fu to the airport once and for some reason and context that do not remember he said something like, "Do you like  ROCKY movies right?" - He asked me. In saying so, he continued: "... In real life Thiago, when you're running up those stairways same in the film, will not play any music to motivate you ..." - Si Fu paused as I reached the parking ticket and went on: "... And he does not have a girlfriend there who motivates him in the movie?" - He inquired. - "... You will not have tune playing to help you up, and often the person or people you counted most would support you, will be even rooting against and then what you will do? Stop climbing the stairs? What do you do.?  ".

That was a speech that touched me a lot because in the second half of the '90s, many people, including myself, had a  Aiwa Walkman(pictured above). We put our K-7 tapes with our favorite music selection, and long before the hype of the character "Starlord" from "Guardians of the Galaxy", I walked ALWAYS with two headphones and my Walkman attached to the belt.

But as Si Fu said well, reality has no soundtrack. If something affects you while you're on the street with headphones. If there is still time, you certainly take the headphones off to understand what it is. But most of the time it's too late.
Later, when I was living alone, Si Fu told me he did not care for turning on the TV when he came home. I've always did it, it was hard to keep the house in silence. Si Fu then asked me how much I really liked living alone, if I needed at all times of the TV voices in the background ...

Finally, when I decided to do bodybuilding in 2005. I remember put all tracks from ROCKY OST and Stan Bush's songs in my mp3 player. One day, I forgot to bring it. As already I did not like this kind of activity, that an hour spent working out without music was a real martyrdom. I seemed to be getting tired more, the series seemed much heavier, and when I mentioned this to Si Fu, he just said ". Of course, because you were actually paying attention to what you was doing"

So whatever you do, be fully present. Look commit only what you can monitor at the time. This also applies to the speed you will use to run this thing. The speed we want to do something, is not always compatible with the speed that we can accomplish. But the Ving Tsun practitioner has the "Saam" (心) to be able to do this more effectively. "Saam" (心) means "Heart" or "Mind". But is not the "red heart from Valentine's Day." It is a special form of consciousness that runs through our body to the point where it is needed. Be the point of contact with the companion of practice to feel him more clearly, or the point of pressure you put on the brush when painting the wall ...

(Photo of Chan Yu Ming and his wife which is on a wall in San Dak [Shun De].
This photo is often confused on the internet)

The first time I came across stories about the son of our ancestor Chan Wah Shun, Chan Yu Ming, I was fascinated by everything about it! I never knew everything, just pieces that came to me.
I found for example, that he earned the nickname  of 七 省 棍 王 (Chat Saang Gwan Wong) or "King of the Gwaan of the Seven Provinces ". Due to a tournament that he won using the Luk Dim Bun Gwaan without losing to anyone. But nothing to compare to the nickname he also had : "Mythical Leopard".
I never wanted to know why he had that nickname, I just thought it was too cool! And could not wait to practice in the Domain Luk Dim Bun Gwaan only to understand this weapon that gave the nickname to him.

NEW LEGENDS OF KUNG FU MASTERS:
NEW LEGENDS OF KUNG FU MASTERS:

A good excuse for a  Ving Tsun practitioner

(Praticando Luk Dim Bun Gwaan no caminho para a Prainha, Zona Oeste do Rio)
(Rio de Janeiro, West Zone: Practicing on a Saturday morning)

É a desculpa perfeita!

But as readers and those who know me personally know, my left knee is practically nonexistent, and practice Luk Dim Bun Gwaan is something that time just makes it more difficult at first, because the more time passes, the worse my knee problem is .
Si Fu say that nothing better than being sick. It's the perfect excuse! Do you have an appointment, you are late, forget it or sleep too much and just in time sends a message saying, "I can not go, I'm sick." How can anyone challenge someone who says he is sick?

Who sees the photos of the Kung Fu family in this Blog, you notice that some faces are always there. Others are new, and others are gone for sometime and return to reappear. Others, no longer appear. But some see these pictures and can find simple being together. It scares me more, when members of the Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou itself fantasize that.
It turns out that by seeing other people near or distant  going forward , keppin'movin'on day after day without showing suffering, pain, despair, or simply doubt. It makes us believe that this person does not have issues that sometimes do get a good excuse not to be present, not to position, etc ...
(Si Fu me observa praticar com o bastão)
(Si Fu watches me playing with the Gwaan)

See my story with my knee for example: How many times I could not really practice Luk Dim Bun Gwaan because my knee ached and how often I unwittingly used it not to go through the discomfort of practice to understand the stance?
The average practitioner of Ving Tsun has some opponents to win depending on the stage of life or the moment they are living: parents, girlfriend (boyfriend), wife (husband), preparation for college entrance exams, college, lack of time, lack of money, etc ... what many who go trough these challenges  forget, is that even those who climbed their way through adversity also passed and still pass through these and other problems that no one imagine. But the main one is: We are always looking for excuses to give up.

At various times when I was in the Domain Mui Fa Jong, Si Fu spoke I was kind of "Kamikaze". When I was not understanding how to do something using Kung Fu, I just threw me and If I was hit that was all right, but I would threw myself on someone anyway. This in Kung fu world is stupid. In the photo above, Si Gung moments before asked me how was my knee to make the "Jing Choei", I said " I dont mind ! Iwanted to do it Si Gung!" The result was that I was unable to normally walk the rest of the weekend.
Know ourselves to respecting us is also important.

With Si Fu (photo), I learned not to despair when things go wrong. This does not mean that I do not despair at times, but he told me that it is our ability to manage situations that change, but we'll keep going through them.
I designed a very big fantasy with stories of Chan Yu Ming and his nicknames derived from the practice of Luk Dim Bun Gwaan. And my bad knee, fit like a glove to serve me as an excuse not to practice even when I could, or to confuse me when I should not force me to practice. But instead had tried to know me better, rather than excuses, I would have more Kung Fu to deal with myself.

And therein lies the importance of lifelong relationship within the Kung Fu formally initiated after the Baai Si Ceremony: The idea that we have a lifetime to work our Kung Fu and our limitations ... without "getting sick" ... With no excuses. ..
