CHAM KIU AND A KUNG FU ADVENTURE (CHAM KIU E UMA AVENTURA KUNG FU!)

On a Saturday afternoon, my Kung Fu brother Rodrigo Moreira (photo), a disciple of Moy Jo lei Ou Clan  like me. Accompanied me to a Japanese film festival that is happening on the outskirts of Meier neighborhood during the month of May.

The film we watched was one of the masterpieces of Akira Kurosawa:  "Yojimbo", starring Toshiro Mifune! The movie was wonderful and we left very excited on that one cloudy evening  towards the car. I enjoyed a lot with Rodrigo between conversations, film and comments on the film on the way home. I was in a happy way, it was time we did not do something like since College ...

SEMINÁRIO DE CHAM KIU COM
GRÃO-MESTRE LEO IMAMURA E UM AVENTURA KUNG FU
CHAM KIU SEMINAR W/ GRAND-MASTER LEO IMAMURA
AND A KUNG FU ADVENTURE

Conseguimos! Mas o carro estava quebrado! Preferi deixar pra pensar nisso mais tarde!

Only a week later, when I met Rodrigo Moreira again at the door of my house, I did not imagine the day that would live with him when we drove to the MYVT Downtown School which is headed by Master Ricardo Queiroz and his wife Flavia (photo above).
As a good history of Kung Fu Life, the week before the film was just a rest for what was to come!
In the company of a Kung Fu brother, Rio´s Mayor decided immediately that day, all the streets of Rio should have changed its traffic, in a level that even the city agents did not know to give information. We who would arrive too early, were already late, trying to find a street that would allow that to got to the "Garage Building". Only place to park that would be almost certain.
It turns out that one of the deviations that we not find a way, we fall in traffic in which I realized that the car temperature was almost exploding. I took a road to the right and threw the car in the first sidewalk I thought. The engine fumed and only remains to wait to cool and a last push, start on the line leading to the building. We did it! But the car was broken! I preferred to leave to think about it later!

Eu e Rodrigo representávamos o Clã MJLO e André Villareal e Inez Viegas(foto) a Família Moy Lin Mah. Francisco representou a Família Moy Lin Dei. Todos os demais eram membros do Núcleo Centro. Ao longo do dia, meu Si Fu, Si Suk Ursula e Diego compareceram.

After all this confusion, we were finally in the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Downtown School. I and Rodrigo we represented the Clan MJLO and Andre Villareal and Inez Viegas (photo) represented Family Moy Lin Mah and Francisco represented Moy Lin Dei Family. All the others were members of the MYVT Downtown School. And beyond all these people, there were Si Suk Queiroz, Si Baak Paulo Freitas and Si Gung (photo). Throughout the day, my Si Fu, Si Suk Ursula and Diego attended.
Estávamos reunidos para trabalhar um dos instrumentos do Programa Moy Yat Ving Tsun de Inteligência Marcial , referente ao Nível Avançado : "Seminário de Titulação Tutorial do Nível Intermediário".

We were gathered to work one of the insturments of the  Moy Yat Ving Tsun Martial Intelligence Program, referring to the Advanced Level . We were there to qualify ourselves to pass down the content of the Cham Kiu.

With  advanced  language and approaches, Si Gung crack-down the sequence of Cham kiu trough a very special way. Furthermore, we saw each of the components associated with it, in a way also very intelligent.
Particularly, I was sick at the time. I have had a fever during the many hours studying the Cham Kiu we spent. My car was broken meters away and I hardly knew how to go back home ... But none of that mattered! I had decided to be there and not only that: Getting the maximum possible! So when he felt that alone could not keep so much information, Rodrigo and I alternated in to record with cell phones.

Enquanto estava no Núcleo Centro, o Núcleo Méier funcionava normalmente sob os cuidados de meus To Dai coordenados pelo meu irmão Kung Fu André Almeida "Moy Mei Da"(foto).

While that the MYVT Meier School was running wild normally under the care of my To Dai (Students) coordinated by my Kung Fu brother André Almeida "Moy Mei Da" (photo).

Finally the night had arrived after a day so intense and Si Suk Ricardo Queiroz with Si Gung promoted a closure that had the final words on that activity of the present Masters, among which I 1m included .
We hugged and said goodbye, everyone smiled and  was happy, but my "bar of energy" was almost all "red" ... Also, my car was still in the "Garage Building" ....
Rodrigo kindly offered to accompany me to my home even having his birthday party about to begin in Meier neighborhood.
The paths we had, concerned the stall in very hostile places, so choose to follow by a highway which has its first half as one of the most dangerous in our city ... The Grajaú-Jacarepagua Hill Highway...
(Imagem : O Globo: Serra Grajaú-Jacarepaguá)
(Image : O Globo newspaper of Grajau Hill Highway)

Conseguimos!!! Viramos a curva após a sinistra comunidade e o carro enguiçou...

The plan was simple: To have us three bottles of water that serve as refills when the car starts to running out. The car would need to be at high speed to the cold wind  cool it. In addition, the gas station at the foot of this road that cuts through the mountains (photo) would serve as a "check-point" to leave the car boil and cool, we fill our refills and follow. It turns out that at the foot of Grajaú-Jacarepagua Road we saw that the gas station was closed. All I could think was step on that with the last breath of the vehicle, could spend at least the first half of the road ... We did it !!! We turned the corner after the sinister favela and the car broke down ... Motorcycles passed us all the time with sinister elements on it. The rescue would take 40 minutes to get there ... In the rush, we put the one of the two bottles we had with water in the tank that evaporated in seconds. Thus, I left to Rodrigo keep watch while I tried something ...
(Photo from the favela on the Grajau Hill Highway)

Pula no carro!" - Disparei no último final de subida ... O carro começava a esquentar...

I waited for the engine to cool minimally and played the last bottle with water ... It did not go down! It was all I needed! Before the water came down through the hole in the hose (which is why the car ran out of water) caused in the morning, like a hurricane got in the car in the middle of that darkness and called Rodrigo: " Rodrigo jump in the car!!!" - I fired the last final climb ... The car was beginning to heat up ... But now we were downhill, and leaving the car only with the key turned in order to use the steering wheel. We managed to get in Jacarepagua ... Rodrigo arrived in time for his party in Meier and everything turned out well ...

Si Gung (photo) has been talking a lot about the concept of "Humanity". Often when we encounter the possibility of a crisis situation, we prefer to dismiss it, sometimes to escape. Rodrigo could catch a ride and arrive at his home in twenty minutes but chose to accompany me knowing that I could go through a situation like this or worse ... "Yojimbo" means "Bodyguard". But better than that, it is to have a Kung Fu Brother.
For my part, no use me despair. I believe my part lacked mastery in this story, but I credit to my Kung Fu and Rodrigo's, the car coming home well.
And even with so many learnings about Cham Kiu in high level that day. I and Rodrigo had an extra adventure!
And finally coming into my home and tucking me under the covers after finding the thermometer. I found that now  I could "get sick" ...Because that day, had to be lived ...

VING TSUN FORMS SPECIAL PART 1 (AS FORMAS DO VING TSUN : ESPECIAL PARTE 1)

The first time I saw the Siu Nim Tau, I confess that I was disappointed a little. That sequence of movements that in no way resembled what I saw in the movies by Shaw Brothers and Golden Harvest, left me confused. It was so simple and compact that could hardly believe that for many months I would practice only that.
Many times, Si Fu (photo above) commented on Osama bin Laden, that if Bin Laden decided to hide following the 'Chinese classical logic',he would not be characterized inside caves, but, walking in central park with an nike outfit or eating hot dogs in a Yankees game. This is because the idea of "hiding" of classical culture in has nothing to do with put in the last, to hide, etc..... But yes, let it show, in the first,on the view ... because even if a practitioner  of Ving Tsun who practices the forms of the system  diligently for years, it may be the case that he still has not transcended the visible part of it. Are attached to form, and not to what is behind ....
" (Jullien,1997)

My favorite author, the sinologist François Jullien (photo) says the following about this subject: "... To what extent never completely left this scheme, and can we get out of it, can we even ask it ?Because it is so well assimilated that we can see it no more, we do not see us more, we draw an ideal form (eidos),and  we put it as goal (telos) ... "(Jullien, 1997)
(Jullien ,1997)

Si Gung (photo), calls on all members of the Great Clan Moy Yat Sang often to do not use the word "Training" . He said the importance of having the opportunity to become aware of something, from the practice of Ving Tsun. So, if we train repeatedly without being aware of this process, we can see anything more. The words of Jullien, transcribed above, will make perfect sense.
We can see this when some professionals and more innocent practitioners, desperately trying to give an explanation about every movement from the forms. To the point of creating sequences of "attack and defense" to practice with a partner. On this, Jullien says the following: "... We draw so many schemes designed on the world, and marked by idealism, that we should then, as people say, to put the facts  in. But what means 'to put in' when it is in  real life that you want to do it? First, the understanding would conceive 'in order to get better', then the will is invested to impose this model into the reality ... " (JUllien ,1997)

Si Fu (photo) once spoke of "exotic" as something over which we have an outside look. For certain thing is not common to us, it becomes "exotic". It turns out that according to Si Fu, no position from  the first form (or sequence, as he prefers) Siu Nim Tau, belongs to our day-to-day. The strangeness  generated, causes our body compensates for these new positions, holding our weight in the wrong places. And then, it is not uncommon to find someone doing "Yi Ji Kim Yeung Ma" stance anyway due to discomfort or feel pain later practice.
But more serious than it is when the responsible for the practice, attempts to justify the movements trough all the possible unreasonable ways. Generally, this justification falls to "imaginary fight" ....

Below I perform Siu Nim Tau in the day I got the room key which would be the Meier School. Look closely at my Siu Nim Tau from that April 6, 2011, and try to visualize an imaginary fight. If you can do it, send me an email please.

E o modelo continua no horizonte do olhar. Retirado para o céu, o ideal é inacessível..." (Jullien,1997)

You probably can not see an imaginary fight. Jullien comments on: "... There is a difference between the model designed to act and that, with the above eyes, we can achieve. In short, the practice always betray a little the theory and the model continues in the horizon of our desires.. . Taken to heaven, the ideal is inaccessible ... "(Jullien, 1997)
Taking these words, after watching the video above, we found that trying to "put in" our theories in reality it is a waste for the wise martial artist.

Dentro dessa lista, encontramos nomes: Taan Sau, Bong Sau, Fuk Sau, etc...

The forms present in the Ving Tsun System, are presented as lists. A list of movements we call "Kuen Po". This list, says nothing specific. It just points out the apparent shape of the thing. Within this list, we find names as: Taan Sau, Bong Sau, Fuk Sau, etc ... names that translated to, we find nothing special, because its importance lies in the fact of being a component of this list and nothing beyond.

About it, watch in the video below, the intelligent answer given by Master Felipe Soares(from Brazil) , my Si Suk, when asked about a movement present in Cham Kiu:

Citing Jullien one last time, he reflects a little of what was said in the video above by Master Felipe Soares: "In proposing to clarify the march of things, to clarify its internal coherence and to conform to it's own conduct, the Chinese sage not conceived contemplative activity that was a pure knowledge (theorein), and had an end in itself, or even be the supreme end and could be disinterested. the "world" is not for him an object of speculation, there is not the knowledge" by one side and in the other 'action' ... "
So, even if he wanted, Master Felipe could not directly answer the question. Therefore, according to Si Gung: "Kung Fu can be learned but not taught."

Estava tudo lá: Dois pés no chão, encaixe , posicionamento, e estrutura...

Sometimes, you just find yourself thinking of someone. Today I was thinking about a very special person. You know, I believe that some people are really different from the others: Si Fu, Si Suk Ursula, Si Gung ... And the man in the picture above with me: Si Suk Andre Cardoso (photo).
Always when I see a Pegeout 206 (mostly blue)  I do not remember him talking about how he was sure he would buy a car like that.
Sometimes we identify with someone and do not know or understand why. Si Suk Andre was this guy to me. He always had fun with everyone when someone did something stupid in Mo Gun, he did not reprimanded, he just said, "Hey creature! What are you doing!?" - We laughed and respected at the same time.
When I was walking the from the English course in Taquara toward the Mo Gun, I could see his silhouette through the window practicing Siu Nim Tau in the late afternoon. I was happy to know he would be there.

Si Suk Andre was a very friendly and committed person. He passed me great confidence in what he was saying during classes. There was no point to get the better practicing with him! You simply could not! He was almost an perfect emulator of the concepts of Ving Tsun when practiced! It was all there: Two feet on the ground, fitting, positioning and structure ... You could only admire as he carried you all over the place. In his own words. "I always thought myself as an average person with regard to learning the techniques of Ving Tsun, never considered myself a guy with great abilities I will confess to you that despite dedicate myself to training, I did not  like much to train, I liked more the contact with the Kung Fu Family. "

When I asked him (second from right to left) in the photo with me, Gil and Si Fu,if  the Ving Tsun had brought good things to him, he said: "Yes! Among other things I could discover the great power of accomplishment that we have. within us. the great ability that each of us have to go in search of what we believe. But paradoxically also discovered the great capacity we have of sabotage ouselves in the time in achieving these same goals. so I am a person more attentive to this effect. "
In 2005, Si Suk André "completed the System." When we heard that, we thought he would go flying around the Mo Gun. He did not lack anything for it! But on the contrary, he continued with the same smile, the same kind as always and helping in all that was necessary. In his words, a practitioner should have the following in mind: "... I've always been a very cheerful person, relaxed and always tried to be nice to people . One should value the most of every minute he spends next to his Si Fu. . Take enough this time and practice enough Siu Nim Tau. And always be very gentle with everyone who crosses your path ... "
(Si Suk André Cardoso praticando Siu Nim Tau na praia)
(Si Suk Andre doing the Siu Nim Tau at the beach)

The memories of Si Suk Andre always tells me that you can be a leader with a smile on your face. Sometimes I find myself serious as I was, and perhaps today I just wanted to smile a little remembering him. But when writing these lines, who would say, here I am crying. Well, I have no desire to go back in time to fix anything as I used to fantasize, but now thinking, maybe I could go back to November 2005 and say to him: "Si Suk! Do not go away ! We will have so much fun there on! Vlad will not be so shy anymore and will have a super cute little son. Our clan will have a guy so committed and dear as you called Carlos Antunes! The Si Suk Ursula will turn into a Master! But it was already clear for everyone! It turns out that Diego and Felipe also will be! and I and Leo too! and Si Fu will let me run a Moy Yat Ving Tsun School in Meier neighborhood! " - I could be talking about a lot of things for him .... But I bet he would smile behind those  characteristic sunglasses of him and would give me a hug and say, "I have to go there Big Thiago!"

MOY JO LEI OU FAMILY VISITS MYVT FREGUESIA SCHOOL (Familia Moy Jo Lei Ou visita o Nucleo Freguesia)

Por(BY) Pedro Ivo "Moy Yi Woh"

I had the opportunity to coordinate a visit to the MYVT Freguesia School, whose director is the Master Felipe Soares(photo). Accompanied by my Si Hing Marcelo Ormond and  Heric White and Iuri Alvarenga, this visit was meant to invite the Master Felipe Soares and his entire School to the day of the ceremony on November 21, one of the most important in Moy Jo Lei Ou Family, of which I, honorably, I am part.
Anyone who knows me in martial circle knows the affection that I have for Master Felipe Soares then I was at the same time, happy and eager in driving the invitation.

To my delight, master Felipe Soares accepted the invitation(photo), confirming his presence at the November 21, and extended the invitation to all members of his school.
At the request of Master Felipe Soares, after the invitation, I coordinated a practice of Ving Tsun Experience. It was an enriching experience for me, as there were members of the Barra School, Freguesia and Meier. Although practice in different places, it was interesting to see the great harmony among all. I got the feeling that our legacy will be preserved for many, many generations (I hope forever).

Closing activities at his school,we went to lunch at a restaurant near the Mo Gun. Master Felipe Soares proved very interested in meeting new entrants members in Moy Jo Lei Ou family. For me, it's always a teachable moment to be with the Master Felipe Soares, especially in "informal" situations. The subtlety with which he demonstrates his high level of Kung Fu is a source of inspiration.
The presence of masters of our clan, as the master Felipe Soares, further magnifies this ceremony as impactful in the history of Family Moy Jo Lei Ou Family. For the first time in our family, we will have  access to all levels and Baai Si and the the leader's birthday, my SiFu, Master Julio Camacho, happening at the same event. In addition to the ceremonies, we will have the announcement of Moy Fat Lei Family openning, led by Master Thiago Pereira, my Si Hing and owner of this blog.

(The importance of the "Dui Ying (對形)" in Ving Tsun ) A importância do "Dui Ying (對形)" no Ving Tsun

(Master Diego Guadelupe talks on "Jong Sau" 樁 手 with Luciano Freitas, while Cris Chaves watches . Luciano and Cris, are disciples of Master Julio Camacho just like me.)

What we call "guard position" in Ving Tsun, is called "Jong Sau" (樁 手). This position keeps both hands in front of one's body, this may cause some discomfort at first. Because the trend is that we are committed only in part with the situation. Ie: With the Side of our body. In order that a side of the body reaches the opponent and the other must travel a greater distance to such.

The "Jong" (樁) of "Jong Sau" (樁 手) is the same ideogram found in "Muk Yan Jong" (木人 樁). Thus, its meaning is "Post" or "pillar". In this case, the "pillar" would be our body. Protected by the "Sau" (手). That although the in the dictionary means "hand" in terms of Kung Fu, we can consider "Sau" (手) as the entire shoulder extension to the fingers.
(Si Fu demonstra o Siu Nim Tau)
(Si Fu does the Siu Nim Tau)

We face opponents in the practice of Ving Tsun with the front of our body, but if only we stay in front of him, and he also is facing us. Will not help, because the distances are equivalent and possibly the reference point (photo) will be shared by two.
Thus, "to face" to the opponent, is called "Dui Ying (對 形)." What happens is that  in "Dui Ying (對 形)" from the Cham Kiu, means to anticipate to position facing the opponent, in a way that he is not fully facing you.
(Master Fabio Gomes shakes hands with a practitioner of Ving Tsun in Faat Saan [Fo Shan] after making the practice of Chi Sau)

Si Fu often say that when we shook someone's hand, originally was a symbol of distrust, considering that our arms "Sau" (手), which are our natural weapons, are positioned in this gesture in front of one's body, as if he was protecting himself, as in "Jong Sau" (樁 手)

But the act of "lower your head", as we see Si Gung doing in the picture, it is a way to deliver the most important part of your body. A symbol of trust on who is in front.

So in scenes like the one above from the movie "Enter the Dragon" (1973), in which Bruce Lee tells his student that he never must take his eyes off the opponent, even when greeting him lowering his head does not make sense . It's like you showed confidence with suspicious.
(Grão-Mestre Moy Yat e Mestre Leo Imamura praticando o Chi Sau)
(Grand-Master Moy Yat and Master Leo Imamura practicing Chi Sau)

"Dui Ying (對 形)" is usually translated as "Being in front." "Dui" (對) can be translated as "Facing" and "Ying" (形) also means "Shape". .
For the practitioner of Ving Tsun(Wing Chun) Kung Fu, it becomes essential to the practice of Siu Nim Tau, the First Domain of the System, find out how to list your priorities in order to know where your "Dui Ying (對 形)" should pointed to. Because while  it is unclear in life when the opponents are not well defined or often do not have shapes. We can not be with all of our tools available, we do not understand how to be facing what is important.

The practice of "Muk Yan Jong" (木人 樁), the "Wooden Dummy", so present in the "Ip Man" movies. By often it was, and unfortunately still is, seen as a tool for make your arms stronger. But look, when "Dui Ying (對 形)" is  deeper studied in its translation, "Dui" (對) can be understood as "Adjust" and "Ying" (形) can mean "to appear". Then we would "Adjust to what appears".

So, when we go around  the 'Muk Yan Jong "(木人 樁), our Dui Ying (對 形)  needs to adjust to its face that it was there waiting for us before we move. Therefore, to understand the 'Muk Yan Jong "(木人 樁) as a tool for Kung Fu is something primordial. But you can also stay beating it up If you wanna..rs I will not hold you ..lol
(Eu e Si Fu)
(Si Fu and I)

But more important than all that has been translated, it is to understand, as you  Si Gung says, that a disciple of a Si Fu, do not have to look for the meanings in the dictionary . He will take from his Si Fu, the meaning wich is welcomed in his family as well as the pronunciation of an ideogram .. This, though it seems a little detail , one will also be identified as a disciple, as a member of his Kung Fu Family. Because he embraces the way of his Si Fu (photo)

(HOW TO WRITE THE KUNG FU TERMS IN A CORRECT WAY)O SISTEMA MOY YAT VING TSUN DE TRANSLITERAÇÃO

My beloved chinese teacher (photo) , Ms.  Lily Ou Yee Fen, is a pioneer in the teaching of this language in Rio de Janeiro. Having been a teacher of a whole generation of enthusiasts and students of the Chinese language for three decades, including my own Si Fu.
She told me on my first day of class with her, that China has 56 ethnic groups recognized by the government. Each of them has its own dialect.
I was very impressed with this information, as immediately came to my mind a scene from the movie Hero(2002).

- Concluiu ele.

In the scene in question the character "Nameless" (Jet Li), tells the emperor that he had requested from the character "Broken Sword" (Tony Leung), who in addition to martial artist was calligrapher (photo), to make for him a variation apart from sixteen possibilities to give the idea of "sword" with an ideogram.
"Nonsense!" - Said the emperor. - "How can people communicate in a country where there are so many different ways to write?" - He concluded.

That's why the Chinese government has established the "dialect Han" (Hànyǔ 汉语) dialect spoken by the ethnic group corresponding to 95% of the Chinese population, "Han" (汉), would become the official language throughout China.
However, the so-called "Cantonese" (Guàntánghuà 觀塘 话) is widely used to this day in southern China and Hong Kong. Despite the "Han dialect," we know as "Mandarin", is the official language.
The Chinese government in the second half of the 20th century, called, according to Si Gung (photo), Chinese news agencies and from around the world, to adopt the "Pin Yin" method (pīnyīn 拼音) as the official way to transliterate the sounds that the ideograms do. That is, one way to achieve Western "read sounds" that the character represents.

Curious to say that Donnie Yen in the "Ip Man" movies(photo), does not use the same speech that the Patriarch Ip Man wore. Since Ip Man was from Faat Saan (Fo Shan) he used the dialect of the region, while in Hong Kong the used dialect is HK Cantonese.
Different from Mandarin and your  "Pin Yin" system the official transliteration, Cantonese has no transliteration system. And because of that, the name of our art has so many variations: Wing Chun, Ving Tsun, Wing Tsun, etc ...

According to Si Gung, Si Taai Gung Moy Yat who is from a village called Duen Fan in GwongTong which has a peculiar dialect of the region. Ie we have Grand Master Moy Yat who had his way of talk coming from his homeland, receiving his teaching in Hong Kong,by Ip Man who spoke a "Faat San-nese" ("Fo Shan -nese") ...

Pronunciando o nome dos Ancestrais do Ving Tsun:
Pronouncing the name of the Ancestors of Ving Tsun:

Por isso, em conversa recente com Si Gung (foto) , os Si Baak: Renato e Natan, os Si Suk: Mirta(Argentina) , Cris e Paul. E o Si Dai Thiago Silva.

So, in a recent conversation with Si Gung (photo), the Si Baak: Renato and Natan, the Si Suk: Mirta (Argentina), Cris and Paul. And my Si Dai Thiago Silva. I could once again admire the wisdom of Si Taai Gung Moy Yat, when Si Gung spoke of different ways to talk about, including the same language as the Portuguese and their nuances. He cited as an example the fact that some members of the Argentina of our clan has difficulty in understanding the Portuguese from Rio, which is pulled over like that from Portugal, given that our state was the Capital of our country for a long time.
To this, he cited the fact that many refer to Leung Bok To the husband of our founder, as "Leung Bok Chao." Si Gung said he is not incorrect as this is a pronunciation possible for this name, however, by the time this ancestor lived, the pronunciation of his name was "Leung Bok To" and not "Chao". And we know it today, thanks to the legacy of Si Taai Gung Moy Yat.

O Sistema Moy Yat Ving Tsun de Transliteração:
The Moy Yat Ving Tsun Transliteration system  :

Sidney Lau (Chinese: 劉錫祥, died 1987) wrote a series of textbooks in the 1970s, for teaching Anglophones to speak Cantonese. The textbooks were initially used for teaching western expatriates working in the Hong Kong Police Force and other government bodies.[1] Later the texts were used as a basis for a radio teaching programme for foreigners. The books introduced Lau's own romanisation system which differs from the Yale system by using superscripted numbers and symbols to indicate the tones of the words. The system is one of three romanisation systems still in use in Hong Kong (font: Wikipedia)

In order to take a drive in its transliteration, and a wish that the terms are minimally respected with an approximate pronunciation. Si Gung adopts the method of Sidney Lau "Romanization", ie to bring our alphabet and therefore for our understanding. The sounds that each ideogram do, so we can read them and play them orally.

Importantly to say that, the (Hànyǔ 汉语), which we call "Mandarin". It has four tones and a neutral (which many consider a fifth tone). By "tone" is meant the pronunciation of a sound in this case, 5 of different shapes. That is, an elongated pronunciation or more short may result in a completely different meaning.
With this in mind, the method of Sidney Lau was adopted because it is not based on different tones of Cantonese dialect as the Yale System. And its transliteration is not based in Portuguese only, but phonemes that make closer to the original.

By 2009, Si Gung suggested I use the current transliteration in our clan, based in Sidney Lau System in "The Peartree's Blog(Blog do Pereira)" in order to subtly educate people to a transliteration contemplating the pronunciation of terms and names of the ancestors.
Therefore, the "Chum Kiu" is always written here as "Cham Kiuh". For the first time on the internet also passed to divide the naming treatment as "SiFu" to "Si Fu". Or "Sihing" to "Si Hing." But mostly "Sijeh" to "Si Je" or "Gerk" to "Geuk".

We still have much to say on this topic. But humbly I place myself available to share more, either by email (moyfatlei.myvT@Gmail.com) or skype (moyfatlei.myvt) on this subject with those who are interested.
