MASTER JULIO CAMACHO´S "BAAI SI": Kung Fu Name, Types of Disciples, Kung Fu Life and more!

This week we celebrated a very important date, the 24th anniversary of the Discipleship Ceremony of my Master Julio Camacho, one of the most important members of Moy Yat Ving Tsun Martial Intelligence in Latin America.

(In the image above, we see my Master Julio Camacho practicing
at the former world headquarters in the USA)

拜 Baai - Siginifica, literalmente, "fazer reverência".
Assim, "Baai Si"(拜師) significa "reverenciar o Mestre".

拜 Baai - It literally means "to bow".
師 Si - It is the same "Si" as "Si Fu" or "Si Hing". Which can mean "expert on something" or "Master".
Thus, "Baai Si" (拜師) means "to revere the Master".
It can be said that this is the most important Ceremony of a practitioner's career, as it establishes the lifelong relationship between Master and Disciple.
Therefore, the practitioner who had formal recognition, via Discipleship Ceremony
"Baai Si" (拜師), with his Master, will be considered a Dai Ji (弟子).

From 1997, my Master Julio Camacho started to accompany his Master Leo Imamura, on his international trips. These were, and continue to be, important moments of what we call Kung-Fu Life, because in addition to all the benefits, Master Julio Camacho had the opportunity to create bonds even with Patriarch Moy Yat, Master of his Master. (PHOTO)

This type of trip, in addition to allowing my Master to have more and more contact and to become more in tune with his Master through a coexistence of almost 24 hours a day for years, made him also able to meet several senior members of Moy Yat Ving Tsun, practitioners older than his own Master, and with them also develop Kung Fu Life. As we see in this photo of him with Grandmaster Pete Pajil and his daughter in the 90s.

O Registro Genealógico (juk po

The Genealogical Record (juk po

The Genealogical Record (juk po 族譜) establishes the history, identity and union of several generations of disciples, from the Founder to her descendants present.
By following the Genealogy Precepts of the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Program of Martial Intelligence, each family leader will be able to offer a quality genealogy for their descendants.
To enter the Genealogical Register, you must have a Chinese name. That is why, during the discipleship process, the member receives what we call " Kung Fu Name".

The "Baai Si" (拜師) (Discipleship Ceremony) of my Master took place in the old Central Headquarter of our institution in São Paulo. That day, Patriarch Moy Yat (PHOTO), an excellent artist of Chinese stone seals , needed a tool to prepare the stamps of the disciples in stone, and at the last minute, it was up to my Master and his  Kung -Fu brother Master Marcello Abreu the task of finding this tool through the streets of São Paulo.

In the image above, we see Marcelo Abreu, Patriarch Moy Yat and Mestre Julio Camacho.
These shirts we see in the photo were given to my master and Master Marcelo Abreu with the blank frame in their center. And it was Patriarch who made the paintings of a bamboo on their shirt .

O nome-Kung Fu dado a meu Mestre Julio Camacho por Patriarca Moy Yat foi "Moy Jo Lei Ou"(梅祖利奧)

The Kung Fu name given to my Master Julio Camacho by Patriarch Moy Yat was "Moy Jo Lei Ou" (梅祖利奧)

NOME KUNG FU:

Moy Jo Lei Ou significa:

祖(Jo)- signifca "Ancestral".

THE KUNG FU NAME:

The Kung-Fu name is often developed from the sound of the person's name, finding similar ideograms. Even so, Chinese ideograms, although different, have the same pronunciation. Therefore, ideograms must be chosen with discretion, which will end up reflecting a person's characteristic and a warning (or point to improve).

Moy Jo Lei Ou means:

梅 (Moy) - It is the family name of Moy Yat. By giving it to a descendant, symbolically, it is as if Moy Yat adopted that person. Being Master Julio his second generation disciple, Moy Yat as the legitimate descendant of Ving Tsun, gives this same condition to his disciple's disciple.

祖 (Jo) - means "Ancestral".
利 (Law) - can be translated as "Honor" (benefit, advantage)
奧 (Or) - means "mystery" and can be extended to "secret".
You can translate in several ways like:

"The Moy who honors the secret of the ancestors."

In order to honor his Master, Grandmaster Leo Imamura preferred that his students / followers [ToDai (徒弟)] do the Discipleship Ceremony ["Baai Si" (拜師)] also with Patriarch Moy Yat, and thus, symbolically, reinforce this link with the Lineage Leader. (PHOTO)
In the image, in addition to my Master Julio Camacho, we see two other Grand Masters by the International Moy Yat Ving Tsun Federation: Pete Pajil (wearing Italy Soccer Team coat) and Miguel Hernandez (holding the tray).

When the Master drinks the tea offered by the disciple, a lifelong relationship is established between the two.

My Master Julio Camacho touches his legs, his two hands and his forehead on the ground three times before Patriarch Moy Yat, as a maximum symbol of reverence in Chinese culture, which shows the honor of becoming that person's legitimate descendant.

Grandmaster Leo Imamura, invites the martial community of Brazil,
to participate in the "Baai Si" Discipleship Ceremony (拜師).

My Master Julio Camacho, in the following years, continued to honor his commitment established with his Master, accompanying him on his international trips (we see in the photo the two together with the renowned Grand Master, the legendary Mr. Micky Chan). But mainly, my Master always talks about being in tune with his Master, even though both live in different countries.

My Master, in the almost 20 trips he made to NY he always stays at Grand Master Miguel Hernandez's place. In the picture above, we see the two practicing Chi Sau in the latter's sports shop.

My Master (left in the photo) invested a lot of his time in Kung-Fu Life with Grand Master Leo Imamura, and thanks to that, he participated in moments that would later become legendary within the Clan, such as the famous visit to this school of another martial art in Kentucky, USA.
Recebeu inúmeras lembranças, muitas delas feitas pelas próprias mãos de Patriarca Moy Yat.

He received numerous memorabilia, many of them made by Patriarch Moy Yat himself.

With regard to Discipleship ["Baai Si" (拜師)], the maintenance and strengthening of this link will, naturally over time, place them at different levels within this relationship, or even if this is not the case, the disciples are categorized according to their origin or nature:

"Open Door Disciple" (Hoi Mun Dai Ji)

"Hoi Mun Dai Ji" is the "disciple with open doors". For "doors" read "Family" or read "Doors" as the object itself, but in this case "open doors for disciples".
This means that while the Master does not retire from his activities, "the doors of his
Kung Fu family are open ".

"Closed Door Disciple" (Gwaan Mun Dai Ji)

When the Master retires, he no longer accepts disciples. Therefore, the "doors close". However, there are exceptions, the most famous of which was Ip Man.
Ip Man started his Kung Fu when his Master Chan Wah Shun was already retired. For this reason, Ip Man is a "Closed Door Disciple"

"Disciple entering the room" (Yap Sat Dai Ji)

A disciple who is very close to the Master is free to enter the training area (Mo Gun) or the Master's own house, which an ordinary disciple could not.

It is interesting to say that, even after becoming a  Senior Master, my Master continues to honor his commitment established in 1996 with his Master, Mr. Leo Imamura.
Even though the contents of the system have all been received by him, my master believes that it is only coexistence and attunement with his Master. More and more will make him better practitioner, as well as, a better man.

Heart of Disciple: The Journey of the 3rd Discipleship Ceremony of Moy Lin Mah Family

An article by Heitor Furtado
Disciple of Senior Master Ursula Lima

Master Yoda, Master Splinter, Elder Master, Master Genkai, Dungeon Master, many fantasy masters and their disciples and pupils, have populated my childhood and are still present in my imagination.

However, if I was asked five years ago about being able to live with and learn from a true kung fu master and become her disciple, I would probably say that it was impossible for such a thing to happen to me.

September 21st, 2019 that changed. Fernanda Lima, Heitor Furtado (it’s me) and Vitor Barros held the 3rd Moy Lin Mah family discipleship ceremony and became respectively
Moy Fong Laan Dak (The Power of an Orchid in the Wind), Moy Hoi Tok Yi (The Confidence of an Ocean), and Moy Wai Hak Do (The Abundant when Overcoming another Dimension), Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Disciples of Master Ursula Lima ( Moy Lin Mah), my Si Fu.

The ceremony, which was attended by the illustrious presence of my Si Gung, Grand Master Leo Imamura (Moy Yat Sang), Master Julio Camacho (Moy Jo Lei Ou), who made the ceremonial opening, Master Ricardo Queiroz (Moy Ke Lo Si), Master Felipe Soares (Moy Fei Lap) and Master Thiago Pereira (Moy Fat Lei), besides friends and dear relatives, was the manifestation of a process started in late 2018 with an invitation from Si Fu to talk about the relationship between Master and disciple in her house.

It was a very pleasant and memorable afternoon where Si Fu shared some of her stories from her kung fu journey and we could hear testimonials from Si Fu's first four disciples about their experiences as dai ji.

Dinner at Si Fu House on the occasion of Hoi Mun in late 2018

A few months passed before we started the first pre-event talks. I invited as my formal presenter during the ceremony, my Si Suk, Master Felipe Soares, Moy Fei Lap family leader (MYVT Freguesia), Vitor invited our Si Hing, Master Thiago Pereira, Moy Fat Lei family leader (MYVT Méier) and Fernanda, invited our Si Baak, Master Ricardo Queiroz, leader of the Moy Ke Lo Si family ( MYVT Downtown). We had the honor and happiness of having our invitations accepted by them and we continued the process that led us to the formal Invitation, our Dak Jiu, when we expressed our desire to become disciples of Master Ursula Lima. Each of us was able to experience a very special moment. In my case, my wife Livia Furtado and I welcomed Moy Lin Mah Family leaders (Ms. Ursula Lima and her husband Ricardo Lopes -  MYVT Copacabana), Moy Fei Lap Family leader and our dear Si Jeh Helena for a lunch, at our house. Their presence filled with joy and good energy that very special afternoon.

Registros dos três Dak Jiu
Photos of the three Dak Jiu

After we three made our respective Dak Jiu, we focused on coordinating the preparations for the ceremony, which would be combined with our Si Gung Leo Imamura's official visit to Moy Yat Ving Tsun Martial Intelligence's Copacabana unit and celebration of our Si Fu's birthday.
We searched for a variety of locations as alternatives until we reached the Windsor California Hotel in Copacabana, and then, inspired by the famous film productions of the Moy Fat Lei Imagination Team, I thought of an art for the invitation to express and honor the importance and symbolism of the event that it had everything to be epic, and it was.

Convite cinematográfico
cinematographic invitation

In the meantime, while taking part in organizing the event with my kung fu family, I received a special mission from Si Fu, almost a sidequest like those that if you don't complete, beating the stage boss is not the same thing: the creation and production of “ Exclusive pin for the Moy Lin Mah family disciples ”. The opportunity to participate in this process of creation with Si Fu, who had the vision to follow the tradition of the Great Clan Moy Yat Sang and deliver a symbol of disciple status, which should always be used in conjunction with the Great Clan pin. It was a great satisfaction and honor for me, and an inspiration for all of us.

Essas palavras me marcaram e consegui estar muito presente durante a cerimônia, me apropriando e vivendo o momento.

I remember Si Fu's words saying that during the three reverences we would make during the ceremony, we should do them calmly, without haste, take our time, to avoid bumping our heads hard on the floor (laughs). These words marked me and I was able to be very present during the ceremony, appropriating and living the moment. The sense of warmth and respect I felt as I listened to the words of Master Felipe Soares, as I poured tea for Si Fu and Si Gung, when I bowed, or received my name kung Fu, did not fit into words, and It was thus, without words, that I made my first speech, deeply moved, to the guests, including my father, mother, sister, niece, my cousin and Si Jeh Angela Carvalho (Moy On Gaak Lai, fourth disciple of Si Fu) and my wife and I could see these worlds of my life converge, even for a moment.

Minha família, Si Fu e Si Gung após a cerimônia
My family Si Fu and Si Gung after the ceremony

Emotions overflowed that night, as they did during the first discipleship ceremony of the Moy Lin Mah family, when Si Hing Rodolpho Alcantara (Moy Gaap Mah), Si Jeh Helena Carneiro (Moy Gaap Lin) and Si Hing André Villareal (Moy Yuet Mah) became disciples at the end of 2015. Vitor and my Si jeh Fernanda were moved and moved us during their Baai Si moments.
I make a special note of the performance of my esteemed Si Hing André Villareal by the way he conducted the ceremony and later the celebration of Si Fu's birthday.
During the birthday, Si Fu was honored by her brothers and her kung fu family, friends and family. We had the opportunity to do some musical performances, which are becoming a hallmark of our ceremonies and celebrations, and many, many stories emerged from the deep, transformative and rich experience that culminated that night.
We had some delicate times, of course, things don't always go as planned, but we used our kung fu to move on as best we could and go on together. The post-event I think is curious. We had our post-event, we raised points of improvement, points that we did things right, but the responsibility and commitment we made that night created a special post-event that is for life.

Heitor Furtado,
Moy Hoi Tok Yi

Now, following a Kung Fu Master as formidable and real as mine, I carry in my heart of disciple a confidence as big and deep as an ocean and I end this text by thanking Si Hing Thiago Pereira for the opportunity. Many thanks to my Si fu and my kung fu and
consanguine families. In the wise words of Si Baak Julio Camacho “Let us go together!”

THE TWO NEW DISCIPLES OF MOY KE LO SI FAMILY

(Foto oficial da Cerimônia de Baai Si da Família Moy Ke Lo Si)
(Official photo of Moy Ke Lo Si Family´s Baai Si Ceremony)

As portas abertas prestes a fechar a qualquer momento. Aguardava minha To Dai Christiana.

The subway train that connected the Ocean Garden Station to the Cinelandia station was standing in front of me. The doors open about to close at any moment. My dear black suitcase I carried in Europe was there with me too. I waited for my To Dai Christiana. She had taken us in her car out of the Meier neighborhood. We were on time for my appointment: I had been honored to be invited to the Third Moy Ke Lo Si Family Discipleship Ceremony. I looked at the top of the stairs and no sign of Chris. She had been left behind when I stepped up. As She had not remembered the subway ticket, I passed and she stayed to buy hers. At that moment, I remembered the legendary adventure on the Barcelona trains with Si Fu and Claudio. Now there I was, on the other side of the story. I thought for half a second to go and leave Chris if the train left, but I thought it would be an over-expected experience for the Siu Nim Tau Domain. At that moment, I watched as Chris started down the stairs, and I reflected that I should adjust the experience to her moment in the Ving Tsun System. So, leaning against the wall of one of the carriages, we made a brief post-event of what had happened so far, and prepared for what would follow.
(With my To Dai Chris Chagas, at night in meeting event on the same day)

Estava atrasado , e decidido a chegar o quanto antes.

When we got off at the Cinelandia station, Chris was already able to follow me closer, and we walked steadily to the venue. We were late, and I was determined to get there as soon as possible.
(Thats me watching the Ke Lo Si Family Leaders doing the Ceremonial Procedures)

When we finally arrived, I realized that Si Suk Queiroz had delayed the start of the Ceremony in a few minutes because of my delay. And since they were all ready, the ceremonial procedures quickly began.
In fact, there is no form of an "Honorable Witness" formally speaking, according to our organization's procedures. But I noticed that there was a chair reserved for me, next to the "Sam Toi" (ancestral table).
A Si Fu usually says that his greatest asset is the Kung Fu Family, and about to sit there. After all the rushing to arrive, I tried to organize myself internally, to contribute dignity with to honor the position that was offered to me.

Dudu, Lamarão, Jorge, and so many other "Kung Fu Cousins" I like so much were there too. As always, they brought through their words, all the affection they have for each other. Moreover, these honest words demonstrate the close relationship that they hold with each other. Something really inspiring.
Azevedo, the first to offer tea to Si Suk Queiroz, remembered to thank not only his Si Fu for the opportunity, but also his Si Mo. The figure of his wife, who was present, was also remembered as a great incentive of his process.
Thus, the importance of these figures is recorded.

My dear Si Suk Mo Flavia Bambrilla, who is the wife of Si Suk Queiroz and Si Mo of the Moy Ke Lo Si Family. Watches carefully at the moment when Azevedo hands over the "Hung Baau" to his Si Fu, in thanksgiving for his tea.
A "Si Mo" does not necessarily need to be a practitioner to be respected. And, roughly in the case of our partners, as the wife of Azevedo. She would not need to either openly encourage or support her husband's trajectory.
François Jullien, in his book "Figures of Immanence" (Figures de L'immanence - Pour une lecture philosophique du Yi King, 1993), says: "... It is proper for a thought concerned with transcendence to seek to explore the other (that is to say, that in which the other is truly another and can be constituted in exteriority.) In contrast with this opening to the beyond, it is proper for a thought of immanence to seek to value, and to operate, all that exists of the same in the other and that allows its correlation ... "

At the "Baai Si" ceremony, the tea should also be offered to Si Mo if there is one, or the husband of a Si Fu. In case this figure is a woman. In the photo above, we see the moment that after offering tea to his Si Fu, Leo Macedo, flanked by his Kung Fu brother, the gentle Jorge Rocha. Watches his Si Mo drinking tea.
This act on the part of the leaders of a Kung Fu Family, symbolically explicit, the commitment assumed with the new disciple from then on, for the rest of life and beyond.
It may seem strange to understand this process at first if you are not from a Kung Fu Family. And because, in the face of a thought that is external to both our conceptual habits and our most common metaphysical actions, we need an assimilation by the acquisition of a custom that goes beyond mere understanding. (Jullien, François, 1997). Thus, it is clear the importance of the "Familiar" process to favor the favorable as "Kung Fu Life" as a means of access to the Ving Tsun System.

After the Ceremony, we went with Moy Ke Lo Si Family to a hotel for lunch. All in a very pleasant atmosphere. It even caught my attention when Si Suk Queiroz calmed Leo and his wife, asking them to let the children make noises throughout the Ceremony. He said that was great.
Me and Chris were just beginning our adventure ... "Chapter 1" had been breakfast at Méier and the race to get there in time. The "Chapter 2" was Ceremony of "Baai Si" ... And even before it ended, a new adventure began on the subway to the Copacabana School ... But this is a story for another day ...
Devido a excelência profissional destas duas pessoas. Sorte aos dois!
