When No One Is Watching — 当没有人观看时

Em março de 2023, tive essa oportunidade única de participar de uma exemplificação, servindo como assistente do GM William Moy durante um painel que ocorreu por ocasião do aniversário do GM Leo Imamura sobre o Luk Dim Bun Gwan 六點半棍 (Liù Diǎn Bàn Gùn, 六点半棍) [FOTO]. É muito especial observar que, sem orientação adequada, não importa o quanto possamos insistir, existe um limite claro para nossos potenciais entendimentos e aprofundamentos.

Recentemente, na condição de secretário-geral do Instituto Moy Yat, tenho tido a feliz oportunidade de prestigiar as Masterclasses conduzidas pelo GM William Moy e promovidas pelo Instituto a respeito do Luk Dim Bun Gwan 六點半棍 (Liù Diǎn Bàn Gùn, 六点半棍).

 Acredito que um dos pontos mais emblemáticos para mim tem sido a maneira sincera com que todos os seus discípulos se entregam para que suas considerações possam ser exemplificadas na tela. Os Si Suk 師叔 (Shīshū, 师叔) realmente se propõem a dar tudo de si em cada demonstração, e isso foi me trazendo de volta a cada encontro, com um prazer ainda maior de explorar minha prática favorita em todo o Sistema.

In March 2023, I had the unique opportunity to take part in an exemplification, serving as GM William Moy’s assistant during a panel held on the occasion of GM Leo Imamura’s birthday, focusing on the Luk Dim Bun Gwan 六點半棍 (Liù Diǎn Bàn Gùn, 六点半棍) [PHOTO]. It is very special to observe that, without proper guidance, no matter how much we may insist, there is a clear limit to our potential for understanding and deepening our knowledge.

More recently, in my capacity as Secretary-General of the Moy Yat Institute, I have had the fortunate opportunity to attend the Masterclasses conducted by GM William Moy and promoted by the Institute on the Luk Dim Bun Gwan 六點半棍 (Liù Diǎn Bàn Gùn, 六点半棍).

I believe that one of the most emblematic aspects for me has been the sincere manner in which all his disciples dedicate themselves so that his considerations can be exemplified on screen. The Si Suk 師叔 (Shīshū, 师叔) truly set out to give their very best in every demonstration, and this kept bringing me back to each session, with an ever greater pleasure in exploring my favourite practice throughout the entire System.

Existe uma entidade venerada no sudeste asiático, chamada Handan Ye 寒單爺 (Hándān Yé, 寒单爷), e tomei conhecimento dela a partir de um livro que li em 2023, do antropólogo americano Avron Boretz, que investigou, ao longo de quase duas décadas de trabalho de campo em Taiwan e na China, diferentes tipos de rituais, resultando exatamente no livro Gods, Ghosts, and Gangsters: Ritual Violence, Martial Arts, and Masculinity on the Margins of Chinese Society (University of Hawaii Press, 2011).

Sua tese central é que os gestos das artes marciais estão tão profundamente incorporados ao repertório ritual chinês precisamente porque simbolizam qualidades masculinas de violência, potência e prontidão física e que, ao mesmo tempo, tanto para quem atua quanto para quem assiste, esses gestos evocam o Jianghu 江湖 (Jiānghú, 江湖): o mundo  dos "Rios e Lagos", muitas vezes violento, de foras-da-lei e mestres das artes marciais...

No artigo intitulado "Handan Ye: When the Jianghu Climbs Onto the Palanquin" [Taitung's Bombarding Handan God Festival 台東炸寒單], é dito que todo ano, na noite de 15 de janeiro do calendário lunar, na cidade de Taitung 臺東 (Táidōng, 台东), no leste de Taiwan, um homem sobe seminu a uma cadeira de bambu amarrada a dois longos varais, protegido apenas por uma calça vermelha curta, um pano vermelho na cabeça e um ramo de figueira-de-bengala nas mãos. Quatro carregadores erguem a cadeira. A multidão então começa a atirar fogos de artifício diretamente contra o corpo dele. Consegue imaginar a cena? Consegue se imaginar na pele do homem que incorpora a entidade?

There is an entity venerated in Southeast Asia called Handan Ye 寒單爺 (Hándān Yé, 寒单爷), which I first learned about through a book I read in 2023 by the American anthropologist Avron Boretz, who, over almost two decades of fieldwork in Taiwan and China, investigated different forms of ritual, resulting in the book Gods, Ghosts, and Gangsters: Ritual Violence, Martial Arts, and Masculinity on the Margins of Chinese Society (University of Hawai‘i Press, 2011).

His central thesis is that martial arts gestures are so deeply embedded within the Chinese ritual repertoire precisely because they symbolise masculine qualities of violence, potency and physical readiness and that, at the same time, for both those who perform them and those who watch, these gestures evoke the Jianghu 江湖 (Jiānghú, 江湖): the world of “Rivers and Lakes”, often a violent world of outlaws and martial arts masters...

In the article entitled “Handan Ye: When the Jianghu Climbs Onto the Palanquin” [Taitung’s Bombarding Handan God Festival 台東炸寒單], it is said that every year, on the night of the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar, in the city of Taitung 臺東 (Táidōng, 台东), in eastern Taiwan, a man climbs, half-naked, onto a bamboo palanquin tied to two long poles, protected only by a pair of short red trousers, a red cloth around his head, and a branch of banyan tree in his hands. Four bearers lift the palanquin. The crowd then begins throwing fireworks directly at his body.

Can you imagine the scene? Can you imagine yourself in the skin of the man who embodies the deity?

Resolvi entrar na posição de guarda chamada de Gwan Jong 棍樁 (Gùn Zhuāng, 棍桩), para executar o Biu Gwan 標棍 (Biāo Gùn, 标棍). Gesto por gesto, estaria bom, mas pude perceber com mais clareza que não estava presente em todas as etapas do procedimento. Comecei novamente, e de novo e de novo. O Si Gung 師公 (Shīgōng, 师公) não estava lá, não tinha ninguém, eu podia parar, mas não podia aceitar isso. Se você está presente em cada etapa, mas sua mente foge por um momento, em uma espécie de comemoração interna, quando você volta, percebe que o bastão estava vazio naquele milésimo de segundo.

Acredite se quiser, mas foram longos vinte minutos até que eu me desse por satisfeito. E eu estava feliz, porque aquilo não era uma mera repetição, era uma nova forma de estudar. Uma forma de incorporar o critério daquele Domínio. "Fazer mais Biu Gwan 標棍 (Biāo Gùn, 标棍)" vai muito além do número de disparos que você dá. Minhas pernas não doíam, eu não estava cansado, eu estava calmo. 

I decided to take up the guard position known as Gwan Jong 棍樁 (Gùn Zhuāng, 棍桩) in order to perform Biu Gwan 標棍 (Biāo Gùn, 标棍). Gesture by gesture, it would have been fine, but I realised more clearly that I was not fully present throughout every stage of the procedure. I started again, and again, and again. My Si Gung 師公 (Shīgōng, 师公) was not there; there was no one else around. I could stop, but I could not accept that.

If you are present at every stage, but your mind wanders for a moment, in a kind of internal celebration, when you return, you realise that the staff was empty in that fraction of a second.

Believe it or not, it took a full twenty minutes before I was satisfied. And I was happy, because that was not mere repetition; it was a new way of studying. A way of incorporating the criteria of that Domain. “Doing more Biu Gwan 標棍 (Biāo Gùn, 标棍)” goes far beyond the number of thrusts you perform. My legs did not hurt, I was not tired, I was calm.

Talvez a entrega nunca tenha sido sobre quem está olhando.

Os discípulos do Grão-Mestre William Moy se entregam diante das câmeras, sabendo que serão vistos por gerações inteiras da nossa Linhagem. O homem que veste a calça vermelha em Taitung 臺東 (Táidōng, 台东), incorpora Handan Ye 寒單爺 (Hándān Yé, 寒单爷) e  se entrega diante de uma multidão inteira, que o vê arder para que a comunidade receba sua bênção. E eu, sozinho, numa sala vazia do Instituto Moy Yat, sem Si Gung 師公 (Shīgōng, 师公), sem discípulos, sem uma única testemunha além do próprio bastão nas mãos, me entreguei da mesma forma exata, porque percebi, naquela noite, que a entrega nunca foi sobre o tamanho da plateia. Foi sempre sobre se, mesmo sem ninguém para ver, você ainda está disposto a se entregar por inteiro.

É fácil confundir entrega com espetáculo, porque o espetáculo é a única parte da entrega que os outros conseguem enxergar. Mas o espetáculo é só o Ying 形 (Xíng, 形), a forma visível de algo que precisa nascer muito antes, em silêncio, sem plateia nenhuma para validar. 

Foi por isso que aqueles vinte minutos sozinho, repetindo o mesmo gesto até que nenhum milésimo de segundo ficasse vazio, importaram tanto quanto qualquer demonstração diante de qualquer plateia. A verdadeira entrega começa quando já não há ninguém para aplaudi-la.

Perhaps surrender was never about who was watching.

The disciples of Grandmaster William Moy surrender themselves before the cameras, knowing that they will be seen by entire generations of our lineage. The man wearing the red trousers in Taitung 臺東 (Táidōng, 台东), embodying Handan Ye 寒單爺 (Hándān Yé, 寒单爷), surrenders himself before an entire crowd, allowing himself to be engulfed by fire so that the community may receive his blessing. And I, alone in an empty room at the Moy Yat Institute, without my Si Gung 師公 (Shīgōng, 师公), without disciples, without a single witness other than the staff in my hands, surrendered myself in exactly the same way, because that night I realised that to deliver all of yourself was never about the size of the audience. It was always about whether, even with no one there to see you, you are still willing to give yourself completely.

It is easy to confuse go with all your heart with spectacle, because spectacle is the only part of it that others can see. But spectacle is merely the Ying 形 (Xíng, 形), the visible form of something that must emerge much earlier, in silence, without an audience to validate it.

That is why those twenty minutes alone, repeating the same gesture until not a single fraction of a second remained empty, mattered as much as any demonstration before any audience.

True surrender begins when there is no one left to applaud it.

Every discipline eventually asks the same question the Luk Dim Bun Gwan asked me, alone, in an empty room: are you still willing to give yourself completely when no one is watching?

"Luk Dim Bun Gwan" with Grand Master William Moy.

 Eu já estava auxiliando o Painel por muitas horas, ansiosamente aguardando para ouvir o Grão-Mestre William Moy falar sobre 'Luk Dim Bun Gwan'. Acontece que quando era bem mais jovem, meu Mestre Julio Camacho teria me dito que, ao conversar com o Grão-Mestre William Moy em São Paulo certa vez, ele teria compartilhado que quando se tem uma consciência clara da linha do ombro ao praticar o 'Luk Dim Bun Gwan', você dificilmente precisaria olhar. Pois o bastão seguiria a linha naturalmente em direção ao do adversário. Aquela história me fascinou tanto pela minha pouca idade quanto pelo fato de que naqueles tempos não era permitido assistir à prática de 'Luk Dim Bun Gwan'. Então, imaginar o filho do Patriarca Moy Yat praticando sem precisar olhar o adversário era quase mágico. Num piscar de olhos, 22 anos se passaram e eu estava ali de pé, segurando o microfone para que o Grão-Mestre William, em pessoa, pudesse falar exatamente sobre o 'Luk Dim Bun Gwan'. Nestes momentos, eu fico muito emocionado com a vida, é algo quase mágico, e eu estava muito concentrado para não sorrir, pois era quase involuntário. Afinal, uma parte minha pensou: 'Será que ele faria a demonstração sem olhar para o adversário?'.

I had been assisting the Panel for many hours, eagerly anticipating Grand Master William Moy's discussion on 'Luk Dim Bun Gwan'. It so happened that when I was much younger, my Master Julio Camacho allegedly told me that during a conversation with Grand Master William Moy in São Paulo on a certain occasion, he shared that when you have a clear awareness of the shoulder line while practicing 'Luk Dim Bun Gwan', you hardly need to look. As the staff would naturally follow the line towards the opponent. That story fascinated me both because of my young age and the fact that in those days, it wasn't allowed to watch 'Luk Dim Bun Gwan' practice. So, imagining the son of Patriarch Moy Yat practicing without looking was almost magical. In the blink of an eye, 22 years had passed and there I was standing, holding the microphone so that Grand Master William himself could speak precisely about 'Luk Dim Bun Gwan'. In these moments, I become very emotional about life; it's almost magical, and I was very focused not to smile, as it was almost involuntary. After all, a part of me wondered - 'Would he demonstrate without looking to his oponnent?'

Naquele dia, saí do hotel com meu discípulo Daniel e o aluno do Mestre Felipe Soares às 6h da manhã para ajudar na montagem. Amo as manhãs de sábado e especialmente aquela, que tinha tudo para ser um grande dia, e eu simplesmente não imaginava que o Grão-Mestre William me pediria para ajudar na demonstração. Estava emocionado, parecia não haver motivo para isso, mas era algo que carregava no coração. Talvez por isso, quando ele disse - 'Pega o bastão' - segurei o bastão dele e não o outro. Assim, por uns 3 segundos, éramos nós dois, cada um segurando a ponta do mesmo bastão, com ele me olhando talvez tentando entender o que eu estava fazendo, até que ele disse - 'Não esse, o outro bastão'.

On that day, I left the hotel with my disciple Daniel and Master Felipe Soares's student at 6 a.m. to assist with the setup. I love Saturday mornings, especially that one, which had all the makings of a great day, and I simply didn't imagine that Grand Master William would ask me to help with the demonstration. I was moved, it seemed there was no reason for it, but it was something I carried in my heart. Perhaps that's why when he said - 'Pick up the pole' - I grabbed his staff and not the other. So, for about 3 seconds, it was just the two of us, each holding one end of the same staff, with him looking at me, perhaps trying to understand what I was doing, until he said - 'Not this one, the other pole'.

"Ok, você pode disparar" - disse ele. E eu dei o meu melhor disparo.

 Assim, você poderia me ver ali na demonstração.

"Okay, now, go ahead." he said. And I took my best shot. 

So, you could see me there in the demonstration.

Quando abrimos um "Mo Gun", devemos ter claro a razão de fazermos isso dentro do contexto em que estivermos, é o que eu acho. Se você perder de vista que seu trabalho é a salvaguarda do Sistema Ving Tsun, talvez você faça coisas pelo dinheiro, pelo poder que a posição de liderança proporciona (ainda que dentro de uma pequena "bolha" das pessoas do seu convívio), pode ser que você se permita não cumprir o que foi combinado seja com um único aluno ou com um grupo inteiro. Ou talvez, por inocência, você não dimensione a responsabilidade que esse ato exigirá de você. Da mesma maneira, acredito que conforme os anos vão passando para um profissional ou simplesmente alguém que conduz um trabalho nesse ramo, se perdermos de vista o encantamento e o colorido que as artes marciais nos proporcionaram quando começamos a jornada, nós perdemos as forças e desistimos. Você pode até dizer: "Ei, eu estou focando nisso agora, ou naquilo..." - Mas no fundo, você já não consegue mais priorizar. E como diz o adágio citado por Yamamoto Tsunetomo no livro "Hagakure" (Ed. Conrad, 2004) - "Quando seu coração pergunta, o que você responde?" - Por isso, momentos como esse com o Grão Mestre William Moy significam muito para mim. Existem aqueles objetivos iniciais de quando você começou, e cada vez que você passa por eles mais amadurecido, você se pergunta: "Eu cheguei lá?" - Naquele momento, por alguns singelos minutos, existe um Thiago de 18 anos em algum lugar aqui dentro que, 22 anos depois, não só presenciou a tão sonhada demonstração de bastão do Grão Mestre William, quanto participou com ele. Se isso não for o máximo para um artista marcial, não sei mais o que é. Eu nunca desisti.

When we open a 'Mo Gun', we must have clear the reason for doing so within the context in which we find ourselves, that's what I believe. If you lose sight that your job is to safeguard the Ving Tsun System, perhaps you may do things for money, for the power that the leadership position provides (even within a small 'bubble' of the people in your circle), you may allow yourself not to fulfill what was agreed upon with a single student or with an entire group. Or perhaps, out of innocence, you may not fully grasp the responsibility that this act will demand of you. Similarly, I believe that as the years go by for a professional or simply someone who conducts work in this field, if we lose sight of the enchantment and colour that martial arts provided us when we began the journey, we lose strength and give up. You might even say: 'Hey, I'm focusing on this now, or on that...' - But deep down, you can no longer prioritize. And as the saying goes, as quoted by Yamamoto Tsunetomo in the book 'Hagakure' (Ed. Conrad, 2004) - 'When your heart asks, what do you answer?' - That's why moments like these with Grand Master William Moy mean a lot to me. There are those initial objectives from when you started, and each time you pass through them more mature, you ask yourself: 'Have I made it?' - At that moment, for a few simple minutes, there is an 18-year-old Thiago somewhere inside who, 22 years later, not only witnessed the long-awaited demonstration of Grand Master William's staff, but also took part in it. If that isn't the ultimate for a martial artist, I don't know what is. I never gave up

Interview with GM Leo Imamura - The importance of a Si Fu's birthday.

O Blog do Pereira tem a honra de entrevistar o Grão-Mestre Leo Imamura mais uma vez. E nesta oportunidade, falaremos de um evento sem precedentes que ocorrerá na capital do nosso país por ocasião do seu aniversário. Serão três dias de grande impacto no cenário das artes marciais do Brasil, quando Grão-Mestres de fora do país da Linhagem Moy Yat, bem como Mestres brasileiros de expressão internacional do Karate, Aikido e Judo estarão presentes.

Com dois dias dedicados a práticas que compreenderão todo o Sistema Ving Tsun, além de estudos específicos de Chi Sau, conduzidos por autoridades de alto nível desta arte, será um verdadeiro marco para aqueles que estiverem presentes. Além disso, o auditório do Senado Federal servirá de palco para o último dia de evento, no qual os Mestres presentes poderão fazer palestras que têm o potencial de reapresentar o importante papel das artes marciais para a sociedade.

Acompanhe abaixo, como em poucas linhas, Grão-Mestre Leo Imamura compartilha muito do seu entendimento sobre a importância do aniversário de um Si Fu, no ano e no evento em que ele completa 61 anos de idade.

The Peartrees's Blog has the honor of interviewing Grand Master Leo Imamura once again. And on this opportunity, we will talk about an unprecedented event that will take place in the capital of Brazil on the occasion of his birthday. It will be three days of great impact on the martial arts scene in Brazil, when Grand Masters from outside the country of the Moy Yat Lineage, as well as Brazilian Masters of international expression in Karate, Aikido, and Judo will be present.

With two days dedicated to practices that will encompass the entire Ving Tsun System in addition to specific Chi Sau studies, conducted by high-level authorities in this art, it will be a true milestone for those who are present. Furthermore, the Federal Senate auditorium will serve as the stage for the last day of the event, in which the Masters present will be able to give lectures that have the potential to reintroduce the important role of martial arts for society.

Follow below, as in a few lines, Grand Master Leo Imamura shares much of his understanding about the importance of a Si Fu's birthday, in the year and event in which he turns 61 years old.

1-  O senhor passou por alguma dificuldade para estar nos aniversários do Patriarca Moy Yat? Por que o senhor fazia questão de ir?
Did you face any challenges in attending Patriarch Moy Yat's birthdays? Why was it important for you to attend?

L.I.  -  A importância do aniversário do Si Fu diz respeito à confirmação do vínculo familiar, que é um pseudo- parentesco. Por isso, a presença é fundamental. O Patriarca Moy Yat não só ia, como também organizava o aniversário do Patriarca Ip Man. É fundamental que você possa manifestar esse vínculo.

Eu  tinha um desafio que muitas vezes minha vida não coincidia com o aniversário dele. Eu tinha um combinado diferente com ele, muitas vezes voltando para o Brasil uma semana antes de seu aniversário. Somado a isso, tinha a dificuldade de se ajustar às questões financeiras, e o aniversário da sua Si Taai que era um dia depois do aniversário dele.

ENGLISH -  The significance of  a Si Fu's birthday relates to the confirmation of the family bond, which is a pseudo-kinship. Therefore, presence is crucial. Patriarch Moy Yat not only attended but also organized the birthday celebration for Patriarch Ip Man. It is essential that you can express this connection.

I faced a challenge where often my life did not align with his birthday. I had a different arrangement with him, frequently returning to Brazil a week before his birthday. In addition, there was the difficulty of adjusting to financial matters, and your Si Taai 's birthday, which was one day after his own.

2-O senhor considera que existe algum momento da jornada Kung Fu de alguém que é imprescindível estar presente nesse tipo de celebração?

Do you believe there is a crucial moment in someone's Kung Fu journey that necessitates being present at such a celebration?

L.I. -  Existem dificuldades, mas tudo é uma questão de oportunidade, por exemplo, os 'big numbers'... 40, 50, 60, 70 anos de idade... São anos importantes em que a pessoa precisa estar presente, inclusive se você é considerado um membro importante na família.

ENGLLISH - There are challenges, but it's all a matter of opportunity. For instance, the 'big numbers'... 40, 50, 60, 70 years old... These are significant years where one needs to be present, especially if you are considered an important member of the family.

3-O que haverá de diferente na celebração do aniversário do senhor este ano? 
What will be different about your birthday celebration this year? 

L.I. - Este ano, o que queremos fazer é trazer a união e o apoio de pessoas que possam estar trabalhando em conjunto. Por isso, teremos o evento no senado federal para expandir nossa mensagem para outras camadas da sociedade. Já temos nomes confirmados que são meus amigos, do Judô, Karatê e Aikido.

ENGLISH - This year, what we aim to do is foster unity and support from individuals who can collaborate. Therefore, we will hold the event at the Federal Senate to broaden our message to other layers of society. We already have confirmed names, including friends from Judo, Karate, and Aikido.

4- Como se dará este estudo do Sistema Ving Tsun com os Grão Mestres?

How will the study of the Ving Tsun System with the Grand Masters take place?

L.I. - Teremos um painel para falar de todos os domínios do Siu Nim Tau ao Baat Jaam Do. E teremos também pessoas conduzindo práticas de Chi Sau de alto nível.

ENGLISH - We will have a panel to discuss all aspects from Siu Nim Tau to Baat Jaam Do. Additionally, there will be individuals leading high-level Chi Sau practices.

5 - Mestres e praticantes afastados serão bem-vindos?
Are Masters and practitioners who are currently away welcome?

L.I. - Todos os discípulos são bem-vindos, Apesar de muitas vezes a relação estar distanciada, é muito importante estar presente para reafirmar essa relação. Muitas vezes, uma maneira de fazer isso numa impossibilidade é enviar um vídeo, por exemplo. Mas quando você envia vídeo duas, três, quatro vezes... Isso começa a perder sentido. O vídeo é um meio para compensar a ausencia, e não para ser um recurso permanente.

ENGLISH - All disciples are welcome. Although the relationship is often distant, it is very important to be present to reaffirm this relationship. Often, a way to do this when this is impossible is to send a video, for example. But when you send video two, three, four times... It starts to lose meaning. Video is a means to compensate for absence, not to be a permanent resource.

6- Haverá titulações na oportunidade?
Will there be certifications available during the occasion?

L.I. - Haverá muitas titulações e promoções.

ENGLISH- There will be numerous certifications and promotions.

7- Haverá convidados internacionais? O senhor já tem os nomes?
Will there be international guests? Do you already have the names?

L.I. - A própria presença do GM William Moy , presidente da International Moy Yat Ving Tsun Federation, vai ajudar muito nesse reconhecimento internacional. Principalmente aqueles que estão fazendo o trabalho vinculado a International Moy Yat Ving Tsun Federation. Também estarão presentes o Grão Mestre Pete Pajil, Chairman do Conselho de Grão Mestres e o Mestre Senior Wayne Belonoha, que é vice-presidente da International Moy Yat Ving Tsun Federation. Além de brasileiros de expressão internacional, como o Sensei Roberto Santana do Karate, que nos honrará com sua presença. Então teremos pessoas de nível internacional a confirmar também.

ENGLISH - The very presence of GM William Moy, president of the International Moy Yat Ving Tsun Federation, will help a lot with this international recognition. L.I. -  A maior homenagem que eu posso receber é a presença das pessoas, e a pior homenagem é a ausência. Eu sinto muito quando os discípulos não aparecem, sendo considerados discípulos e tendo condições de aparecer. É triste.

ENGLISH -  The greatest tribute I can receive is the presence of people, and the worst tribute is their absence. I feel disheartened when disciples don't show up, especially when they are considered disciples and have the means to attend. It is saddening.

“Uma vida em um dia” será o nome do evento que acontecerá no dia 18 de março de 2024 no Auditório Petrônio Portela do Senado Federal em Brasília. “Uma vida em um dia” é uma tradução livre de uma antiga expressão chinesa “Yat Yat, Yat Saang”, que enfatiza a importância de viver plenamente um dia pode valer por uma vida.

Convidados por Grão-mestre Leo Imamura para explicar como a gestão estratégica de conflito pode contribuir para o desenvolvimento humano. Grandes artistas marciais de várias partes do mundo compartilharão como suas ricas experiências de vida podem ajudar as pessoas no dia-a-dia.

Com entrada franca aberta ao público, este evento será apresentado pela Embaixadora da Paz Maria Paula Fidalgo.

Este momento histórico será registrado profissionalmente para que todos possam guardar para vida toda a importância deste dia. 

Afinal, viver bem um dia pode valer para a vida toda.

"One Life in a Day" will be the name of the event taking place on March 18, 2024, at the Petrônio Portela Auditorium of the Federal Senate in Brasília. "One Life in a Day" is a loose translation of the ancient Chinese expression "Yat Yat, Yat Saang," which underscores the importance that fully living one day can be as valuable as a lifetime.

Invited by Grandmaster Leo Imamura to elaborate on how strategic conflict management can contribute to human development, prominent martial artists from various parts of the world will share how their rich life experiences can assist people in their daily lives.

With free admission open to the public, this event will be presented by the Peace Ambassador Maria Paula Fidalgo.

This historic moment will be professionally documented, allowing everyone to preserve the significance of this day for a lifetime. After all, living one day well can be worth a lifetime.

A primeira viagem em Comitiva com o Clã Moy Jo Lei Ou:  O dia se iniciou na madrugada, a ansiedade era grande, e estávamos tomados pela tensão de possíveis questões que poderiam ocorrer na viagem. Nossa mente também estava voltada a um problema particular que tínhamos acabado de  receber a notícia(já que somos marido e mulher além de irmãos Kung Fu). Em alguns momentos pareceu não ser possível relaxar. Antes de sair de casa, na nossa prateleira, estava o especial presente de Si Fu: Em sua viagem em Comitiva do Clã Moy Jo Lei Ou para a Polonia: Uma nota de 50 Zlotys, assinada por ele com a frase "One Day, One Life". Por isso, sabíamos que precisávamos nos dedicar a aproveitar a viagem que se seguiria.

The first journey as part of a delegation of the Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou: The day started at dawn, anxiety was great, and we were overwhelmed by the tension of possible issues that could occur in the journey. Our mind was also turned to a particular problem we had just received the news (since we are husband and wife besides Kung Fu brothers). At times like that it seems not to be possible to relax. Before leaving home, on our shelf, was the special gift from our Si Fu: On his journey in Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou delegation to Poland: A note of 50 Zlotys, signed by him with the phrase "One Day, One Life ". So we knew we had to devote ourselves to taking advantage of the next trip.

 Nos encontramos às 6h da manhã no Mo Gun, e iniciamos a viagem de carro com o Si Fu. E pudemos nos sintonizar acerca do roteiro da viagem, conversar sobre os momentos que se seguiriam, e conversar sobre questões pessoais e nossa Família Kung Fu.
Tranquilamente dá pra dizer que nos sentimos como um praticante do Biu Ji em virtude de acontecimentos anteriores a viagem, como citado acima, os quais tranquilamente poderiamos ter usado como desculpa para não termos participado desta comitiva. Mantivemos em mente o que o Si Fu diria à respeito do “Biu Ji”, ou seja, “sem desculpas”! A preocupação não deixou de existir, porém não precisa afetar, não faria sentido deixar afetar.

We meet at 6am in the morning at Mo Gun, and start driving with Si Fu. And we were able to tune in on the script of the trip, talk about the moments that would follow, and talk about personal issues and our Kung Fu Family.
Quietly we can say that we feel like a Biu Ji practitioner because of events previous to the trip, as mentioned above, which we could quietly have used as an excuse not to participate in this delegation. We kept in mind what Si Fu would say about "Biu Ji": "no excuses"! 
The concern did not cease to exist, but it need not affect, it would not make sense to let affect.

O café da manhã foi no Restaurante Graal em Resende.. Era uma bela manhã que a cada segundo permitia pensar no que teríamos perdido caso tivéssemos desistido! Os assuntos durante a viagem foram dos mais diversos e ouvir o Si Fu falar sempre é motivador! Seguimos então viagem para São Paulo, até o momento adiantados em nossa programação.
Conseguimos nos organizar e ter bom timing para participar do almoço, onde encontramos a Si Suk Carmem e o Si Gung Julio Camacho. Conversamos rapidamente, porém foi bom por vivenciarmos um momento com o Si Gung, que não víamos a algum tempo.

 Breakfast was at Graal Restaurant in Resende city. It was a beautiful morning that every second allowed us to think about what we would have lost had we given up! The subjects during the trip were of the most diverse and listening to the Si Fu talk is always motivating! We then traveled to Sao Paulo, so far advanced in our schedule.
We managed to organize ourselves and have good timing to attend the lunch, where we find Si Suk Carmem and Si Gung Julio Camacho. We talked quickly, but it was good to experience a moment with Si Gung, which we did not see for a while.

                   Seguimos para o Instituto Moy Yat de Uber, e ao chegar, impressionava o zelo minucioso em cada canto do local. Era possível apreciar diversos itens históricos, e conhecer um pouco mais sobre o “Feng Shui” aplicado à um recinto marcial, graças ao trabalho com muita excelência, de Si Taai Baak Gung John Tsang.

We drove to the Moy Yat Institute in Uber, and upon arriving, impressed the meticulous zeal in every corner of the place. It was possible to appreciate several historical items, and to know a little more about the "Feng Shui" applied to a martial school, thanks to the work with great excellence, of Si Taai Baak Gung John Tsang.

There were so many living memories inside and out of every environment! The Institute is incredible and the feeling inside is that light and wind go through the whole structure making everything have a special glow bringing a light and pure air.

Participar da inauguração foi incrível e cada palavra proferida lá teve toda intenção de celebrar um legado que provê muita qualidade em desenvolvimento humano. Foram momentos emocionantes, e cada palavra e discurso revelava um pouco mais sobre a grandiosidade de Si Jo Moy Yat, e sobre o quão impactante será o Instituto Moy Yat para toda a Linhagem Moy Yat.

Attending the inauguration was incredible and every word spoken there had every intention of celebrating a legacy that provides a lot of quality in human development. These were exciting times, and every word and speech revealed a little more about the greatness of Si Jo Moy Yat, and about how shocking the Moy Yat Institute is going to be for the entire Moy Yat Lineage.

We proceeded to the celebration dinner (PHOTO), and Si Suk Carmem shared about her knowledge about wines. We were then able to enjoy one of the wines available, harmonized with the dish we ordered.

Finally, we return to the Hotel and we come across an Arcade machine with several games in which we play with Si Fu. And it was fun! Although we died a lot by playing "Teenage Ninja Turtles" (laughs).

Era uma bela manhã e o céu estava incrível quando iniciamos o nosso Sábado! As cápsulas de cafeína nunca haviam funcionado tão bem antes, e era possível sentir a energia para vivenciar o dia, mesmo após uma série de noites de sono curtas na última semana e no dia anterior.

Nossa timidez e ansiedade estavam nos levando a não realizar nenhuma pergunta, porém, “pensamos com o coração” e nos perguntamos quando teríamos novamente uma oportunidade de conexão como esta. Nos preparamos mentalmente para a pergunta, e cada um de nós levantou a mão trêmula para realizar cada um sua pergunta.
Nessas horas, o coração parece querer saltar para fora do peito, enquanto éramos observados, cada um em um momento, pelo Si Taai Gung, Si Gung e Si Fu. Si Fu estava sorrindo. E os Si Taai Baak Gung William Moy e John Tsaang falaram por 13 minutos sobre nossa pergunta a respeito da rotina e vivência no dia a dia de Si Jo Moy Yat, de forma muito carinhosa. Foi um momento e tanto!

Because we are very shy and anxiety were leading us to ask no questions, but "we thought with our hearts" and wondered when we would again have a connection opportunity like this. We prepared ourselves mentally for the question, and each of us raised a trembling hand to carry out each our question.

Depois iniciamos o Workshop de Chi Sau com o Si Taai Baak Gung William, onde tivemos a oportunidade de praticar com uma série de pessoas diferentes, e nos foi possível enriquecer a forma de nos adaptarmos e nos conectarmos a cada um da maneira mais adequada.

Em seguida, seguimos para o hotel para nos arrumarmos. E depois durante o jantar, foi apresentado um vídeo de homenagem do Clã Mo Jo Lei Ou à Si Taai Po Vanise Imamura, produzido pelo Si Fu, e foi muito emocionante cada cuidado e detalhe. Conseguimos nos inspirar para futuras homenagens que nós resolvermos fazer algum vídeo também.
Encerramos a noite já no saguão do hotel, num especial café com Si Fu, onde falamos sobre o dia, sobre manter a energia que adquirimos durante a viagem, e não a perder ao longo da semana que viria. Podemos dizer que aproveitamos cada momento deste dia de forma única! Assim como estava escrito na cédula de Zloty que estava emoldurada em nossa prateleira onde Si Fu escreveu: “One Day, One Life”.


Then we went to the hotel to get ready. And then during dinner, was presented a video of homage of the Mo Jo Lei Ou Clan to Si Taai Po Vanise Imamura, produced by Si Fu, and it was very exciting every care and detail. We were able to inspire us for future tributes that we decided to make some video as well.
We ended the evening in the hotel lobby, at a special break for coffee with Si Fu , where we talked about the day, about keeping the energy we got during the trip, and not losing it during the coming week. We can say that we enjoy every moment of this day in a unique way! Just as it was written on the Zloty money from Poland that was framed on our shelf where Si Fu wrote "One Day, One Life."

Iniciamos o ultimo dia da viagem da Comitiva do Clã Moy Jo Lei Ou com energia, apesar do cansaço. Nos surpreendia muito o fato de ainda termos energia e estarmos conseguindo aplicá-la, e refletimos muito sobre o quanto estavamos nos dedicando a estarmos relaxados.

We started the last day of the Moy Jo Lei Ou Clan's Commitment trip with energy, despite the fatigue. We were very surprised that we still have energy and we are able to apply it, and we reflect a lot on how much we were devoting ourselves to being relaxed.

Descendo o elevador logo pela manhã já começamos a pensar na saudade que iríamos sentir de cada momento que foi vivido com Si Fu. Apesar de terem sido poucos dias a conexão foi muito intensa e como havia falado Si Tai Baak Gung William Moy, " It's power, not strenght", sentimos exatamente isso e complementamos dizendo que foi o exato tempo que precisava ser, nem mais e nem menos.
No café da manhã com Si Gung, ele pode nos dizer que perdemos muito por conta da tensão, e que poderíamos ter aproveitado muito mais. "Vocês estão em Família, não há motivos para estarem nervosos ao falarem com alguém ou em público.", disse Si Gung. Refletimos muito a respeito da jornada que temos pela frente de desenvolver o relaxamento que independe de um cenário exterior. De aproveitar o dia.
Nos direcionamos ao Aeroporto Internacional de Congonhas, para que Si Gung e Si Suk Carmem pudessem embarcar em seu vôo, e conseguimos a oportunidade de vislumbrar um pouco mais este bairro da cidade de São Paulo, que tanto nos encantou.

Coming down the elevator in the morning, we began to think about how much we would miss each moment that was lived with Si Fu. Although it was only a few days ago, the connection was very intense and, as Si Taai Baak Gung William Moy had said, "It's power, not strenght", we feel exactly that and complement it by saying that it was the exact time it needed to be, neither more nor less .
At breakfast with Si Gung, he  told us that we lost a lot because of the tension, and that we could have taken much more. "You are in Family, there is no reason to be nervous when talking to someone or in public," - Si Gung said. We reflect a lot on the journey that we have ahead to develop the relaxation that is independent of an external scenario. Enjoy the day.

We went to the Congonhas International Airport, so that Si Gung and Si Suk Carmem could board their flight, and we got the opportunity to get a glimpse of this neighborhood in the city of São Paulo that we loved so much.

A viagem de retorno ao RJ foi muito fácil, nunca passaram-se  tantas horas de forma tão rápida. Acredito que a escolha do Si Fu pelo carro ao invés do avião para nossa viagem ter ocorrido, foi com essa intenção. E a qualidade dessa conexão se deu não por conta do tempo mas por conta da estrutura: Desde  a rota tomada, da atenção e por ser possível imprevistos e daí a questão: como resolver,  de forma relaxada, com exatamente aquilo o que temos?

The trip back to Rio was very easy, never spent so many hours so quickly. I think Si Fu's choice of going by car instead of the plane for our trip has occurred with that intention. And the quality of this connection was not because of time but because of the structure: From the route taken, attention and possible unforeseen and hence the question: how to solve, relaxed way with exactly what we have?

Percebi que já há muito do Si Fu em nós e me fez perceber que ele mantém de forma leve tudo em seu coração conforme os estímulos externos ocorrem e vai recordando de cada um e de cada momento que lhe foi único.
Paramos para almoçar num incrível lugar em meio à estrada. O clima era ótimo, e tocaram algumas músicas especiais para nosso Si Fu, e também a música "Sweet Caroline".
       Confesso que em um dos momentos dessa viagem nos sentimos mais aliviados quando o Si Fu disse: " É natural nós acharmos nosso Si Fu o melhor do mundo."-  Ali nós vimos que não éramos os únicos e que a proximidade da relação permite que esse sentimento seja legítimo.  É fácil perceber a transmissão que vem com o coração quando se fala do Mestre Thiago Pereira, nosso Si Fu. Espero que este artigo inspire nossos irmãos Kung Fu a estarem presentes em oportunidades como esta, de estar em Família. Retornamos hoje com outra visão a respeito de quem somos, e inspirados a manter o zelo e sermos gentis. Há uma semente que foi plantada com tudo.

I confess that in one of the moments of this trip we felt more relieved when Si Fu said: "It is natural we think our Si Fu is the best in the world." - There we saw that we were not alone and that the proximity of the relation allows that feeling is legitimate. It is easy to see the transmission that comes with the heart when talking about Master Thiago Pereira, our Si Fu. I hope this article inspires our Kung Fu brothers to be present at opportunities like this, to be in Family. We return today with another vision as to who we are, and inspired to keep our zeal and be kind. There is a seed that has been planted with everything.
