In Brazil, people like in Mexico loves soup-operas on TV.
I like to watch sometimes and my two favorites was the mexican CARROSSEL and the brazilian QUATRO POR QUATRO.

But now, a new one has come into my list: WING CHUN
A chinese drama series for TV from 2007.

O filme se chamava: THE PRODIGAL SON.

In 1982, Sammo Hung brought us a production that won a lot of prizes about Ving Tsun called "THE PRODIGAL SON".
The movie was about the history of how Leung Jaan started to train under Leung Yi Tai tutelage.

PRODGAL SON (trailer):

But something very interesting, is that WARRIORS TWO(1978) would be a sequel of THE PRODIGAL SON(1982). 'Cause in this movie Leung Jaan is older and teaches Chan Wah Shun(Jau Chin Wah 1849-1911)another Ving Tsun Master in real life, master of Ip Man.

ASSISTA AO TRAILER:(WARRIORS TWO)

In 2005 a TV series called "FAT SAN JAAN SI FU" (Si Fu Jaan from Fat San) was released  starring Yuen Biao as Leung Jaan. But this not a sequel of PRODIGAL SON 'cause it follows a different time line.

Confira a abertura da mini-série:
(take a look on the oppening theme):

Watch a fight scene of this series with Leung Jaan(Yuen Biao) fighting:

While in Brazil we have to watch the same type of series in China we have kung fu dramas like WING CHUN.

In 2007, Sammo Hung invited his friend Yuen Biao againg for a TV sequel of Prodigal Son called "WING CHUN". Yuen Biao played again Leung Jaan again in a older version with his two sons: Leung Bik and Leung Chun.

Yuen Biao(photo) is that kind of guy that media dont care. When he was young , specialists says that he was not so goodlooking as his friend Jackie Chan and his body was very skinny two. He played roles in Jackie Chan´s movies but never reached a success by himself in West.

But for me, Biao always was more skilled than Jackie and Sammo and some another actors.
In his carreer he did some very funny movies like "WHEELS ON MEALS" in 1985 with Jackie and Sammo during their highest capacity of their physical capacities!

Take a look in a classic scene of the movie with Biao and Jackie:

NOVELA WING CHUN (YONG CHUN) 2007 REVIEW
WING CHUN 2007 TV SERIES REVIEW

I´m watching this series thanks to Si Fu Clayton from another lineage from Brazil.

PERSONAGENS:
Characters:

Ninguém menos que Ip Man.

Nicolas Tse(singer and actor) is Leung Bik, older son of Leung Jaan. In real life Leung Bik was the Jaan´s son who received the legacy of Ving Tsun and between 1909 and 1913 "completed" the Kung Fu of Ip Man in Hong Kong.

In the Tv series, Bik is a "Young Lord"(Shao Ye/Siu Ye) who feels like his dad dont like him. So he dreams to create his own style and surpass Leung Jaan.

Leung Chun is the son of Leung Jaan that in real life reached the highest level of medicine knowledge. On the Tv series, Chun is very well played and always wants to save his big brother from problems. He is ill and have to take medicines.

Gao Ming is played by Sammo Hung´s son: Sammy Hung.
Is a character that dreams of find his little sys and go to FatSan following his Si Fu (Fu Zheng Dong) from Ping Gua Style.
This is a character that takes all the scene when he appears. Sammy Hung does a great job and puts Nicolas Tse in the corner when they are in the same scene.

This crazy dude is another "Young Lord" called LONG HE. He is the son of the greatest gangster of FatSan and take all the scene too when he appears. His interpretation is so great that is impossible dont laugh of his voice and his way of walking! A great character!

Cai is a servant of Leung Jaan. He is always with his master giving some good advices, taking Leung Bik out of trouble and taking care of the Jaan family´s house and business.
Cai is also father of Tofu and Bun and he owns a restaurant gave by Leung Jaan.

O "Velho senhor" Long(Lao Ye), é o principal gangster de Hong Kong.

The "Lao ye"("Old Lord") Long, is the main gangster of Fat San. He is father of Long he and is a very rich guy. He does not mind with anyone to reach his goals and the scenes when he is negociating with some another thief, opium dealer or trying to convince someone to do something for him is the best ones!

Falta a Karol concordar!rs

Bun is daughter of Cai and the romantic pair of Leung Bik. Some fans dont like her, cause her scenes is kind of silly. But I like it!

Fu Zheng Don: I forgot to take a picture of him but it is one of the greatest characters of the series. He is a Si Fu addcted to money and alcohol who beats his pupil Gao Ming. He is the opposite of Leung Jaan, and the actor convince you that this character really exists.

..rs

Leung Jaan(Yuen Biao): In the left of the picture, Leung Jaan is very very very well played by Yuen Biao. Yuen Biao walks, talks, behaves and act like a real Si FU. Sometimes you just forget that is just a show.
He pass the idea that Kung Fu is more than fight scenes, and it is his greastest perfomance as Leung Jaan.

Wong Wah Bo(Sammo Hung): The onipresent Sammo Hung is in ther right in this picture. He plays another Ving tsun real life master: Wong Wah Bo. Also from The Prodigal Son(1982). He is Jaan's Si Fu, and its very funny to watch Leung Jaan being treated like a Si Fu, and when he sees his own Si Fu he behave himself like a teenager: "SI FUUU!"  lol

Some fans complained that the series has just a few fight scenes. But it is not about fights, I think that its just about "KUNG FU", the daily "KUNG FU".
If you stopo and think, you dont fight everyday in your life physically, but you have to face bad situations all the time.
So , the show is about chinese culture, kung fu, relashionships ... well is about the classic chinese way!
You can not lost it!

ESPECIAL SOBRE O JING TONG(正堂) [SPECIAL POST ABOUT THE JING TONG(正堂)]

In the movie "Fearless, 2007" which tells the story of Huo Yuan Jia, in this scene we see him returning to his home after spending a long time away. Note that the wall is covered in moss and in a bad state.

When Huo Yuan Jia(Jet Li) enters the yard, the situation is worst. The house is like some place abandoned.

The loyal servant of Jia clean a chair , but he pass along without look and go right to a room in the background.

Unlike the previous rooms, notice that this room is very clean, with candles lit as if the house was still in full operation ...

This room is the "Jing Tong" of the house of Huo Yuan Jia.

Jing Tong (正 堂) - means "Main Hall".
This room was first visited by Huo Yuan Jia on his return, is the main room of his house, where they were venerated ancestors. And so it was also the only one who remained careful ...Max Weber definiu a China como um "Estado Familístico".

Max Weber defined China as a "Family State". Already the French anthropologist Maurice Freedman in 1971 wrote that :"... the family lineages were the main social institutions in China. Each community of families who claim descent from a founding ancestor, joining in periodic rituals in tombs and mausoleums . With the support of genealogies, members of a lineage could share common interests ... "

ESPECIAL : JING TONG (正堂 ) PARTE 1
SPECIAL: JING TONG(正堂 ) PART 1

Many people can not understand why we value so much the ancestors and the Kung Fu Family. But this is something fundamental in Chinese Culture.

An interesting example is the way of dating something ...

In China, when we put the date written

logic is different:

Note that in this case, the most important is the number of months (years) and in the tenth month there that a day in particular: 26. That is, the 26th is actually only one day in all of which make up the tenth month. And more: Along the other 364 days that make up the year.

So the Chinese logic starts  from the whole  to the part.

and October 26th is my birthday .. hehe Send me gifts! lol ^ _ ^ '

Jing Tong  is a room reserved for its alone, or in other cases a building its own. But when you do not have the necessary space, Jing Tong can be represented by a wall, as in our Mo Gun (photo).

It's good manners that the first thing to do when you arrived at a Mo Gun or a residence that has a Jing Tong, is to make obeisance to the ancestors of the place.

Therefore, it is understood that the Jing Tong acts as a sort of memorial, where he exposes what is most important in a Family: His legacy.

For some people more attached to their religion, often Jing Tong may sound strange at first sight. After all, is a place with a certain amount of signs. But like everything in Chinese culture, the interpretation of Jing Tong is quite free. If you think you're doing obeisance saluting a spirit, and if you also think when you have finished making the perfect bow will feel a pat on the shoulder of the spirit of Wong Wah Bo and hear, "Good boy!" You may be right. But if you also think that this gesture is just a way of paying respect to ancestors of the place you're also right.
(foto do dia do meu Baai Si: Si Fu lê a mensagem escrita por mim no HUNG BAO que havia lhe entregado)
(a picture of the day of my Baai Si when I gave a Hung Bao to Si Fu Julio Camacho 11G VT)

Some very common action, is to give a Hung Bao(red envelope) to Jing Tong of the place.

(in this photo I was showing to the young fellas how to use the chopsticks)

Something very common to see in some schools of martial arts are weapons  hung on the walls. This practice is took today almost as an ornamental character and weapons lost their symbol.

An example that Si Fu Julio Camacho 11G VT always says is about what we use to feed ourselves.

Westerners find extremely strange and often humorous the use of "chopsticks hard to get food" to feed used in China. But look, it's very strange when you "use two weapons" to eat.
The fork pierces the knife to cut food. It's funny but the fact remains ...
(Si Taai Gung Moy Yat com o Do)
(si taai gung Moy Yat using the Do)

In Ving Tsun, cutting eapons are the knives. And it is very common sense, feel anxiety when we started the system, to finally use them. However, as a reserved content in our clan, the knives are presented only to students with a long path traveled.

That's because they are knives. And even today when we use those as a tool for our kung fu( 'cause nobody goes out on the street with holding a pair of Do to defend themselves). It is important not to forget that they are knives.

So, imagine the room of your house, that picture with you and your wife in marriage hanging in the main wall, the one which whoever enters will look for sure. Then you decided to hung just below the picture, a Beretta 9mm ...

Well if you was in a Tarantino´s movie or in some movie of "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" that act would be accept...

But in this case, would be better put a photo of the Virgin of Guadalupe on the wall. And if you were an enemy of Danny Trejo would be awsome too! lol

Thats why Si Fu Julio Camacho once said that in our Clan, we will not hang weapons on the wall. Principally on the Jing Tong. 'Cause beteween some reasons, what we have as more important  to show, is our legacy, Moy Yat Clan's Legacy.
Beyond that, is important to say that in some period of China History, when a Mo Gun hung something on the wall, tha could means "war".

Si Fu Julio Camacho took this picture at Ip man´s Tong in FatSan in 2006. The Museum says that those are the original Do of Ip man, and as I once said, the blade of the knives are pointing to the ground. It could means "ornamental thing". 'Cause if you stop and think, if you really want to use this knives , you would had to hang more easy for you to hold when you want, with the blades pointing to the roof.

well, I wait for you for the part 2!

TRAILER FINAL DE "THE LEGEND IS BORN: IP MAN" (final trailer: "The Legend is Born: Ip Man"

NOVO IP MAN ESTRÉIA EM JUNHO!!!

THE NEW IP MAN WILL BE RELEASED IN JUNE!!!

It seems that Sammo Hung will earn more money with the Ving Tsun Grand MAster Ip Man in a new movie called "THE LEGEND IS BORN: IP MAN" that will be in theaters in June,24.
Sammo will play the role of Ip Man´s master Chan Wah Shun(HERE) , Yuen Biao who already played Leung Jaan twice, now will be the Daai Si Hing of the KF Family of Chan Wah Shun. And also we will have Ip Man´s older son in real life, Ip Chun, as Leung Bik (one of the sons of Leung Jaan who "completed" Ip Man´s Kung Fu).

Ip Man 2... The Legend is Born....  if you like Ving Tsun you can not complain!

BOM FIQUEM COM O TRAILER COM LEGENDAS!!!

A HISTÓRIA DO SI TAAI GUNG DO MESTRE DE IP MAN: LEUNG LAAN GWAI (IP MAN MASTER´S SI TAAI GUNG:LEUNG LAAN GWAI)

You have already read a little history about Ip Man and his Si Fu Chan Wah Shun (HERE), but now you will know a little bit  about what an ancestor not so much mentioned  most of the time. Because much is said about Leung Jaan and Ip Man  in films and novels, and about Leung Yi Tai and Chan Wah Shun  for being Si Fu of these two, but Do you know Leung Laan Gwai "The Revolutionary"?

A HISTÓRIA DO SI TAAI GUNG DO MESTRE DE IP MAN:
LEUNG LAAN GWAI!

THE STORY OF THE IP MAN´S MASTER´S SI TAAI GUNG:
LEUNG LAAN GWAI

Nurhaci (pictured) began as a minor chief in the eastern border of the agricultural basin of southern Machuria, and it was a strategic location, 'cause he could learn about Chinese culture without being under it. The people that he led was very heterogeneous ,and as Genghis Khan among the Mongols, Nurhaci referred the neighboring tribes to his personal rule and imposed his dynasty (Jin), his son and successor, made alliances with the Mongol tribes and gave his people the name of "MANCHU" and proclaimed the Qing ("Pure" )Dinasty.

The Manchus tried to invade northern China and failed to defeat the Chinese (Han). But at that time, the military Ming from North, were unhappy with the problems with the scholars in Beijing (capital of the Ming Empire). Ming generals, knew and admired the shock power of the Manchus, however, underestimating this people thought they could use them in their own favor. So kindly welcomed the Manchus who had fought. But once inside the walls, the Manchus have endeavored to conquer China ....

After conquering China, the Manchus started to make the population(Han) accepted and respected then. For this, tried to establish new culture or encouraging existing ones according to their interests. One of the most famous was the order called: "Tai Faat Lin"

(Tai Faat Lin)

剃(tai) - raspar (to shave)
髮(faat) - cabelo (hair)
令(Lin) - ordem (order)

"ordem para raspar cabelo"
"order to shave the head"

So, in movies about old times, like Crouching Tiger,Hidden Dragon(2000) , you can see these hair-cuts

The haircut (men only) was to shave the front of the hair and leave a long pone-tail. An attempt by the Manchus did not leave the Han (Chinese) to differentiate them.

Many people died and been tortured by the law be enforced, and it had a motto:
"Lau Faat Bat Lau Tau"

留(lau) - mantenha (keep)
 髮(faat) - cabelo (hair)
 不(bat) - não (dont)
留(lau) - mantenha (keep)

"keep your hair dont keep your head"

And was in this hard period for the Ming, that came out Leung Laan Gwai...

He was known as a literature and martial arts student, and adopted the name of  "Middle Gate"(閎中 Wang Jung) [But "Wang"閎 also means : "Big" , "gate" or a surname]

Leung Laan gwai despite being born into a rich family, became involved with a revolutionary organization that wished to restore the Ming Dynasty. And for ease of movement through the Cantonese Opera boats known as Red Boats, he became involved with actors of the Opera.
Eles sempre viajavam juntos.)
(the diagram above illustrates the compartments of the Hung Suen (Red Boats). But note that these are two boats: "Earth" and "Heaven," respectively. They always traveled together.)

In this time Leung Laan Gwai (4G VT) knew his future Si Fu: Wong Wah Bo(3G VT) , who played the role of  "Mo Sang"(武先)["warlord"] in Cantonese Opera.

In Prodigal Son(1982) Sammo Hung(left) played Wong Wah Bo.

Leung Laan gwai ran through many provinces (9 in total) and was in this period that he met a young man of humble origins: Leung Yi Tai and chose him to pass on the legacy of Ving Tsun that he had received from Wong Wah Bo.

Lang Chin Ying plays Leung Yi Tai(5G VT) in a movie. Leung Yi Tai(5G VT) played a woman role in the Cantonese Opera.

Finally, the politics search of Leung Laan Gwai was not enough to satisfy him, then he decided to become a monk, and became known as  Toei Am (退 庵) something like: "Back to the Buddhist temple"

But something very interesting also is that sometimes we just imagine the guys in red Junk day and night. You think everyone practicing Opera and working and a while that a Si Fu there drinking some tea while the student is Siu Nim Tau .. lol

The Red Boats (Hung Suen) had a headquarters, a place for the fellas meet. Actually it was more likely that the meetings between Leung Laan gwai and his Si Fu make themselves inside. And so with his disciple Leung Yi Tai But this is a personal opinion ...

This place was called King Fa Wui Gun (
瓊花會館) and was eventually fired when it was discovered his propensity to harbor revolutionary, but you'll know it when we talk about Leung Yi Taai and Luk Din Bun Gwan ....
