"Mui Fa Jong" all over again, but using the Programs.

Ao compreender a lógica do Programa Ving Tsun Experience, meu interesse por estudá-lo mais profundamente aumentou. Esse programa coloca uma "lente de aumento" em certos aspectos de uma lista que, por razões de transmissão,no Sistema Tradicional não recebem a mesma ênfase. Um ponto crucial nesse novo momento foi o contato com o texto do Grão Mestre Leo Imamura intitulado "A arte das listas". Esse texto mudou completamente minha percepção sobre a arte que pratico desde os 15 anos de idade. Por isso, frases como "Mas o Sistema Ving Tsun nunca precisou do Ving Tsun Experience" ou "Toda hora o Ving Tsun Experience muda" tornaram-se símbolos de falta de entendimento deste programa. Não digo isso porque entendo tudo perfeitamente, mas sim porque tenho uma profunda admiração por algumas pessoas, e uma delas, nos últimos anos, tem sido o Mestre Gabriel. A admiração que tenho pela sua compreensão dos programas propostos pelo Grão Mestre Leo Imamura também me fez valorizar o Programa Ving Tsun Experience. Ver alguém tão sério da minha geração valorizando tanto esse programa me fez perceber que poderia perder muito se não buscasse me aprofundar também. Além disso, tenho tido a feliz oportunidade de estudar esse aprofundamento com Si Gung. Talvez tenha sido por isso que, com alegria no coração, me encontrei com meu discípulo Keith Markus e com meu irmão Kung Fu Roberto Viana para revisarmos o Domínio Mui Fa Jong, começando pelo Ving Tsun Experience.

Upon understanding the logic of the Ving Tsun Experience Programme, my interest in studying it more deeply has grown. This programme places a "magnifying glass" on certain aspects of a list that, due to traditional transmission reasons within the System, do not receive the same emphasis. A pivotal moment in this new phase was encountering the text by Grandmaster Leo Imamura titled "The Art of Lists". This text completely changed my perception of the art I have been practicing since the age of 15. As a result, phrases like "But the Ving Tsun System never needed the Ving Tsun Experience" or "The Ving Tsun Experience changes all the time" have become symbols of misunderstanding of this programme. I say this not because I understand everything perfectly, but because I deeply admire certain individuals, and one of them in recent years has been Master Gabriel (Master Nataniel Rosa´s disciple). My admiration for his understanding of the programmes proposed by Grandmaster Leo Imamura has also made me appreciate the Ving Tsun Experience Programme. Seeing someone so serious from my generation value this programme so much made me realise that I could miss out on a lot if I didn't also seek to deepen my understanding. Furthermore, I have had the fortunate opportunity to study this deepening with Si Gung. Perhaps that's why, with joy in my heart, I met with my disciple Keith Markus and my Kung Fu brother Roberto Viana to review the Domain Mui Fa Jong, starting with the Ving Tsun Experience.

Ter o título de Mestre às vezes pode ser bastante chato. Por falta de entendimento, as pessoas podem assumir que você é infalível ou sempre tem uma ideia melhor. Por causa disso, é difícil ser convidado para praticar ou, quando você propõe algo, as pessoas tendem a simplesmente concordar. Naquele domingo, cheguei com uma proposta que foi bem recebida por ambos, mas fiquei esperançoso de que, após o seminário do próximo final de semana e mais encontros como aquele, talvez eu pudesse acolher uma proposta feita por um dos dois.

Sugeri começarmos a trabalhar na lista do "Siu Nim Do Jong Faat", que faz parte do Nível 4 do Programa Ving Tsun Experience. Tive uma experiência marcante ao assistir o Grão Mestre Leo Imamura revisando esse componente durante uma aula do Sr. Edson no Instituto Moy Yat. Naquele momento, percebi que compreender a descrição da lista do Nível 4 me ajudaria a entender melhor o "Da Jong", como Mestre Quintela diz, "um spoiler".

Roberto Viana gentilmente cedeu sua residência, com o apoio de sua esposa, Sra. Flavia Machado. Usamos seu novo Muk Yan Jong e tivemos total liberdade. Nos intervalos, comíamos amendoins e bebíamos coca-cola. Durante uma dessas pausas, Roberto comentou: "Agora, imagina como seria para alguém que já fez o Ving Tsun Experience neste nível quando chegar no Mui Fa Jong?"- Fiquei contente com o comentário, ao qual meu discípulo também concordou. Enquanto mordiscava um amendoim, pensei que, mesmo com todas as minhas limitações, estava conseguindo proporcionar uma experiência valiosa. Quando isso acontece, a conclusão geralmente é a mesma sobre o poder do Ving Tsun Experience.

Por isso, mesmo tendo tido acesso a este Domínio "Mui Fa Jong" entre os 17 e 18 anos de idade, considerar um "reset" e começar a estudar desde o início, inclusive utilizando o Programa Ving Tsun Experience, chega a ser incompreensível para alguns irmãos Kung Fu que me acompanham de longe pelas redes sociais. Afinal, as pessoas me chamam de "Mestre". No entanto, o Grão Mestre Leo Imamura uma vez teria dito algo que me tocou profundamente: "'Mestre' é como você é chamado por quem é de fora. O que importa é como você é visto dentro. Dentro da família...Do clã...Entende?" Naquela manhã, de certa forma, eu estava um pouco emocionado. Aos 40 anos de idade, descobri que havia me aprofundado muito pouco. Executar a lista com movimentos decorados, seja com energia, velocidade ou precisão, não significa necessariamente que você está praticando na Dimensão Kung Fu.

Having the title of Master can sometimes be quite boring. Due to lack of understanding, people may assume you are infallible or always have a better idea. As a result, it's difficult to be invited to practice, or when you propose something, people tend to simply agree. On that Sunday, I came with a proposal that was well received by both, but I was hopeful that, after next weekend's seminar and more meetings like that, perhaps I could entertain a proposal from one of them.

I suggested we start working on the "Siu Nim Do Jong Faat" list, which is part of Level 4 of the Ving Tsun Experience Programme. I had a remarkable experience assisting Grandmaster Leo Imamura review this component during a class with Mr. Edson at the Moy Yat Institute. At that moment, I realised that understanding the description of the Level 4 list would help me grasp "Da Jong" better, as Master Quintela calls it, "a spoiler".

Roberto Viana kindly offered his residence, supported by his wife, Mrs. Flavia Machado. We used his new Muk Yan Jong and had complete freedom. During breaks, we ate peanuts and drank Coca-Cola. During one of these pauses, Roberto remarked, "Now, imagine how it would be for someone who has already done the Ving Tsun Experience at this level when they reach Mui Fa Jong?" - I was pleased with his comment, which my disciple also agreed with. As I nibbled on a peanut, I thought that, despite all my limitations, I was managing to provide a valuable experience. When this happens, the conclusion is usually the same regarding the power of the Ving Tsun Experience.

Therefore, even though I had access to this "Mui Fa Jong" Domain between the ages of 17 and 18, considering a "reset" and starting to study from scratch, including using the Ving Tsun Experience Programme, seems incomprehensible to some Kung Fu brothers who follow me from afar on social media. After all, people call me "Master". However, Grandmaster Leo Imamura once said something that deeply resonated with me: "'Master' is what you're called by those on the outside. What matters is how you're seen within. Within the family... The clan... Do you understand?" That morning, in a way, I was a bit emotional. At 40 years old, I realised I had delved very little into it. Performing the list with memorised movements, whether with energy, speed, or precision, doesn't necessarily mean you're practicing in the Kung Fu Dimension.

Essa busca constante vem do desejo de ser um bom Si Fu. Ser capaz de fazer uma entrega com excelência sem recorrer a conhecimentos externos ao Sistema Ving Tsun tornou-se muito importante para mim. Tornar-me capaz de receber o legado da Linhagem, de modo que eu possa transmiti-lo adiante através de mim, tornando-me dispensável no processo, é uma espécie de sonho. No entanto, um ponto que marcou muito aquele encontro no último domingo foi quando revisamos cada um dos componentes associados do Domínio Mui Fa Jong e duas partes do Componente Principal, seguindo a lógica proposta pelo Si Gung em termos de disposição estratégica desses conteúdos conforme aparecem na última versão do programa. Roberto e Markus pareceram bastante surpresos, pois nessa configuração, o "Kuen Gei" tem um potencial maior de ser desenvolvido sem necessariamente qualquer "ação" do Si Fu ou do praticante.

Ao final daquela manhã quente, Roberto serviu uma cerveja bem gelada. Markus preferiu ficar com um copo de água. Curiosamente, todos estavam muito animados e conversavam sobre o que acabara de acontecer. Mesmo sabendo que estamos longe de dominar completamente o que aprendemos, eu entendia o que estávamos sentindo. Era a sensação de ter tido contato com algo de valor inestimável, mesmo que ainda não soubéssemos como usar seu potencial máximo.

This constant pursuit comes from the desire to be a good Si Fu. Being able to deliver with excellence without relying on external knowledge to the Ving Tsun System has become very important to me. Becoming capable of receiving the lineage's legacy so that I can pass it on through myself, thus making myself dispensable in the process, is a kind of dream. However, a point that greatly marked that meeting last Sunday was when we reviewed each of the associated components of the Mui Fa Jong Domain and two parts of the Main Component, following the logic proposed by Si Gung in terms of the strategic arrangement of these contents as they appear in the latest version of the programme. Roberto and Markus seemed quite surprised because in this configuration, the "Kuen Gei" has a greater potential to be developed without necessarily any action from the Si Fu or the practitioner.

At the end of that hot morning, Roberto served a very cold beer. Markus preferred to have a glass of water. Interestingly, everyone was very excited and talked about what had just happened. Even though we know that we are far from mastering what we have learned, I understood what we were feeling. It was the feeling of having had contact with something of inestimable value, even if we still didn't know how to use its full potential.

An unprecedented study of 'Baat Jaam Do' by GM Leo Imamura

 

Em 1991 e 1992, eu gostava quando chegava a época de algum aniversário da minha Tia Geny ou de algum dos seus filhos. Isso acontecia porque só fomos ter nosso primeiro VCR em casa em 1993, e até aquele momento, eram minhas únicas oportunidades de assistir às continuações dos filmes que eu gostava, mas que a TV GLOBO não exibia. Por um acaso do destino, um dos filhos dela estava estudando aviação, e por conta disso, em todas as festas acabava assistindo "TOP GUN - Ases Indomáveis" [1986]. Eu gostava tanto de "TOP GUN - Ases Indomáveis" que queria vestir minha jaquetinha do filme com lapela de lã o tempo todo. No filme, o personagem do Tom Cruise tem o apelido de "Maverick". Anos mais tarde, fui descobrir que a palavra "maverick" é uma palavra inglesa que se refere a uma pessoa que é independente e tende a fazer as coisas de forma diferente, muitas vezes desafiando as convenções estabelecidas...

In 1991 and 1992, I enjoyed it when the time of my Aunt Geny's or one of her children's birthdays arrived. This happened because we only got our first VCR at home in 1993, and up to that moment, these were my only opportunities to watch sequels of the films I liked but that brailian TV Channel GLOBO TV didn't broadcast. By a twist of fate, one of her sons was studying aviation, and because of that, at all the parties, I ended up watching 'TOP GUN ' [1986]. I liked 'TOP GUN ' so much that I wanted to wear my wool lapel jacket from the film all the time. In the movie, Tom Cruise's character is nicknamed 'Maverick.' Years later, I discovered that the word 'maverick' is an English word that refers to a person who is independent and tends to do things differently, often challenging established conventions...

Reuni-me com outros Mestres e mestrandos da Moy Yat Ving Tsun no Instituto Moy Yat em São Paulo para um estudo muito peculiar, envolvendo o "Baat Jaam Do". Nessas ocasiões, você pode me ver segurando um caderno de anotações. Você pode pensar que consegue lembrar de tudo, mas as elucidações são muito elaboradas, e uma fala ou frase mal compreendida pode mudar todo o sentido do que foi dito. O grupo era muito heterogêneo; olhando para os lados, pude ver pessoas em diferentes estágios, com diferentes objetivos, mas com um mesmo espírito: o de se disponibilizar para a experiência sem receio de mostrar sua ignorância ou má compreensão sobre algum tema. Pude ver na prática o que o Si Gung tem falado sobre "acolher a diversidade" e o quão rica ela pode ser para a Família Kung Fu. Pois mesmo em momentos tão diferentes, cada pessoa ali presente estava completamente comprometida com o todo. Isso, por si só, já era emocionante de se ver.

I gathered with other Masters and postgraduates of Moy Yat Ving Tsun at the Moy Yat Institute in São Paulo for a very unique study involving the 'Baat Jaam Do.' On these occasions, you may find me holding a notebook. You might think you can remember everything, but the elucidations are very elaborate, and a misunderstood word or phrase can change the entire meaning of what was said. The group was highly diverse; looking around, I could see people at different stages, with different pursuits, but with a common spirit: that of making oneself available for the experience without fear of revealing their ignorance or poor understanding of any topic. I witnessed in practice what Si Gung has spoken of regarding 'embracing diversity' and how rich it can be for the Kung Fu Family. Even in such different moments, each person present was entirely committed to the whole. This, in itself, was truly moving to witness.

Para mim, o grande destaque desse estudo foi o Mestre Felipe Soares [foto com óculos]. Conheci-o quando era bem jovem e em diferentes fases da sua vida. Sua coerência nos apontamentos, juntamente com sua constante boa vontade e a falta de desejo de estar certo ou de ter a última palavra, faz com que qualquer pessoa que o ouça não se sinta inadequada, e todos o ouvem com atenção. Pude testemunhar isso o tempo todo e com muitas pessoas diferentes. O Si Suk acabou por assumir uma liderança durante esse encontro, por meio de uma aclamação silenciosa.

Do meu lado, os intervalos para o almoço eram os momentos mais difíceis para mim. Geralmente eu havia me confundido em alguma demonstração na parte da manhã, e o desafio de lidar com o erro parecia querer roubar minha alma e minar a minha confiança. Às vezes, eu me pegava olhando para o nada em silêncio. Nessas horas, Si Suk Felipe costumava perguntar: "Está tudo bem?".

Após o almoço, eu caminhava até o apartamento do meu discípulo com o meu walkman ou conversava com o meu irmão Kung Fu, Roberto Viana. Quando voltava, já estava com o espírito mais leve para fazer melhor.

For me, the standout of this study was Master Felipe Soares [photo with glasses]. I met him when he was quite young and at different stages of his life. His consistency in his observations, along with a constant willingness and a lack of desire to be right or have the last word, makes anyone listening to him not feel inadequate, and all listen to him attentively. I witnessed this all the time and with many different people. Si Suk ended up assuming a leadership role during this gathering through silent acclamation.

On my part, lunch breaks were the most challenging moments for me. Typically, I had messed up a demonstration in the morning, and the challenge of dealing with the mistake seemed to want to undermine my confidence. Sometimes, I found myself gazing into nothingness in silence. In those moments, Si Suk Felipe would ask, 'Is everything alright?'

After lunch, I would walk to my disciple's apartment listening some music in my walkman or have a conversation with my Kung Fu brother, Roberto Viana. When I returned, I was in a lighter spirit to do better.

Si Gung nos levou a vislumbrar a transmissão do "Baat Jaam Do" de uma maneira que me tocou muito. De fato, era essa a razão de eu estar ali. Durante toda a minha jornada, fui muito bem orientado, seja pelo meu Si Fu ou pela Si Suk Ursula, em diferentes etapas. Por conta disso, estou sempre refletindo sobre o quanto ainda seria possível melhorar no que se refere à transmissão. Quando alguém reserva um tempo para estar comigo, presta atenção no que digo, senta comigo para jantar ou tomar café, em horários em que alguém já estaria com a família ao final do expediente, isso precisa ser respeitado.

Antes, eu pensava muito em entregar 100%, mas depois desse estudo, percebi que não é uma questão do que queremos, mas do quanto a pessoa pode receber. Apesar disso, um Si Fu também precisa ter algo para entregar. Então, era possível ver o Si Gung falando conosco a cada momento, como adultos responsáveis por um trabalho muito sério em relação à sua descendência. Apesar de ter conhecido muitos dos presentes quando ainda eram adolescentes, como o Si Suk Paulo Camiz, ele nos deixava claro a responsabilidade que o estudo envolvia. - "Nesse Domínio é onde a linguagem silenciosa encontra o seu ápice. É necessário separar o autor do efeito." - Teria dito Si Gung Leo Imamura.

Si Gung led us to envision the transmission of 'Baat Jaam Do' in a way that deeply touched me. In fact, this was the reason I was there. Throughout my journey, I was very well guided, whether by my Si Fu or Si Suk Ursula, at different stages. Because of this, I am always reflecting on how much room for improvement still exists regarding transmission. When someone sets aside time to be with you, pays attention to you, sits with you for dinner or coffee at times when someone would typically be with their family after work, that needs to be respected.

Before, I used to think a lot about giving 100%, but after this study, I realized it's not a matter of what you want, but how much the person can receive. Nonetheless, a Si Fu also needs to have something to deliver. So, you could see Si Gung speaking with us at every moment, as adults responsible for a very serious task towards their descendants. Despite having known many of those present when they were still teenagers, like Si Suk Paulo Camiz, he made it clear to us the responsibility that the study involved. - 'In this Domain is where silent language reaches its peak. It is necessary to separate the author from the effect.' - Si Gung Leo Imamura would have said.

Os desafios de ser um discípulo e também um Si Fu parecem ser muitos. Você está ali tentando equilibrar as duas funções o tempo todo. No entanto, como meu Si Fu teria dito recentemente no meu aniversário, é importante cuidar dos descendentes que nos escolheram como "Si Fu" para a sua jornada no Kung Fu, e é por isso que venho me propondo a esse desafio. Se eu não fosse um pouco "Maverick," eu não seria capaz.

Sentado ali durante o jantar no final do último dia do evento, estava bastante emocionado. Laços foram estreitados e criados não com base no que queríamos para nós, mas no que entendíamos ser importante para cuidar com responsabilidade da próxima geração.

A pizza pareceu melhor do que uma simples pizza costuma ser, e os abraços, em vez de parecerem de despedida, pude senti-los como um silencioso "até breve."

The challenges of being a disciple and also a Si Fu seem to be many. You are there trying to balance the two roles all the time. However, as my Si Fu recently mentioned on my birthday, it is important to take care of the descendants who have chosen us as their 'Si Fu' for their Kung Fu journey, and that's why I have undertaken this challenge. If you're not a bit of a 'Maverick,' you can't make it.

Sitting there during the dinner at the end of the last day of the event, I was quite moved. Bonds were strengthened and created not based on what we wanted for ourselves, but on what we understood to be important for responsibly caring for the next generation.

The pizza seemed better than a regular pizza, and the hugs, instead of feeling like farewells, I could sense them as a silent 'see you soon'.
