THAILAND DISPAX '24 : MOY YAT LINEAGE REPRESENTED

When Master Fábio Gomes took the floor during the presentation, it seemed as though he had mapped out the entire stage, with firm steps and gestures carefully thought out with every word he spoke. The warm-hearted person with an easy laugh gave way to a true professional who knows exactly what he is talking about, having lived through it all. Master Fábio did something that Grand Master Leo Imamura always recommends: we should dedicate our study time to the object of our vocation. Master Fábio lives, breathes, and is deeply interested in everything he works with. And not only I, but the entire audience present that morning at the Hotel Carlton during DISPAX 2024, could also feel this. I made an effort to translate Master Fábio’s words as precisely as possible, and in my mind, I always thought of Master Gabriel Mendes and his impeccable translations of the most difficult terms I have witnessed over the last two years. Master Fábio had visualised and become emotional about that moment long before it occurred. He had earned the right to be there. But I don’t believe he was alone, as at several moments it was possible to feel the presence of Grandmaster Leo Imamura in every step, gesture, or word that Master Fábio took, made, or said. And, despite not making a show of his relationship with his esteemed Si Fu and Si Mo, Master Fábio shares every achievement with them and resolves all doubts, from the most basic to the most complex. This is something I witness constantly. And, if we consider how dedicated Master Fábio is as a disciple, and his Master’s dedication to Patriarch Moy Yat and so on, perhaps our entire lineage was there in that moment with him. So, perhaps this is what it means to use tradition as innovation. I saw it because I was there, every round of applause and look of amazement for Master Fábio at the end of his words. Well-deserved applause for someone whose hallmark is resilience.

(Moment when we arrived in Thailand after the imigration)

I personally took charge of all the details to ensure we could travel with peace of mind regarding our documentation, but what a surprise it was when, at the airline counter that would take us to Rome after a 24-hour layover in the city we had been in until that moment, the attendant said that we needed a document from the Thai government confirming that we had received the vaccine. I tried to explain to her that this document was issued at Bangkok airport, but the issue was that, due to our layover in Italy and the specific rules there, we needed to present it beforehand, which had not been communicated anywhere. She suggested that we complete the online registration right there. I did mine and helped Master Fábio with his. At the end of the registration, the surprise: "The Thai Health Pass will be ready in 2 to 3 hours. In case of an emergency, contact the Thai Embassy." I showed the message to the airline staff and said something like, "So, it won't be ready in time for boarding." To which she replied, "Let’s hope it arrives in 2 hours, then you’ll be able to board."
You know, I usually think of three solutions to the same problem, but that answer left me so taken aback that I was lost for words. Master Fábio then invited me to have something to eat at the restaurant across the way. However, sitting with him there, I couldn’t concentrate and decided to go back to the counter... While walking there, I called the dear Nan, who was in Bangkok, and asked her to contact the Embassy to request urgency. In the meantime, I applied pressure on the counter staff, and ten minutes later, a message came from inside: the supervisor said to let them go, and they would resolve everything in Rome. We issued our tickets and, sitting in front of Master Fábio, I noticed he was eating calmly. "Does he know that we almost didn’t make the flight?" I thought. "Si Suk, we almost missed the flight..." I commented. "Nonsense! We’d have made it!" he said, followed by a laugh. A few minutes later, the Thai Health Pass arrived on my phone. Master Fábio raised his eyebrows as if to say, "Told you so?" That was a lesson for me about not use force to solve problems.

Thanks to Nan (PHOTO), we were able to experience Bangkok in a very special way. We visited temples, restaurants, and places that were simply magical. Chinatown, in particular, left a deep impression on us, with all its neon signs, the incredible number of people on the streets, the Tuk-Tuks with their endless blinking lights, and all the motorcycles speeding by. We decided to go there by subway after a welcome dinner hosted by the event organizers, where we were warmly received by both the organizer and the moderator of our panel.
Juliana estava presente no evento representando a Holanda, e do Brasil éramos apenas eu e Mestre Fábio. Enquanto escrevia e sentia o sono tentar me tomar de assalto, pensava: "O Si Gung terminaria." No dia seguinte, toda a apresentação havia sido reescrita.

The two days of DISPAX 2024 featured elite professionals from different parts of the world, representing not only prestigious airlines but also various sectors of security. With our presentation prepared, the three of us (myself, Master Fábio, and Nan) sat attentively to watch the presentations. We had the opportunity to meet some very dear people, such as Captain Airada, Doug, and Juliana. Juliana was present at the event representing the Netherlands, and from Brazil, it was just Master Fábio and I. We had dedicated months, under the guidance of Grandmaster Leo, to preparing a presentation that would honour the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Safeguard Group. However, after watching the powerful presentations on the first day, we decided to completely redo our presentation and adapt it better to the nature of the event overnight. This act might have seemed crazy, but it was inspired by the example of Grandmaster Leo Imamura, who often stays up all night in search of the detail that promotes excellence, no matter what material he is working with. As I wrote and felt sleep trying to overtake me, I thought: "Si Gung would finish it."-  The next day, the entire presentation had been rewritten. And, as I made my way to the stage, I knew we had done everything in our power. "The Ving Tsun guys never give up" – I remembered this phrase from Grandmaster William Moy and felt my heart calm. Coming from Mesquita and Rocha Miranda, in the far corners of Rio de Janeiro, we were moved, but seemingly possessed by spirits, as we no longer seemed like the same people. After all, we were there representing much more than ourselves.

During almost fifteen days with Master Fábio, I witnessed how his kindness allows him to connect with people from all over the world. The affection with which he treats everyone around him is truly remarkable. Master Fábio carried all the people dear to him with him, whether in the moments when he sent a video or a photo of something interesting to his family and friends, laughing even before receiving a reaction from them, or when he said he would rather stay at the hotel than explore the city, because he wasn’t with his wife Adriana. Even with all these gentle qualities, I never saw him lose focus on the main objective that had brought us there. It was evident in the way his eyes lit up. Even the simplest recordings he made in the most ordinary places in Bangkok, like a shopping mall, were thought out strategically to promote his work on one of his social media platforms. Master Fábio has proven himself to be, today, a world-class professional in the field to which he has dedicated himself through the Ving Tsun System. All these unique qualities of this remarkable human being and inspiring professional allowed me to learn a great deal with every interaction we had and made me reflect on how I can improve as both a professional and a human being from his example. On a deeper level, I found myself questioning the kind of work that Grandmaster Leo Imamura has promoted and continues to promote with Master Fábio, which has allowed him to reach such a level of proficiency. Since I am a "Si Fu," I made a commitment in my heart during the trip that one day I will create the conditions to ensure my students can have access to work as good as the work Grandmaster Leo has promoted with Master Fábio: from the boy in Mesquita neighbourhoo to the world-class professional.

A new "Baai Si"(拜師) in Moy Fat Lei Family with Grandmaster Leo.

"...What could I see in a person who, upon occupying a position of influence, is not tolerant, who, when observing ritual civility (Li/Lai 禮), is not respectful, and who, when supervising funeral rites, does not grieve?" (Trans. Ames and Rosemont Jr., 1998a: 88)

We were on the penultimate day of the "Official Visit" of 2024 with Grand Master Leo Imamura. We gathered in a modest auditorium in a shopping mall in the North Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. I signed each of the documents requiring my signature and stamp with great care. They had been hastily prepared by the dear Marlon and delivered by Master Herbert. Three documents were to be handed to each disciple that morning, each with a distinct nature. Nothing present at that ceremony would have any protagonism of mine, not even these documents. I was strongly determined to set an example for the members of my family that we are part of an intricate structure that is the Kung Fu Family, and no one is more important than the other in this web. - "What is determinant is the objective propensity that logically follows from the situation as it is structured, not the goodwill of the individuals" (Jullien, 1992)

..."
(Entrevista do Professor Avron Boretz com um "Lomoa" (罗摩) de Taiwan)

That morning, Lucas Eustáquio, Rodrigo Caputo, Dani Eustáquio, Keith Markus, José Carlos, and Cayo Cesar would carry out a Ceremony of Discipular Reaffirmation. This, the result of two years of discussions and extensive study, whether through professional literature recommended by Grandmaster Leo Imamura or Professor Vanise Almeida, but primarily through the Instruments of the Safeguard Programme. People often say that I am interested in Genealogy, but there is a difference between being interested, enjoying, and approaching the subject within what we call the "Kung Fu Dimension." I have always believed that our disciples should not be subjected to our personal tastes or limitations... Indeed, as a Si Fu, we cannot restrict our disciples to our own limitations. Even if the price for doing so is high:

"...

-What exactly makes a man act with honour?
-Sometimes, you have no choice... In jiānghú (Gong Wu 江湖), you are not your own Master ("Ren zai jianghu, shen bu you ji" 人在江湖,身不由己). When you are in the spotlight, there is no way to leave the stage ("Xià bù liǎo tài" 下不了台).
-But what if you fail to act with honour?
-You will be forgotten. - He thought and continued. - What does it mean to have sworn brothers if there is no honour, if there is no correct spirit?"
(Interview with Professor Avron Boretz and a "Lomoa" (罗摩) from Taiwan)

(Boretz, 2011)

Si Gung quickly filled the space with his posture and conduct; not a word was heard when he began to pay homage to the ancestors. I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders. I did not expect to be happy at that moment; I wanted my disciples to experience a Discipleship Ceremony with their Si Taai Gung, representing the Moy Yat Lineage, in a manner that I still do not feel capable of achieving. And even if I were to reach that capacity one day, it would still seem a waste to remove them from the presence of a member of our genealogical tree, three generations above theirs. I had heard from my Si Fu, many years ago, over fifteen years ago, that a Si Fu would be the "doorman of the building." Therefore, although I was not merely happy, I was satisfied. For with each gesture from Si Gung, all the months of doubts and challenges faded away. I felt that I was doing my job as Si Fu, and doing it well: giving them access to what our Lineage can offer at its best, which will not always, or almost never, involve my own person.
It is said that Chinese speakers, living both inside and outside of jiānghú (Gong Wu 江湖), identify a moral quality above all others: "YiQi" (义气) / Ji Hei (義氣).

"... It is often described as a fundamental moral trait for members of secret societies or fraternities, where loyalty and commitment to others are essential, and a person's actions are viewed through the lens of their moral commitment to the group or their friends. This type of loyalty, however, can be challenging, as it often requires personal sacrifices, and a person must act in defence of the group's honour, even when this conflicts with social norms or conventional morality..." (Boretz, 2011)

(Jullien, 1992)

I was honoured by the presence of Masters Fabio Gomes and his wife Adriana, Master Felipe Soares, and Master Diego Guadelupe. Professor Vanise was unable to attend but invited me and my disciples to hold a video conference with her and my disciples about the Ceremony the following week. However, aside from Si Gung himself, when Master Fabio Gomes stood to perform the ceremonial opening in front of the complete ancestral table, it was a very emotional moment. On one occasion, for two consecutive days, the same person lit an incense, and later, the incense would not burn. At the end of the second day, Si Gung drew my attention to this, asking if I knew whose it was. Alone with him in the Institute, I said I did. It was then that I filled Si Gung with questions on the subject, and he concluded with: "...I am not saying anything, I am merely presenting the facts to you...".
According to Professor Karen L. Lai, music has two dimensions: one being that of presentation, and the other, that of its underlying emotion (仁 rén/Jan). By analogy, she argues that the practice of rituals (Li/Lai 禮) encompasses both the experience of presentation and the expression of human sentiment. Neither (Li/Lai 禮) nor music are meaningful if not accompanied by the appropriate human feelings (仁 rén/jan).
In this regard, Si Gung said little or nothing for most of the Ceremonial Act, perhaps, or most probably, it was not his place to lead the Ceremony to awaken emotions.- "It also implies a renunciation of the effort of persuasion and rests on a deep mistrust of the power of words: a mistrust that precisely characterises the ancient Chinese world... Since we can no longer rely on the explicatory efforts of Chinese thinkers, we will resort to the only resource left to us: the direct resource of experience..." (Jullien, 1992)

One by one, on that morning, they made their way before Si Gung, performed the ceremonial procedures, and sat down. When Cayo (photo above), the youngest among them, did the same, I remember feeling a sigh of relief. At that moment, an important part of this journey, supported by Grandmaster Leo Imamura and so many other members of the Moy Yat Sang Clan, was coming to an end. It is perhaps no coincidence that they now hold a seat in the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Safeguard Group.
Master Leonardo Mordente once wrote: '"...He who, for years, cultivates a relationship with someone whom he has never once addressed by their given name, but only by a form of address, cannot fail to associate with this a wide range of sentimental connotations, especially when such a form of address is foreign to his mother tongue. Each time the term "Si fu" is uttered, it reminds both disciple and master of their respective roles as fuel for the preservation of the flame of knowledge passed down through generations...."
I felt immensely grateful, particularly to Si Gung, for being there and taking part in the entire process. Not only supporting, but also endorsing everything that was happening that morning.

Official photographs were taken that morning, such as this one, in which the 'Daai Si Hing' from my Kung Fu Family appears alongside me and my Si Gung. During this Ceremonial Act, each disciple received a new 'Kung Fu Name'. This name is added to the previous one, and it is up to each individual to decide whether to adopt the new name or not. These names were chosen in consultation with Si Gung and, at my request, needed to be as simple as possible. My intention was that they would reflect the importance of the group rather than the individual within it.
It was then that magical things began to happen in the naming process, and although Si Gung says that "there is no magic in the 'Kung Fu Dimension'", sometimes it does good to see the processes in a more colourful way.
Sitting there, I remember thinking back to a time when I was with my Si Fu on the balcony of one of the apartments where he lived. I told him that, at times, I felt as though I were in a boat, drifting away from the shore, and that this caused me a sense of anguish. Many years later, I came across a saying: 'Chū jiānghú (chut Gong Wu 出江湖)', which can be translated as 'going out into rivers and lakes jiānghú (Gong Wu 江湖)'. According to Professor Avron Boretz, it is a place that can only exist beyond the stability and security of the village, the family, or conventional occupations. Therefore, just as this memory came to me, it also faded away, and I felt grateful for the preparation I am receiving for each step I take.

Eu nunca desisti.

After two years of discussions with Grand Master Leo Imamura, of my own accord, I was able, with his assistance and that of Professor Vanise Almeida, to dedicate myself to a deeper study of the pseudo-Family, the lineage to which it belongs, its rules, nuances, arrangements, and consequences.
During this period, I had the incredible opportunity, thanks to my disciple Keith Markus and my Kung Fu brother Roberto Viana, to examine all the instruments related to the study of the lineage during their Master's process. Through this study, I was able to validate and reframe many of the understandings I had regarding the legacy of the Moy Yat lineage and its information. This was all made possible by the collection at the Moy Yat Institute and the editorial work of the Memory Room, which, for the first time, presented Patriarch Moy Yat himself on different occasions, recounting numerous stories about "Jiu Paai", the authorisation to form a Family, the criteria for choosing Kung Fu names, and even responding to classic questions about potential changes along the genealogy.
Additionally, I was introduced by Si Taai to a brilliant Korean author who explores, among other topics, the significance of rituals and ceremonies. I also had access to the professional literature that Si Gung uses, which is available in his library in Brasília.
Over the past two years, I have been able to request clarifications from Si Gung on various doubts I had regarding Genealogy and Lineage. I was always welcomed by him, who offered more of his time than I had expected my topic to warrant.
Due to a series of challenges in terms of my own choices and those of other practitioners that affect or may affect the genealogy, and which I have experienced intensely, even though I did not wish to, I realised that it was important to delve into the subject under Si Gung’s guidance, in order to avoid making hasty or thoughtless decisions that might harm my descendants. Each of these decisions has, does, and will always carry a high cost, but it is what I consider to be the right course of action.
Thus, throughout 2024, I formulated the proposal to, during this Official Visit, hold a Discipleship Reaffirmation Ceremony, where my disciples were able to perform the "Baai Si" with Grand Master Leo Imamura. Not only because he is their Si Taai Gung, but also because he is the Leader of the Great Moy Yat Sang Clan. Essentially, this is my wish, through mistakes and successes, to understand that I am offering my best within what the lineage considers coherent. I have never given up.

A DISPOSABLE SI FU (師父) - A birthday story

For my birthday this year, I felt more prepared and determined. Until then, I lacked understanding of how to organise my birthdays, focusing mainly on my disciples surprising me, moving me, and sharing tributes and applause. However, the two recent experiences at the birthdays of Grand Master Leo Imamura in Brasília helped me to better understand what these moments represent, especially the last one, where I acted as an assistant.
I am fulfilling a social role within the martial circle, and this can be managed by me in the preparation, not only to honour, as best as we can, the position that a Si Fu occupies as the leader of a family, but also to maximise the potential of this event for "Kung Fu Life". At times, my interventions are direct; at others, indirect. Thanks to a new culture present in my family today, members recognise the need to hold various pre-events, even without me asking. To me, this feels like magic, but it is the result of a culture striving for excellence that we have committed to over the past two years. For even if things do not unfold as we wish, we will know that we did our best. And within the "Kung Fu Dimension".
As for the feeling of being honoured, this was something I discussed with Si Gung during a moment with him in São Paulo while we were closing the Institute at the last hour. In my understanding, it is as if I already have people around me, like relatives and friends, who bring this to me on my birthday. This allows me to dedicate my time and the date of my birth once again to the vocation I chose to follow: that of Si Fu, who happens to be Thiago Pereira. And not to experience the moment merely as Thiago Pereira, who happens to be a Si Fu. This implies not relying on the honouring, but always being attentive to the development of each disciple at every stage of the celebration.

According to Professor Byung-Chul Han, whose work was introduced to me by my Si Taai, Professor Vanise Almeida, many people seek authenticity as an alternative to traditions, as the formality that some established traditions require compels us to look "outwards," which carries a potential for transformation. However, because they are very connected to themselves, some people, in their inability to connect with the external, label this aversion to existing formalities as "authenticity."
I may be called "foolish," but I consider myself an admirer of formalities. I believe that, in this particular celebration, I was neither happy, nor sad, nor tense. This is because I do not enjoy celebrating birthdays of such magnitude. However, according to Si Gung, he would have said: "... We must allow our disciples to celebrate our lives..." Therefore, by leaning into my role as Si Fu and the responsibility it entails, I can transcend my own limitations. This is the power that I believe formality possesses, provided we are open to connecting with something beyond ourselves.

At this celebration, I was joined by many dear people, including Si Suk and younger Kung Fu brothers whom I can truly say I love. Since we are not just a simple "group of friends" who care for one another, I refer to all my Si Suk as "Si Suk", and my younger Kung Fu brothers call me "Si Hing", as obvious as that may seem. This arrangement creates a harmony that, at times, is easy to forget.
Perhaps the only exception is Vladimir (to my right in the photo), who has always called me "Thiago", and that has never been a problem between us. Thanks to the mutual affection and respect we have, I was also able to have one of the most emotional and difficult conversations of my journey. It was when, upon being personally invited by Vlad to a ceremony where he would receive a "Jiu Paai", I said that I needed to decline. Vlad immediately understood my position without his being affected, to the extent that he attended my birthday and offered the same caring advice he has given me over the past sixteen years about my personal life, knowing me so well.
I believe that our very special conversation in the middle of the hall at the end of the celebration was a moment I will undoubtedly hold in my heart. - "...You can be the best Si Fu you can be, the best practitioner you can be, but the problem in the future is that it may seem like something was missing..." - he said, as if he could read my thoughts. It was truly special.

I was honoured to have the presence of Professor Vanise Almeida, my Si Taai, who dedicated her Saturday evening to join me live via Zoom and present me in a unique way. It truly was a great honour. In addition to her, Grand Master Leo Imamura, my Si Gung, took almost ten minutes from his busy schedule to speak about what a Si Fu's birthday means and the term "Safeguard," which, surprisingly, is still so poorly understood. Other dignitaries from the Moy Yat lineage also sent messages, and members of the martial circle were present.
However, one moment in particular touched me deeply: when the son of my late Chinese teacher, Mr. Jaime Ma (photo), a man of few words, began to speak, it made me feel the presence of Professor Lily in that instant. Perhaps I was feeling a bit emotional as I remembered her, but for a few seconds, I was able to grasp the concept of "bringing to memory someone who has passed away." I was happy to have the presence of Jaime and Master Serpio, two of the people the Professor wished for me to connect with in her lifetime. This is the strength of her work, which went and will continue to go far beyond her own life. It truly was a significant moment.

Eu nunca desisti.

I believe that the true gift came through the words of my disciples. Not only because of the content of what was said, but also due to the sharpness of their words. I wasn’t thinking about feeling honoured or anything like that; I was more concerned with how each person's reasoning had been structured for that moment. And it truly was very special to witness the results of being immersed in this culture for the past two years. Our aim was to hold a celebration within the "Kung Fu Dimension", and I believe we took a beautiful first step.
The assertiveness with which each spoke, without space for emotional speeches, but rather true accounts of a "Kung Fu Life" fostered by the support network, moved me so much that, two days later, I sent a message of thanks to Si Gung. This is because I can’t understand how Vitor, who hasn’t been as involved in the intense experiences with Si Gung as Lucas has, can have the same sharp discourse. This is proof that, in the end, the good work of a Si Fu is to be completely dispensable. I didn’t know where they had learned to speak like that. And I think that’s why, little by little, I will be able to get there. I have never given up.

JIN CHOEI (戰捶) and BAAI YAP SI MUN (拜入師門)

Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most important phrases I have heard in the last decade is: "...Let us start from scratch as many times as necessary..."-  This phrase was said by Grand Master Leo Imamura in 2007, during a car journey, although he only conveyed it to me last year. Given the context in which it was uttered, it resonated with me deeply. Si Gung had realised, after two decades, that he was not performing his role effectively. He acknowledged that he needed to re-study the entire system and everything associated with that study from the beginning ("as many times as necessary").
This story has greatly inspired me. I remember (and have mentioned here before) the occasion when I picked up Grand Master Leo Imamura in the Barra neighbourhood and drove him to a visit in the Centre of Rio. During the journey, I remarked to him that I had noticed he seemed different, even with the limited acquaintance I had with him. I cited as an example his use of expressions such as "please" or "kindly" at the end of his sentences. "And why wouldn’t I say that?" he would have questioned.
For this reason, I feel as though I am possessed by spirits, unable to cease my study of the details of a particular component or listing this year, not only due to the inspiration from Grand Master Leo Imamura but also because I am aware that there is a group of individuals engaged in the same pursuit at every moment. "Just by the way a person approaches a subject, one can immediately gauge how much they have practiced or not..." - Si Gung is reported to have said recently in São Paulo. "...One must practise! It is not sufficient merely to speak; one must study!" - he comments.
But is starting from scratch truly that easy? Last weekend, I discovered that it is not.

Imediatamente abri um sorriso e me desconcentrei.

I was practising "Jin Choei (戰捶)" without understanding why the punches still lacked energy. Throughout the process, my mind was a sea of negative thoughts. I recalled that I had accessed this component in 2007, and there I was, still failing to grasp it. I also remembered when I was in São Paulo with Si Gung, after an in-depth study of "Luk Dim Bun Gwan," and when he asked me if I had "anything good to show," I replied that I did not.
My fortune in these moments continues to be the presence of my students. Due to my responsibility towards them, these discouraging thoughts do not take control, because I need to succeed. It was then that, during one of many attempts, I felt the punch coming. I immediately smiled and lost my focus. I returned to the initial position and hoped it hadn’t been merely luck. And it wasn’t. I managed to understand, in my own way, how to perform Jin Choei (戰捶) using energy from the ground, rather than from my will.

The problem was that, upon managing to do this, all my understanding of structure that I had developed with great effort since July went down the drain. I remembered Si Gung saying: "What is happening is that the System is demanding something from you and you cannot deliver..." It seemed that this was once again the case. There I was, rising on the base, bending my spine, etc. "Oh, no, come on... Seriously?"-  I remember thinking. Just as I was about to become disheartened, hands on my hips, I immediately recalled, effortlessly: "...Let us start from scratch as many times as necessary..."
My mind was still struggling to accept this reality. I would need to let go of all the study from the last few months, or I could understand that everything had been necessary to lead me to that moment of awareness. So, back to the initial position, it was time to understand the structure better. However, I returned home excited to study "Siu Nim Tau" and "Cham Kiu" and, subsequently, "Biu Ji", in order to develop the capability to support "Jin Choei (戰捶)" when it asked for it. As I do not have all that time, I will need to study everything simultaneously, but I have not yet figured out how. I decided to end the day by having an açaí bowl.

However, it certainly seemed to be a weekend full of strong emotions... I am always bombarding Si Gung with questions and doubts, and this time, while organising his "Official Visit" to my family on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of November, he invited me to a meeting on Saturday night: "I want to help you understand how to choose a hotel." So, on Saturday night, there we were, both online, looking at photos of hotels. With all the patience in the world, he asked me to describe what I could see in each photo. He then asked about my disciples, and that was when what might have been a 45-minute meeting turned into a 2.5-hour conversation.
"I don't want to be a bother," I commented, referring to the time. "Why do you think it’s a bother? I don’t understand..." Si Gung admonished, taking a pause. "A conversation that could define the future of your disciples—why would it be a bother? I truly don’t understand," he remarked emphatically. "It’s just that the meeting was about the hotel, and I don't want to take up your time..." I replied. "That’s not important; this is indeed our work," he said as we delved deeper into the conversation late into the night.
At one point, Si Gung's wife brought him something to eat. He thanked her, and we continued our discussion. The level of importance that Si Gung places on each individual is truly touching. This has nothing to do with me but rather with his commitment to safeguarding the System, which flows through me and many others. This impersonal approach allows everything to flow much better.

As we talked, Si Gung seemed to vary his mood: at times, he appeared concerned about some inconsistency in what I presented; at other moments, he would laugh upon hearing the level of misunderstanding within the Kung Fu Dimension regarding a particular case and the outcome resulting from it. However, what was never lacking was his patience and respect. "Come on! Who's next?" he would ask. We discussed each disciple: their moment, their story, their difficulties, and how their process of "Baai Si" (拜師) had unfolded. With great ease and awareness, Si Gung guided the conversation and helped me see the fragility with which the processes had been handled in my family. With each realisation, I felt my stomach churn. For me, it is truly important to deliver something of quality to the people who follow me, and acknowledging that the lack of understanding of the procedures related to "Baai Si" (拜師) had generated difficulties was quite hard. At times, I would stop and remain silent; at other moments, I would scratch my head...
Perhaps seeing that my spirit was weakened for the dynamics, Si Gung kindly offered a possibility and left it open for me to propose others later. While closing the Mo Gun around 11:45 p.m. that Saturday (I had stayed longer than planned), I still felt the impact of the meeting—"This because the meeting was supposed to be about hotels," I thought as I walked, laughing to myself. When I laughed, perhaps due to having relaxed or not, I remembered again: "...Let us start from scratch as many times as necessary..."
I still don’t know how, but we will.
