How to reach to a new level in Ving Tsun

Si Fu não é muito favorável a "motivação". Me parece que ele acredita que no momento em que paramos de "Motivar" uma pessoa, ela naturalmente vai diminuir sua energia até parar. Talvez por isso, Si Fu parece sempre assertivo e nunca parece se importar em "agradar". Ele sempre diz o que precisa ser dito ainda que isso não seja tão bom de ouvir. 
Certa vez, em clima descontraído prestes a me despedir dele e do Si Suk Homero no estacionamento do antigo Mo Gun no Edifício Blue Sky. Devido ao contexto do assunto e com um sorriso no rosto Si Fu parou , me encarou e disse para mim algo como: "Thiago, você é um milagre do Ving Tsun, sabia disso?" - Abri um sorriso espontâneo e balancei a cabeça negativamente, mas Si Suk Homero soltou o riso e percebi que se tratava de uma fala divertida do Si Fu: "... Não sabia?" - Indagou ele , prosseguindo em seguida: " ... Você era super chato, só queria saber de luta, vivia com a cara emburrada. Era burro. Burro não no sentido pejorativo, mas no sentido de empacar com uma ideia e não mover dali... E , apesar disso tudo, você está aqui hoje me dizendo isso... " - Si Suk Homero caiu na gargalhada e todos rimos. Si Fu falou uma última coisa rindo bastante: "É 'Seu Thiago' ...Ving Tsun também faz milagre!"- Nos abraçamos e ele entrou em seu carro.

Si Fu is not very supportive of "motivation". It seems to me that he believes that the moment we stop "motivating" a person, the person will naturally decrease his energy until he stops. Maybe that's why Si Fu always seems assertive and never seems to care about "please." He always says what needs to be said even though it is not so good to hear.
Once, in a relaxed mood about to say goodbye to him and Si Suk Homero in the parking lot of the old Mo Gun in the Blue Sky Building. Due to the context of the subject and with a smile on his face Si Fu stopped, he stared at me and said to me something like: "Thiago, you are a miracle from Ving Tsun, you know that?" I opened a spontaneous smile and shook my head, but Si Suk Homero laughed and I realized that it was Si Fu's amused speech: "... did not you know?You were super annoying, you just wanted to know about fight, you was dumbfounded, you was stupid, not stupid, but in the sense of packing with an idea and not moving from there," he said. "... And despite all this, you're here today telling me this ... "- Si Suk Homero burst into laughter and we all laughed. Si Fu said one last laughing thing: "Yeah Mister Thiago' ... Ving Tsun produces miracles too!" We hugged and he got into his car.

Ainda posso lembrar quando em 2004 , comecei a me sentir mal por ver contemporâneos meus acessando novos patamares dentro do Ving Tsun enquanto eu ficara estagnado no "Mui Fa Jong". Pessoas que eu tinha facilidade em praticar, agora estavam com uma habilidade muito superior a minha, e aquilo me parecia não ter explicação. Eles não praticavam mais do que eu, então o que era? 

Certa vez naquele ano Si Fu enonstado numa janela do antigo Núcleo Jacarepaguá disse algo como: "...Thiago, existe um momento do Ving Tsun em que é necessário se atingir um novo nível de entendimento. Enquanto você continuar partindo pra cima, agindo dessa maneira , enquanto você não entender esse outro nível de amadurecimento. Você vai continuar batendo num teto, que se você passar por ele, será porque entendeu do que eu estou falando..." 

I can still remember when in 2004, I began to feel bad for seeing contemporaries of mine accessing new heights within the Ving Tsun while I was stagnant in "Mui Fa Jong." People that I had easy to practice, now had a skill far superior to mine, and that seemed to me to have no explanation. They practiced no more than I did, so what was it?
Once in that year, Si Fu in a window of the old Jacarepaguá School said something like: "... Thiago, there is a moment in Ving Tsun when it is necessary to reach a new level of understanding. As long as you do not understand this other level of maturity, you will continue to hit a ceiling, if you go through it, it will be because you have understood what I am talking about ... "

 Demorei a entender do que Si Fu(foto) estava falando, mas quando consegui, me vi indo muito mais longe do que imaginei. Abri inclusive um Núcleo da Moy Yat Ving Tsun no Méier, no qual meu To Dai Pedro Freire(foto), foi o primeiro inscrito . Mas apesar disso descobri bem mais rápido, talvez por estar  frente de um processo, que ainda estava estagnado em certos casos com certas ideias.

I was slow to understand what Si Fu (photo) was talking about, but when I did, I found myself going a lot further than I imagined. I even opened a school  of Moy Yat Ving Tsun in Meier neighborhood in Rio, in which my To Dai Pedro Freire (photo) was the first to enroll. But in spite of that I found out much faster, perhaps because I was leading a process. That I was still stagnant in certain cases with certain ideas.

 Quando me tornei Diretor de Núcleo, passei a frequentar reuniões mais reservadas(foto) com Si Fu e Si Suk Ursula(foto), que na época, começando sua carreira na Zona Sul do Rio, ainda mantinha um papel de gestão muito significativo em nosso Mo Gun.

Sempre admirei a Si Suk Ursula profundamente,  achava que ela era perfeita no que se propunha a fazer e estava muito feliz de ter o mesmo acesso que ela tinha. Porém, eu mal sabia das literalmente inúmeras dores de cabeça que eu teria todas as vezes que nas Terças e Quintas saia das reuniões com eles. Si Fu costumava dizer para mim: "Pereira, este tempo é precioso. esta configuração que temos hoje comigo , você e a Ursula toda a Terça e Quinta não será para sempre. Precisamos aproveitar." - Mas eu não conseguia entender como eles pensavam. Eu trazia uns 20 tópicos para serem discutidos, Si Fu parava em um e ia com ele até o final de uma reunião. As vezes, ele lembrava de uma situação  curiosa e o assunto iria para outros lugares que para mim naquele momento, acabavam por nos atrapalhar. 

Eu saia dessas reuniões com as mesmas dúvidas, por outro lado, Si Suk Ursula e Si Fu pareciam se entender muito bem. Apesar dele mal passar pelos tópicos dela, ela parecia saber o que fazer quando as reuniões acabavam...

Portanto, ainda que estivesse presente fisicamente, não conseguia me conectar coração com coração , como eles faziam.

When I became Director of a school, I began attending more reserved meetings (photo) with Si Fu and Si Suk Ursula (photo), who at the time,was  beginning her career in the South Zone of Rio, still had a very significant management role in our Mo Gun.
I always admired Si Suk Ursula deeply, I thought she was perfect in what she set out to do and was very happy to have the same access she had to Si Fu. But I scarcely knew of the literally innumerable headaches that I would have every time on Tuesdays and Thursdays when leave the meetings with them. 
Si Fu used to say to me: "Pereira, this time is precious, this configuration we have today with me, you and Ursula every Tuesday and Thursday will not last forever. ". But I could not understand what they thought. I used to bring about 20 topics to be discussed, Si Fu would stop at one and go with him until the end of a meeting. Sometimes he remembered a curious situation and the subject would go to other places that for me at that moment, ended up disturbing us.

I left these meetings with the same doubts, on the other hand, Si Suk Ursula and Si Fu seemed to understand each other very well. Although he barely passed her subjects, she seemed to know what to do when the meetings were over ...
So even though I was physically present, I could not connect heart to heart, as they did.

Recentemente, pude acompanhar meu Si Fu até São Paulo, e presenciar sua participação numa reunião na "Casa dos Discípulos"(foto). Foi muito interessante vê-lo interagir com seus irmãos Kung Fu, dentre os quais Mestres, Tutores Qualificados e pessoas experientes. Em nenhum momento percebi Si Fu se apegar as suas ideias, entrar numa disputa de retórica, ou se aborrecer com algo que era contraposto ao apresentado. Tão pouco, o vi com pressa de fazer um check-list do que havia sido proposto e partir para o próximo tema... Ele apenas se deixava portar por cada proposta ou mudança apresentadas, e aderindo com o coração ao que era proposto ou contraposto, propunha uma terceira coisa.

Recently, I was able to accompany my Si Fu to São Paulo, and witness his participation in a meeting in the "House of the Disciples" (photo). It was very interesting to see him interact with his Kung Fu brothers, including Masters, Qualified Tutors and experienced people. At no point  I noticed Si Fu clinging to his ideas, entering into a rhetoric, or being annoyed by something that was opposed to what was presented. I did not see him in a hurry to make a check-list of what had been proposed and move on to the next topic ... He only allowed himself to behave for each proposal or change presented, and adhering with his heart to what was proposed or opposed , Proposed a third thing.

Quase de madrugada, de volta ao hotel(foto) , tivemos um momento de feedback com Si Fu. Todos citaram o momento da reunião dentre tantos que nós vivemos naquele dia . Para mim, depois de anos à frente do Núcleo Méier, já era possível entender que uma "reunião Kung Fu" , não dá necessariamente o que queremos sempre. Precisamos seguir o fluxo, e nos conectarmos de forma mais profunda do que só mental para tirarmos o que precisamos da mais simples fala. Talvez por isso, se diga que no Kung Fu, não usamos os ouvidos para ouvir, e sim o coração. 

Almost in the morning, back to the hotel (photo), we had a moment of feedback with Si Fu. Everyone said about the time of the meeting among so many that we lived that day. For me, after years of  work at Méier School, it was already possible to understand that a "Kung Fu meeting" does not necessarily give us what we  want to. We need to follow the flow, and connect in a deeper way than just mental to get what we need from the simplest speech. Maybe that's why, we say that in Kung Fu, we do not use the ears to hear, but the heart.

Beyond the challenge : It's not about the arts, but about people.

O que escrevo aqui, são fragmentos de memórias de uma história contada muitas vezes e de formas diferentes ao longo de 18 anos: O dia em que meu Si Fu participou de um desafio.

Bom, até onde sei, era final da década de 90, Natalia Imbruglia tocava nas rádios e Si Fu junto de seu Si Dai Fabio Gomes e de Si Gung, seguiram para o Kentucky de carro , pois Si Gung havia sido convidado para ministrar uma palestra sobre "Chutes do Ving Tsun" no maior DoJang de Tae Kwon Do da região.

What I write here are fragments of memories of a story told many times and in different ways over 18 years: The day when my Si Fu participated in a challenge.
Well, as far as I know, it was the end of the 90's, Natalia Imbruglia played on the radios and Si Fu with his Si Dai Fabio Gomes and Si Gung, they went to Kentucky by car, because Si Gung had been invited to give a lecture about "Ving Tsun Kicks" in Tae Kwon Do's biggest DoJang of the region.

Si Gung estava sendo recebido pelo Grão-Mestre Tung Cong Dinh da arte coreana do Tae Kwon Do. Grão-Mestre Tung Cong Dinh é uma grande autoridade do Tae Kwon Do nos EUA, promovendo a arte de uma maneira muito especial no Kentucky, EUA.
Toda a comitiva brasileira, começando por Si Gung, foi tratada com muito apreço pelo Grão-Mestre desde o início.

Si Gung was being received by Grand Master Tung Cong Dinh of Korean art of Tae Kwon Do. Grand Master Tung Cong Dinh is a great authority on Tae Kwon Do in the USA, promoting the art in a very special way in Kentucky, USA.
The entire Brazilian delegation, beginning with Si Gung, was treated with great appreciation by the Grand Master since the beginning.

Si Fu, que na foto acima faz uma expressão facial muito parecida com da sua filha Jade, demonstra o "Ding Geuk". Este dispositivo do Sistema Ving Tsun me causou um grande choque quando me foi apresentado pela primeira vez, pois o conceito por trás dele, diz respeito a permitir uma abordagem a outra perna que estiver vindo em nossa direção ou que esteja em nosso "range" de ação. Isso vai contra a concepção geral de que devemos usar os braços para abordar este tipo de situação.

Si Fu, who in the photo above makes a facial expression very similar to his daughter Jade, demonstrates the "Ding Geuk". This device of the Ving Tsun System caused me a great shock when it was presented to me for the first time, because the concept behind it is to allow an approach to another leg that is coming towards us or that is in our range of action. This goes against the general conception that we should use our arms to address this type of situation.

O Ving Tsun só possui o "Ding Geuk" e isso causa certa confusão pois para o praticante abaixo da média e também para os iniciantes , não está claro que demais movimentos de perna, são desdobramentos do entendimento do "Ding Geuk". Talvez por isso, muitos anos atrás esse dispositivo tenha ficado conhecido no Brasil apenas como "Laan Geuk" , quando na verdade, este é também um dos potenciais possíveis de se deixar portar a partir do conhecimento do "Ding Geuk".

The Ving Tsun only has the "Ding Geuk" and this causes some confusion because for the below average practitioner and also for the rookies, it is not clear that other leg movements are unfolding from the "Ding Geuk" understanding. Perhaps that is why, many years ago, this device became known in Brazil only as "Laan Geuk", when in fact, this is also one of the possible potentials of being able to behave from the knowledge of "Ding Geuk".

Ao final da palestra, o Mestre do local vestia sua roupa de prática.A comitiva brasileira percebeu o movimento e teria achado estranho. Foi quando após a audiência ir embora, o anfitrião teria convidado o Si Gung para uma "troca amistosa".
Bom, não sei como se deu, mas não importa muito. Acontece que Si Gung aceitou o convite, mas indicou Si Fu para representá-lo naquela oportunidade.
Si Fu subiu descalço no local de prática, quando ouviu , em português  de Si Gung para que "levantasse a guarda".

At the end of the lecture, the Master of the place wore his practice clothes. The Brazilian delegation noticed the movement and would have found it strange. It was when after the audience left, the host would have invited  Si Gung for a "friendly exchange".
Well, I do not know how it happened, but it does not matter much. It turns out that Si Gung accepted the invitation, but indicated Si Fu to represent him at that opportunity.Si Fu climbed barefoot at the practice spot, when he heard, in Portuguese from Si Gung "raise his guard".

"O que me chamou a atenção foi o fato do Si Gung falar em português comigo" - Teria dito Si Fu em certa ocasião. - "Porque quando viajamos em comitiva, existe o combinado de não falarmos em português perto de ninguém que não fale nosso idioma para não criar uma situação com a pessoa, não parecer que temos segredo. Por isso, quando ele falou comigo em português, eu mudei completamente por dentro".

"What caught my attention was the fact that Si Gung spoke Portuguese with me" - Si Fu would have said on one occasion to me. - "Because when we travel as a delegation, there is the combination of not speaking in Portuguese to anyone who does not speak our language so as not to create a situation with the person, it does not seem like we have a secret.  Em nosso Clã Moy Jo Lei Ou , sempre procuramos manter um tom de neutralidade. Isso tem muito a ver com a natureza de Si Fu que passa isso de uma forma muito adequada. Procuramos não ser tendenciosos para nenhum lado, exatamente para que qualquer membro do Clã ou de fora , se sinta a vontade para fazer parte dele. Ainda assim, certa vez Si Fu me disse algo como: "Você nunca pode recusar um convite para fazer Chi Sau. Pode ser quem for, você precisa aceitar e fazer para valer. Golpear se tiver que golpear. Fazer um Chi Sau honesto."

In our Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou, we always seek to maintain a tone of neutrality. This has much to do with the nature of Si Fu who passes this in a very appropriate way. We try not to be biased nowhere, just so any member of the Clan or outside, feel free to be part of it. Still, Si Fu once told me something like, "You can never refuse an invitation to do Chi Sau. Anyone, you have to accept it and make it in a honest way, hit if you have to strike. "

Mais tarde , naquele mesmo dia, a comitiva recebeu um telefonema do Grão-Mestre Tung Cong Dinh que convidou a todos para um jantar por sua conta, todo o jantar era direiconado ao Si Gung. Mas por conta dos eventos ocorridos, sua importância  havia aumentado ainda mais.


 Later that day, the party received a phone call from the GrandMaster Tung Cong Dinh who invited everyone to a dinner on hs own, the whole dinner was directed to Si Gung. But on account of the events that had occurred,Si Gung´s importance had increased even more.

Si Fu nunca deixou muito claro o que de fato aconteceu lá dentro , tão pouco , recebeu comentários de Si Gung sobre sua perfomance. Somente chegando ao Brasil , pôde receber os cumprimentos de irmãos-kung fu que não viajaram com ele mas que estiveram com o Si Gung no Brasil antes de dele.Só assim ele pôde entender o que havia ocorrido.
Nessa ocasião, Si Fu era suficientemente respeitado e passou a ser muito mais, elevando assim ainda mais o respeito por meu Mestre.

Si Fu never made it very clear what really happened inside, so little, he received comments from Si Gung about his performance. Only when he arrived in Brazil, he was able to receive the greetings of kung fu brothers who did not travel with him but who were with Si Gung in Brazil before him. Only then could he understand what had happened.
On that occasion, Si Gung was respected enough and became much more, thus raising even more respect for his Master.

Você poderia entrar no Mo Gun da Estrada do Tindiba(foto) nos anos 90 e ser atendido pelo meu Si Fu(foto) Julio Camacho, na época, Diretor do Local. Pelas histórias que se sabe, se ele sentisse que você não estava muito interessado em conhecer o Ving Tsun através da fala, ele simplesmente levantaria e faria uma demonstração, ali, ao vivo! E comigo foi assim também. Seu famoso pedido em minha primeira visita ao Mo Gun - "Me dá um chute. Qualquer um que você quiser" - Ficará para sempre em minha memória.

You could enter the Mo Gun of Tindiba Road(foto) in the 90's and be welcomed by my Si Fu (photo) Julio Camacho himself, then Director of the School. From the stories we know, if he noticed you were not very interested in chat, he'll just lift and make a demonstration, there, live! And so it was with me. His famous request on my first visit to the Mo Gun - "Give me a kick, whatever you want" - will stay forever in my memory.

Os anos foram passando, e o Si Fu de antes que recebia os interessados em conhecer a Moy Yat Ving Tsun e demosntrava técnicas incríveis , já não fazia mais isso. Ele não estava triste nem nada do tipo,  mas apenas tinha mudado sua abordagem. Tanto é, que mesmo eu que era tão aficionado pela parte de combate, lembro com mais nostalgia dentre tantos anos, do ano de 2006(foto). Esse foi um ano que não lembro do Si Fu mostrar absolutamente nada, mas ele nunca esteve tão aberto a convivência!

The years went by, and the Si Fu of before receiving those interested in getting to know Moy Yat Ving Tsun,and would show incredible techniques, he did not do that anymore. He was not sad or anything, but had just changed his approach. So much so that even I, who was so fond of combat, I remember with more nostalgia among so many years, from 2006 (photo). Naqueles tempos, ainda era possível definir qual era o "jeito do Si Fu" no momento. Hoje, isso já não é mais assim. Si Fu está sempre se reinventando e ressignificando sua própria vida, mudando de forma tão sucinta e ao mesmo tempo consciente , que hoje se torna muito mais necessário estar atento  para não perdê-lo de vista. A gente vai tropeçando e acompanhando...

In those times, it was still possible to define what was the "Si Fu's way"  at the moment. Today, this is no longer so. Si Fu is always reinventing himself and resignifying his own life, changing so succinctly and at the same time conscious, that today it becomes much more necessary to be aware not to lose sight of him. We stumble and follow ...

 Aos poucos , vi Si Fu começar a demonstrar técnicas novamente, a fazer Chi Sau para exemplificar o que estava falando, etc. Nessas horas eu corria e filmava com o celular o que podia. Não sabia quando seria possível ver de novo! E então , numa pacata Terça-feira neste ano, Si Fu aparece mostrando técnicas e permitindo ser filmado!

Gradually, I saw Si Fu start demonstrating techniques again, to do Chi Sau to exemplify what he was talking about, etc. At that time I would run and shoot with my cell phone what I could. I did not know when it would be possible to see him doing techniques again! And then, on a quiet Tuesday this year, Si Fu appears showing techniques and allowing himself to be filmed!

Foram quase duas décadas até que eu pudesse ver meu Si Fu em ação novamente! E a espera parece ter valido a pena! Hoje, eu e meus irmãos  podemos apreciar muito mais o que ele mostra. E como num filme em que já na metade nos sentimos mal porque sabemos que vai acabar . Já vejo com nostalgia esses momentos, pois sei que serão apenas um piscar de olhos na inacreditável história de vida de Si Fu.
