NOSTALGIC LUNCH WITH SI FU

Seguir seu Si Fu se trata de uma arte. Lembro de quando Si Fu conversava comigo no antigo Núcleo no Recreio dizendo que é fácil nos conectarmos com o que gostamos ou com o que nos interessa, mas é difícil de nos conectarmos com algo que não nos interessamos.

Possuímos flores na mesa ancestral, pois flores representam o cuidado constante que devemos ter. Segundo Si Gung , muitos To Dai se vangloriam de ter cuidado de seu Si Fu em determinada época, não entendendo que este cuidado deve ser dinamico e constante.

Following your Si Fu is an art. I remember when Si Fu was talking to me at the old former MYVT Recreio School, saying that it's easy to connect with what we like or what we care about, but it's hard to connect with something we do not care about.
We have flowers on the ancestral table, because flowers represent the constant care that we should have. According to Si Gung, many To Dai boast of taking care of their Si Fu at a given time, not understanding that this care must be dynamic and constant.

Para mim, isso tudo se refere a capacidade de um To Dai, de seguir seu Si Fu em seus diferentes momentos de vida e em seus diferentes projetos e propostas. Ainda que estes não lhe apeteçam tanto quanto seu tema predileto.

 Almoçar com Si Fu a dez anos atrás era um momento de relaxamento. Íamos sempre eu , ele e Paula Gama a algum local almoçar durante a semana. Às vezes, algum outro membro da Família Kung Fu ou do Clã aparecia, mas geralmente éramos nós três.

Si Fu falava sobre curiosidades do mundo do Kung Fu, histórias de suas viagens e de momentos de Vida Kung Fu. Tentava guardar o máximo de informação que conseguia , e confesso que foi uma época em que pude assimilar muitos desses conceitos, simplesmente enquanto almoçava.

For me, this all refers to the ability of a To Dai, to follow his Si Fu in his different moments of life and in his different projects and proposals. Although these do not appeal to you as much as your favorite theme.
Having lunch with Si Fu ten years ago was a time of relaxation. We would always go,  Paula Gama, Si Fu and I to some place to have lunch during the week. Sometimes some other member of the Kung Fu Family or the Clan appeared, but usually it was just the three of us.
Si Fu talked about curiosities of the world of Kung Fu, stories of his travels and moments of  Kung Fu Life. I tried to keep as much information as I could, and I confess that it was a time when I could assimilate many of these concepts, just while I was having lunch.

Com o passar dos anos, os vínculos que nos uniam foram apontando para um viés cada vez mais profissional. E com isso, muitas das vezes eu aparecia com alguma demanda sobre o Núcleo Méier, sobre algum membro do Núcleo, etc... E precisei , com muito esforço devido as minhas limitações. Atualizar a cada mudança de tempo, para entender aquelas mesmas lições mais diluídas em conversas na presença de outros irmãos Kung Fu. Conversas estas, que nem sempre me eram interessantes num primeiro momento.

Over the years, the bonds that united us were pointing to an increasingly professional bias. And with this, many times I appeared with some demand on the  Méier school, on some member of the school, etc ... And I needed, with much effort because of my own limitations, to update with each change of time, to understand those same lessons, more diluted in conversations in the presence of other Kung Fu brothers, who were not so interesting for me at the first glance.

Recentemente estivemos no Barra Shopping com Si Fu para um almoço no último feriado. Entrar ali com Si Fu para almoçar, era como voltar no tempo, já que era nesse shopping que sempre almoçávamos.

Ao sentarmos na mesa, o tema acabou fluindo para questões profissionais, e como sempre, o Kung Fu se mostrava “não aparente” no que era dito. Foi então que em determinado momento, o membro da Família Moy Jo Lei Ou mais novo presente, fez alguns comentários sobre sua vontade de aprender a fazer pequenas demonstrações, para que seus amigos, a quem pretendia indicar o Ving Tsun, pudessem se entusiasmar.  

We recently visited Barra Shopping with Si Fu for a lunch last holiday. To go there with Si Fu for lunch, it was like going back in time, since it was in this mall that we always had lunch.

As we sat down at the table, the subject eventually flowed into professional matters, and as always, Kung Fu was "underneath" what was said. It was then that at one point, the Family member of Moy Jo Lei Ou Family, the younger present, made some comments about his willingness to learn to make small demonstrations, so that his friends, whom he intended to indicate the Ving Tsun, could get excited.

Foi então que em determinado momento, durante um espaço vazio, tomei a palavra e com um pequeno gesto, falei um pouco sobre como ele poderia fazer uma demonstração segura, sem o risco de não funcionar ou ser golpeado.  Si Fu se apoiou e fez algumas demonstrações na própria mesa com este praticante que é seu To Dai. Eu e Iuri registramos alguns desses momentos, e me percebi abrindo um sorriso.

It was then that at a certain moment, during an empty space, I took the floor and with a small gesture, I talked a little about how he could make a safe demonstration, without the risk of not working or being hit. Si Fu leaned back and made some demonstrations at his own table with this practitioner who is his To Dai.  Iuri , who was also there, and I , recorded some of those moments, and I realized myself with a smile.

Ao final, acompanhei Si Fu, Claudio e Iuri até o carro, o que me lembrou também quando por volta de 2009 e 2010. Levava Si Fu e suas filhas até seu antigo Zafira no mesmo estacionamento após almoçarmos com ele , Antunes e Thiago Silva ao final de uma prática no Sábado.

Todos aqueles momentos e lembranças, me fizeram relaxar e sorrir . E caminhando de volta para dentro do shopping, onde precisaria resolver mais “coisas de adultos” (risos). Refleti sobre o esforço que ainda me é necessário fazer para conectar com pessoas e situações que não me remetem ao romantismo que tenho comigo, a respeito das artes marciais.

In the end, I accompanied Si Fu, Claudio and Iuri to the car, which also reminded me when around 2009 and 2010 when we used to took Si Fu and his daughters to his old Zafira car in the same parking lot after lunch with him, Antunes and Thiago Silva in end of the practices on Saturday.

All those moments and memories made me relax and smile. And walking back into the mall, where I would have to solve more "adult stuff" (laughs). I reflected on the effort that I still have to do to connect with people and situations that do not remind me of the romanticism I have within me about martial arts.

É , eu acho que foi tudo uma questão de nostalgia e fantasiar em ser "criança" novamente.... (risos).

FRANCE WITH SI FU : ONE YEAR LATER.

Parece que foi a uma vida atrás, mas apenas um ano se passou desde que sentei na poltrona do avião ao lado de Si Fu e Claudio Teixeira rumo à França.

It seems like it was a lifetime ago, but only a year has passed since I sat in the airplane seat next to Si Fu and Claudio Teixeira heading for France.

Poucas semanas antes, sentava-me com Si Fu numas mesas que tinham no pátio do antigo prédio onde ficava o Núcleo Barra chamado CEO Offices. Lá, Si Fu conversava comigo mais uma vez, sobre a necessidade de eu me libertar de certas crenças . Aquela conversa em particular, dizia respeito à viagem à Argentina que eu quase fui um mês antes e desisti na última hora, e agora o mesmo acontecia com a viagem à Europa. Terminei aquela conversa prometendo a Si Fu que reconsideraria minha ida, ainda que, internamente não visse uma forma de fazê-lo.

A few weeks before, I would sit with Si Fu at the tables in the courtyard of the old building where the MYVT Barra School used to be located at CEO Offices. There, Si Fu was talking to me again about the need for me to free myself from certain beliefs. That particular conversation related to the trip to Argentina that I almost went to a month before and gave up at the last minute, and now it was the same with the trip to Europe. I finished that conversation by promising Si Fu that I would reconsider my going, even though, internally, I did not see a way to do it.

Quando finalmente comprei a passagem, mal pude acreditar . Sei que para muitas pessoas que leem esse artigo, talvez não entendam sobre o que estou falando, mas para mim, realmente era um movimento que considerava impossível poucas semanas antes.

Com a ajuda de meus To Dai , consegui o passaporte e material que me permitiu me preparar melhor para essa viagem. Estudei com muito afinco todos os caminhos, transportes, hotéis e possibilidades de roteiro. Gravei tudo em minha memória e o que não consegui , anotei.

When I finally bought the ticket, I could hardly believe it. I know that for many people who read this article, they may not understand what I'm talking about, but for me, it really was a movement that I thought impossible just a few weeks ago.

With the help of my To Dai, I got the passport and material that allowed me to prepare better for this trip. I studied very hard all the ways, transports, hotels and possibilities of itinerary. I recorded everything in my memory and what I could not, I wrote down.

Si Fu me incumbiu de contatar alguns autores que sou quase fã como François Jullien e Anne Cheng. Mesmo com a ajuda de minha To Dai, não conseguimos marcar com Jullien, e a Sra Anne Cheng, que cordialmente me respondeu que estaria , infelizmente, fora do país na oportunidade.

De forma alguma desanimei, preparei um roteiro bem especial , de forma que pudéssemos fazer a maior parte do percurso a pé pelas ruas de Paris.

Si Fu commissioned me to contact some authors that I am almost a fan like François Jullien and Anne Cheng. Even with the help of my To Dai, we were not able to schedule François Jullien, and Mrs Anne Cheng, who cordially replied that she would unfortunately be out of the country at the opportunity.

By no means discouraged, I prepared a very special itinerary so that we could do most of the walking on the streets of Paris.

Sentado no avião, não pude acreditar quando ele decolou. Depois de ouvir tantas histórias das viagens internacionais de Si Fu com Si Gung, lá estava eu fazendo a minha primeira. Em minha cabeça, uma grande aventura começava e cinco dias me separavam do retorno para casa. Ao aterrissar na França, algo no clima estava diferente. Não era calor ou frio, era uma sensação estranha de estar num lugar não só que nunca estive, mas que nunca me imaginei.

Sitting on the plane, I could not believe it when it took off. After hearing so many stories of Si Fu's international travels with Si Gung, there I was doing my first with him. In my head, a great adventure began and five days separated me from the return home. Something in the weather was different when we landed in France. It was not heat or cold, it was a strange sensation to be in a place not only that I had never been, but never imagined.

Passamos pela imigração sem maiores problemas, e ali começava meu papel de guia. Apesar de um pequeno erro, consegui levar o grupo até o transporte, um shuttle, que deveríamos pegar. Sabia que Si Fu seguiria minhas instruções, perguntando vez ou outra : “...É isso mesmo Pereira?” – Se eu dissesse que sim, ele iria, e mais tarde eu teria que me responsabilizar pela escolha equivocada.

We passed immigration without major problems, and there began my role of guide of the delegation. Despite a small mistake, I managed to take the group to the shuttle, a shuttle, which we should get. I knew Si Fu would follow my instructions, asking sometimes: "... Are you sure Pereira?"-  If I said "yes", he would follow me, and later I would have to take responsibility for the wrong choice.

Sem maiores problemas, conseguimos pegar o RER , que nos levou até a Ille de France, onde tomamos o metrô em Chaletet les halles . Foi muito interessante essa primeira parte do trajeto, pois ela tinha sido desenhada com a ajuda de meu To Dai Keith Markus e meu irmão Kung Fu André Almeida.

 Já no hotel, após um pequeno contratempo na recepção, decidimos o que faríamos após todos tomarem banho. Eu estava muito feliz, pois o quarto de hotel era perfeito. Si Fu também ficou muito satisfeito. O quarto de hotel havia sido negociado pelo Claudio.

Without major problems, we were able to take the RER, which took us to Ille de France, where we took the subway at Chaletet les halles. It was very interesting this first part of the journey, because it had been drawn with the help of my To Dai Keith Markus and my Kung Fu brother André Almeida.

Already at the hotel, after a little setback at the reception, we decided what we would do after everyone else took a shower. I was very happy because the hotel room was perfect. Si Fu was also very pleased. The hotel room had been negotiated by Claudio.

Guiei nosso grupo até a Praça do Louvre! Lembro da sensação quando desci ali. Claro que lembrei de “Código da Vinci”, mas também lembrei de “O Beijo do Dragão”(Kiss of the Dragon,2001) com Jet Li.  E entre tantas referências cinematográficas, pude apreciar a estação do Louvre ainda sem acreditar que estava lá. Eu não estava impressionado com Paris, mas por estar acompanhando Si Fu fora do Brasil. E foi apenas quando pisei na praça do Louvre , em meio a tantas construções em pedra, que me senti de fato na Europa.

I guided our group to the Louvre! I remember the feeling when I came down. Of course I remembered "The Da Vinci Code" but I also remembered "Kiss of the Dragon" (2001) starring Jet Li. And among so many movie references, I was able to enjoy the Louvre station even though I did not believe I was there . I was not impressed by Paris, but by being accompanying Si Fu out of Brazil. And it was only when I stepped on the Louvre square, amidst so many stone buildings, that I really felt in Europe.

Tiramos algumas fotos, e depois resolvemos comer nas redondezas.  Era simplesmente incrível! Havia estudado tanto os trajetos e localidades, que nada me era estranho ali. 

We took some photos, and then we decided to eat in the neighborhood. It was simply amazing! I had studied both the routes and localities, that nothing was strange there.

Havia visto muitos vídeos de youtube mostrando a região. E pude com tranquilidade, conduzir Si Fu e Claudio até o Jardim de Tullieres , próximo dali, e demais localidades.

I had seen many youtube videos showing the region. And I was able to calmly lead Si Fu and Claudio to the nearby Tullieres Garden, and other places.

Paramos para tomar café no início da tarde em um dos famosos cafés parisienses. E Si Fu chamou a nossa atenção para o fato de que as cadeiras ficavam viradas para a rua, e não de frente umas para as outras como é aqui no Brasil.

 Sentado ali naquele café parisiense, bebendo café sem açúcar conforme Si Fu me ensinara dois anos antes,senti pela primeira vez uma singela vontade de residir na Europa....

We stopped for coffee in the early afternoon in one of the famous Parisian cafes. And Si Fu called our attention to the fact that the chairs were facing the street, and not facing each other as it is here in Brazil.

Sitting there in that Parisian cafe, drinking coffee without sugar as Si Fu taught me two years before, I felt for the first time a simple will to live in Europe ....

2 semanas antes...

Me encontrava sentado no Deli Delicia do Península com Si Fu e falava para ele o quanto era um cara caseiro, que tinha minha “Meia dúzia de três” amigos desde sempre, etc... Si Fu ouvia aquilo tudo achando graça de certa forma, talvez pela inocência do que era dito. Eu comentava que não conseguia ver o total sentido destas viagens. E Si Fu comentou: “Quando viajamos para outro país Thiago, coisas simples como pagar uma conta de restaurante, deixam de ser tão simples. Você tem ideia do que é sentar em um restaurante e não saber como pagar a conta? “

De volta a Paris.

2 weeks before ...

  I was sitting in Deli Delicia Cafe of the Peninsula neighborhood with Si Fu and I told him how I was a guy who like to stay home, who had my "Half-dozen of three" friends since always, etc ... Si Fu heard it all in a certain way, perhaps by the innocence of what was said. I was saying that I could not see the full meaning of these trips. And Si Fu commented: "When we travel to another country Thiago, simple things like paying a restaurant bill, stop being so simple. Do you have any idea what it's like to sit in a restaurant and not know how to pay the bill? "

Back to Paris.

Caminhávamos pelas ruas de Paris, chegamos a nos perder em alguns momentos, mas Si Fu comentou: “Dizem que é impossível se perder em Paris. A cada esquina existe um monumento, e então você já sabe onde está.” – Claudio sorriu.

Finalmente chegamos a uma movimentada rua que levava até a mundialmente famosa Torre Eiffel .

We walked the streets of Paris, we lost our way in a few moments, but Si Fu commented: "People say that it is impossible to get lost in Paris. Every corner there is a monument, and then you already know where it is. "- Claudio smiled.

Finally we came to a busy street that led to the world famous Eiffel Tower.

Não sei precisar o que senti quando vi a Torre Eiffel. Estávamos todos sorrindo, ainda que por razões diferentes. Nunca tinha ido tão longe de casa, e nunca tinha estado num lugar tão bonito. Aquele momento, foi a materialização da conversa que havia tido com Si Fu nas mesinhas do CEO poucas semanas antes. Em nenhum momento, ele duvidou de que eu poderia chegar até ali, ainda que eu tivesse certeza de que não conseguiria.

I do not know what I felt when I saw the Eiffel Tower. We were all smiling, for different reasons. I had never been so far from home, and had never been in such a beautiful place. That moment, it was the materialization of the conversation that had had with Si Fu in the tables of MYVT Barra School building few weeks before. At no point did he doubt that I could get there, even though I was sure I could not.

Sentamos e tomamos sol no Champs de Mars, e algumas fotos antológicas foram registradas naquele momento.  

We sat and sunbathed on the Champs de Mars, and some anthologycal photos were taken at that time.

A viagem continuou pelas ruas de Paris e por outras cidades da Europa. Porém, assim como o filme vencedor do Oscar de 1976, “Rocky, um lutador” (Rocky, 1976), congela a imagem da vitória como a cena final do filme. Prefiro parar por aqui, com essa imagem minha fazendo Siu Nim Tau sob a Torre Eiffell.  O símbolo máximo para mim, do olhar de um Si Fu que acredita em seu To Dai. O garoto problema que fazia Siu Nim Tau com má vontade em Jacarepaguá, agora era o Mestre, que ele acreditou, fazendo Siu Nim Tau sob a Torre Eiffell dezoito anos depois.

The trip continued through the streets of Paris and other European cities. But like the 1976 Oscar-winning movie Rocky(1976), it freezes the image of victory as the final scene of the film. I'd rather stop here, with this image of me doing Siu Nim Tau under the Eiffell Tower. The ultimate symbol for me, from the look of a Si Fu believing in his To Dai. The problem boy who was making Siu Nim Tau ill-tempered in former Jacarepagua school , was now the Master, whom he believed, doing Siu Nim Tau under Eiffell Tower eighteen years later.

THE FIRST MEMBERS TO ACCESS "BIU JI"

Recentemente tive a oportunidade de dar acesso a dois membros de minha Família Kung Fu ao Domínio "Biu Ji". Vitor Sá e Keith Markus, são membros vitalícios de Décima Terceira Geração , e participaram deste momento, que foi um dos últimos marcos em nosso primeiro endereço no bairro do Méier.

I recently had the opportunity to give access to two members of my Kung Fu Family to the "Biu Ji" Domain . Vitor Sá and Keith Markus, are special students of the Thirteenth Generation of Moy Yat Lineage, and participated in this moment, which was one of the last milestones in our first address in the Méier neighborhood.

(Momentos antes da minha Cerimônia de acesso ao Domínio "Biu Ji", que ocorrera dois anos depois de eu ter tido acesso a este domínio, por não ter conseguido participar da Cerimônia na época certa.)

Ainda posso lembrar de quando acessei o Domínio “Biu Ji” do Sistema Ving Tsun. Era uma manhã de Sábado e eu acordei me sentindo mal, por conta disso, não compareci na Cerimônia que me daria acesso a este Domínio. Após conversar com Si Fu, esclareci o ocorrido, e me foi dada uma autorização especial para começar a prática mesmo sem ter realizado a Cerimônia. Assim, foi apenas em 2004 que realizei a Cerimônia. Por coincidência, também em Niterói, numa região que nunca havia estado antes, chamada Pendotiba.

I can still remember when I accessed the "Biu Ji" Domain of the Ving Tsun System. It was a Saturday morning and I woke up feeling ill, because of that, I did not attend the Ceremony that would give me access to this Domain. After talking to Si Fu, I clarified what happened, and I was given a special authorization to begin the practice even without having performed the Ceremony. So it was only in 2004 that I performed the Ceremony. Coincidentally, also in Niterói, in a region that had never been before, called Pendotiba.

Os primeiros membros da Família Moy Jo Lei Ou a acessarem este Domínio que compõe o que chamamos de “Nível Avançado”, foram meus irmãos Kung Fu Flavio Jesus, Gil Batista e Murilo Nascimento. Isso ocorre, porque eu e Si Hing Leonardo Reis, dentre outros, éramos membros da Família Moy Yat Sang, e só anos depois, faríamos o ingresso formal na Família Moy Jo Lei Ou, devido a nossa relação com nosso Si Fu Julio Camacho.

The first members of the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family to access this Domain that makes up what we call the "Advanced Level" were my Kung Fu brothers  Flavio Jesus, Gil Batista and Murilo Nascimento. This is because I and Si Hing Leonardo Reis, among others, were members of the Moy Yat Sang Family, and only years later, we would formally enter the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family, due to our relationship with our Si Fu Julio Camacho.

Gil e Murilo eram onipresentes na Família Kung Fu. Participavam de todos os processos importantes naqueles tempos, desde tutorizar as sessões do Núcleo Jacarepaguá até mesmo uma pintura na residência do Si Fu.

Gil and Murilo were ubiquitous in the Kung Fu Family. They participated in all the important processes in those times, from tutoring the sessions of the Jacarepaguá School to even a painting at the Si Fu residence.

Era como se a Família Moy Jo Lei Ou, tivesse uma impressionante sorte, de contar logo de cara, com membros tão dedicados quanto Gil e Murilo. Além deles, Pablo Valente, Ricardo Teixeira, Flavio Jesus e Aurea Celi compunham aquele primeiro time. E logo depois, Paula Gama e Xenia D’Avila completaram esta primeira geração.

It was as if the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family, had an impressive fortune, to count straight away, with members as dedicated as Gil and Murilo. Besides them, Pablo Valente, Ricardo Teixeira, Flavio Jesus and Aurea Celi made up that first team. And soon after, Paula Gama and Xenia D'Avila completed this first generation.

O que ocorre, é que o caminho das artes marciais quando levado a sério, atravessa diferente fases da vida de um praticante e de sua personalidade. Nem sempre, esses fatores se combinam e nesse caso , ocorre o afastamento do mesmo. E muitas das vezes, de pessoas que você nunca sonharia que seria possível ocorrer um afastamento. Como foi o caso de Gil e Murilo. Ao ponto, de mais de uma década depois, apenas os irmãos Kung Fu que permaneceram desde então, lembrarem de nomes que eram quase impensáveis de não se conhecer.

What happens is that the way of the martial arts when taken seriously, goes through different phases of the life of a practitioner and his personality. Not always, these factors combine and in this case, the separation occurs. And many times, people you would never dream that it would be possible to leave the family. As was the case with Gil and Murilo. To the point, of more than a decade later, only the Kung Fu brothers who have remained since, remember names that it was almost unthinkable not to know in the Kung Fu Family.

Mais de uma década depois de seus afastamentos, me encontro como Líder da Família Moy Fat Lei, e recentemente,dois membros de minha Família Kung Fu tiveram acesso ao Domínio “Biu Ji”. São dois dos To Dai mais dedicados, e não pude resistir à lembrança de Gil e Murilo. Ainda que sejam casos completamente diferentes.

More than a decade after their departure, I am  the Moy Fat Lei Family Leader, and recently two members of my Kung Fu Family have had access to the "Biu Ji" Domain. They are two of the most dedicated To Dai, and I could not resist the memory of Gil and Murilo. Although they are completely different cases.

É verdade, que outro de meus To Dai, Pedro Freire que atualmente reside em Volta Redonda. Estava praticando o Domínio “Mui Fa Jong” quando precisou interromper sua prática. Mas assim como eu, Pedro migrou de uma Família Kung Fu para outra. No caso, da Família Moy Jo Lei Ou para a Família Moy Fat Lei.

It is true that another of my To Dai, Pedro Freire who currently resides in Volta Redonda city. He was practicing the "Mui Fa Jong" Domain when he had to stop his practice. But like me, Pedro migrated from one Kung Fu Family to another. In his case,from  the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family to the Moy Fat Lei Family.

Assim sendo, foi com muita satisfação que dei acesso ao Domínio “Biu Ji” aos membros vitalícios de décima terceira geração da Linhagem Moy Yat, Vitor Sá e Keith Markus. E com isso, todos nós ganhamos: A Família Moy Fat Lei começará a exigir mais maturidade de seu Si Fu e de seus membros. Não por questões técnicas, mas por conta do que esse novo Domínio, começará a demandar da relação de Vida Kung Fu.

It was with great satisfaction that I gave access to the "Biu Ji" Domain to the special students of the thirteenth generation of the Moy Yat Lineage, Vitor Sá and Keith Markus. And with that, we all win: The Moy Fat Lei Family will begin to demand more maturity from their Si Fu and their members. Not for technical reasons, but on account of what this new Domain, will begin to demand of the relation of Kung Fu Life.
