AN ESSAY ON "JING MA"(戰馬) FROM THE LUK DIM BUN GWAN DOMAIN

"...Essencialmente, a experiência 'Zen' é uma experiência súbita, e é inúmeras vezes descrito como uma reviravolta da mente, assim como os pratos de uma balança se desequilibram quando num deles se coloca material suficiente para a contrabalançar o peso do outro. É, pois, uma experiência que ocorre após um esforço longo e concentrado para descobrir o significado do Zen.Sua causa imediata pode ser o fato mais trivial, ao passo que seu efeito tem sido descrito pelos mestres zen da maneira mais surpreendente..." (The Spirit Of Zen, 1936 - Allan W. Watts - John Murray Publishers).
Chamamos de "Momento Oportuno" no Grande Clã Moy Yat Sang, àquele momento em que ocorre a tomada de consciência. Pois apesar de termos nosso horário agendado(que chamamos de "Momento Programado"), não necessariamente essa tomada de consciência se dará nesse mesmo dia.

"... Essentially, the 'Zen' experience is a sudden experience, and it is repeatedly described as a turn of the mind, just as the plates on a scale become unbalanced when enough material is placed in one of them to counterbalance the weight It is, therefore, an experience that occurs after a long and concentrated effort to discover the meaning of Zen. Its immediate cause may be the most trivial fact, whereas its effect has been described by Zen masters in the most surprising way ... "(The Spirit Of Zen, 1936 - Allan W. Watts - John Murray Publishers).
We call it the "Moment of Opportunity" in the Grand Clan Moy Yat Sang, that moment when awareness comes. Because even though we have our scheduled practice time (which we call "Scheduled Moment"), this awareness will not necessarily take place that same day.

Recebi o acesso ao Domínio Luk Dim Bun Gwaan em 10 de Março de 2007, junto de meu irmão Kung Fu Vladimir Anchieta(Foto). Poucas horas depois, já na Segunda-feira, estaríamos novamente diante de Si Fu que nos orientava para nosso primeiro Momento Programado de Luk Dim Bun Gwaan. Ele nos apresentou um novo posicionamento corporal chamado "Sei Ping Taai Ma".
Naquele primeiro momento, só me tocou a "anatomia" do trabalho. A posição era tão diferente e incomoda, que não dava para pensar em mais muita coisa. Si Fu diz: "...Quando se pratica no Domínio Luk Dim Bun Gwaan, o 'Kung Fu' deve estar presente..."  - Segundo ele, esse "Kung Fu" não é esperado apenas do tutorado, mas do tutor também.

 I received access to the Luk Dim Bun Gwaan Domain on March 10, 2007, together with my Kung Fu brother Vladimir Anchieta (Photo). A few hours later, already on Monday, we would be facing Si Fu again, who was guiding us to our first Scheduled Moment of Luk Dim Bun Gwaan. He introduced us to a new body positioning called "Sei Ping Taai Ma".
In that first moment, only the "anatomy" of the work impacted me. The position was so different and uncomfortable, I couldn't think of much else. Si Fu says: "... When practicing in the Luk Dim Bun Gwaan Domain, 'Kung Fu' must be present ..." - According to him, this "Kung Fu" is not only expected from the student, but also from the tutor .

As práticas do "Jing Ma" com Vlad seguiam-se nos lugares mais variados. Até mesmo numa das antigas residências de Si Fu(como vemos nas fotos). Por um encontro do destino, geralmente era o Si Suk Diego o assistente de Si Fu nessas oportunidades. Acontece, que o "Jing Ma" possuí um espírito próprio, pois o "Jin"(戰) de "Jing Ma"(戰馬), significa "Batalha". Então agora estamos pegando aquela mesma configuração inicial chamada "Sei Ping Taai Ma" e atrelando à ela uma função.
Si Fu diz, que precisamos olhar um mesmo estudo através de três conceitos distintos: "Anatomia", "Função" e "contexto". - "...É como o 'Ding Jeang' e o 'Noi Mun Jeang'... " - Nesse exemplo, apesar de estarmos falando do dispositivo da "palma"(Jeang), o contexto em que ela é trabalhada, também afeta sua função. Então entendi que podemos trabalhar o "Jing Ma"(戰馬) sem estarmos necessariamente em "Sei Ping Taai Ma". Ainda que Si Fu diga acreditar que o "Sei Ping Taai Ma", tenha a anatomia mais adequada ao melhor aproveitamento.

The practices of "Jing Ma" with Vlad followed in the most varied places. Even in one of Si Fu's old residences (as we see in the photos). For a meeting of fate, Si Suk Diego was usually Si Fu's assistant in these opportunities. It turns out, that the "Jing Ma" has a spirit of its own, because the "Jin" (戰) of "Jing Ma" (戰馬), means "Battle". So now we are taking that same initial configuration called "Sei Ping Taai Ma" and attaching a function to it.
Si Fu says, that we need to look at the same study through three different concepts: "Anatomy", "Function" and "context". - "... It's like 'Ding Jeang' and 'Noi Mun Jeang' ..." - In this example, although we are talking about the "palm" device (Jeang), the context in which it is worked, also affects its function. So I understood that we can work on "Jing Ma" (戰馬) without necessarily being on "Sei Ping Taai Ma". Although Si Fu says he believes that "Sei Ping Taai Ma", has the most adequate anatomy for the best use.

"Sei Ping Taai Ma"(四平太馬) é uma base na qual com os joelhos abertos, você forma quatro pontos somando-se os dois pés. - "Se você descer demais o quadril ou subir demais. Você cria um quinto angulo.." - Alertou Si Fu.
Apenas mais de uma década depois, tomei consciência de que o "Sei Ping Taai Ma"(四平太馬), tão penoso para mim por conta do meu joelho, poderia ter sido melhor praticado. Por vezes, amplificamos limitações e elaboramos ou polimos nossas justificativas ao ponto de serem impenetráveis. Desta forma, não só não praticamos (primeiro passo para que um dia seja possível entender a estrutura interna de um Domínio), como também não permitimos que sejamos trabalhados por outrem.
Acredito que esse seja um uso indevido do potencial da relação discipular que é para toda a vida. Como ela é para toda a vida, deixamos sempre para depois. Mas esse "depois" pode não chegar... - "...Hoje estamos aqui conversando, quando você pensou que ficaríamos quatro meses sem nos ver? Acredito que voltaremos a nos ver. Talvez não. Talvez eu morra, talvez você morra e um dos dois seguirá essa história sozinho..." - Disse Si Fu.

"Sei Ping Taai Ma" (四平 太 馬) is a base on which with your knees open, you form four points by adding the two feet . - "If you lower your hips too much or go too high. You create a fifth angle .." - Warned Si Fu.
Just over a decade later, I became aware that the "Sei Ping Taai Ma" (四平 太 馬), so painful for me because of my injured knee, could have been better practiced. Sometimes we amplify limitations and elaborate or polish our justifications to the point that they are impenetrable. In this way, not only do we not practice (first step so that one day it is possible to understand the internal structure of a Domain), but we also do not allow us to be worked on by someone else.
I believe that this is a misuse of the potential of the discipleship relationship that is for life. As it is for life, we always leave it for later. But this "later moment" may not arrive ... - "... Today we are here talking, when did you think we would be without seeing each other for four months? I believe we will see each other again. Maybe not. Maybe I will die, maybe you will die and one of the two of us will follow this story alone ... " - Said Si Fu.

The legacy of the King of Luk Dim Bun Gwaan

Me lembro de entender do que Si Fu falou certa vez que após o falecimento do Patriarca Moy Yat. Os membros seniors da Moy Yat Ving Tsun se reuniram para decidirem alguns pontos a respeito do que viria a seguir. Em determinado momento, um deles teria dito, que todos deveriam permanecer juntos, pois tinha um pouco do Kung Fu de Si Taai Gung Moy Yat  com cada um deles. E a única maneira de ter a completude disso, era permanecerem juntos.
Acredito que no Clã Moy Jo Lei Ou também seja assim: Cada um de nós tem um pouco do Kung Fu do Si Fu que continua evoluindo constantemente. Mas um dos discípulos desse Clã, Carlos Antunes "Moy Shan Si". Hoje conhecido como "O Rei do Bastão do Clã Moy Jo Lei Ou", devido a sua habilidade com o "Luk Dim Bun Gwaan". Parece ter assimilado de um jeito bem especial essa ideia.

I remember to understand what Si Fu once said that after  Patriarch Moy Yat passed. The senior members of the Moy Yat Ving Tsun met to decide some points about what would follow. At one point, one would have said that everyone should stay together because There was a bit of Si Taai Gung Moy Yat's Kung Fu  in each of them. And the only way to have the completeness of it, was stay together.
I believe that the Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou also be like this: Each of us has a bit of Si Fu´s Kung Fu  that continues to evolve constantly. But one of the disciples of this clan, Carlos Antunes "Moy Shan Si". Now known as "The King of the Luk Dim Bun Gwaan", due to his ability and understanding. He has incorporated in a very special way this idea.

Si Fu comentou por diversas vezes para mim e outros irmãos Kung Fu , sobre a importância de não impormos nossas vontades e jeito sobre o que acontece ao nosso redor. Mas trabalharmos nossa habilidade de nos ajustarmos ao ambiente, de forma a tirar o melhor proveito possível, ainda que não fosse uma atividade ou realidade que nos agrade.
Carlos Antunes(Foto), assumiu a Direção do Núcleo Barra após a gestão de seu Si hing Thiago Silva no inicio desse ano. Esse processo começou ainda em nosso antigo endereço, e desde aquela época, ficou bem claro que não era algo almejado por Carlos ou uma posição que ele se sentisse bem. Mas não parecia ter mais ninguém para fazê-lo. E corajosamente, Carlos assumiu esse papel.
Me refiro a coragem nesse momento, pois como Si Gung Leo Imamura fala, a coragem e a covardia são circunstanciais e não inerentes.

Si Fu said several times to me and other Kung Fu brothers, about the importance of not impose our will and way about what happens around us. But we work our ability to adjust to the environment in order to make the best of it, although it was not an activity or reality we please.
Carlos Antunes (photo), took the School direction  after his Si hing Thiago Silva at the beginning of this year. This process started still in our old address, and since that time it became clear that it was not something sought by Carlos or a position that he felt good. But it seemed to have no one else to do it. And bravely, Carlos took over this role.
I talk about courage at this point because as Si Gung Leo Imamura speech, courage and cowardice are circumstantial and not inherent.

Carlos Antunes promoveu a mudança de endereço para um local muito mais condizente com o peso de nosso Clã(foto). Uniu irmãos Kung Fu para ajudá-lo nesse processo e organizou ainda mais o Núcleo Barra. Dedicando muito de seu tempo , já que trabalha em outra profissão e é casado, para que o novo Mo Gun fosse construído.

Carlos Antunes promoted the change of address for a much more consistent place with the weight of our Clan (photo). Gathered Kung Fu brothers to help him in this process and further organized the School. Devoting much of his time, since he works in another profession and is married, to the new Gun Mo was built.

E entre lágrimas e momentos felizes, Carlos proporcionou com seu empenho, uma nova casa para nosso Clã. E tudo isso, porque seu Si Fu precisou . Estou frisando isso, porque no meu caso, a direção do Núcleo Méier é a minha profissão. Outros membros do Clã ajudam em seu tempo livre , mas me pergunto quanto tempo aguentaríamos no lugar de Carlos Antunes: Estar numa posição desconfortável para nós, apenas porque somos Dai Ji e porque alguém tinha de fazê-lo.

And between tears and happy moments, Carlos provided with his commitment, a new home for our clan. And all this because his Si Fu needed. I am stressing this because in my case, the direction of  Meier School is my profession. Other Clan members help in their spare time, but I wonder how long we could take it in  Carlos Antunes' place : Being in an uncomfortable position for us, just because we are Dai Ji and because someone had to do it.

Quando praticava o "Jing Choei"(foto) , Componente Associado do Domínio Luk Dim Bun Gwaan. Si Fu costumava me dizer, que se eu me sentisse cansado antes de completar o trajeto que tinha me disposto a cumprir fazendo esse movimento. Eu deveria levantar-me com altivez, e não me desmanchar ou fazer ruídos demonstrando que tinha cansado: "Quem está de fora, não precisa saber do que está por dentro" - Si Fu me disse certa vez.

When I was learning "Jing Choei" (photo), Associate Component of Luk Dim Bun Gwaan Domain. Si Fu used to tell me that if I felt tired before completing the path that I had arranged to get doing this movement. I should get up haughtily, not breaking up or make noises showing that I had fallen: "Who look from Outside do not need to know what's inside" - Si Fu once told me.

E isso também faz de Carlos Antunes o "Rei do Bastão". Porque entre dores e a vontade de parar, ele conseguiu trazer sua gestão até o ponto adequado para passá-la a outro irmão Kung Fu. Com altivez, sem mostrar o que estava por dentro... Como se estivesse fazendo "Jing Choei".
A qualidade de membros do Clã Moy Jo Lei Ou como Carlos Antunes, se deve a coragem de Si Fu(foto), em abrir espaço para que estas pessoas se expressem, mesmo arriscando em alguns momentos a fonte de seu sustento: "...Pereira, só podemos controlar o que é pequeno..." - Me disse Si Fu durante uma conversa.

And it also makes Carlos Antunes the "King of the Gwaan." Because with pain and the will to stop, he managed to bring his management to the appropriate point to pass it to another Kung Fu brother. Haughtily, without showing what was inside ... As if he was making "Jing Choei".

Parece que o Kung Fu de Si Taai Gung Moy Yat, se ramificou ainda mais depois daquela conversa. E hoje podem ser encontradas partes desse Kung Fu em pessoas especiais como Si Fu e Carlos Antunes. Porque "Jing Choei" , esse componente associado do Luk Dim Bun Gwaan, também significa "Soco de Batalha". E realizá-lo de forma a inspirar quem observa , ainda que por dentro estejamos a cada movimento implorando para acabar logo ou nos dizendo para desistir, é algo que só alguém especial pode alcançar. Alguém como Carlos Antunes.

It seems that the Kung Fu of Si Taai Gung Moy Yat, rooted out even more after that conversation more thn a decade ago. And today parts can be found in special people like Si Fu and Carlos Antunes. Because "Jing Choei", this component associated with the Luk Dim Bun Gwaan also means "Battle Punches". And realize it in order to inspire who watches, even if inside're every move begging to end soon or telling us to give up, is something only someone special can achieve. Someone like Carlos Antunes.

Meu sonho em certo momento passou a ser me tornar um "especialista" em Luk Dim Bun Gwaan. 
Meu Mestre Julio Camacho disse certa vez que não é bom ser um "especialista" se for para ficar focado apenas na sua especialidade. 
De todos os domínios do Sistema Ving Tsun, eu considerei este o mais fácil. Isso na época. Minha visão limitada , me impossibilitou de me aprofundar nas outras camadas deste Domínio e o subestimei por anos. 
Curiosamente, o Mui Fa Jong no qual permaneci por cinco anos, parte por escolha própria, parte por questões de destino, me traz uma possibilidade de me aprofundar muito maior.
Com isso, não quero dizer que quanto mais tempo você permanecer num Domínio , melhor será. Apenas que um tempo para amadurecer é importante. Mas de todo o Clã Moy Jo Lei Ou, existia uma pessoa que eu sempre soube que iria se sobressair dentre todos nós quando atingisse esse Domínio onde se usa o bastão. E eu acho, que não estava errado... 

My dream at one point changed to become an "expert" in Luk Dim Bun Gwaan.
My Master Julio Camacho once said that it's not good to be an "expert" if it is to stay focused only on one specialty.
Of all the  of Ving Tsun System Domains, I considered this the easier one. It then. my limited vision did not allowed me to go deeper into the other layers of this domain and so I underestimated it for years.
Interestingly, the Mui Fa Jong where I remained for five years, partly by choice, partly by target issues, brings me a chance to delve much higher.
With this I do not mean that the longer you stay in a domain, the better. Just a time to mature is important. But of the entire Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou, there was a person I always knew that would stand out among all of us when he reached this domain where you use the pole. And I think that I was not wrong ...

Numa noite de Sábado no bairro da Barra da Tijuca na Zona Oeste do Rio de Janeiro. Nosso Clã teve a honra de receber Grão-Mestre Leo Imamura e sua esposa , Sra Vanise Imamura para dirigirem nossa 51º Cerimônia Tradicional. Na qual ocorreriam acessos a todos os Domínios do Sistema além de novas admissões.
Meu Mestre Julio Camacho(foto), estava muito feliz, pois aquela noite era mais um marco em sua brilhante carreira conduzindo pessoas pela estrada desse legado chamado Ving Tsun.
Das mais de uma centena de pessoas presentes no salão daquele hotel naquela noite chuvosa, os caras de Kung Fu prenderam a respiração quando o discípulo número sete do Clã Moy Jo Lei Ou se levantou... Era ele... "Moy Shan Si"...  ou simplesmente , Carlos Antunes...

A Saturday night in Barra da Tijuca neighborhood in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Our Clan was honored to receive the Grand Master Leo Imamura and his wife, Mrs. Vanise Imamura to direct our 51º Traditional Ceremony. In which would occur access to all System Domains and new admissions.
My Master Julio Camacho (photo above), was very happy because that night was another milestone in his brilliant career leading people down the road of this legacy called Ving Tsun.
Of the more than a hundred people in the hall of that hotel that rainy night, the Kung Fu guys held their breath when the disciple number seven of Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou stood up ... was him ... "Moy Shan Si" ... or simply, Carlos Antunes ...

Carlos Antunes (foto) é um dos praticantes mais entregues e dedicados que você poderia conhecer um dia. De fato, Carlos é alguém que passa tanta segurança em sua palavra e suas ações aos que o rodeiam, que chega a ser covardia não conseguirmos fazer o mesmo por ele.
Alguém tão comprometido quanto Carlos Antunes teria , sempre pensei, as características inerentes à alguém capaz de se sobressair neste Domínio que tanto exige daqueles que o adentram.

Carlos Antunes (photo above) is one of the practitioners more commited and dedicated you could meet one day. Indeed, Carlos is someone who has so much security in his words and his actions to those around him, that it's cowardice we can not do the same for him.
Someone as committed as Carlos Antunes , I have always thought,had the characteristics inherent to someone able to excel in this domain that requires both those who step into.

Carlos tomou o bastão em suas mãos (foto), ele o havia guardado atrás das cortinas, e a expressão de espanto de alguns dos presentes, principalmente os "rookies" no Clã foi bem visível. Eu estava lá na frente e podia ver as pessoas se ajeitando para observar melhor, muitas delas pela primeira vez, o bastão usado no Ving Tsun.

Carlos took the pole in his hands (photo), he had kept behind the curtains, and the startled expression of some of those present, especially the "rookies" in the Clan was clearly visible. I was there in front and could see people settling to look better, many for the first time, the pole used in Ving Tsun.

Dizem que quando se dispara o bastão adequadamente , o movimento chamado "Biu Gwaan" corta o ar fazendo um barulho característico. Em todos os disparos de Carlos Antunes naquela noite , ouvimos esse barulho.  Também pude entender enquanto assistia Carlos, o líder do Clã Moy Jo Lei Ou, Mestre Julio Camacho, me disse certa vez sobre as formas do Ving Tsun serem uma espécie de "meditação em movimento". Porque mesmo Carlos Antunes que as vezes reclama de suas perfomances, sem nunca encontrar quem concorde com ele no Clã, não pôde fazê-lo naquele momento. Pois a sequência tão breve e intensa do Luk Din Bum Gwaan, não deixa brechas para devaneios.

People say that when one is thrusting the pole properly, the movement called "Biu Gwaan" cuts the air making a characteristic noise. In all of the moves Carlos Antunes shots that night, we heard the noise. I could also understand while watching Carlos, the leader of Clan Moy Jo Lei Ou, Master Julio Camacho, once told me about Ving Tsun forms are a kind of "moving meditation". Because even Carlos Antunes sometimes complains of his performances, without ever finding anyone who agrees with him in the Clan, he could not do it at that time. Because so brief and intense sequence of Luk Din Bum Gwaan leaves no loopholes for daydreams.

Muitos não entenderam o que de incrível Carlos Antunes nos proporcionou naquele breve momento. Cheguei a ouvir de um de nossos condiscípulos : "Mas é só isso? É pequena a forma né?" -  Fiquei triste por constatar que muitos não entenderam. Mas naquele momento, ao menos para mim foi algo incrível.

Many do not understand what incredible Carlos Antunes provided in that brief moment. I even heard of one of our fellow disciples say: "But just that? It is a short form right?" - I was sad to see that many did not understand. But now, at least for me it was something incredible.

Pelo que conheço de Carlos Antunes, ele não deve achar sua trajetória no Luk Dim Bun Gwaan nada demais. Porém, talvez para ele em alguns momentos, como para todos nós. O que falte de fato é a mente completamente presente que não deixa espaço para críticas, que ele demonstrou ao executar a forma naquela noite. O que esperar de alguém tão incrível assim daqui pra frente?

From what I know of Carlos Antunes, he does not find his path in the Luk Dim Bun Gwaan big deal. But perhaps for him at times, and for all of us. What lacks in fact this is completely mind that leaves no room for criticism, which he demonstrated by running the form that night. What to expect from someone so amazing so from now on?

Uma vez Mestre Julio Camacho(foto) fez uma rápida demonstração no Núcleo Méier com um de seus discípulos . E com movimentos precisos e rápidos, o encurralou num dos cantos da sala sem deixar espaço para que ele reagisse. Assim, ele deixou uma imagem impressa em todos os presentes, sobre o que ele queria dizer. O mesmo discípulo uma semana depois, mesmo após seis anos no Clã me confessou: "Caramba! Si Fu sabe mesmo lutar!" - (risos).
Eu queria fazer uma menção aqui , que a grande diferença dos filmes "O Grande Mestre" para a vida real de Ip Man. É que os filmes o deixaram famoso por conta de sua habilidade em luta nas cenas. E na vida real, Ip man se tornou mais conhecido pela qualidade de seus discípulos. Não importando a área de interesse.
Espero que os presentes naquela noite, entendam a mão de Mestre Julio Camacho segurando e disparando o bastão através de Carlos Antunes...  E isso se repete diariamente através de todos nós.

Once my Master Julio Camacho (photo above) made a brief demosntration at the MYVT Meier School with one of his disciples. And with precise and quick movements, he cornered him in a corner of the room leaving no room for him to react. So he left a printed image on all present, on what he meant. The same disciple a week later, even after six years in the Clan confessed to me: "Wow! Si Fu really knows how to fight!" - (Laughs).
