PANEL ON VING TSUN MEMORIAL DAY WITH OTHER MASTERS

 

Muita gente passou a conhecer o Patriarca Ip Man através dos filmes e nesses filmes, seus grandes feitos estiveram sempre relacionados a prodígios em combate, quando na vida real suas grandes contribuições não poderiam ser alcançadas por muitos dos maiores lutadores. 

Uma delas, é a excelência com a qual transmitia o Sistema Ving Tsun, de uma maneira com a qual mesmo para os anos '50 em Hong Kong, já era difícil de se entender: “...Ip Man não ensina nada e ainda pega o seu dinheiro...” - Alguns diziam. Apesar disso, a qualidade dos discípulos do Patriarca não só era proeminente quanto diversificada. E com cada vez mais discípulos em diferentes funções sociais, foi possível no final da década de '60, que a partir de um Comité formado pelos seus discípulos[Dentre eles o Patriarca Moy Yat], que fosse fundada a Ving Tsun Athletic Association. Importante dizer, que naquele contexto social, esta foi a primeira entidade de artes marciais chinesas autorizada pelo governo britânico que na época tinha Hong Kong como um protetorado.  Esse foi um grande feito, que possibilitou com que outras Famílias Kung Fu lograssem o mesmo. A fundação desse local se deu em 04 de Julho, que passara a ser o dia Memorial do Ving Tsun. 

Many people came to know Patriarch Ip Man through movies and in these movies, his great achievements were always related to prodigies in combat, when in real life his great contributions could not be achieved by many of the greatest fighters.

One of them is the excellence with which he transmitted the Ving Tsun System, in a way that even in the '50s in Hong Kong, it was already difficult to understand: “...Ip Man doesn't teach anything and still takes your money...” - Some said. Despite this, the quality of the Patriarch's disciples was not only prominent but diverse. And with more and more disciples in different social functions, it was possible at the end of the '60s, that from a Committee formed by his disciples [Among them Patriarch Moy Yat], the Ving Tsun Athletic Association was founded. It is important to say that in that social context, this was the first Chinese martial arts entity authorized by the British government, which at the time had Hong Kong as a protectorate. This was a great achievement, which enabled other Kung Fu Families to achieve the same. The foundation of this place took place on July 4th, which became the Ving Tsun Memorial Day.

Tive a oportunidade de sentar-me diante de praticantes de diferentes gerações, entusiastas e pessoas que estão apenas começando sua “Jornada Kung Fu”, em um painel sobre esta data tão especial na Zona Oeste da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. O evento foi sediado pela Família Kung Fu do Mestre Felipe Soares, e ele estava comigo no palco. Além dele, pude compartilhar deste momento com o Mestre Fabio Gomes e o Grão Mestre Leo Imamura. 

Para mim, foi uma oportunidade única por várias razões, mas gostaria de fazer uma referencia a importância profissional para meu portfólio como  profissional de Ving Tsun, ao compartilhar o espaço com estes dignitários do Círculo Marcial. Além disso, o convite para estar ali, tendo em vista que o evento foi transmitido ao vivo e ter condições de discorrer sobre, foi o resultado de muitos anos dedicados a Vida-Kung Fu com meu Si Fu Julio Camacho.

I had the opportunity to sit down in front of practitioners from different generations, enthusiasts and people who are just beginning their “Kung Fu Journey”, in a panel about this very special date in the West Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The event was hosted by Master Felipe Soares's Kung Fu Family, and he was with me on stage. In addition to him, I was able to share this moment with Master Fabio Gomes and Grand Master Leo Imamura.

For me, it was a unique opportunity for several reasons, but I would like to mention the professional importance for my portfolio as a Ving Tsun professional, when sharing the space with these dignitaries of the Martial Arts Circles. In addition, the invitation to be there, considering that the event was broadcast live and being able to talk about it, was the result of many years dedicated to     Kung Fu-Life  with my Si Fu Julio Camacho.

O Painel em si, foi a parte evidente de um evento que começou bem antes, ao menos para mim e meus dois discípulos Daniel e Keith [a direita na foto]. Pois nos foi possível beber um espresso com Si Gung e Si Suk Felipe Soares[a esq. na foto] por quase duas horas. 

Muitos assuntos foram tratados de maneira bem leve naquela mesa, enquanto Si Gung fazia os últimos ajustes na programação. Importante dizer, que o Si Gung estava de férias com sua família, mas abriu espaço na agenda para estar no evento. Uma fala do Si Gung que tem me tocado muito, é quando ele fala que é muito trabalho mesmo e temos que desejar ainda mais trabalho. E que se você não for apaixonado pelo que faz, você não vai aguentar. Ele costuma dizer que muitas vezes a pessoa identifica esse caminho como sua vocação, mas acaba “cansando” ao longo do tempo. Observar ele trabalhar nos slides como se fosse um iniciante que fará sua primeira apresentação, sempre me encanta. Lembro que em 2017 li toda a biografia oficial do Steve Jobs, um dos meus livros favoritos de todos os tempos, e lá ele dizia que qualquer pessoa que não consiga falar sem fazer uso de slide ele deixava a reunião. Eu entendi o ponto dele quando li o livro, mas nunca abri mão dos meus slides em minhas apresentações. De alguma maneira, ajuda a alinhar o pensamento, e mostra a pessoa uma manifestação da energia que você dedicou para aquele momento. 

Este foi mais um grande dia, em um ano desafiador. 

The Panel itself was an evident part of an event that started much earlier, at least for me and my two disciples Daniel and Keith [on the right in the photo]. Because it was possible for us to drink an espresso with Si Gung and Si Suk Felipe Soares [on the left. in the photo] for almost two hours.

Many matters were handled very lightly at that table, while Si Gung made the last adjustments to the schedule. It is important to say that Si Gung was on vacation with his family, but he made room in his schedule to be at the event. A speech by Si Gung that has touched me a lot, is when he says that it's really a lot of work and we have to wish for even more work. And that if you're not passionate about what you do, you won't make it. He often says that people often identify this path as their vocation, but end up “tiring” over time. Watching him work through the slides as if he were a beginner giving his first presentation always delights me. I remember that in 2017 I read the entire official biography of Steve Jobs, one of my favorite books of all time, and there he said that anyone who cannot speak without using a slide would make him leave the meeting. I understood his point when I read the book, but I never relinquished my slides in my presentations. In some way, it helps to align my thoughts, and shows the person a manifestation of the energy you dedicated to that moment.

This was yet another great day in a challenging year.
