With Matheus and Lucas at the Moy Yat Institute: "Mui Fa Jong"

 

Si Gung estava nos EUA, e eu havia trabalhado com Lucas no "Luk Dim Bun Gwan" na noite anterior e também naquela manhã bem cedo, no Instituto Moy Yat. Além disso, havia estado com Lucas na celebração do Ano Novo Chinês, que ocorre anualmente no bairro da Liberdade. Finalmente, estava de pé diante do portão do local onde seria a celebração do Ano Novo do nosso Grande Clã. Em 48 horas tão ricas, entre o final da manhã e o final da tarde, também esteve comigo meu discípulo Matheus Alves, que havia chegado a São Paulo enquanto estávamos na Liberdade. Matheus se aprontou e chegou basicamente junto conosco na residência do Lucas, de onde fomos a pé até o Instituto novamente.

Matheus começou a praticar há nove anos, e Lucas, há dezessete, quando ainda era criança. Andar com ambos até o Instituto foi um momento muito reconfortante, pois gosto muito da paisagem e da ambientação daquelas ruas. Ali acontecia um encontro que, alguns anos atrás, eu não conseguiria imaginar, já que ambos eram o que se pode chamar de "bairristas". Hoje, Lucas já está completamente estabelecido em São Paulo, e Matheus acabou de se mudar também.

Procuro manter a disciplina nas minhas idas a São Paulo, pois, mesmo quando Si Gung não está presente, sempre há trabalho a ser feito. Acredito muito em uma espécie de "mágica", na qual, ao executar uma ação consecutivamente, mesmo sozinho, a cultura se estabelece e acaba misteriosamente atraindo outras pessoas. Estar andando com os dois por aquelas ruas, mesmo que em outro momento parecesse impensável, naquele dia eu sabia que era o resultado de uma cultura que já se estabelecia aos poucos.

Si Gung was in the USA, and I had worked with Lucas on the "Luk Dim Bun Gwan" the previous night and also early that morning at the Moy Yat Institute. Additionally, I had been with Lucas at the Chinese New Year celebration, which takes place annually in the japanese neighbourhood. Finally, I was standing in front of the gate of the location where the New Year celebration of our Grand Clan would take place. In these rich 48 hours, between late morning and late afternoon, my disciple Matheus Alves was also with me, having arrived in São Paulo while we were in Liberdade. Matheus got ready and arrived basically with us at Lucas' residence, from where we walked back to the Institute together.

Matheus started practising nine years ago, and Lucas seventeen, when he was still a child. Walking with both of them to the Institute was a very comforting moment, as I really enjoy the scenery and the atmosphere of those streets. What was happening there was a meeting I could not have imagined a few years ago, as both were what one might call "localists". Today, Lucas is already fully settled in São Paulo, and Matheus has just moved as well.

I make a point of maintaining the discipline of my trips to São Paulo, because even when Si Gung is not present, there is always work to be done. I truly believe in a sort of "magic" where, by repeatedly carrying out an action, even alone, the culture is established and eventually attracts others. Walking with the two of them through those streets, something that at another time would have seemed unthinkable, I knew on that day it was the result of a culture that had already been gradually taking shape.

Posso me lembrar com clareza quando chegamos pela primeira vez com Si Gung no Instituto Moy Yat. Ele foi pessoalmente até a mesa ancestral, em um processo muito formal, para trocar o chá e depois começou a prepará-lo. Também pegou a caixa de fósforos ao perceber que haviam palitos queimados dentro, sentou-se na área de convivência e começou a separar os queimados dos que ainda funcionavam. Ele não nos pediu nada, não nos mandou fazer nada, e simplesmente nos deixou, eu e meus discípulos presentes, observá-lo em silêncio enquanto realizava aquele procedimento, que levou alguns minutos. Como uma grande coincidência, a primeira aula do dia havia sido postergada, e ele pôde, com ainda mais paciência, continuar o processo de separar os fósforos. Nada começaria sem que ele deixasse tudo em ordem, e, mesmo quando nos levantamos e fomos até a mesa novamente, ele compartilhou um pouco sobre cada item e sugeriu algumas possibilidades em relação ao manejo do incenso. Todos nós prestávamos atenção em silêncio. Para mim, aquilo tudo era muito novo. Eu estava tenso, esperando o momento de tomar a frente e fazer no lugar dele, seja arrumando os fósforos ou preparando o chá, mas sentado ali, observando Lucas compartilhar as mesmas coisas com Matheus dois anos depois, foi algo bem especial. Com isso, pude ver o resultado da ação de Si Gung naquela silenciosa manhã, preferindo nos deixar vê-lo fazer a dar um comando. Grande momento.

I clearly remember when we first arrived with Si Gung at the Moy Yat Institute. He personally went to the ancestral table in a very formal process, to change the tea and then began preparing it. He also picked up the matchbox upon noticing that there were burnt matches inside, sat in the communal area, and began separating the burnt ones from the ones that still worked. He didn't ask us for anything, he didn't instruct us to do anything, and simply allowed us, myself and my disciples present, to watch him in silence as he carried out that procedure, which took a few minutes. As a great coincidence, the first lesson of the day had been postponed, and he was able, with even more patience, to continue the process of separating the matches. Nothing would begin until he had everything in order, and even when we stood up and returned to the table, he shared a bit about each item and suggested some possibilities regarding the handling of the incense. We all paid attention in silence. For me, it was all very new. I was tense, waiting for the moment to step forward and take his place, whether it was arranging the matches or preparing the tea, but sitting there, watching Lucas share the same things with Matheus two years later, was quite special. Through this, I was able to witness the result of Si Gung's actions that quiet morning, preferring to let us watch him do it rather than giving a command. A great moment.

Um ano atrás, um irmão Kung Fu sentado comigo à mesa me indagou sobre a razão de eu estar me dedicando aos MPA’s com Si Gung em São Paulo. Eu havia descrito, tão empolgado, um estudo do Nível 6 do Programa Ving Tsun Experience, que, quando percebi, ele me olhava intrigado. Sentado ali, vendo Lucas e Matheus um ano depois estudando o Muk Yan Jong, esta história me ocorreu. Eu havia convidado Matheus a reiniciar seu acesso ao Domínio Mui Fa Jong desde o início, mesmo ele já tendo estudado esse Domínio nos últimos dois anos. Matheus aceitou prontamente. Eu sabia que poderia fazer um trabalho bem melhor do que o que havia feito antes, depois do reestudo que venho empreendendo com Si Gung. É difícil de explicar, mas posso dizer que não tem preço ter uma compreensão clara, fazendo uso do Programa de Salvaguarda, sobre como promover o acesso ao Domínio, considerando em qual fase ou modalidade ele está inserido dentro do Sistema. Eu pensei nesse momento, tendo em vista a presença do Lucas, a ambientação do Instituto, o novo momento de Matheus e muito mais... Foi bonito de ver. E, como sempre, foi também possível perceber como o estudo do Programa Ving Tsun Experience teria ajudado ainda mais Lucas e Matheus, descartando qualquer necessidade de compensar uma falta de entendimento pregresso, sem desrespeitar a natureza do Domínio.

A year ago, a Kung Fu brother sitting with me at the table asked me why I was dedicating myself to the classes with Si Gung in São Paulo. I had described, so enthusiastically, a study from Level 6 of the Ving Tsun Experience Programme, that when I realised it, he was looking at me, intrigued. Sitting there, seeing Lucas and Matheus studying the Muk Yan Jong a year later, this story came to mind. I had invited Matheus to restart his access to the Mui Fa Jong Domain from the beginning, even though he had already studied this Domain over the past two years. Matheus readily accepted. I knew I could do a much better job than I had before, after the re-study I’ve been undertaking with Si Gung. It's hard to explain, but I can say that it is priceless to have a clear understanding, using the Safeguarding Programme, of how to promote access to the Domain, considering which phase or modality it is within the System. I thought about this moment, considering Lucas' presence, the atmosphere of the Institute, Matheus' new stage, and much more... It was beautiful to see. And, as always, it was also possible to realise how much the study of the Ving Tsun Experience Programme would have helped Lucas and Matheus even more, dismissing any need to compensate for a previous lack of understanding, without disrespecting the nature of the Domain.

Por mais que estivesse emendando uma atividade na outra, não estava nem um pouco cansado. Estava fazendo o que gosto. E fazia não só por isso, mas para proporcionar experiências potencialmente significativas para meus discípulos, e essa intenção faz com que o foco na outra pessoa impeça que minha energia se exaure. Tudo isso acaba sendo resultado da convivência com Si Gung e do aprendizado a partir de sua intensa e dedicada rotina. Entendi que aquele padrão de dedicação nunca mais poderia ser ignorado por mim; enquanto estivesse fazendo algo abaixo desse padrão, sempre saberia que poderia oferecer mais aos meus discípulos. Porém, percebi que minha rotina diária, na qual preciso dividir minha atenção com outras demandas, acaba me prejudicando, pois ali, em São Paulo, totalmente dedicado por 48 horas, as coisas estavam fluindo de forma mágica. Fizemos um excelente pós-evento enquanto tomávamos café em nossa padaria favorita, antes de nos prepararmos para a celebração do Ano Novo Chinês no Grande Clã Moy Yat Sang. Então, é muito recompensador ver tantos resultados em tão pouco tempo. O trabalho duro compensa.

Although I was moving from one activity to another, I wasn’t tired at all. I was doing what I love. And I did it not only for that reason but to provide potentially meaningful experiences for my disciples, and this intention means that focusing on the other person prevents my energy from being drained. All of this is a result of living with Si Gung and learning from his intense and dedicated routine. I realised that I could never ignore that level of dedication again; as long as I was performing below that standard, I would always know I could be offering more to my disciples. However, I also noticed that my daily routine, in which I have to divide my attention between other demands, ends up hindering me, as there in São Paulo, fully dedicated for 48 hours, things were flowing magically. We had an excellent post-event while having coffee at our favourite bakery, before preparing for the Chinese New Year celebration at the Grand Clan Moy Yat Sang. So, it’s incredibly rewarding to see so many results in such a short time. Hard work pays off.
