Grand Clan Moy Yat Sang: New Year Celebration in São Paulo

Na última semana, estava andando de carro com o Grão-Mestre Leo Imamura e entramos no assunto sobre o 'Ano Novo Chinês'. Sabendo que o Si Gung estaria presente na celebração que ocorreu ontem em Nova York, comentei sobre a ausência de qualquer evento relacionado a isso no Brasil. Si Gung mencionou que ninguém havia se prontificado, então me ofereci para organizar algo. Sugeri que contássemos com a condução especialíssima do evento por parte da minha Si Taai Vanise Almeida (foto acima, ao centro), e ele achou a ideia excelente. No mesmo dia, a convidei, e ela aceitou com muita animação.

Durante nossa conversa no pré-evento da celebração, ela me questionou sobre alguns pontos, como a razão de eu estar promovendo este evento, por que a celebração do Ano Novo seria interessante para a Família Kung Fu, e qual era o meu entendimento sobre essa celebração, entre outras coisas. Fui respondendo a cada pergunta dela da melhor forma possível, mas depois de tantos anos, percebi que essa oportunidade tinha um grande potencial para reunir a Família Kung Fu de uma maneira diferente. Não se tratava de um jantar após uma cerimônia, nem de um jantar formal de aniversário do Líder da Família Kung Fu, Clã ou Grande Clã, nem de uma simples reunião de amigos. Era uma oportunidade de nos reunirmos pelo prazer de estarmos juntos como Família Kung Fu, com todas as formalidades necessárias, nem mais, nem menos. Si Taai apoiou o projeto desde o primeiro momento, assim como seus filhos, Si Suk Lukas Imamura e Melissa Imamura (foto acima, à esquerda), o que foi fundamental para que tudo se concretizasse.

Last week, I was driving with Grandmaster Leo Imamura, and we began discussing the 'Chinese New Year'. Knowing that Si Gung would be attending the celebration that took place yesterday in New York, I mentioned the absence of any related events in Brazil. Si Gung remarked that no one had volunteered, so I offered to organise something. I suggested we could count on the special leadership of my Si Taai Vanise Almeida (photo above, middle), and he thought the idea was excellent. On the same day, I invited her, and she accepted enthusiastically.

During our conversation at the pre-event of the celebration, she asked me some questions, such as the reason I was promoting this event, why the celebration of the New Year would be interesting for the Kung Fu Family, and what my understanding of the celebration was, among other things. I answered each of her questions to the best of my ability, but after so many years, I realised that this opportunity had great potential to bring the Kung Fu Family together in a different way. It wasn’t about a dinner after a ceremony, nor a formal dinner for the birthday of the Leader of the Kung Fu Family, Clan, or Grand Clan, nor a simple gathering of friends. It was an opportunity for us to come together for the pleasure of being with the Kung Fu Family, with all the necessary formalities, neither more nor less. Si Taai supported the project from the very first moment, as did her children, Si Suk Lukas Imamura and Melissa Imamura (photo above, left), which was crucial for everything to come to fruition.

Eu já tinha em mente o local para a celebração, mas infelizmente ele já havia sido alugado. Cogitei outro restaurante, mas o Mestre Herbert Moraes insistiu que verificássemos o Restaurante Golden Plaza (foto acima), o que se revelou uma decisão muito acertada. O restaurante estava bem vazio, o que nos proporcionou uma atenção incrível do staff, desde o dono até os garçons. A projeção inicial era para talvez 15 pessoas, mas, graças à adesão dos Mestres de São Paulo, que entenderam o potencial desse tipo de reunião, conseguimos reunir 40 pessoas.

Si Taai atravessou o estado com sua filha e genro para estar conosco, sempre com muita boa vontade. Desde o momento em que chegou até a despedida, não mediu esforços para dar a devida atenção a cada mesa, a cada pessoa, a cada criança, a cada pai e mãe presentes, sempre com muita doçura. Ela fez com que os reencontros com praticantes antigos ou que não via há muito tempo fossem momentos realmente especiais. Além disso, conseguiu fazer com que os praticantes e convidados que a conheciam naquele dia se sentissem únicos, graças à sua habilidade de se conectar com os outros.

I already had a venue in mind for the celebration, but unfortunately, it had already been booked. I considered another restaurant, but Master Herbert Moraes insisted that we check out the Golden Plaza Restaurant (photo above), which turned out to be a very wise decision. The restaurant was quite empty, which allowed us to receive incredible attention from the staff, from the owner to the waiters. The initial plan was for perhaps 15 people, but thanks to the participation of the Masters from São Paulo, who understood the potential of this type of gathering, we managed to bring together 40 people.

Si Taai crossed the state with her daughter and son-in-law to be with us, always with great goodwill. From the moment she arrived until the farewell, she spared no effort in giving proper attention to each table, each person, every child, and each parent present, always with great sweetness. She made the reunions with old practitioners, or those she hadn't seen in a long time, truly special moments. Furthermore, she managed to make the practitioners and guests who met her that day feel unique, thanks to her ability to connect with others.

Há um termo que gosto muito, que é 'sangue-novo', e acredito que esse foi um dos grandes diferenciais desta celebração de Ano Novo com a Si Taai. Sabe, deveríamos ter uma tela e uma caixa de som para fazer a transmissão ao vivo das participações dos Líderes da Família Moy Na Tan, do Grão-Mestre Leo Imamura, e para exibir o vídeo de making-of do presente que a Si Taai Po Helen recebeu do Grande Clã Moy Yat Sang, produzido com as habilidades artísticas da Si Taai e a edição de vídeo do Si Suk Washington, que ficou responsável pelo making-of.

Por conta disso, Rafael Kato (foto à direita), To Dai do Mestre Washington, se ofereceu para emprestar sua caixa de som e, devido à sua preocupação de não conseguir chegar antes do horário por estar levando sua família, decidiu me encontrar pela manhã no bairro da Liberdade, onde eu estava com meu discípulo Lucas Eustáquio (foto acima, à esquerda). Lucas, por sua vez, fez uma grande diferença ao me ajudar durante todo o processo de montagem do evento, com destaque para o seu gerenciamento financeiro.

Então, diferentes membros da Décima Segunda Geração em diante, como Fernando da Família do Mestre Paulo Camiz, André da Família do Mestre Celso Grande, Kato da Família do Mestre Washington Fonseca, Welker da Família do Mestre Matsushita para citar apenas alguns, foram esse 'sangue-novo' que trouxe uma energia de bom grado muito presente, graças aos bons exemplos de seus Mestres.

There’s a term I really like, which is 'new blood', and I believe this was one of the key differentiators of this Chinese New Year celebration with Si Taai. You know, we should have had a screen and a speaker to stream the live participation of the Leaders of the Moy Na Tan Family, Grandmaster Leo Imamura, and to show the making-of video of the gift that Si Taai Po Helen received from the Grand Clan Moy Yat Sang, produced with the artistic skills of Si Taai and the video editing by Si Suk Washington, who was responsible for the making-of.

Because of this, Rafael Kato (photo on the right), To Dai of Master Washington, kindly offered to lend us his speaker. Due to his concern about not being able to arrive on time because he was bringing his family, he decided to meet me in the morning in the japanese district, where I was with my disciple Lucas Eustáquio (photo above, on the left). Lucas, in turn, made a huge difference by helping me throughout the entire event setup process, with special mention to his financial management.

Thus, different members from the Twelfth Generation onwards, such as Fernando from Master Paulo Camiz’s Family, André from Master Celso Grande’s Family, Kato from Master Washington Fonseca’s Family, Welker from Master Matsushita’s Family, just to name a few, were the 'new blood' that brought a very present and positive energy, thanks to the good examples set by their Masters.

Além das contribuições desses praticantes da Décima Segunda Geração em diante, dentre os quais me incluo, o evento também contou com o apoio irrestrito de Mestres da Décima Primeira Geração, como a Mestra Maria Cristina (foto acima), que demonstraram grande empenho para garantir que tudo acontecesse da melhor maneira possível. Seja através do ajuste que o Mestre Franklin fez em um compromisso que tinha para viabilizar sua presença, ou da energia que o Mestre Washington e sua esposa Marcia colocaram, fazendo com que sua Família Kung Fu comparecesse em peso. Além disso, contamos com convidados de honra, como o Sensei Ricardo Leite

Besides the contributions of these practitioners from the Twelfth Generation onwards, among whom I include myself, the event also had the unwavering support of Masters from the Eleventh Generation, such as Master Maria Cristina (photo above), who demonstrated great effort to ensure that everything went as smoothly as possible. Whether through the adjustment made by Master Franklin to a prior commitment to enable his presence, or the energy that Master Washington and his wife Marcia put in, ensuring that their Kung Fu Family attended in full force. Additionally, we had honoured guests, such as Sensei Ricardo Leite.

Acredito que a melhor imagem para encerrar este singelo artigo seja a de todos reunidos nas quatro mesas que conseguimos ocupar, em uma celebração onde não faltaram sorrisos e demonstrações de comprometimento. Realmente, a energia estava excelente, e cada liderança estava genuinamente apreciando a oportunidade de estarem juntos. E isso só foi possível graças a uma série de esforços individuais e coletivos para materializar uma celebração tão especial e tão bem participada em tão pouco tempo. Com destaque para Si Taai, que tem nos inspirado através da arte de apreciar os ritos. Feliz Ano da Serpente!

I believe the best image to conclude this humble article is that of everyone gathered around the four tables we managed to occupy, in a celebration filled with smiles and demonstrations of commitment. The energy was truly wonderful, and each leader was genuinely enjoying the opportunity to be together. This was only possible thanks to a series of individual and collective efforts to bring such a special and well-attended celebration to life in such a short time. Special mention goes to Si Taai, who has been inspiring us through the art of valuing rituals. Happy Year of the Snake!
