TWO NEW LIFETIME MEMBERS ON MOY JO LEI OU FAMILY

Apesar de ser nascido e criado no Rio, eu adoro andar em shopping. Geralmente eu acabo comprando um livro ou DVD, mas ainda que não compre nada, é algo que realmente gosto de fazer. Antigamente eu não gostava muito de passear no Madureira Shopping, porque mal você chegava na vitrine, os vendedores saltavam sobre você como ninjas querendo vender algo. Hoje já não é mais assim....

Por isso, naquela noite de Quinta, enquanto me encaminhava para o Restaurante Benkei na companhia de meus dois queridos irmãos Kung Fu Gui Farias e Fabiosa, meu prazer era triplo: Primeiro por estar com eles, segundo porque era dentro do shopping e terceiro, porque seria o jantar de convite para “Baai Si” de outro irmão Kung Fu chamado Glauco Gavioli.

Even living in Rio since I was a child, I love to spend time walking in Shopping Centers. Usually I buy some DVD or book, but even if I dont buy anything, its something that I really like to do! 
Some years ago, I did not to like to walk in Madureira Shopping Center (North Zone of Rio). 
Thats because if you get any close of a store, some employee of the store would jump on you asking if you wanna “see something” like ninjas! But today is not this way anymore.

Thats why , at that night of Thursday, while I was walking to the Benkei Restaurant with my two kung fu Brothers Guilherme de Farias and Fabiosa, my pleasure was triplet: First of all, I was with them, second, because we were going to a Mall, and second because It was the night when Glauco Gavioli would be invited oficially to be a disciple.

Si Fu inaugurou um novo formato, se pode se dizer assim, de convite para a Cerimônia de Baai Si. Ele é dividido em três momentos distintos, onde o primeiro é a formalização do convite. O segundo é a Cerimônia em si, e o terceiro é o recebimento do “Nome Kung Fu”, que se dá na casa do Si Fu.
Esta primeira etapa, é a que iriamos experimentar naquela noite. Si Fu sugere ao aspirante a discípulo , que tenha-se à mesa minimamente discípulos (a fim de gerar peso ao momento) e convidados do praticante. Um desses convidados segundo Si Fu, é interessante que seja alguém de fora do Círculo Marcial. Esta pessoa vai representar o reconhecimento da sociedade do momento em questão.
Quando chegamos, as mesas já tinham sido organizadas por Pedro Ivo Sampaio “Moy Yi Woh”, o discípulo que teve em seu Baai Si a inauguração desse processo. Assim que chegamos, procuramos pensar nos melhores locais para cada membro que viria sentar. Afinal, como dito há pouco tempo aqui no Blog, a mesa no Circulo Marcial Chinês também é um local para se trabalhar a atenção cuidadosa.

Si Fu inaugurated a new format, you can say so,for the invitation to the ceremony of Baai Si.
 It is divided now into three distinct phases, where the first is the formal invitation. The second is the ceremony itself, and the third is receiving the "Kung Fu Name", which is given at Si Fu’s house. 
This first phase was what we would experience that night. Si Fu suggests to the aspiring disciple, to invite some disciples to attend the dinner (in order to make  the date remarkable). One of those invited second Si Fu, it is interesting to be someone outside Martial Circles. This person will represent the recognition of the moment by the ordinary society. 
When we arrived, the tables had already been organized by Pedro Ivo Sampaio "Moy Yi Woh", the disciple who had his Baai Si in the inauguration of this process. Once we arrived, we tried to think of the best chairs for each member who would sit. After all, as said shortly here on the Blog, the table in the Chinese Martial Circle is also a place to work careful attention.

Glauco chegou num traje bem alinhado, porém seu semblante sempre feliz, naquele dia tinha dado lugar ao de alguém preocupado. Vi Glauco passando pela janela olhando pra dentro do restaurante, ele realmente estava mais branco do que o normal. Vendo aquilo , assim que Glauco entrou fui para dar um abraço nele e falar alguma coisa engraçada como sempre fazemos. Mas desta vez ele seriamente me deu apenas um “Oi, Si hing”.
Glauco convidou a pessoa que considera sua melhor amiga Crician Ullman que conheceu na faculdade.
Si fu chegou e após cumprimentos começamos a pedir a comida. Glauco foi relaxando aos poucos, mas sempre voltava a ficar tenso quando um dos garçons mais solícitos que já vi, sempre interrompia suas palavras ou de Si Fu. Ele era tão solicito que acabava atrapalhando..rs

Glauco arrived in a well-lined outfit, but his face always happy, that day had given way to anyone concerned. I saw Glauco coming through the glass window looking in the restaurant, he was actually whiter than normal. Seeing this, I welcomed Glauco to give him a hug and talk something funny like we always do. But this time he seriously said to me just a "Hi, Si hing." 
Glauco invited the person who considers his best friend , Crician Ullman, who met each other for the very first time in college. 
Si fu arrived and after greetings started to order the food. Glauco was gradually relaxed, but always came back to tense when one of the most solicitous waiters I've ever seen, always interrupted his words or Si Fu’s. So , this waiter was messing around trying to help.

Si Fu pediu que os discípulos presentes, falassem um pouco sobre como haviam sido suas histórias de Baai Si até ali.  E foi muito bacana relembrar vários momentos através das palavras principalmente de Thiago Silva e Guilherme, que acompanhei bem de perto.
Si Fu então tomou a palavra, e a amiga de Glauco que até ali tentava acompanhar os termos e nomes ditos, chegou a se emocionar literalmente. Eu sempre me impressiono com a habilidade do Si Fu em se relacionar.  Não sei como ele faz fora da Família, a bem verdade, tive poucas chances de acompanhar. Mas dentro do Circulo Marcial ele o faz com Mestria. E por isso, acredito que não foi a toa que a menina marejou os olhos.
Finalmente Glauco comentou um pouco sobre o que aquele momento estava significando para ele.  E de forma bem tocante, Glauco presenteou Si Fu com algo surpreendente: Era a foto na qual Si Fu abraça nosso irmão Kung Fu Pedro Correa em seu aniversário de 2013 após Pedro dizer algumas palavras sobre ele.
Si Fu achou aquele presente muito curioso, e comentou com Glauco, de maneira sutil, que seria interessante poder ter uma foto com essa qualidade e esse espírito de cada discípulo.

Si Fu asked the disciples present,to  talk a little about their stories of Baai Si . And it was very nice to recall various moments through words mostly by Thiago Silva and Guilherme, who I followed closely. 
Si Fu then took the words, and Glauco’s friend,  tried hard to follow the terms and names in chinese. But this time, when Si Fu started to talk, she started to cry, finally understanding the meaning of that moment. Si Fu always impressed me with the ability to relate to other people. Do not know how he does outside the family, and the fact I had a few chances to follow. But within the Martial Circles he does it with Mastery. And so, I believe it was no wonder that the girl hád tears in her eyes. 
Finally Glauco commented a bit about what that moment was meaning to him. And he gave a touchingly gift,  something surprising: It was a picture in which Si Fu  embraces our Kung Fu Brother Pedro Correa during Si Fu’s latest birthday after Pedro had said a few words about him. 
Si Fu found that this very curious, and said to Glauco, in a subtle way, it would be interesting to have a picture with this quality and this spirit of each pupil. 

We said goodbye and finally Glauco confessed nervousness had passed ... lol

O segundo convite:

The Second Invitation:

Isso foi o mesmo que Glauco disse a André Almeida, seu Si hing, uma semana depois, na porta do restaurante Konomi-Ai, quando Si fu saiu com o carro, e André parecia mais relaxado. Porém esta história começou bem antes:
Eu estava indo com meu carro em direção ao Recreio, local onde fica esse restaurante. É uma região com transito muito intenso, e num determinado momento pensei no André. Fiquei imaginando porque ele havia escolhido aquele local. Pois André mora no interior de outro município, e o jantar estava marcado para as 19h.
André como sempre, estaria de ônibus, pois ainda não possui um carro.
Pensar sobre isso me deixou bem admirado, e refleti a respeito do exemplo que André é, quando muitas vezes vemos alguém morar tão próximo do Mo Gun, e aproveitar bem menos do que ele que mora tão distante.

This was the same Glauco told  to his Si Hing André Almeida, a week later, in front of the door of the restaurant Konomi-Ai when Si fu went away with his car, and Andre seemed more relaxed. But this story started well before:
I was going with my car toward the West Zone, where is this restaurant. It is a region with very heavy traffic, and at one time thought of André. I wondered why he had chosen that location. For André , who lives in another city, and the dinner was scheduled for 19h.
Andre as always, would go by bus, as he did not own a car.
Thinking about this made me well admired, and reflect about the example that André gives to everybody when we often see someone living so close to the Mo Gun, and enjoy far less than he who lives so far away.

Estacionei o carro, e passei pelas mesinhas que ficam na área externa do restaurante. Atravessando uma porta de vidro, passei também pelo balcão onde o sushiman faz sua mágica ao meu lado direito. E lá no fundo subi uma escadinha que me levou até o Segundo andar. Estava vazio, se não fosse pela presença de André, seu amigo Frances , e do meu condiscípulo Luciano Freitas “Moy Lo Key”, não haveria mais ninguém.
Sentei com eles, e André parecia nervoso para pedir a comida. Perguntei pelo Si Fu. André disse que ele estava ciente de que era no segundo andar, mas 2 minutos depois, por via das duvidas resolvi ligar e ele estava dentro de seu carro lá embaixo nos procurando.
Si Fu subiu e logo depois chegou Fabiosa, meu irmão Kung Fu mais novo e membro do Núcleo Méier.
Si Fu fez alguns comentários para André sobre pedir a comida , ou melhor: Saber fazer o pedido. Estavamos em um restaurante japonês, e como é de praxe, a comanda vem com o nome dos alimentos também em japonês.  Si Fu pediu que eu fizesse a comanda e que André prestasse atenção para que nas próximas ele o fizesse.

I parked the car and went trough the tables that are in the outdoor area of the restaurant. Going through a glass door, also passed the balcony where the sushi chef works his magic on my right side. And deep down I went upstairs that took me to the second floor. It Was empty, if not for the presence of Andre, his friend Frances, and our KF Brother Luciano Freitas "Moy Lo Key", there would be no one else. 
I sat with them, and Andre seemed nervous to order the food. I Asked about Si Fu. Andre said he was aware that we were on the second floor, but two minutes later, just in case I decided to call and he was inside his car down there looking for us. 
Si Fu went upstairs and soon after arrived Fabiosa, my younger Kung Fu Brother and a member of the MYVT Meier School . 
Si Fu made some comments about how to ask food to André, or better: Knowing ordering. We were at a Japanese restaurant, and as usual, the commands comes with the name of the food also in Japanese. Si Fu asked me to do the commands and in the next turn would be Andre. So he should paid attention to what I was doing.

Si Fu parecia bem feliz e relaxado, estava bem próximo de sua casa. Ele até tinha um compromisso importante depois, mas ao ver que Thiago Silva, outro discípulo iria demorar, Si Fu não pestanejou em adiar o outro compromisso para se dedicar apenas a nós.
Enquanto Thiago não chegava, Si Fu começou falando sobre sua promoção para a categoria de Mestre Senior, e que ela permitiria com que ele autorizasse membros da Familia Moy Jo Lei Ou a serem titulados como Mestres Qualificados.   Por isso, Si Fu também falou da importância que este momento representava para nossa Família e nosso Clã, e isso o levou a expressar um importante desejo à mesa...
Todos pareceram ser pegos de surpresa, inclusive eu , porém Luciano não. Aquilo me chamou a atenção.
Finalmente chegou Glauco Gavioli, aquele que havia sido convidado uma semana antes. Como sempre, Glauco chegou brincando com todo mundo. Afinal, estava bem mais relaxado do que na semana anterior.

Si Fu seemed very happy and relaxed. He was very close to his house. He even had an important commitment after, but to see that Thiago Silva, another disciple would  be late,Si Fu did not hesitate to postpone the other commitment to devote himself just to us. 
While Thiago was not there,Si Fu began talking about his promotion to the rank of Senior Master, and how it would allow him to authorize members of the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family as Qualified Masters. Therefore, Si Fu also spoke of the importance that this moment represented to our family and our Clan, and this led him to express an important desire at the table ... 
Everyone seemed to be caught by surprise, including me, but not Luciano. That caught my attention. 
Finally arrived Glauco Gavioli, who had been invited for Baai Si a week before. As always, Glauco arrived joking with everybody. After all, He was more relaxed than the previous week.

Thiago Silva “Moy Chi Yau Si”  finalmente chegou, e Si Fu pôde dar inicio ao convite formal para André .
Foi um momento bem marcante para todos, para mim foi muito. Olhar para o André e perceber que ele estava elegante em seu traje, foi entender que algo havia mudado nele. Do garoto timido de Coelho da Rocha com casacos da banda Slayer ou algo que o valha, a um praticante que tem mais atenção a detalhes cotidianos, como qual a melhor roupa para usar.
Todos falaram muito bem de André, inclusive Si Fu. André estava emocionado, mas não chegou a chorar...chorar...
A questão, é que aquele momento, onde você escuta todos falarem bem de você e do quanto você progrediu, não pode nunca ser confundido. Para André, essa jornada como “Dai Ji” estava apenas começando.

Thiago Silva "Moy Chi Yau Si" has finally arrived, and Si Fu could initiate the formal invitation to Andre. 
It was a very memorable moment for everyone, for me it was for sure. Look for Andre and realize he was elegant in his costume, I was able to understand that something had changed in him. The shy boy from the countryside  with coats of the rock band Slayer or something of that sort, became a practitioner who has more attention to everyday details, like what is the best clothes to wear. 
Everyone spoke highly of Andre, including Si Fu. Andre was thrilled, but did not cry ...  ... 
It was that moment where you hear all brothers speak well of you and how much you have progressed. But you should never be mistaken. For Andre, this journey as "Dai Ji" was just beginning.

Fabiosa fala um pouco sobre o que significou aquele convite para ele.

O jantar prosseguiu com muita comida gostosa a mesa. Bem diferente da outra vez que lá estivemos. Si Fu aproveitou para expressar um outro desejo naquela noite. O de que Fabiosa, como é carinhosamente conhecido o Si Dai Fabio Sá, se tornasse seu discípulo.
Fabio deve ter ficado bem tocado, porque ele não tirou o sorriso do rosto, e curiosamente, ele que havia falado de que André fala muito baixinho e as vezes pra dentro, não percebeu o quão alta sua voz ficou ao falar sobre o que aquele “pré-convite” significava. Si Fu pediu que ele falasse mais baixo. Sua voz sobrepôs até mesmo o barulho irritante do Nintendo 3DS do menino na mesa ao lado.

The dinner was a very tasty food. Very different from the other time we were there. 
Si Fu took the opportunity to express na another desire at that night. To Invite “Fabiosa” as we call our dear, Si Dai Fabio Sá, to became his disciple. 
Fabio must have been well played, because he did not take the smile off his face, and interestingly, that he had spoken that André speaks very softly and sometimes  very low, but he did not realize how high his voice was.
. Si Fu invited him to speak lower. His voice overrode even the annoying noise of the Nintendo 3DS  of a boy at the next table.

Eu então estava na porta do Konomi-Ai com Luciano “Lucky” “Moy Lo Key” Freitas, nos despedindo de Si Fu, quando André apareceu com um sorriso no rosto.  André as vezes fica com um sorriso aberto por algo que já passou por mais de um minuto, geralmente nesses momentos, ele lembra que esqueceu de alguma coisa “Ih! É!” é o que ele sempre fala. Desta vez não foi diferente: Si Fu lhe perguntou se ele não entregaria nenhum Hung Baau. Uma pergunta que usualmente não se faz, mas que o cenário e o contexto permitiam. Ou simplesmente a relação Si Fu-To Dai. Tanto é que Si Fu perguntou já com aquele sorrisinho.
André respondeu que esqueceu lá em cima, e subiu correndo até sua mochila. Si Fu entrou em seu carro, ligou, e perguntou rindo para mim: “Na condição de Si Fu. Você esperaria ele?” . Eu demorei a responder mas disse que não (rindo também). Si Fu então comentou rindo: “Bom, agora já era!” . E lá vinha André em disparada conseguindo entregar o Hung Baau referente ao seu convite para Baai Si.
Todos já estavam na porta, a conta já estava paga. Rimos dos melhores momentos , depois dois dos presentes, incluindo Fabiosa , foram parabenizados. E Glauco ficou brincando com André sobre ele já estar aparentando mais relaxamento. Todos riram.

Eu já presenciei alguns momentos de Convite, de recusa, de sumiço após o convite aceito. Mas naquela noite eu vi

I then stood in the doorway of Konomi-Ai with Luciano "Lucky" "Moy Lo Key" Freitas, saying goodbye to Si Fu, when Andre showed up with a smile on his face. André sometimes gets a grin for something that has gone through more than a minute, usually in those moments, he remembers that he forgot something This time was no different: Si Fu asked him if he would not give any Hung Baau. 
A question that usually we should not do, but the moment and the context allowed. Or simply the relashionship Si Fu Dai-To. So much so that Si Fu already asked smiling. 
Andre answered that he forgot upstairs, and ran until his bag. Si Fu got into his car, he called and asked me laughing: "As the Si Fu. Would you wait for him? ". It took me some seconds to answer but said “no” (laughing too).
Si Fu then said laughing: "Well, now it's gone." And there came André with the Hung Baau in his hand. 
Everyone was already at the door, the bill was already paid. Laugh of the best moments, then two of those present, including Fabiosa, were congratulated. And Glauco was playing with Andre about he already be looking more relaxed. Everyone laughed. 

I have witnessed some moments of invitation, refusal, after the disappearance of accepted invitation. But that night I saw

ESPECIAL: O QUE É O BAAI SI? (SPECIAL: WHAT IS BAAI SI?)

Meu avô trabalhava em obras e passava o dia bebendo litros e mais litros de café frio nos inesquecíveis copos de geléia Embasa..rs Atualmente eu sempre vejo o meu Si Fu bebendo café seja ao fim de um almoço ou no café-da-manhã, mas infelizmente nunca consegui acompanhar nem meu avô nem o Si Fu nisso. Meu irmão Kung Fu Carlos Antunes(Moy Shan Si) não, ele consegue tomar o amargo líquido tão presente no Porto de Santos junto de nosso Si Fu, quando este abre mão de um copo de chá vez ou outra para tomar café.

My grandpa used to drink a lot of cofee during his work in urban constructions. Nowadays I always see my Si Fu drinking some cofee after lunch or during Yam Cha. I could not follow my grandpa and now I ´m not able to follow Si Fu 'cause I dont like the taste of it. My Si Dai Carlos Antunes (12G VT) drinks coffee with Si Fu everytime. He is a good pupil..hehe

Porém, o tão aclamado café no ocidente, perde a vez para o chá quando o assunto é China.
E o hábito de tomar ou servir chá, vai muito além do simples ato de beber ou de gostar.

But when we are talking about China , the tea takes coffe´s place as the most wanted one.

And drinking tea is more than just like the taste of it. This drink has a cultural and social value.

Muitas vezes se você é uma criança e seus pais estão chateados com vocês, ao servi-lhes uma xícara de chá sem motivo aparente, você está indiretamente pedindo desculpas.Ou quando você já nao é mais criança e deixa a casa de seus pais, quando se encontram, a primeira coisa que fazem é tomar chá.Ou se você está casando, em sua Cerimônia, você e seu companheiro servem chá para seus pais como forma de dizer "obrigado".

Mas existe uma Cerimônia mais forte do que todos estes costumes ...

If you are a child and you did something wrong to your parents, you can serve them tea as a way to say "sorry".* (*If Tracy Chapman were chinese she would talk about tea in her song "Sorry") .

If you are getting married , you and your partner will serve tea to your parents as a way to say "Thanks".

But there is a strongest ceremony envolving tea than all those ones...

Desde muito tempo, eu sempre ouvia meu Si Fu Julio Camacho falar numa cena de filme, onde um Mestre de Ving Tsun não queria aceitar um rapaz como discípulo e os amigos faziam todo um esquema para que o Mestre caísse sentado em sua cadeira e tomasse o chá, sendo obrigado a tal.

Bom devo dizer, que depois de anos, dois meses atrás achei a tal cena, e agora mostro ela a vocês que ainda não conheciam:

Since long time ago, I heard my Si Fu Julio Camacho(11G VT) talking about a movie scene where the guy wants to become a pupil of a Ving Tsun master, but this master does not want it. So he and his friends make the master gets sit and drink the tea.

Now I found this scene. If you dont have time or patience(even if Axl Rose ask you for it) go to 3:27 s and watch the sequence.

A cena acima pertence ao divertido filme "WARRIORS TWO", que conta a história de Leung Jaan e seu discípulo Chan Wah Shun (Jau Chin Wah).
Leung Jaan tem um grupo de alunos, e um deles, interpretado pelo onipresente Sammo Hung, é amigo de Chan Wah Shun. Quando Chan Wah Shun descobre um esquema de seu patrão, sua mãe é assassinada em represália. Vendo que as habilidades de seu amigo não eram suficientes,o personagem de Sammo Hung resolve pedir que Leung Jaan aceite Chan wah Shun como discipulo.Mas quando este recusa, eles armam todo um teatro até que o velho Mestre aceite participar da Cerimônia de Baai Si com Chan Wah Shun recebendo-o como discípulo.

The scene above is from "WARRIOS TWO", that tells us the story about the meeting between Leung Jaan and Chan Wah Shun(Jau Chin Wah).

Leung Jaan does not want to take Jau Chin Wah as a pupil, Jau chin Wah´s friend played by Sammo Hung is worried about Jau Chin Wah´s life 'cause some thieves wants to get him. So he asks to his Si Fu Leung Jaan to accept him. As the answer was "no" , the character of Sammo had a plan to convince Leung Jaan to do de Baai Si with Jau Chin wah.

O que acontece é que na cultura das artes marciais chinesas existe um momento onde o aluno de joelhos oferta chá ao seu Si Fu numa Cerimônia chamada "BAAI SI"(拜師)

What happens is that in chinese martial arts, there is a Ceremony called "BAAI SI "(拜師) .When a student on his knees offers some tea to his Si Fu. And after he drink it, the student becomes is pupil forever.

拜 Baai - Siginifica literalmente "fazer reverência" (means "to bow")

師 Si - é o mesmo "Si" de "Si Fu" ou "Si Hing" . Que pode significar "especialista em algo" nesse caso um "Mestre". (is the same "Si" of "Si Fu" or "Si Hing". What could means a "Specialist" but in this case a "Master").

Assim, "Baai Si"(拜師) significa "reverenciar o Mestre". Ou seja, fazer o "Kau Tau"(KowTow) [磕頭]
 So "Baai Si"(拜師) means something like "Bow to a master". I mean, do the "Kau Tau"(Kowtow) [磕頭]

(Si Sok Paulo Oliveira, também conhecido carinhosamente como "Paulinho". Foi quem diretamente cuidou de mim com muita paciência e perseverança(rs) durante o meu Siu Nim Tau. Nesta foto , Si Sok Paulo faz o Kau Tau diante do Si Fu de seu Si Fu, Grão-Mestre Moy Yat.
Este ato denota outra particularidade do Baai Si: Se você o fizer com seu Si Gung por orientação de seu Si Fu ou por questõs do acaso, você continua discípulo de seu Si Fu.
Sabe, é como se o seu avô o registrasse no cartório. Você continua sendo filho do seu pai mesmo assim. Por isso quando fazemos Baai Si, passamos a ser discipulos de segunda geração de nosso Si Gung e de primeira geração de nosso Si Fu. )

 (Si Sok Paulo Oliveira(11G VT) also known as "Paulinho"(little Paul). Was the person who taught me the Siu Nim Tau directly 'cause he is my Si Fu´s Si Dai. So, I´m very grateful to him.

He does in this photo the "KauTau" in front of Si Taai Gung Moy Yat in São Paulo(Saint Paolo) State during a Baai Si ceremony. So that is another characteristic of the Baai Si. You also can do this with your Si Gung. That has no problem. It is also a way for a Si Fu to show respect when he asks for his student to do the Baai Si not with him, but with his own Si Fu. You can also do the Baai Si with your Si Fu and with your Si Gung in the same Ceremony. Or, you can do the Baai Si with your Si Fu and later with your Si Gung when he goes to your Mo Gun. 

So, you are a second generation disciple of your Si Gung and first generation disciple of your Si Fu)

O termo Kau Tau 磕頭 significa literalmente "tocar a cabeça".
Kau Tau 磕頭 means literally "touch the head"

磕 Kau - seria algo como "colidir" , "bater em algo"(would be something like "to colid" , "knock on".)
頭 Tau - é o mesmo ideograma de Siu Nim Tau, e significa "cabeça".(And this character is the same of Siu Nim Tau. And it means "head")

Quando você faz o Kau tau, você toca o chão com sua testa, suas duas mãos e seus dois joelhos. Não há símbolo maior de reverência do que o "Kau Tau". Ele também é usado como desejo de desculpas e respeito extremo a alguém.

When you do the Kau Tau 磕頭 , you touch the floor with your two hand, your two knees and your forehead. This is the ultimate symbol of reverence. It also works to show extreme respect or to say "really sorry".

O Si Gung de Leung Bik diz algo como:
"Eu sou o Si Fu de seu pai, não é adequado você me chamar de 'Si Fu' , vou apenas lhe ensinar Ving Tsun em seu lugar.Me chame de 'Si Gung'".

Leung Bik´s Si Gung say something like:

"I´m your father´s Si Fu. That is not good for you call me Si Fu. I´m gonna just teach you Ving Tsun in your father´s place. So call me Si Gung."

Isso acontece, pois é comum quando o chá é servido, você dizer ao oferecer: "SI FU!"(師父!)
Porque a grosso modo, você só poderia chamar um Mestre de Si Fu neste momento, quando ele o considera um discípulo legitimo, e quando você o considera seu Si Fu.
Outra coisa que também é dita é: "SI FU HE CHA!" (師父喝茶!) literalmente : "Si Fu, beba chá!"

That happens 'cause its common when you give tea to your Si Fu in Baai Si you say : "SI FU!"(師父!)
'Cause in fact, you could just call someone as Si Fu, when he let you do this. When you are a really pupil of someone.
Another thing to say could be: "SI FU HE CHA!(師父喝茶!) literally "SI FU DRINK SOME TEA!"

Observe o Jing Tong de nosso Mo Gun: A cadeira da esquerda, é reservada ao nosso Si Fu, Julio Camacho. E a cadeira da direita é reservada a nosso Si Gung, Leo Imamura. Repare na cena acima, a cadeira em que Sammo Hung está sentado. Observe que a cadeira da esquerda está reservada a Leung Jaan que não está presente.

Take a look on our Mo Gun´s Jing Tong . The left chair is just for our Si Fu Julio Camacho(11G VT). and the right chair is just for our Si Gung Leo Imamura(10G VT). So, during the scene above, you saw Sammo Hung(the Si Gung) sat in what chair? Observe that the left chair is empty 'cause that is Leung Jaan´s chair.

Acima vemos o momento em que eu mesmo realizo o Kau Tau diante de meu Si Fu e Si Mo, mas principalmente da foto de Grão-Mestre Moy Yat, como símbolo desse vínculo com quem veio antes.
In this photo you see me doing the "KauTau" in front of my Si Fu and Si Mo, but principally in front of Si Taai Gung Moy Yat´s photo. As a way to create a link to people who came first.

Esta foi uma Cerimônia muito bonita realizada no salão de um hotel próximo ao Mo Gun. Mas o Baai Si pode ser em qualquer lugar ou em qualquer momento dependendo apenas da vontade do aspirante a discípulo e do aceite do Si Fu.

This was a great and very beautiful Ceremony in a hotel in front of the beach near our Mo Gun. But the Baai Si happens in any place in any time, just depending on Si Fu´s and Student´s wish and will.

Na cena abaixo da novela WING CHUN de 2007, vemos que durante o casamento do filho mais novo de Leung Jaan, Leung Chun. Leung Bik(filho mais velho de Leung Jaan) convence seu pai a aceitar finalmente Chan Wah Shun(futuro Mestre de Ip Man) a ser seu discípulo.
Chan Wah Shun se apressa em fazer o Kau Tau, mas Leung Bik já atuando como Si Hing..rs O lembra de buscar chá.

Na continuação da cena, vemos Chan Wah Shun (Jau Chin Wah) fazendo o Baai Si com Leung Jaan. O casamento inteiro pára.
Observe que Leung Jaan entrega um HUNG BAO para Chan Wah Shun após beber o chá.

In the follow sequence, we see Chan wah Shun(Jau Chin Wah) doing the Baai Si with Leung Jaan. The entire wedding ceremony stops.

Geralmente o Si Fu dá um presente para o discípulo que chega. No caso das pessoas que realizaram o Baai Si comigo, todas ganharam um carimbo com seu "Nome kung fu" eu e Thiago Silva fomos convidados quando Si Fu já havia voltado da China. Para mim ele disse:

" Quando eu te convidei pro Baai Si já tinha voltado da China e não tinha mais como dar um carimbo pra você. Mas eu queria que fosse algo tão especial quanto. Então eu te dei isso: É uma lembrança da festa de 60 anos de Si Taai Gung Moy Yat."

Si Fu se referia a uma colher chinesa para sopas, feita em porcelana com a flor de ameixa pintada dentro dela, e um número "60" no meio desta flor.

Its very common when the Si Fu gave some gift to his new disciple after drink the tea.

 My Si Fu said to me:

"When I invite you for the Baai Si, I was already back from China. So I could not give to you a chinese stamp. But I was wondering form something also special to give to you. So I gave you this: A gift from Si Taai Gung Moy yat´s 60 years old."

Em 1999 (foto) quando comecei no Ving Tsun, eu imaginei que quando me tornasse Mestre, começaria a treinar Kendo(pois sempre gostei muito de espadas.Olha isso!). E aí eu pensei que mesmo não gostando, talvez eu treinasse um pouquinho de Jiu-Jitsu pra saber lutar no chão.

In 1999(photo) I was 15 years old, and I was wondering tha when I become a Ving Tsun Master , I would go for kendo('cause I always loves Samurai .. Look at this!hehe) and so I thougjt: "You know man, I think that I´m going for some Jiu Jitsu too to learn about floor."

Uma vez porém,mesmo já tendo desistido dessas idéias há muito tempo, Si Fu conversou comigo meses antes do Baai Si, e disse:

"Pereira, você pode treinar o que quiser quando quiser. Se possível eu gostaria apenas de saber(risos). Mas é importante você entender que depois do Baai Si você vai ter apenas um Si Fu pra sempre. Mesmo que você treine outra coisa, Mestre você só vai ter um."

But one time , after I left those childhood ideas behind me, Si Fu said to me months before my Baai Si:

"Pereira, you can  train what you want. I would just be happy if you let me know before(laughs). But seriously: After Baai Si, you will just have one Si Fu forever. Even trainning something else, you will just be able to call one person as Si Fu. Master you will have just one after Baai Si."

Na cultura das artes marciais chinesas, não é bem visto você treinar mais de uma modalidade. Quando você faz isso, você pode estar querendo dizer muitas coisas. Desde que o que seu Si Fu lhe ensina não é o suficiente ou até mesmo que você próprio não foi capaz de extrair tudo do que você treina.
Você pode estar inclusive chamando seu estilo de "Incompleto". Mas claro, isso dentro do "Pensamento Clássico Chinês" (não sejamos ortodoxos). Mas pelo menos para mim, com relação a só ter um Si Fu eu levo a sério. Ainda que futuramente , ainda que duvide disso, eu fosse treinar outra coisa.

In chinese martial arts culture, its not well seen when someone train more than one art. When you do that you could say many different things. For example, that what your Si Fu teaches is not good enough. But this kind of tought is part of a "Classical Chinese Way". But for me, about has only one Si Fu, I take it very seriously.

HOI KUEN(開拳)

(Si Gung Leo Imamura(10G VT) shows the first part of Siu Nim Tau for some practitioners that were getting into his Family. This act calls "HOI KUEN")

開 Hoi - significa "abrir" (means "to open")
拳 Kuen - é o mesmo de "VING TSUN KUEN" e significa "punho" mas podemos considerar como "arte marcial". (Is the same of ving tsun KUEN and that means "fist" but we can also translated as "martial art")

Hoi Kuen(開拳) é o ato no qual o Si Fu "abre a arte marcial" para seu novo To Dai.O Hoi Kuen(開拳) é simbolizado pela demonstração da primeira parte do Siu Nim Tau pelo Mestre ao novo praticante.

When Hoi Kuen(開拳) is the acto where the Si Fu "opens his martial art" for his new student. The Hoi Kuen(開拳)is simbolized by demonstrating the first part of Siu Nim Tau.


Antes, o praticante já iniciava na Família Kung Fu fazendo o "Baai Si" direto e se tornando membro vitalício daquela Família. O Hoi Kuen já estava inserido neste mesmo momento ou em outro mais tarde. Porém sendo o Baai Si uma Cerimônia com tão grande responsabilidade ele surge apenas mais tarde hoje em dia,e o praticante começa o Ving Tsun participando da Cerimônia de Hoi Kuen(開拳)

In early days, the student already starts doing the BAAI SI, but this brings a lot of responsabilities so nowadays most of the schools just receives the new students with the Hoi Kuen(開拳). And the Baai Si happens latter in his Ving Tsun journey.

Si Fu costuma brincar:

"Se o Osama Bin Laden existe mesmo,e tivesse acesso ao pensamento chinês, ele estaria escondido no meio do Central Park usando um boné dos Yankees. É tão óbvio que ninguém o procuraria ali. Na verdade não tem nada mais óbvio do que se esconder em cavernas no meio do Afeganistão. 
No Ving Tsun, a parte mais importante aparece logo de cara. A parte mais importante do sistema, é justamente o que você aprende primeiro: A primeira parte do Siu Nim Tau. Mas é tão simples que ninguém dá importância.Então pro chinês, a melhor maneira de esconder algo tão importante é botar logo de cara. Porque a gente sempre está preocupado com a famosa 'técnica secreta' e nunca repara que está o tempo todo ali."

Si Fu used to play:

" If Osama Bin Laden  had access to "Chinese classical thought", he would be buried in the Central Park wearing a Yankees cap. It's so obvious that nobody would look for him there. In fact there is nothing more obvious than hiding in caves in the middle of Afghanistan.

At Ving Tsun, the most important part appears right in the beggining. The most important part of the system is just what you learn first: The first part of the Siu Nim Tau. But it is so simple that nobody gives importance to it.So for Chinese, the best way to hide something so important is to put up in the beggining. Because we're always concerned about the famous "secret technique" and never notice they're there all the time. "
