VISIT BY MASTER FABIO GOMES TO MYVT MEIER SCHOOL

Ontem, tive o prazer de passar a tarde com o Mestre Fabio Gomes[FOTO]. Este discípulo do Grão Mestre Leo Imamura, meu Si Gung,  resolveu tomar para si o desafio de adaptar a lógica do Sistema Ving Tsun as necessidades de Forças de Operações Especiais.

Segundo suas próprias palavras, ele sempre teve uma admiração pelo trabalho desempenhado por estas unidades de elite. No ano de 1999 o 1° Batalhão de Forças Especiais do Exército Brasileiro (unidade militar composta por Combatentes Comandos e Operadores de Forças Especiais) ainda era localizado no Camboatá, na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, região próxima a uma residência sua. Na época, passando de carro em frente a esta unidade militar, teria lhe passado pela cabeça a seguinte pergunta: “Por que não tentar desenvolver um trabalho com o Ving Tsun na área de segurança, a começar pelo 1° Batalhão de Forças Especiais?”

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Master Fabio Gomes[PHOTO]. This disciple of Grand Master Leo Imamura, my Si Gung, decided to take on the challenge of adapting the logic of the Ving Tsun System to the needs of Special Operations Forces of Brazil.

In his own words, he always had an admiration for the work performed by these elite units. In 1999, the 1st Battalion of Special Forces of the Brazilian Army (military unit composed of Combatants and Special Forces Operators) was still located in Camboatá, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, a region close to one of his residences. At the time, driving by this military unit, the following question would have crossed his mind: “Why not try to develop work with Ving Tsun in the security area, starting with the 1st Battalion of Special Forces?”

Na tarde de ontem, tive a boa surpresa de receber no Mo Gun da minha Família Kung Fu, meu Si Suk Fabio Gomes. Junto dele estava o Fabricio, que aproveitou a oportunidade para fazer uma aula experimental com meu aluno Daniel Eustáquio[FOTO]. 

Pude conversar com o Si Suk Fabio Gomes por mais de uma hora, sobre muitos temas de interesse comum, e desta conversa surgiu uma possibilidade muito especial de projeto. A ideia partiu espontaneamente dele, a partir do trabalho que venho desenvolvendo com o Thiago Silva em nosso Podcast “Vida-Kung Fu” com seus dois programas: O homônimo em portugues “Vida Kung Fu”, e o programa totalmente em ingles de nome “Kung Fu Coffee Break”[ambos já no SPOTIFY] 

Hoje pela manhã acordei com a mensagem de que o projeto estava confirmado!

Além disso, me foi possível conhecer um pouco mais do Mestre Fabio Gomes e de momentos de sua trajetória como discípulo de seu Mestre Leo Imamura, e também como contemporâneo de meu Mestre Julio Camacho. Aproveitei a oportunidade para perguntar sobre a lendária viagem dos dois com Si Gung ao Kentucky nos anos '90 e sobre a viagem dos dois com o Si Suk Marcello Abreu a Fatsan e Hong Kong em 2006. Encerramos a tarde com um café espresso no já tradicional Café Zoro do Sr Roberto, que fica em nosso bairro.

Yesterday afternoon, I had the good surprise of receiving my Si Suk Fabio Gomes at the Mo Gun of my Kung Fu Family. With him was Fabricio, who took the opportunity to do an experimental class with my student Daniel Eustáquio[PHOTO].

I was able to talk with Si Suk Fabio Gomes for more than an hour, about many topics of common interest, and from this conversation a very special project possibility arose. The idea came spontaneously from him, from the work I have been developing with Thiago Silva on our Podcast “Vida-Kung Fu” with its two programs: The homonym in Portuguese “Vida Kung Fu”, and the program totally in English called “ Kung Fu Coffee Break”[Both already on SPOTIFY]

This morning I woke up with the message that the project was confirmed!

In addition, it was possible for me to get to know a little more about Master Fabio Gomes and moments of his trajectory as a disciple of his Master Leo Imamura, and also as a contemporary of my Master Julio Camacho. I took the opportunity to ask about their legendary trip with Si Gung to Kentucky in the '90s and about their trip with Si Suk Marcello Abreu to Fatsan and Hong Kong in 2006. We ended the afternoon with an espresso in the already traditional Mr Roberto's Café Zoro, which is in our neighborhood.
