An essay on the art of following your "Si Fu" (師父).

(Meu Si Fu sempre chama a minha atenção para não tirar "selfies". Segundo ele, são fotos muito solitárias. Nessa ocasião, ele tenta atrapalhar minha foto mostrando o tamanho da minha testa. risos)

My Si Fu always calls my attention to stop taking "selfies". According to him, those kind of photos, are very lonely ones. On this occasion, he tries to muddle my photo by showing the size of my forehead. Laughs)

Uma vez o Renato Russo disse, que casais brigam porque quando um amigo te chama para ir num casamento em Niterói numa tarde de Sábado e você não quer, seu amigo entende. Porém, quando sua esposa te diz que haverá esse mesmo casamento e você diz que não quer ir... Provavelmente haverá uma discussão. Mas nada disse o vocalista da banda Legião Urbana, sobre a relação "Si-To"(師徒).

"Seguidor" é chamado de "To Dai"(徒弟), então "Si-To"(師徒) é como uma abreviação de "Si Fu" (師父) e "To Dai"(徒弟). Eu me considero um "To Dai"(徒弟) leal, mas o ato de seguir o "Si Fu" (師父), nem sempre será uma tarefa simples. Si Fu diz: "Gostar eu gosto de sorvete, Pereira". - Ele dizia isso apesar de só tê-lo visto tomando sorvete duas vezes: Na primeira, ele ensinava a Jade ainda criança a passar a batata frita do McDonald´s no sorvete. Na segunda oportunidade, tomamos sorvete juntos no Shopping Tijuca. 

Na primeira oportunidade, estava sentado ao lado de Si Fu e Jade, e mal conseguia olhar ele passando a batata-frita no sorvete e comendo- "Você não gosta? É bom!" - Disse ele rindo com uma batata coberta de sorvete de creme enquanto Jade comia outra. Ele me ofereceu, mas eu não consegui nem provar. Anos mais tarde, comentava com Si Fu que havia reencontrado uma antiga namorada e de como ela havia mudado. Disse Si Fu: "Você sempre foi muito 'quadrado', né Pereira?"- Comentou ele que completando depois: "Foi bom ela ter terminado com você. Ela não conseguiria descobrir quem era ela, você era muito chato. Melhorou bastante, mas ainda é bem chato". - Ouvi aquele áudio de whatsapp meio consternado, mas fazia sentido, eu era o mesmo cara que com dezesseis anos de idade, era "certinho" demais para passar a batata-frita no sorvete de creme. 

Mais de uma década depois, havia tido um desentendimento com Si Fu. Observando que a "energia" ainda estava carregada mesmo ao final, Si Fu me convidou para almoçar. Eu disse que ele se atrasaria para seu compromisso com o Fabiano Silva, ele apenas disse: "Eu sei". 

Quando o almoço acabou, acompanhei Si Fu a pé até o consultório de Fabiano. Antes porém, passamos por um quiosque do MacDonald´s que vendia sorvete.- "Vem! Vamos tomar um sorvete!" - Lembrei Si Fu que tenho alergia a lactose.- "Pode tomar, confia em mim". - E quando já estávamos na rua, Si Fu disse: "Esse sorvete não vai te fazer mal. Pode lembrar desse dia. Esse sorvete é especial". 

Naquele dia, eu teria uma série de compromissos, mas de fato não passei mal. Nem no dia seguinte. Seguir um "Si Fu" (師父) não é fácil. E me pergunto agora, o que poderia ter sido diferente em minha vida, se tivesse aceitado também, a batata-frita com sorvete em 2001...

The legendary brazilian singer Renato Russo once said that couples fight because when a friend asks you to go to a wedding in another city on a Saturday afternoon and you don't want to, your friend understands. However, when your wife tells you that there will be this same wedding and you say you don't want to go ... There will probably be an argument. But the vocalist of the rock band Legião Urbana said nothing about the "Si-To" (師徒) relationship.

A "Follower" is called "To Dai" (徒弟), so "Si-To" (師徒) is an abbreviation of "Si Fu" (師父) and "To Dai" (徒弟). I consider myself a loyal "To Dai" (徒弟), but the act of following "Si Fu" (師父) will not always be a simple task. Si Fu says: "I like ice cream, Pereira". - He said that even though I only saw him eating ice cream twice: In the first, he taught his daughter Jade as a child to pass McDonald's fries on ice cream. At the second opportunity, we had ice cream together at Tijuca Mall.

At the first opportunity, I was sitting next to Si Fu and Jade, and I could barely look at him passing the french fries on the ice cream and eating- "Don't you like it? It's tasty!" - He said laughing with a potato covered in ice cream while Jade ate another one. He offered it to me, but I couldn't even taste that. Years later, I commented to Si Fu that I had met an former girlfriend and how she had changed. Si Fu said: "You were always a very 'narrow-minded', right Pereira?" - He commented that after completing: "It was good that she broke up with you. She couldn't find out who she was staying by your side. You were a very boring person. You improved a lot, but you are still pretty boring ". - I heard that WhatsApp audio a little dismayed, but it made sense, I was the same guy who when I was sixteen years old, I was too "narrow-minded" to pass the french fries on the ice cream.

More than a decade later, I had a disagreement with Si Fu. Noting that the "energy" was still charged even at the end, Si Fu invited me to lunch. I said he would be late for his appointment with Fabiano Silva, he just said: "I know".

When lunch was over, I accompanied Si Fu on foot to Fabiano's office. Before, however, we passed a MacDonald´s kiosk that sold ice cream.- "Come on! Let's have some ice cream!" - I reminded Si Fu that I am allergic to lactose.- "Take it, trust me". - And when we were already on the street, Si Fu said: "This ice cream will not make you sick. You will remember this very day. This ice cream is special".

On that day, I would have a series of commitments, but in fact I was not sick. Not the next day either. Following a "Si Fu" (師父) is not easy. And I wonder now, what could have been different in my life, if I had also accepted the french fries with ice cream in 2001 ...
