The story of Wong Wa Bo(3G VT) from Ving Tsun(A história de Wong Wa Bo do Ving Tsun)

Carimbo de Wong Wa Bo, o terceiro ancestral do Ving Tsun.

The seal of Wong Wah Bo, the third ancestor of our lineage.

O Ving Tsun entra na Ópera Cantonesa: (瓊花會館)
Ving Tsun in the Chinese Opera:

Is told that to be an Cantonese Opera acotr, you have to master "the four skills" and "the fice means".

The photo above, took in 2009 during the visit of the Moy Yat Clan to the Opera Museum says:
"For the Cantonese Opera artists: sing, act, dialogue and kung fu, are the four skills. And hands, body, eys, gesture and step are the five means. The two combined are the "Four Skills and the Five Means", the skills for and Opera actor."

Above, we see a character Mo Sang(武生), and the Mo Sang was a very respectful role, wich
Wong Wah Bo (3G VT)used to play.

Some weeks ago, as we see(or try to see) in this very bad picture taken by me, Si Fu and some KF Bros had a lunch in my fav restaurante. At the moment, Carlos Antunes(12G VT), his disciple asked him about the Cantonese Opera. I listened very carefully 'cause this is a subject that impresses me a lot.

Si Sok Felipe Soares(11G VT) , who was also in the lunch as saw above, stands in front of some instruments that are used in Cantonese Opera presentations. We think that only the acting matters, but old chinese used to say that "They were going to LISTEN the Opera". So thats the importance of the musical instruments.

Si Fu said tht in the west, we apreciate actors who are able to play different roles. Some of them also are capable to change their appearence. But in China, especifically in Cantonese Opera, the actors most apreciated were those who were able to master only one character for his whole life. Each gesture, each talk, each movement, with mastering by the actor. getting better and better every moment.

Above , we see a photo of some actors trainning standing in just one foot. This photo was also taken by Moy Yat Clan.
Wong Wa Bo(3G VT), had a great influence on the Cantonese Opera, and by that he was able to introduce Ving Tsun to this group.
So , we must think about the positioning of the actors when we look the photo below...

In 2004, a long time ago. Gil and Murilo (both 12G VT) , during the legendary Beach Trainning( click HERE to watch) had practiced the Siu Nim Tau in a position known as Gam Gai Duk Lap

Onde:
Wich:

金 (Gam) - significa "Ouro" (means "Golden")
雞(Gai) -  significa "galo" (also means "rooster")
獨(Duk) - "sozinho" ou "único". ("single" or "Only")
立(Lap) - "de pé". ("stand)

"The golden rooster standing position"

Sang (生),Daan (旦),Zing (淨) e Cau (丑).

There are four types of role in Cantonese Opera:  Sang (生),Daan (旦),Zing (淨) e Cau (丑).

(Wong Wa Bo 3G VT, had been played by many actors in many movies trough the years. In this one, Sammo Hung does a Wong Wa Bo in the "wing Chun" Tv drama from 2007.)

Wong Wa Bo, fazia parte do Sang (生).

Wong Wa Bo was part of the Sang(生). This group was for male actors, and also where the main roles of the show were. The Mo Sang, role of Wong Wa Bo(3G VT), asked for perfomances attached to martial arts. The actors should have acrobtic skills and during the songs , their voices should stay natural.

(Si Baak Gung Pete Pajil 10 G VT, Si Hing of Si Gung Leo Imamura, looks this incredible ... Action figure?lol
of the redjunk.)

The King Fa Wui Gun,used to move from place to place using boats. Made by junks painted in red.(Hung Suen). As is told in the oral tradition, during one of those presentations, Leung Bok To(2G VT), husband of the founder Yim Ving Tsun, watched Wong Wa Bo(3G VT).

Leung Bok To met Wa Bo in person, 'cause he was a great fan of the Cantonese Opera. After the event, knowing Wa Bo better, Leung Bok To was impressed not only with his skills as an actor, but principally with his qualities as human been. So he decided to take him as a disciple. So since this moment, the Ving Tsun get into the redjunks.

The image above is taken from the Tv Drama "Faat San Jaan Sing Saang" (Mister Jaan from Faat San) ´(you can watched the episode 1 HERE ) . In this show, we can see the last ancestor of Ving Tsun from the Red Junk: Leung Yi Tai 5G VT.)

Below, we see Sammo Hung (AGAIN!) playing Wong Wa Bo (Again!) , but this time, in a comedy an action movie called "The Prodigal Son" from 1982.

The junks had their homes. The  King Fa Wui Gun And was there that Wong Wa Bo met his future disciple: A literature student and revolutionary with an artistic name Wang Jung(閎中), later, known as Leung Laan Gwaai.

Si Sok Felipe, Si Gung e Si Baak Gung, observam a exuberante maquete da sede da Ópera Cantonesa.
Si Sok Felipe (11G VT), his Si Fu Leo Imamura(10G VT), and his Si Baak Pete Pajil (10 G VT) looking to the miniature of the King Fa Wui Gun.

Talkin' bout revolutionary, the Ving Tsun Kung Fu was inside the redjunk , so , it was also between a lot of revolutionary men, 'cause they saw that using the red boats they could reach a lot of places easily. As you see on the map above, wich shows the red boats route.

Was during the Haam Fung (Xian Feng) period of Qing Dinasty, that the King Fa Wui Gun was burned down by the goverment and its activities was interrupted.

O jovem Si Fu Julio Camacho aguarda enquanto Si Taai Gung Moy Yat prepara mais uma obra.
The young Si Fu Julio Camacho(11G VT) watches Si Taai Gung Moy Yat(9G VT) doing some other master piece.

Si Taai Gung Moy Yat once said about very interesting aspect refered to martial arts:
In Martial Arts, does not exist only the physical aspect. It is needed to understand that a "Si Fu" inside the old chinese society, always have a high position as a educator. So : etiquette, caligraphy and other knowledge always was glimpsed coming from a Si Fu.

This explain two concepts:
Man(文), that means "culture"and Mo(武), that means "War"(or "Martial").

(In early 00`s , watched by Si Gung and Si Fu in the right, Si Taai Gung leaves a gift for the Moy Yat Sang Clan 10G VT)

When we talk about Man, it means that the practitioner must be capable to understand how the culture of the martial art that he practices works trough specific logic concept. He starts to figure out that the characters , the etiquette, the genealogy is all linked up. How the practitioner express his Kung Fu trough music, caligraphy, literature???

In this scene from the movie "The Last Samurai"(AQUI ) , Tom Cruise thinks about the fact that each person in the village looks like is trying to reach his excellence in everything that they do.

Isso é Man(文).

This is "Man". "Man"is our human development, wich comes from the martial experience that is exactly the "Mo".

Inside the Opera, we have roles in "Mo"(martial) nature, that Wong Wa Bo(3G VT) was in, and it group was represented by fight movements, weapons, warriors and generals. In "Man"nature roles, the characters used to do a lot of facial expressions to tell their emotions. The characters are intelectuals and elegants. They used to wear a cloth with a part called Sui Zau 水袖 or "water sleeves"that produces a elegant effect on the character.

Finally, during the talk at Benkei Restaurant with Si Fu, Carlos Antunes(12G VT) and the bros. Si Fu commented laugh that sometime he was with Si Sok Marcelo Abreu(11G VT) in NY, at the old Si Taai Gung Moy Yat`s Mo Gun. They were alone with him. And Si Taai Gung was wacthing Opera, studyiing it.

Si Taai Gung, segundo Si Fu, olhava atentamente a TV onde passava um espetaculo e perguntou: "Do you two like Opera?". E os convidou para sentar.

Si Taai Gung said: "Do you guys like Opera?". And invited them to sit and watch.
Eu e Daniel, filho do querido amigo e irmão Kung Fu Vladimir Anchieta.

and also KF brother Vladimir Anchieta.
