MASTER URSULA AND HER STUDENT HELENA RIBEIRO MADE HISTORY AGAIN.

...Eu cheguei ao restaurante do hotel e fui recebido carinhosamente pelos membros da Família Moy Lin Mah, liderada pela minha Si Suk Ursula Lima. Segurava desajeitadamente e apressadamente, minha mochila que sempre levo comigo. Meu jeito atrapalhado não combinava com meu traje formal para o evento. De repente, avistei membros da minha Família Kung Fu que após me acenarem com a cabeça, me apontaram um assento reservado para mim. Agradeci e sentei-me. Percebi então que a Cerimonia já estava quase no final, mas algo me chamou a atenção...

Si Suk Ursula, como já era de se esperar, sentava-se na cadeira reservada a ela quando na presença do seu marido, o Sr Ricardo Lopes, a quem se referem por “Sing Sang”.  Porém, de frente para eles e de costas para o público, uma pessoa sentava-se numa cadeira especial para o promovente com a cabeça por vezes baixa, por vezes na direção da Testemunha Honorável que lhe falava. A testemunha honroável era meu Si Suk Ricardo Queiroz tecendo suas palavras sempre assertivas. Palavras estas, que costumam me fazer pensar sobre como alguém consegue captar tanta informação e condensá-las em palavras tão personalizadas... É fantástico!

O que me tocou porém, não era a cena nem o que estava sendo dito, desta vez. O que me tocou foi o que senti: Uma força muito grande emanando daquela pessoa sentada ali no meio ouvindo aquelas palavras... Era  Helena Ribeiro. Discípula de Mestra Ursula que estava sendo promovida naquele dia ao penúltimo Domínio do Sistema Ving Tsun. E de onde eu estava, não podia ver nenhuma das expressões que a Helena fazia naquele momento. Mas sentia sua presença... Ocupando toda a sala... Como mágica...- “...Me chamo Helena Carneiro Ribeiro, sou praticante e Tutora Qualificada do Núcleo Copacabana da Moy Yat Ving Tsun Martial Intelligence, discípula "Dai Ji" (12ª GVT) de Mestra Ursula Lima - Líder da Família Moy Lin Mah, tendo recebido na ocasião de meu Baai Si o nome Kung Fu "Moy Gaap Lin"...” [Sept. 2017 - Mo Gun All Stars]

...I arrived at the hotel restaurant and was warmly welcomed by the members of the Moy Lin Mah Family, led by my Si Suk Ursula Lima. I was clutching, awkwardly and hastily, my backpack that I always carry with me. My clumsy manner didn't match my formal attire for the event. Suddenly, I saw members of my Kung Fu Family who after nodding at me, pointed me to a seat reserved for me. I thanked them and sat down. I realized then that the Ceremony was almost over, but something caught my attention...

Si Suk Ursula, as was to be expected, sat in the chair reserved for her when in the presence of her husband, Mr Ricardo Lopes, referred to as “Sing Sang”. However, facing them and with her back to the audience, a person sat in a special spot with her head sometimes bowed, sometimes in the direction of the Honorable Witness who was speaking to her. It was my Si Suk Ricardo Queiroz weaving his always assertive words. That used to make me think about how someone manages to capture so much information and condense it into such personalized words... It's fantastic!

What struck me though, wasn't the scene or what was being said this time. What touched me was what I felt: A very strong force emanating from that person sitting there in the middle listening to those words... She is Helena Ribeiro. Disciple of Master Ursula who was being promoted that day to the Domain of the Ving Tsun System Luk Dim Bun Gwan. And from where I was, I couldn't see any of the expressions Helena was making at that moment. But I felt her presence... Occupying the whole room... Like magic...- “...  “...Ao longo desse tempo, tiveram momentos bons e outros em que eu me encontrava numa situação difícil ... Em todos eles, lá estava Si Fu. Por outro lado, penso que eu muito provavelmente, não estive presente da mesma forma, sempre que Si Fu precisou. É difícil perceber o quanto uma pessoa se dedica por nós e cuida para que estejamos bem, até que a gente também assuma esse papel. Hoje, acredito que eu tenha um pouco mais de maturidade para perceber certas coisas e o Kung Fu me beneficia muito nesse processo. Eu posso falar de uma ocasião que foi muito marcante para mim e que tem relação com esse sentimento ... Era uma quarta-feira, um dia cheio no Mo Gun, e eu tinha acabado de chegar para tutorizar uma aula do Ving Tsun Experience. Nesse dia, Si Fu já estava lá desde cedo e quando eu cheguei, fui direto para a sua sala. Esperava cumprimentar Si Fu e então correr para trocar de camisa, seguindo para as atividades do dia. Mas quando entrei, vi Si Fu na frente do computador com uma expressão séria e os olhos vermelhos, ela pediu que eu entrasse e fechasse a porta. Si Fu compartilhou comigo a respeito de uma notícia que acabara de receber e estava muito preocupada. Nesse momento, apesar da notícia, minha primeira reação foi um choque ao ver Si Fu fragilizada. Eu não sabia o que fazer ou o que dizer. Só pude ouvir o que Si Fu dizia, como uma parede e então, Si Fu levantou e disse que precisávamos cuidar das aulas do Experience. Eu nem lembrava mais da hora ou da aula que haveria. Ao sair da sala, Si Fu mudou de expressão e voltou sua atenção para o que era necessário naquele momento. As atividades no Mo Gun seguiram, conduzidas por Si Fu... O que queria dizer é que, quando penso em Si Fu e no papel que ela exerce na Família Kung Fu, me pergunto como posso contribuir com esse processo, para que nós da Família Moy Lin Mah, possamos estar cada vez mais, cuidando melhor de nossa Si Fu, assim como ela o faz conosco...”  [Sept. 2017 - Mo Gun All Stars]

A presença de Helena e tudo o que representava ela estar sentada ali naquele momento, arrancou algumas lágrimas de sua Si Fu, e claro.. Dela também. 

Desde a fundação do Sistema Ving Tsun, Helena é a primeira discípula a receber acesso ao Domínio Luk Dim Bun Gwaan sob a tutela de uma Si Fu na Linhagem Moy Yat na América Latina. Lembro claramente da Helena no início de sua jornada, sempre presente, mas nem tão aparente em meio a multidão. Mais tarde, ela saia de seu trabalho e se dirigia ao Mo Gun de sua Família Kung Fu. Agora ela já tinha responsabilidades. Naqueles tempos eu costumava estar por lá com mais frequencia. As vezes abria a porta para ela, e lembro dela enrolando um fone de ouvido com mal contato e a testa brilhando por causa do calor... Mas naquele momento, em que algo era dito de Si Fu para discípula, sem nenhuma palavra ser dita. Lembrei--me do Si Gung, quando ele fala em “Transformação silenciosa”. Afinal, parecia que eu estava sentindo a presença de alguém completamente diferente. E de alguma maneira, todos intuíram isso... E talvez, também resida nesse sentimento,  legitimidade do acesso de Helena ao Luk Dim Bun Gwan. 

“...Throughout that time, there were good times and others when I found myself in a difficult situation... In all of them, there was Si Fu. On the other hand, I think I most likely haven't been present in the same way whenever Si Fu needed it. It's hard to see how much a person is dedicated to us and takes care that we are well, until we also assume this role. Today, I believe that I have a little more maturity to understand certain things and Kung Fu benefits me a lot in this process. I can talk about an occasion that was very important to me and that is related to this feeling… It was a Wednesday, a full day at Mo Gun, and I had just arrived to tutor a Ving Tsun Experience class. That day, Si Fu was already there early on and when I arrived, I went straight to her office.I hoped to say hello to Si Fu and then run off to change my shirt, heading for the day's activities. But when I entered, I saw Si Fu in front of the computer with a serious expression and red eyes, she asked me to come in and close the door. Si Fu shared with me about a news she had just received and she was very worried. At that moment, despite the news, my first reaction was a shock to see Si Fu weakened. I didn't know what to do or what to say. I could only hear what Si Fu was saying, like a wall, and then Si Fu got up and said we needed to take care of the Experience classes. I couldn't even remember what time or what class there would be. As she left the room, Si Fu changed her expression and turned her attention to what was needed at that moment. The activities at Mo Gun continued, led by Si Fu... What I meant is that when I think about Si Fu and the role she plays in the Kung Fu Family, I wonder how I can contribute to this process, so that we give Moy Lin Mah Family, let us be more and more, taking better care of our Si Fu, just as she does us...” [Sept. 2017 - Mo Gun All Stars]

The presence of Helena and everything that represented her sitting there at that moment, drew some tears from her Si Fu, and of course .. From her too.

Since the founding of the Ving Tsun System, Helena is the first female disciple to be granted access to the Luk Dim Bun Gwaan Domain under the tutelage of a female Si Fu in the Moy Yat Lineage in Latin America. I clearly remember Helena at the beginning of her journey, always present but not so apparent in the crowd. She later after job , headed to her Kung Fu Family's Mo Gun. Now she had responsibilities. In those days I used to be there more often. Sometimes I opened the door for her, and I remember her putting a bad earphone in place and her forehead glowing from the heat... But at that moment, when something was said from Si Fu to disciple, without a word being said . I remembered Si Gung, when he talks about “Silent Transformation”. After all, it felt like I was feeling the presence of someone completely different. And somehow, everyone intuited that... And maybe, it also resides in this feeling, legitimacy of Helena's access to Luk Dim Bun Gwan.

“...O Baai Si com minha Si Fu foi um processo muito natural. Tiveram muitos esforços reunidos para a sua realização, ainda mais por se tratar da primeira cerimônia de Baai Si da Família Moy Lin Mah, mas ao mesmo tempo, foi relativamente simples. Do meu ponto de vista, acho que podemos comparar a Cerimônia de Hoi Kuen com o momento em que você convida a pessoa que gosta para namorar, é quando você quer ter um compromisso sério com aquela pessoa e se sente a vontade para se abrir de verdade com ela, há uma série de desafios a serem encarados a partir daí, inclusive dentro do convívio que aumenta e que vai se estender também aos familiares de cada um. Já o Baai Si, seria como o casamento, quando ambas as partes desejam firmar aquele compromisso dia após dia, levando em consideração os altos e baixos, as incertezas e os desafios da vida, dispostos a seguir juntos cuidando um do outro e das gerações seguintes. Vejo um pouco por aí, (risos). O Kung Fu me mostrou que relacionar-se com o outro é uma capacidade humana que deve ser desenvolvida e trabalhada constantemente, não é fácil. Mas é fundamental para o nosso ser. Acredito que o Baai Si hoje, dentro da nossa cultura, talvez seja algo um pouco difícil de assimilar. Eu o entendo como um compromisso firmado entre Mestre e Discípulo, um para com o outro, seus familiares e todas as gerações que vieram antes e as que ainda estão por vir. Muitos fizeram referencia a execução de Helena do que conhecemos por “Da Hung Jong”. Até mesmo a co-liderança da Família Moy Lin Mah, o senhor Ricardo Lopes a parabenizou por isso. Eu cheguei após esse momento. Porém, lembro bem de quando ela teve acesso ao Domínio Mui Fa Jong alguns anos antes. Ela estava prestes a se mudar para Portugal e toda a sua Família Kung Fu estava lá para festejá-la, assim como alguns de seus familiares. E talvez graças a um esforço conjunto de Mestra e Discípula entre Helena e sua Si Fu, ela conseguiu não só “seguir junto” com sua Si Fu e Família Kung Fu, como também se fazer presente para pessoas queridas e importantes em sua vida. Então ela pode não só estar com seus familiares em momentos difíceis durante essa trajetória, como também manter a sintonia com seu companheiro Raphael, ao ponto de se casarem como bem disse sua Si Fu durante a Cerimonia. Então, foi como se a Helena estivesse conseguindo o nível de excelência que sua Si Fu consegue ao ser extremamente presente para seus alunos mas também para sua filha, marido e demais familiares.

Many referred to Helena's perfomance of what we know as “Da Hung Jong”. Even the co-leadership of the Moy Lin Mah Family, Mr. Ricardo Lopes congratulated her for that. I arrived after that moment. However, I remember well when she had access to the Mui Fa Jong Domain a few years earlier. She was about to move to Portugal and her entire Kung Fu Family was there to celebrate her, as well as some of her family members. And perhaps thanks to a joint effort of Master and Disciple between Helena and her Si Fu, she managed not only to "go along" with her Si Fu and Kung Fu Family, but also to be present in the lives of dear and important people in her life . So she can not only be with her family in difficult moments during this trajectory, but also keep in tune with her partner Raphael, to the point of getting married, as her Si Fu said during the Ceremony. So, it was as if Helena was achieving the level of excellence that her Si Fu achieves by being extremely present to her students but also to her daughter, husband and other family members.

 Na condição de Mestre, eu sempre sou convidado a sentar-me ao lado das demais lideranças presentes neste tipo de evento, por ocasião da foto oficial que tiramos juntando todos os presentes. Além das lideranças, dignitários e familiares muitas vezes sentam-se para o registro. 

Caminhei em direção aos lugares. Algumas pessoas já estavam posicionadas atrás das cadeiras para a foto oficial do evento. Achei que seria um bom momento para cumprimentar Helena. Apertamos as mãos e eu lhe dei parabéns. Não tinha muito a ser dito. Afinal , o que somos capazes de colocar em palavras, para alguém que acabou de fazer história ?

Até onde Helena vai chegar?

Sabe, é como na pintura chinesa: Assim como nas artes marciais, você precisa estar atento a propensão de tudo que envolverá a pintura. Por exemplo: O pincel tem um potencial para fazer o traço e o traço apresenta potencial para o pincel. Se você por acaso quer fazer um traço fino, você começa pesando a mão com um traço grosso até que ele afine naturalmente. E tudo isso, precisa ser constantemente antecipado a cada pincelada, pois a arte consiste também, em saber conectar a sequência de pinceladas necessárias para a obra, sempre antecipando o próximo movimento.

Saberemos daqui a pouco tempo, o quão Helena foi capaz de conectar cada traço da obra que está pintando no mundo do Ving Tsun...

As a Master, I am always invited to sit beside the other leaders present at this type of event, on the occasion of the official photo that we took bringing together all those present. In addition to the leaders, dignitaries and family members often sit down to take the photo.

I walked towards the chairs. Some people were already positioned behind the chairs for the official photo of the event. I thought it would be a good time to say hello to Helena. We shook hands and I congratulated her. There wasn't much to say. After all, what are we capable of putting into words, for someone who has just made history?

How far will Helena go?

You know, it's like Chinese painting: Just like in martial arts, you need to be aware of the propensity of everything that will involve painting. For example: The brush has a potential to make the stroke and the stroke has potential for the brush. If you happen to want to make a fine stroke, you start by weighing your hand with a thick stroke until it thins naturally. And all of this needs to be constantly anticipated with each brushstroke, because art is also about knowing how to connect the sequence of brushstrokes necessary for the work, always anticipating the next move.

We will know in a short time, how much Helena was able to connect every stroke of the work she is painting in the world of Ving Tsun...

Numa tarde de Domingo chuvosa, me dirigi ao Copacabana Mar Hotel na Zona Sul do Rio de Janeiro. Um dos organizadores do evento, e aluno de um dos autores do livro chamado Vitor Antônio, me sugeriu que descesse na estação de metro Cardeal Arco Verde em Copacabana. Segui a pé e logo depois estava diante no saguão de entrada. Não foi necessário terminar a frase para que o gerente do hotel soubesse para onde estava indo. Segurando minha mochila, fui recebido por outras pessoas da organização já na porta do elevador. Estava tudo muito bem cuidado para a ocasião. Pois naquele dia, uma das alunas de Mestra Ursula receberia uma promoção inédita. Além disso, era a celebração do aniversário da própria Mestra. O que fez com que seus alunos e ex-alunos estivessem presentes. Porém, o que pude perceber, é que a grande expectativa estava direcionada ao lançamento do primeiro livro de uma coleção de livros escritos não só pela Mestra Ursula Lima, como também por outros dois renomados Mestres Seniores de Ving Tsun Kung Fu: Mestre Julio Camacho e Ricardo Queiroz. 

On a rainy Sunday afternoon, I went to the Copacabana Mar Hotel in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. One of the organizers of the event, and a student of one of the authors of the book called Vitor Antônio, suggested that I get off at the Cardeal Arco Verde metro station in Copacabana. I continued on foot and soon after was in front of the entrance hall. It wasn't necessary to finish the sentence for the hotel manager to know where I was going. Holding my backpack, I was greeted by other people from the organization already at the elevator door. Everything was very well taken care of for the occasion. Because that day, one of Master Ursula's students would receive an unprecedented promotion. Also, it was Master Ursula's own birthday celebration. What made her students and former students present. However, what I could see is that the great expectation was directed towards the release of the first book of a collection of nine books written not only by Master Ursula Lima, but also by two other renowned Senior Masters of Ving Tsun Kung Fu: Master Julio Camacho and Ricardo Queiroz.

E finalmente, entre rostos conhecidos e outros nem tanto, o momento do lançamento do livro havia chegado. Os presentes sentavam-se para ouvir os autores e posteriormente receberem seu autógrafo. 

Fui convidado para sentar na primeira fileira, e ambos os autores estavam muito felizes. Porém, era notada a ausência do Mestre Senior Julio Camacho. Então, ele que vive na Flórida com sua esposa, apareceu num grande telão ao lado da mesa principal. E uma interação muito especial entre os três aconteceu, enquanto os mesmos explicavam um pouco sobre como se deu o projeto e o que estava por vir...

And finally, among familiar faces and less so, the time for the book's launch had arrived. Those present sat down to listen to the authors and later receive their autograph.

I was invited to sit in the front row, and both authors were very happy. However, the absence of Senior Master Julio Camacho was noted. Then, he who lives in Florida with his wife, appeared on a big screen beside the main table. And a very special interaction between the three of them took place, as they explained a little about how the project came about and what was to come...

Os autores explicaram que todo o processo até que o livro chegasse as mãos dos ávidos interessados, levou apenas um mês. Essa capacidade de realização impressionante, exemplifica bem do que esse primeiro livro da coleção se trata :“Marcialidade”. 

A proposta dos autores foi tratar do tema de uma maneira aprofundada, porém de maneira com que qualquer pessoa possa perceber como esse conceito presentes nas artes marciais, pode ser usado para uma melhor qualidade de vida. E tudo isso, sem fotos de técnicas, mas através de uma discussão entre três pessoas com características tão diferentes.

The authors explained that the entire process until the book reached the hands of the audience took only a month. This impressive capacity for achievement exemplifies what this first book in the collection is all about: “Martiality”.

The authors' proposal was to deal with the theme in a deeper way, but in a way that anyone can understand how this concept present in martial arts can be used for a better quality of life. And all this, without photos of techniques, but through a discussion between three people with such different characteristics.

Um ponto importante levantado pelos autores durante esse painel do último Domingo, é que as palavras escritas no livro, são sim oriundas de saberes distintos dos quais os três são possuidores. Porém, o principal ponto do que é exposto nas linhas de cada página, é que aquilo em que acreditam vem de uma experiência nas artes marciais que somada dá mais de um século.

An important point raised by the authors during this last Sunday panel is that the words written in the book do come from distinct knowledge of which the three are possessors. However, the main point of what is exposed in the lines of each page, is that what they believe comes from an experience in the martial arts that added up to more than a century.

Grão-Mestre Leo Imamura, mentor dos três Mestres e autores, e que tinha acabado de passar por uma cirurgia. Fez questão de mandar um vídeo com uma mensagem através da qual finalizo o artigo com a transcrição da mesma, que tão bem representam a importância desta obra :“...Fico muito feliz pela iniciativa deles de trazer para o público em geral, todo esse conhecimento específico e importantíssimo para os dias de hoje, que é a questão do sentido amplo de Kung Fu. E eu tenho certeza de que essa obra será de grande relevancia não só para os praticantes de Kung Fu, mas também para todos aqueles que estão interessados em uma visão diferenciada, sobre aquilo que nós chamamos de viver a nossa própria vida...”

He made a point of sending a video with a message through which I end the article with the transcript, which so well represents the importance of this work:.: “...I'm very happy for their initiative to bring to the general public all this specific and very important knowledge for nowadays, which is the question of the broad sense of Kung Fu. And I'm sure that this work will be of great relevance not only for Kung Fu practitioners, but also for all those who are interested in a different vision, about what we call living our own life...”
