The truth about some Ving Tsun myths was spoted by Master Leo Imamura, in a later review in our magazine, between those myths, the most said is about the fact that some people say that Ving Tsun does not have a leg work. But this review - also by Master Leo Imamura- certanly will throw away this idea.

The Kicks.

The kick, whatever it is, is something anti-natural for a human being. It needs some adaptations like: stand in just one leg, develop a specific motor cordination, re-study the notion about distance,etc.
Diferent from a punch, once the leg lost contact with the ground and start its way to hit, the distance can not be ajusted anymore if the opponent step back. Thats why, the number of kicks that hits during a combat is less than the number of punches that hits.
The leg is a lot stronger than the arms, but also responds for 33,23% of our body weight, what increases the necessary strengh to take it from inertia and slow down its speed.





The Kicks in Ving Tsun.

A lot of people think that Ving Tsun does not care about kicks. It is not true. The fact that many people think that is just because those people just know a part of the Ving Tsun, normally the Siu Nim Tau, the first form (Kuen To) of the system. In this form, it is developted the sustenance, the standing balance and the person starts to work the distance, everything is work on Yi Ji Kim Yeung Ma standing position that is static.

The kicks also uses the principle of Center Line and the support of the other leg, like when we use an arm helpping the other. It must be used in a relaxed and natural way. 'Cause this kick looks like a step when you´re walking, so , as smooth and soft it can be, more effective it will be.

The kicks are only developted in more advanced stages in the system, 'cause the practitioners must first know the strategical basics and earn the necessary atributes, like neuromuscular control, balance, distance, and know the standing positions wich will allow them to kick in a effective way.


The Simplicity.

Again what rules is the simplicity. "Registred mark" of Ving Tsun.
The kicks looks like the movements of a compass, where the distance between the leg and the opponent is shortest once your kick is higher. 
So, we see that the more ffective kicks are those wich is launched 'till your waist height that is the largest range of the kick.

But the favorite ones is launched to the opponent's knees , 'cause those ones are fastest and effective, and also let the opponent out of fight with just a little damage.

A lot of people talks about Ving Tsun having just one kick: the Ding Geuk. Indeed, it is very important 'cause this kick works all the strategy of Ving tsun, 'cause in most of the cases, is the simple and direct way. with very good results and less energy and effort waisted.

But all this work starts during the standing postions moment that are many: Those standing positions just allow us to train the balance and distance.But its also can be used as tools to unbalance the opponent.

So, all the work with Legs in Ving Tsun, as all theories comes from Chi Geuk, the sensibility trainning for legs, that works like a lab where the practitioner increases his perception about Ving tsun.
