An essay on the latest "Remote Distance Meetings" : "HOW ARE YOU, SI FU?"

Si Fu tem a estranha mania de desconstruir os pensamentos de seus To Dai. Não porque ele quer, mas porque assim como numa prática de "Chi Sau", um braço tensionado é um "prato cheio" para o adversário atento. Si Fu gosta de trazer aos seus To Dai, novas perspectivas que os ajudem a ressignificar o seu pensamento "fixo", "automático" ou "cartesiano"- "É importante se deixar atravessar pelo pensamento do outro..." - Diz ele. Ao longo dos anos, não faltaram oportunidades nas quais Si Fu perguntava a algum novato: "Você já reparou que quando você passa por alguém e pergunta 'Tudo bem?' , a outra pessoa não responde e você não se incomoda dela não ter respondido..."- Aí ele costuma dar uma risada como se fosse a primeira vez que isso lhe ocorresse e completa: "...E o pior: Ela te pergunta 'Tudo bem?', você também não responde, ela não se incomoda de você não ter respondido, os dois vão embora e é isso..." - Nessa altura a audiência já está rindo e Si Fu geralmente conta depois a história do Si Suk Diego no elevador com uma senhora que perguntou a ele: "Tudo bem?" - Logo depois dele ter escutado essa história.
E por falar em perguntar se alguém está bem, como será que anda o Si Fu? Qual foi a última vez entramos em contato para lhe perguntar: "Oi, Si Fu. Tudo bem?" - Não para iniciar o assunto principal(Como qualquer pessoa faria), mas para honestamente saber se ele esta bem?
Recentemente, já foram umas três vezes em que entro "on line" com Si Fu já com a energia voltada para o tema que vamos tratar e ele com muita calma diz: "Oi Thiago, tudo bem com você?". Às vezes, mesmo assim eu não entendo o que está acontecendo e Si Fu diz: "Como estão as coisas?". Quando nem assim, eu noto, ele finalmente diz: "Então vamos lá! Qual o tema de hoje?".
Nos "Encontros Remotos à Distância", desde que a quarentena começou, vi Si Fu mudar seu estilo por diversas vezes na condução desse processo. Porém ele tem feito algo curioso: Geralmente quando entramos "on line" mais cedo ou estamos esperando mais alguém se conectar. Ele vai perguntando para cada um: "Tudo bem?"ou "Como você está?". Dependendo do que a pessoa responde, ele faz algum comentário divertido, sorri e todos sorriem com ele. Às vezes parece que Si Fu mora dentro do "Google Meeting", pois nenhum dos presentes pergunta de volta: "E o senhor, Si Fu? Tudo bem com o senhor?"- E isso me inclui. Eu ainda preciso trabalhar mais minha sensibilidade para estas coisas.
Si Fu às vezes aparece tomando sopa, comendo alguma coisa, ou bebendo alguma coisa. Não existe falta de respeito aos presentes quando ele faz isso. Ele sinaliza que vai comer e brinca: "Hoje eu 'tô comendo camarão! Alguém está servido?" ou ainda "Vai falando que enquanto isso eu vou tomar minha 'sopinha'." - Todos riem, mas me pergunto como está o tempo do Si Fu, como está a agenda dele. Pois como sua energia é muito grande, ele sempre parece estar pleno e cheio de vitalidade. às vezes reclamo com ele: "Si Fu, se o senhor parecer que está bem, as pessoas não vão entender a situação..." - Ele responde com um "sarcasmo educativo": "Desculpe se não sou dramático, Thiago, Vou me esforçar."
Em nosso último "Encontro Remoto" na noite de Quarta-feira, tivemos a presença de nossa Si Suk Inês Braconnot. Si Fu dedicou um tempo para acolhe-la, não só apresentando ela para os que não a conheciam, e passando a palavra para que ela própria se apresentasse, mas criando um ambiente tão agradável, que ela naturalmente poderia se sentir bem-vinda para retornar. Essa interminável disposição de Si Fu para fazer seu melhor para a Família, pode fazer os mais incautos esquecerem de uma coisa básica que fazemos até mesmo com estranhos em nosso dia a dia: Que é o simples ato de perguntar: "Oi, Si Fu. Tudo bem com o senhor?"

Sometimes, even then, I don't understand what's going on and Si Fu says, "How are you doin'?" When I don't even notice it, he finally says, "So come on! What's today's topic?"

In the "Remote Distance Meetings", since the quarantine began, I saw Si Fu change his style several times in the conduct of this process. However, he has done something curious: Usually when we go online sooner or we are waiting for someone else to connect. He asks each one, "How are you?" . Depending on what the person responds to, he makes some amusing comment, smiles and everyone smiles with him. Sometimes it seems that Si Fu lives inside the "Google Meeting", because none of those present asks back: "What about you, Si Fu? How are you" - And that includes me. I still need to work on my sensitivity to these things.
Si Fu sometimes shows up eating soup, eating something, or drinking something. There is no lack of respect for those present when he does this. He signals that he is going to eat and jokes: "Today I'm eating shrimp! Is anyone served?" or "Go ahead and talk. In the meantime I'm going to have my soup." - Everyone laughs, but I wonder how Si Fu is doing, what his schedule is like. Because his energy is so great, he always seems to be full and full of vitality. sometimes I complain to him: "Si Fu, if you seem to be doing well, people will not understand the situation ..." - He replies with an "educational sarcasm": "Sorry if I'm not dramatic, Thiago, I'm going strive about this topic. "
In our last "Remote Meeting" on Wednesday night, we had the presence of our Si Suk Inês Braconnot. Si Fu took the time to welcome her, not only introducing her to those who did not know her, and giving the floor to her to introduce herself, but creating an atmosphere so pleasant that she could naturally feel welcome to return . This endless willingness of Si Fu to do his best for the Family, can make the most unwary forget about a basic thing that we do even with strangers in our daily lives: That is the simple act of asking: "Hi, Si Fu. MASTER JULIO CAMACHO´S "BAAI SI": Kung Fu Name, Types of Disciples, Kung Fu Life and more!

 

Nessa semana comemoramos uma data muito importante, os 24 anos da Cerimônia de Discipulado  de meu Mestre Julio Camacho, um dos membros mais importantes da Moy Yat Ving Tsun Martial Intelligence na América Latina.

This week we celebrated a very important date, the 24th anniversary of the Discipleship Ceremony of my Master Julio Camacho, one of the most important members of Moy Yat Ving Tsun Martial Intelligence in Latin America.

拜 Baai - Siginifica, literalmente, "fazer reverência".
師 Si - É o mesmo "Si" de "Si Fu" ou "Si Hing" . Que pode significar "especialista em algo" ou "Mestre".
Assim, "Baai Si"(拜師) significa "reverenciar o Mestre".
Pode-se dizer que esta é a Cerimônia mais importante da carreira de um praticante, pois ela estabelece a relação vitalícia entre Mestre e Discípulo.
Assim sendo, o praticante que teve o reconhecimento formal, via Cerimônia de Discipulado 

"Baai Si"(拜師), de sua relação familiar vitalícia, com seu Mestre,  tradicionalmente, é chamado de Dai Ji(弟子).

拜 Baai - It literally means "to bow".

師 Si - It is the same "Si" as "Si Fu" or "Si Hing". Which can mean "expert on something" or "Master".

Thus, "Baai Si" (拜師) means "to revere the Master".

It can be said that this is the most important Ceremony of a practitioner's career, as it establishes the lifelong relationship between Master and Disciple.

Therefore, the practitioner who had formal recognition, via Discipleship Ceremony

"Baai Si" (拜師), with his Master, will be considered a Dai Ji (弟子).

A partir de 1997, meu Mestre Julio Camacho passa a acompanhar seu Mestre Leo Imamura, em suas viagens internacionais. Estes foram, e continuam sendo, momentos importantes do que chamamos de Vida Kung-Fu, pois além de todos os benefícios, Mestre Julio Camacho teve a oportunidade de criar vínculos inclusive com Patriarca Moy Yat, Mestre de seu Mestre.(FOTO)

Este tipo de viagem, além de possibilitou ao meu Mestre ter cada vez mais contato e entrar numa sintonia maior com seu Mestre através de uma convivência de praticamente 24 horas por dia durante anos, fez com que ele também pudesse conhecer vários membros seniors da Moy Yat Ving Tsun, praticantes mais antigos do que seu próprio Mestre, e com eles também desenvolver a Vida Kung Fu. Como vemos nessa foto dele com Grã-Mestre Pete Pajil e sua filha nos anos 90.

This type of trip, in addition to allowing my Master to have more and more contact and to become more in tune with his Master through a coexistence of almost 24 hours a day for years, made him also able to meet several senior members of Moy Yat Ving Tsun, practitioners older than his own Master, and with them also develop Kung Fu Life. O Registro Genealógico (juk po 族譜):

O   Registro Genealógico (juk po 族譜) estabelece a história, a identidade e a união de várias gerações de discípulos, desde a Fundadora até seus descendentes presentes.
Ao  seguir os Preceitos de Genealogia do Programa  Moy Yat Ving Tsun de Inteligência Marcial, cada líder de família poderá oferecer uma genealogia de qualidade para seus descendentes.

Para entrar no Registro Genealógico, deve-se ter um nome chinês. Por isso, ao longo do processo discipular, o membro ganha o que chamamos "Nome Kung Fu".

The Genealogical Record (juk po 族譜):

The Genealogical Record (juk po 族譜) establishes the history, identity and union of several generations of disciples, from the Founder to her descendants present.

By following the Genealogy Precepts of the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Program of Martial Intelligence, each family leader will be able to offer a quality genealogy for their descendants.

To enter the Genealogical Register, you must have a Chinese name. That is why, during the discipleship process, the member receives what we call " Kung Fu Name".

A Cerimônia de Discipulado "Baai Si"(拜師) de meu Mestre Julio Camacho ocorreu no antigo Núcleo Central de nossa instituição em São Paulo. Naquele dia, Patriarca Moy Yat(FOTO), exímio inscultor de carimbos chineses(Registros Sigilares), precisava de uma ferramenta para preparar os carimbos dos discipulandos em pedra , e em cima da hora, coube ameu Mestre e seu irmão Kung-Fu , Mestre Marcello Abreu, a tarefa de encontrarem esta ferramenta pelas ruas de São Paulo.

The "Baai Si" (拜師) (Discipleship Ceremony) of my Master took place in the old Central Headquarter of our institution in São Paulo. That day, Patriarch Moy Yat (PHOTO), an excellent artist of Chinese stone seals , needed a tool to prepare the stamps of the disciples in stone, and at the last minute, it was up to my Master and his  Kung -Fu brother Master Marcello Abreu the task of finding this tool through the streets of São Paulo.

Essas camisas que vemos na foto foram dadas, à Mestre Julio e Marcelo Abreu com a moldura em branco em seu centro. E foi o Patriarca quem fez as pinturas de um bambu na camisa de meu mestre, e de um ramo com flores de ameixa na camisa de Mestre Marcelo Abreu. O motivo, segundo Patriarca  Moy Yat: "Vocês são como a flor de ameixa e o bambú: sempre juntos, sempre amigos!"

NOME KUNG FU:

O nome Kung-Fu é desenvolvido, muitas vezes, a partir do som do nome da pessoa, encontrando ideogramas similares. Mesmo assim, ideogramas chineses, ainda que diferentes, possuem uma mesma pronúncia. Por isso, os ideogramas devem ser escolhidos com critério, o que vai acabar refletindo uma característica da pessoa e uma advertência (ou ponto a melhorar).

梅祖利奧 Moy Jo Lei Ou significa:

梅(Moy) - É o nome de Família de Moy Yat. Ao dá-lo a um descendente , simbolicamente, é como se Moy Yat adotasse essa pessoa.Sendo Mestre Julio seu discípulo de segunda geração, Moy Yat na condição de descendente legitimo do Ving Tsun, dá esta mesma condição ao discipulo de seu discipulo.

祖(Jo)- signifca "Ancestral".

利(Lei) - pode ser traduzido como "Honrar" (beneficiar,vantagem)

奧(Ou) - significa "mistério" podendo ser estendido a "segredo".

Você pode traduzir de diversas maneiras como:
"O Moy que honra o segredo dos ancestrais."

THE KUNG FU NAME:

The Kung-Fu name is often developed from the sound of the person's name, finding similar ideograms. Even so, Chinese ideograms, although different, have the same pronunciation. Therefore, ideograms must be chosen with discretion, which will end up reflecting a person's characteristic and a warning (or point to improve).

梅祖利奧 Moy Jo Lei Ou means:

梅 (Moy) - It is the family name of Moy Yat. By giving it to a descendant, symbolically, it is as if Moy Yat adopted that person. Being Master Julio his second generation disciple, Moy Yat as the legitimate descendant of Ving Tsun, gives this same condition to his disciple's disciple.

祖 (Jo) - means "Ancestral".
利 (Law) - can be translated as "Honor" (benefit, advantage)
奧 (Or) - means "mystery" and can be extended to "secret".
You can translate in several ways like:

"The Moy who honors the secret of the ancestors."

A fim de honrar seu Mestre,Grão Mestre Leo Imamura preferia que seus alunos/seguidores [ToDai(徒弟)] fizessem a Cerimônia de Discipulado[ "Baai Si"(拜師)] também com Patriarca Moy Yat, e assim, simbolicamente, reforçassem esse vinculo com o Líder da Linhagem .(FOTO)

Quando o Mestre bebe o chá oferecido pelo discípulo, está estabelecida uma relação vitalícia entre os dois.

My Master Julio Camacho touches his legs, his two hands and his forehead on the ground three times before Patriarch Moy Yat, as a maximum symbol of reverence in Chinese culture, which shows the honor of becoming that person's legitimate descendant.

Meu Mestre Julio Camacho, nos anos seguintes, continuou honrando seu compromisso estabelecido com seu Mestre, o acompanhando em suas viagens internacionais (vemos na foto os dois ao lado do renomado Grão- Mestre  ,o lendário Sr. Micky Chan). Mas principalmente,meu Mestre sempre fala em estar em sintonia com seu Mestre, ainda que ambos morem em países diferentes.

My Master Julio Camacho, in the following years, continued to honor his commitment established with his Master, accompanying him on his international trips (we see in the photo the two together with the renowned Grand Master, the legendary Mr. Micky Chan). But mainly, my Master always talks about being in tune with his Master, even though both live in different countries.

 Meu Mestre, nas quase 20 viagens que fez a NY sempre fica hospedado na casa de
Grão-Mestre Miguel Hernandez. Na foto acima, vemos os dois praticando Chi Sau na loja esportiva deste último.

My Master, in the almost 20 trips he made to NY he always stays at Grand Master Miguel Hernandez's place. In the picture above, we see the two practicing Chi Sau in the latter's sports shop.

Meu Mestre (a esquerda na foto) investiu muito de seu tempo na Vida Kung-Fu com Grão-Mestre Leo Imamura, e graças a isso, participou de momentos que mais tarde se tornariam lendários dentro do Clã, como a famosa visita a esta escola de outra arte marcial no Kentucky,EUA.

My Master (left in the photo) invested a lot of his time in Kung-Fu Life with Grand Master Leo Imamura, and thanks to that, he participated in moments that would later become legendary within the Clan, such as the famous visit to this school of another martial art in Kentucky, USA.

Recebeu inúmeras lembranças, muitas delas feitas pelas próprias mãos de Patriarca Moy Yat.

Com relação ao Discipulado["Baai Si"(拜師)], a manutenção e reforço deste vinculo vai, naturalmente com o decorrer do tempo, colocá-los em diferentes níveis dentro desta relação, ou ainda que não seja este o caso, os discípulos são categorizados de acordo com sua origem ou natureza:

With regard to Discipleship ["Baai Si" (拜師)], the maintenance and strengthening of this link will, naturally over time, place them at different levels within this relationship, or even if this is not the case, the disciples are categorized according to their origin or nature:

"Discípulo de Portas Abertas"(Hoi Mun Dai Ji)

"Hoi Mun Dai Ji" é o "discípulo de portas abertas". Por "portas" leia "Família" ou leia "Portas" como o objeto em si, mas nesse caso "portas abertas para discípulos".
Isso quer dizer que enquanto o Mestre não se aposenta de suas atividades, "as portas de sua 

Família Kung Fu estão abertas".

"Open Door Disciple" (Hoi Mun Dai Ji)

"Hoi Mun Dai Ji" is the "disciple with open doors". For "doors" read "Family" or read "Doors" as the object itself, but in this case "open doors for disciples".

This means that while the Master does not retire from his activities, "the doors of his

Kung Fu family are open ".

"Discípulo de Portas Fechadas"(Gwaan Mun Dai Ji)

Quando o Mestre se aposenta, ele não aceita mais discípulos. Portanto, as "portas se fecham". Porém, ocorrem exceções, e a mais famosa delas foi justamente Ip Man.
Ip Man começou seu Kung Fu quando seu Mestre Chan Wah Shun já estava aposentado. Por isso, Ip Man é um "Discípulo de Portas Fechadas"

"Closed Door Disciple" (Gwaan Mun Dai Ji)

When the Master retires, he no longer accepts disciples. Therefore, the "doors close". However, there are exceptions, the most famous of which was Ip Man.

Ip Man started his Kung Fu when his Master Chan Wah Shun was already retired. For this reason, Ip Man is a "Closed Door Disciple"

"Discípulo que entra na sala"(Yap Sat Dai Ji)

Um discípulo que tem muita proximidade com o Mestre está livre para entrar em recintos do local de treino (Mo Gun) ou da própria casa do Mestre, o que um discípulo comum não poderia.

A disciple who is very close to the Master is free to enter the training area (Mo Gun) or the Master's own house, which an ordinary disciple could not.

Interessante dizer que, mesmo após se tornar um Mestre Classe Senior,meu Mestre continua honrando seu compromisso estabelecido em 1996 com seu Mestre, o Sr. Leo Imamura.
Ainda que os conteúdos do sistema tenham sido todos recebidos por ele, meu mestre acredita que apenas o convívio e a sintonia com seu Mestre. Cada vez mais farão dele um praticamente melhor, bem como, um homem melhor.

It is interesting to say that, even after becoming a  Senior Master, my Master continues to honor his commitment established in 1996 with his Master, Mr. Leo Imamura.

Even though the contents of the system have all been received by him, my master believes that it is only coexistence and attunement with his Master. More and more will make him better practitioner, as well as, a better man.

Recentemente Si Fu tomou por decisão, entregar as salas do Núcleo Barra da Tijuca, as quais abrigavam a Casa da Família Kung Fu da Família Moy Jo Lei Ou(da qual ele é Líder). E depois de mais de vinte anos, acompanhei uma série de mudanças de locais e vivi as minhas histórias com Si Fu e a Família Kung Fu em cada uma deles.

Recently Si Fu made the decision leave the rooms of the MYVT Barra School, which housed the Kung Fu Family House of the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family (of which he is the Leader). And after more than twenty years, I followed a series of change of rooms in different locations and lived my stories with Si Fu and the Kung Fu Family in each one.

Neste processo de mudança, uma liderança muito especial que tem se apresentado é a discípula de Si Fu chamada Carmen Maris(Foto). Devido a sua dedicação, provavelmente ela ainda será muito citada aqui na página. Carmen está à frente desde a desmontagem da sala até a negociação com os proprietários.
Sobre a minha participação nessa mudança, honestamente não estava reconhecendo uma maneira de participar de maneira mais decisiva. Consultei Si Fu e ele disse algo bem marcante: "É preciso entender que sua participação nem sempre vai envolver você estar no volante do carro." - Si Fu complementou - "É importante humildemente reconhecer, que às vezes você não será a pessoa mais experiente no grupo para um determinado tema". - Si Fu então lembrou-me de quando ao alugar a primeira sala no Méier, eu comemorei a renovação do meu contraro (Muitos risos), algo que ocorre automaticamente. Confesso que quando ouvi esse áudio, por não lembrar dessa passagem, dei uma boa gargalhada.

In this process of preparing the rooms to give it back to the real estate, a very special leadership that has appeared is Si Fu's disciple called Carmen Maris (Photo). Regarding my participation in this process, I honestly was not recognizing a way to participate more decisively. Apesar de alguns dos itens do Mo Gun da Família Moy Jo Lei Ou terem ido para a casa de outros discípulos. Para minha alegria, a grande maioria ficará guardada no Mo Gun de minha Família.

Although some of the items from the Mo Gun of the Moy Jo Lei family went to the home of other disciples. To my delight, the vast majority will be kept in my family's Mo Gun.

Minha discípula Caroline, que reside no Mo Gun, organizou esse itens na mesma noite em que eles chegaram. Ela tentou inseri-los em nosso Mo Gun de forma harmônica, como se eles sempre estivessem ali. Foi uma surpresa boa quando cheguei na manhã do dia seguinte, e me deparei com esses itens. Meu outro discípulo, Rodrigo Caputo, ao me visitar na última Sexta disse:"O Mo Gun ficou mais bonito".

My disciple Caroline, who resides at Mo Gun, organized these items the same night they arrived. She tried to insert them into our Mo Gun in a harmonic way, as if they were always there. It was a good surprise when I arrived the next morning, and I came across these items. My other disciple, Rodrigo Caputo, when visiting me last Friday said: "Our Mo Gun is more beautiful".

Na mesa ancestral por exemplo, achamos por bem colocar as cadeiras (Gau Yi) da Família Moy Jo Lei Ou no lugar das que usamos em nosso Mo Gun. Pois assim o estofado das mesmas será preservado de poeira e umidade.
Além disso, por alguma razão misteriosa, essas cadeiras por terem seu estofado feito pela minha irmã Kung Fu Paula Gama por volta de 2006, me remetem à um dos meus períodos preferidos da minha relação com meu Si Fu. Sendo assim, olhar essas cadeiras ali, me fazem sentir o Si Fu mais próximo também, mesmo estando tão longe nos EUA.

At the ancestral table, for example, we thought it best to place the chairs (Gau Yi) of the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family in place of the ones we use in our Mo Gun. So the upholstery will be preserved from dust and moisture.
Furthermore, for some mysterious reason, these chairs, having their upholstery made by my Kung Fu Paula Gama sister  around 2006, remind me of one of my favorite periods of my relationship with my Si Fu. So, looking at these chairs over there, makes me feel Si Fu more closer, even being so distant in USA.

De todos os itens que vieram para o Mo Gun de minha Família, manipulei deliberadamente a vinda da máquina da Nespresso(Risos). Agora sim, estamos mais preparados para a quarentena(Risos).

Of all the items that came to my family's Mo Gun, I deliberately manipulated the coming of the Nespresso machine (Laughter). Now, we are better prepared for quarantine (Laughter).

O Si Gung fala que um líder precisa aprender a "sentir as coisas no ar". E para quem passa muito tempo dentro de um Mo Gun, ou que tem a oportunidade de morar em um como eu estou tendo(novamente). Sabe que existe uma energia no Mo Gun. E foi muito mágico perceber mais do que uma mudança de energia com a chegada destes itens, mas sim uma espécie de "boost", uma energia somada ou aumentada a que já estava ali. É algo indescritível.

Si Gung says that a leader must learn to "feel things in the air". And for those who spend a lot of time inside a Mo Gun, or who have the opportunity to live in one like I am having (again). You know there's an energy in Mo Gun. And it was very magical to perceive more than a change in energy with the arrival of these items, but rather a kind of "boost", an energy added or increased to what was already there. It is indescribable.

MASTER JULIO CAMACHO'S 50 YEARS : PART 1 OF 4 (A MASTER´S TALK)

As celebrações do casamento de Si Fu e Si Mo, bem como a celebração dos cinquenta anos de idade de Si Fu. Ocorreram num incrível salão harmonizado com luzes e sons especialmente preparados para a ocasião. Por falar em música, uma leve melodia se repetia bem baixinho. Ela me lembrava a música tema do jogo de Dreamcast "Shenmue"(a partir dos 30s). Mas era uma composição do meu irmão Kung Fu Flavio Jesus muito bem feita!

Sentei-me com minha professora de chinês, Sra Lily Ou Yee Fen, em uma das mesas. E tomamos um tempo para admirar todo o local. O telão, mostrava a logo oficial do evento. Mais tarde, imagens de uma campanha publicitária com membros de nossa Famíilia falando de suas vidas, e como se encontram mesmo com vidas tão diferentes no Mo Gun, ficou sendo veiculada.

Si Fu and Si Mo's wedding celebrations, as well as Si Fu's fifty-year-old celebration. They took place in an incredible hall harmonized with lights and sounds specially prepared for the occasion. Speaking of music, a faint melody was repeated very quietly. It reminded me of the theme song of the Dreamcast game "Shenmue" .. But it was a composition of my brother Kung Fu Flavio Jesus.
I sat with my Chinese teacher, Mrs. Lily Ou Yee Fen, at one of the tables. And we took the time to admire the whole place. The big screen showed the official logo of the event. Later, images of an advertising campaign with members of our Family talking about their lives, and how they really live with such different lives at Mo Gun, was on the screen.

As mesas eram compostas por um arranjo floral maravilhoso, uma toalha de mesa com estampas elegantes e um cartão indicando o nome de cada um (foto). Os garçons não paravam de seguir trazendo pratos e bebidas. Em meio àquele momento, me veio à mente os aniversários do Si Taai Gung Moy Yat e Si Taai Po Helen Moy em Nova Iorque. Pois apesar de nunca ter ido em nenhuma destas celebrações, de tanto ouvir as histórias, é como se já tivesse estado lá. Pensei que que nossa Família atingira um novo nível neste evento. E por alguma razão misteriosa, pensei nas celebrações de Nova Iorque, as quais meu Si Fu presenciava pela primeira vez em 1997. E agora, seu próprio Clã provia algo tão digno quanto.
E naquele mar de mesas, toalhas e arranjos com iluminação focal. Cada mesa era de certa forma um microcosmo. E ladeado por meu Si Hing Leonardo Reis, iniciamos uma longa conversa.

The tables were made up of a wonderful floral arrangement, an elegantly printed tablecloth and a card indicating each one's name (photo). The waiters kept on following. In the midst of that moment came to mind the birthdays of Si Taai Gung Moy Yat and Si Taai Po Helen Moy in New York. For although I have never been to any of these celebrations, from hearing the stories so much, it is as if I had already been there. I thought that our Family had reached a new level in this kind of event that night. And for some mysterious reason, I thought of the New York celebrations, which my Si Fu first witnessed in 1997. And now, his own Clan provided something as dignified as that.
And in that sea of tables, tablecloths and arrangements with focal lighting. Each table was somehow a microcosm. And flanked by my Si Hing Leonardo Reis, we started a long conversation.

Para puxar conversa, perguntei à ele se estava animado com o novo filme da franquia "Star Wars". Eu já sabia que não, mas só queria implicar. Falamos então de filmes, falamos de nossa expectativa com "The Witcher" da Netflix, e foi quando perguntei à ele sobre como havia sido a viagem a Argentina. A partir daquele ponto, para minha surpresa, meu Si Hing Leonardo parecia ter muito o que me falar. E por conta disso, ouvi mais do que falei, como já não fazia a muito tempo.
Discutimos sobre desenhos de facas e sua funcionalidade e uso.Esse primeiro assunto durou quase trinta minutos. Depois disso, Si Hing frisou a importância de que eu me faça mais presente no Mo Gun da Família Moy Jo Lei Ou (da qual fazemos parte) e em atividades relacionadas ao Domínio "Baat Jaam Do". Fez também algumas colocações mais contundentes à respeito da minha trajetória passada, presente e futura dentro da Família. E por fim, fez alguns "wake up calls" muito poderosos.
Confesso que fiquei surpreendido. Foi um momento e tanto de nossa relação.
Às homenagens se sucediam no telão, mas nós estávamos em nosso próprio mundo ali naquele momento. E no fundo, nunca gostei muito de sentar à mesa principal com os outros mestres. Preferia sempre as mesas onde as risadas são mais altas. Mas naquela noite, fiquei feliz de estar sentado à mesa principal com meu Si Hing.

To start a conversation, I asked him if he was excited about the new Star Wars franchise movie. I already knew he would not be, but I just wanted to joke. So we talked about movies, we talked about our expectation with Netflix's "The Witcher," and that's when I asked him what the trip to Argentina had been like. From that point, to my surprise, my Si Hing Leonardo seemed to have a lot to tell me. And because of that, I heard more than I said, as I hadn't done for a long time.
We discussed knife designs and their functionality and use. This first subject lasted nearly thirty minutes. After that, Si Hing stressed the importance that I be more present in the Mo Gun of the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family (of which we are a part) and in activities related to the "Baat Jaam Do" Domain. He also made some striking statements about my past, present, and future trajectory within the Family. And finally, he made some very powerful wake up calls.
I confess that I was surprised. It was quite a moment of our relationship.
Honors followed on the big screen, but we were in our own world there at that moment. And deep down, I never really enjoyed sitting at the main table with the other masters. I always preferred the tables where the laughs are highest. But that night, I was glad to be seated at the head table with my Si Hing.
