Why does GM Leo Imamura not give up?

 

Existe um viaduto que liga uma região do Rio considerada "terra dos bambas" ao bairro de Rocha Miranda. Quando eu subo com o carro por aquele viaduto, por alguns segundos é possível ver boa parte do bairro onde cresci, então me sinto em casa. Por um breve momento, os problemas da vida parecem desaparecer. Recentemente, porém, o bairro ficou mais perigoso, meu melhor amigo tem muitas  atividades e não tem tido tempo e até o restaurante onde costumávamos almoçar aos domingos fechou.

Talvez seja por isso que, sentado com a luz do sol nos meus olhos em uma mesa na Padaria Manhattan na manhã desta sexta-feira, ao ver Si Gung caminhando em nossa direção, onde eu e meu discípulo Lucas o aguardávamos, tive um sentimento semelhante ao do viaduto. Me senti em casa. Me dirigi até a porta para pegar a mala do Si Gung e cumprimentá-lo; ele chegou com um sorriso. Não sabia que horas ele tinha ido dormir ou o quão cansado estava, mas parecia feliz em nos ver. Assim que se sentou, lembrei que ainda não havia feito os pedidos, mas ele não me chamou atenção por isso. Sua simples presença já era suficiente para nos elevar a outro nível de atenção. Sem sermões, sem lições, sem assuntos que não estivessem ligados diretamente ao nosso trabalho, em poucos segundos Si Gung nos transportou para a "Dimensão Kung Fu". Seu café da manhã acabou rapidamente, mas ele não fez menção de ir embora. Continuava discutindo assuntos determinantes e relevantes sobre nosso presente e futuro, deixando claro com sua atitude que não estava ali apenas para comer. Já ouvi dizer que "casa é onde o coração está".

There is a viaduct that connects a region of Rio known as "Samba´s masters land" to the Rocha Miranda wild neighborhood. When I drive up that viaduct, for a few seconds I can see much of the neighborhood where I grew up, and I feel at home. For a brief moment, life's problems seem to disappear. Recently, however, the Rocha Miranda has become more dangerous, my best friend has many commitments and hasn't had time, and even the restaurant where we used to have Sunday lunches has closed.

Perhaps that's why, sitting with the sunlight in my eyes at a table in Manhattan Bakery on Friday morning, when I saw Si Gung walking towards us, where my disciple Lucas and I were waiting, I had a feeling similar to when I drive over that viaduct towards Rocha Miranda neighborhood. I felt at home right there. I walked up to the door to greet Si Gung and fetch his suitcase; he arrived with a smile. I didn't know what time he had gone to bed or how tired he was, but he seemed happy to see us. Once he sat down, I remembered I hadn't even taken our orders yet, but he didn't admonish me for it. His mere presence was enough to elevate our attention to another level. Without sermons, without lessons, without discussing anything unrelated to our work, Si Gung swiftly transported us to the "Kung Fu Dimension". His breakfast ended quickly, but he showed no intention of leaving. He continued to discuss pivotal and pertinent matters about our present and future, clearly indicating through his demeanor that he wasn't there just to eat. I've heard someone said that "home is where the heart is."

Começamos a manhã com um verdadeiro presente, que foi a oportunidade de observar Si Gung conduzindo um Momento Programado de Acesso. Observar Si Gung trabalhar faz com que você se sinta envergonhado pela sua ética de trabalho na transmissão do Sistema Ving Tsun(Seja ela qual for). O nível de atenção aos detalhes e sua maneira de incentivar a excelência (sem forçar) obrigam quem está assistindo a lembrar-se de  se doar tanto quanto ele ao estudo do Sistema. De fato, fiquei muito tocado ao vê-lo levantar-se para dar detalhes sobre o "Siu Nim Tau" (foto acima) da maneira como fez. Estavam presentes três mestres e, mesmo assim, ele fez questão de fazê-lo. Foi algo muito especial.

We started the morning with a true gift, which was the opportunity to observe Si Gung leading a class. Watching Si Gung work makes you feel ashamed of your work ethic in passing down the Ving Tsun System (whichever it may be). The level of attention to detail and his way of encouraging excellence (without forcing it) compel those watching to remember not to give any less effort than he does in studying the System. In fact, I was deeply moved to see him rise to provide details about the "Siu Nim Tau" (photo above) in the manner he did. There were three masters present, and yet he made a point of doing so. It was something very special.

Em momentos como esse, eu naturalmente esvazio o coração em relação a tudo que penso saber, e ouço as orientações do Si Gung como se estivesse ouvindo sobre o "Cham Kiu" pela primeira vez. Desde a ordem dos tutores até os apontamentos, tudo é feito com muito cuidado, coerência e zelo. Você não se sente exposto e por não temer "perder a cara", pode permitir que o eterno aprendiz que carrega dentro de si tome a frente. Hoje ouvi Si Gung dizer: "O tempo que o discípulo... Que o praticante disponibiliza... Ele precisa valer ouro para nós..." E de fato, ele faz isso a cada segundo. Então, você poderia me ver ali pensando: "Ei! Deixa eu prestar atenção nisso para não esquecer..."

In moments like these, I naturally empty my heart regarding everything I think I know, and I listen to Si Gung's guidance as if hearing about "Cham Kiu" for the first time. From the order of the tutors to the orientations, everything is done with great care, coherence, and zeal. You don't feel exposed and, by not fearing "losing face", you can let the eternal apprentice within take the lead. Today, I heard Si Gung say, "The time that the disciple... that the practitioner makes available... it needs to be worth its weight in gold to us..." And indeed, he does this every second. So you could see me there thinking, "Hey! Let me pay attention to this so I don't forget..."

Si Gung aproveita suas visitas a São Paulo para dedicar tempo aos seus pais e resolver questões particulares com eles. Ele também abre sua vida para que possamos estar presentes nesses momentos. "E aí, Pereira? Onde você quer almoçar hoje?", perguntou ele, como costuma fazer. Devido à minha "fase Coreia", inspirada na riqueza cultural que tenho aprendido com meu querido amigo Choi Ki Hon em São Paulo, sugeri mais uma vez um restaurante coreano. E lá estávamos todos nós! Durante o trajeto, pude conversar com Si Gung sobre livros de artes marciais e cultura chinesa. Si Gung geralmente relaciona o assunto com algum tema que direcione a salvaguarda do Sistema Ving Tsun e como podemos entender melhor essa missão. Isso nos ajuda constantemente a não esquecer nossa missão e a deixar as amenidades para outro momento.

Si Gung takes advantage of his visits to São Paulo to spend time with his parents and resolve personal matters with them. He also opens up his life so that we can be present in these moments. "So, Pereira? Where do you want to have lunch today?" he asked, as he usually does. Due to my "Korea phase," inspired by the cultural richness I've been learning from my dear friend Choi Ki Hon from São Paulo, I suggested once again a Korean restaurant. And there we all were! During the journey, I was able to talk with Si Gung about martial arts books and Chinese culture. Si Gung typically relates the subject to some theme that directs the safeguarding of the Ving Tsun System and how to better understand this mission. This constantly helps us to not forget our mission and to leave the amenities for another time.

Voltamos para o Instituto Moy Yat onde conversamos e ele me incentivou mais uma vez a dedicar-me mais ao desenvolvimento do meu próprio entendimento sobre as coisas. Logo depois, acompanhei uma aula de Biu Ji com seu filho Lukas Imamura. Em seguida, fui com ele até a barbearia e conversamos mais sobre o momento do Grande Clã no caminho. Finalmente, quando voltamos, logo depois chegaram o Sensei Ricardo Leite e o Edson, que é praticante do Programa Ving Tsun Experience (foto acima à direita). Meu discípulo Lucas também chegou (foto acima à esquerda) e lá estava Si Gung novamente! A mesma energia que demonstrou às 8h quando chegou à padaria. E ali me perguntei: "Por que Si Gung não desiste?" - É uma pergunta válida, considerando todos os dissabores que a posição dele também proporciona. Porém, hoje mais cedo ele também havia falado comigo na mesma padaria: "Nossa diferença é que nós não trabalhamos... Nós amamos o que fazemos. Uma pessoa trabalha no que não gosta cinco dias por semana e precisa descomprimir no final de semana; quando a diferença entre os dias trabalhados e os de descanso se torna muito desproporcional, ela tira férias. Nós não tiramos férias... Nós amamos o que fazemos..."

We returned to Moy Yat Institute where we talked, and he once again encouraged me to dedicate myself more to developing my own understanding of things. Shortly after, I attended a Biu Ji class of his son Lukas Imamura. Afterwards, we went to the barber shop and discussed more about the current state of the Clan on the way. Finally, when we returned, Sensei Ricardo Leite and Edson, who is a practitioner in the Ving Tsun Experience Programme (photo top right), arrived soon after. My disciple Lucas also arrived (photo top left), and there was Si Gung again! The same energy he showed when he arrived at the bakery at 8 a.m. And there I wondered: "Why doesn't Si Gung give up?" - It's a valid question, considering all the challenges his position also brings. However, earlier today he had also spoken to me at the same bakery: "The difference between us is that we don't work... We love what we do. A person works at something they don't like five days a week and needs to unwind on the weekend; when the difference between working days and rest days becomes too disproportionate, they take holidays. We don't take holidays... We love what we do..."

Observar Si Gung trabalhar hoje mais uma vez foi muito inspirador. Sabe, eu consegui estar presente em cada momento, mesmo mais tarde quando ele deu uma entrevista ao Sensei Ricardo Leite, até nos despedirmos pouco antes da 1h da manhã. O sentimento que dura segundos quando subo o viaduto que liga os bairros de Madureira a Rocha Miranda, hoje durou o dia inteiro. Não havia problemas, não havia nada lá fora, apenas o encantamento renovado pelo Sistema que escolhi estudar há 25 anos. Eu sei que para você que está lendo, talvez não compreenda completamente o que estou tentando descrever. No entanto, Si Gung também disse hoje em sua entrevista: "...Simbologias existem para alcançarmos certas consciências que a simples descrição não alcança. Daí a diferença entre prosa e poesia..." 

Eu nunca desisti.

Watching Si Gung work today once again was deeply inspiring. You know, I managed to be fully present in every moment, even later when he gave an interview to Sensei Ricardo Leite, until we said goodbye shortly before 1 a.m. The fleeting feeling I get when I drive over the viaduct connecting the neighborhoods of Madureira(Samba´s masters land) to Rocha Miranda(my childhood neighborhood) lasted the entire day today. There were no issues, nothing outside mattered; there was only the renewed enchantment with the System I chose to study 25 years ago. I understand that for you, the reader, you may not fully grasp what I'm trying to describe. However, Si Gung also said in his interview today: "...Symbols exist to reach certain levels of consciousness that simple description cannot reach. Hence the difference between prose and poetry..."

Study of Level 6 with GM Leo: No more coffee with milk

Alguns poucos meses atrás, fiz um estudo do Nível 6 do Programa Ving Tsun Experience com o Si Gung. Foi um trabalho muito especial, no qual ele pôde compartilhar durante todo o processo uma série de detalhes que, para mim, soaram como total novidade no que diz respeito ao estudo do Sistema Ving Tsun. Existe uma possibilidade de compartilhamento de informações no Ving Tsun Experience, que ao ser realizado durante a jornada Kung Fu no Sistema Tradicional, pode acabar comprometendo a natureza do Domínio Baat Jaam Do, no qual a transmissão silenciosa alcança o seu ápice.

Eu costumava não entender a razão de existir do Programa Ving Tsun Experience, e estranhava a ênfase que era dada a ele. Depois de todo esse tempo mais próximo ao Si Gung, pude não só observar como esse programa é trabalhado por profissionais que seguem este programa, bem como observar como o próprio Si Gung faz uso dele e como ele o atualiza constantemente. Nessas horas, lembro de quando chegavam as atualizações do programa em meu email, por vezes eu nem abria, pois não compreendia sua importância. Hoje percebo o quanto cada linha que gera uma nova versão permite um trabalho mais consistente. Pude também presenciar a importância que os Mestres que seguem este programa dão para suas atualizações. - "...Achei que você fez muito bem quando abriu o arquivo e o leu junto com o Edson! A ideia é essa! Você não precisa perder tempo decorando a lista do Ving Tsun Experience, você já tem muita coisa para se preocupar no Sistema Tradicional, por isso o que você fez é exatamente a lógica do tutor do Ving Tsun Experience..." - Teria dito Si Gung naquela noite de Quinta.

 A few months ago, I conducted a study of Level 6 of the Ving Tsun Experience Program with Si Gung. It was a very special work, during which he could share throughout the process a series of details that sounded completely new to me regarding the study of the Ving Tsun System. There is a possibility of information sharing in the Ving Tsun Experience, which, when conducted during the Kung Fu journey in the Traditional System, may compromise the nature of the Baat Jaam Do Domain, in which silent transmission reaches its peak.

I used to not understand the reason for the existence of the Ving Tsun Experience Program and found the emphasis given to it strange. After spending more time with Si Gung, I could not only observe how this program is worked by professionals who follow it, but also observe how Si Gung himself uses it and updates it constantly. At those times, I remember when the program updates arrived in my email, sometimes I didn't even open them because I didn't understand their importance. Today, I realise how each line that generates a new version allows for more consistent work. I could also witness the importance that Masters who follow this program give to its updates. - "...I thought you did very well when you opened the file and read it with Edson! That's the idea! You don't need to waste time memorising the Ving Tsun Experience list, you already have a lot to worry about in the Traditional System, so what you did is exactly the logic of the Ving Tsun Experience tutor..." - Si Gung would have said on that Thursday night.

Procuro aprender com Si Gung a cada momento. Por exemplo: Ele sempre parece estar fazendo algo em seu notebook, e de fato está. Isso não muda o fato de que ele mantém uma atenção não somente ao que está sendo dito, mas ao que está ocorrendo. Por vezes ele levanta os olhos, levanta as sobrancelhas como quem presta atenção, fica balançando as pernas para dentro e para fora e, dependendo do que vê, levanta ou volta a digitar. Essa dinâmica me lembra o ano de 2006, quando eu assistia meu Si Fu com os MPA's da Paula Gama e suas filhas Anna e Adda. Naquelas tardes, elas estavam acessando o Domínio "Biu Ji". Si Fu sentava-se em sua cadeira, às vezes mexendo em seu computador, às vezes simplesmente observando o que acontecia. Para mim, era um processo muito importante, porque me sentia auxiliando apenas, levando em conta as limitações que tinha.

Da mesma maneira, na noite de Quinta ao mobilizar o Edson no Nível 6, incríveis 18 anos depois daquelas tardes de altas aventuras com o Si Fu no antigo Núcleo Barra, tenho condições de assistir o Si Gung sabendo que ele está monitorando. Afinal, quando retornar ao Rio, estarei por minha conta então considero sempre uma excelente oportunidade para aprender o que não fazer.

Tinha um cara que conheci em 2018, namorado de uma amiga, ele era vendedor e se autodenominava "águia". - "É que eu sou um cara 'águia'" - Dizia ele. Eu achava aquela lógica muito divertida, porque de fato ele era um vendedor sem igual. Você sentava com ele para comer um petisco e sentia vontade de comprar um ar condicionado, sabe-se lá porque. E eu me perguntava: "Será que em meu ramo, eu sou um cara águia?" . Sendo assim, meu contato recente com esses profissionais atentos em um nível águia, imediatamente me transformou em um "café com leite" nesse grupo. Ao contrário de me sentir mal, me senti muito motivado por ter agora a possibilidade de almejar novos níveis de compreensão sobre o Sistema e os Programas. Então, nesta noite de Quinta com o Edson, depois de dois anos de muito trabalho, estava finalmente fazendo um trabalho razoável dentro do que tinha de mais atualizado no Nível 6 do Programa Ving Tsun Experience. O Mestre Quintela costuma dizer que se você praticar por dez anos a partir de agora, serão dez anos de um estudo de alto nível. Então, é uma sensação muito boa de recomeço que venho experimentando e de redescobertas.

I seek to learn from Si Gung at every moment. For example: He always seems to be doing something on his notebook, and indeed he is. That doesn't change the fact that he maintains attention not only to what is being said, but to what is happening. Sometimes he raises his eyes, arches his eyebrows as if paying attention, sways his legs in and out, and depending on what he sees, he either raises or resumes typing. This dynamic reminds me of the year 2006 when I used to assist my Si Fu with the classes of Paula Gama and her daughters Anna and Adda. During those afternoons, they were accessing the "Biu Ji" Domain. Si Fu sat in his chair, sometimes tinkering with his computer, sometimes simply observing what was happening. For me, it was a very important process because I felt like I was assisting, taking into account the limitations I had.

Similarly, on Thursday night while mobilizing Edson at Level 6, incredible 18 years after those afternoons of high adventures with Si Fu at the former MYVT Barra School, I have the opportunity to watch Si Gung knowing that he is monitoring. After all, when I return to Rio, I will be on my own, so I always consider it an excellent opportunity to learn what not to do.

There was a guy I met in 2018, the boyfriend of a friend; he was a salesman and referred to himself as an "eagle". - "It's because I'm an 'eagle' guy,"- he would say. I found that logic very amusing because indeed, he was an unparalleled salesman. You would sit down with him to eat a snack and feel like buying an air conditioner, for goodness' sake. And I wondered: "Am I an eagle guy in my field?" Therefore, my recent contact with these attentive professionals at an eagle level immediately turned me into a "coffee with milk guy" in that group. Instead of feeling bad, I felt very motivated to now aim for new levels of understanding about the System and the Programs. So, on this Thursday night with Edson, after two years of hard work, I was finally doing a reasonable job within the most updated Level 6 of the Ving Tsun Experience Program. Master Quintela often says that if you practice for ten years from now on, it will be ten years of high-level study. So, it's a very good feeling of a fresh start and rediscovery that I've been experiencing.

Observar o progresso do Edson é algo sem paralelos. Tenho conseguido acompanhar como o Edson evolui a cada visita a São Paulo. Muitos dos meus discípulos puderam, de maneira singela, contribuir de alguma forma e se beneficiaram com isso. Realmente fico muito impressionado com como o Programa se encaixa de maneira sistêmica. Si Gung parecia muito animado quando fomos jantar. Meu discípulo Lucas estava no carro e pôde compartilhar dessa sensação de quanto Si Gung estava satisfeito com o desenrolar das coisas e com o que tinha ocorrido naquela noite.

Naquela semana, recebi um vídeo que falava da importância de não "trabalharmos duro demais", pois a vida passa muito rápido. Recebo muitos vídeos com essa temática dos poucos e bons amigos que tenho; muitos se preocupam com o nível de imersão que vivo. Naquele dia, mandei o vídeo para Si Gung e pedi que ele desse sua opinião. "...Acho muito útil para aqueles que apenas trabalham demais. Por outro lado, isso tem sido uma desculpa para muitos não exercerem sua existência..." - ele teria escrito. Então, naquela quinta-feira, senti um pouco disso. Foram dois anos me sentindo perdido, atrasado, defasado, "café com leite" e muito mais... Mas de alguma maneira que não sei explicar, durante aqueles minutos de estudo do Nível 6, senti que algo encaixou. Foi como um suspiro de alívio saber mais uma vez que não existe mágica na Dimensão Kung Fu, e só com muito estudo se chega lá.

Não espero que quem leia até aqui entenda o que estou dizendo, mas esses são apenas fragmentos de memória para expressar o sentimento que sentia com Si Gung e Lucas no carro naquela noite de quinta-feira. E lembrei-me da fala de Johnathan Kent para seu filho Clark no meu seriado favorito de todos os tempos "Smallville" - "O trabalho faz o homem honesto, Clark".

Vamos com tudo!

Observing Edson's progress is unparalleled. I've been able to witness how Edson evolves with each visit to São Paulo. Many of my disciples have been able, in a subtle way, to contribute in some form and have benefited from it. I am truly impressed by how the Program fits in a systemic way. Si Gung seemed very excited when we went out for dinner. My disciple Lucas was in the car and could share in the feeling of how satisfied Si Gung was with how things were unfolding and with what had happened that night.

During that week, I received a video that spoke about the importance of not "working too hard" because life passes by too quickly. I receive many videos with this theme from the few good friends I have; many are concerned about the level of immersion I live in. On that day, I sent the video to Si Gung and asked for his opinion. "...I find it very useful for those who simply work too much. On the other hand, this has been an excuse for many not to exercise their existence," - he would have written. So, on that Thursday, I felt a bit of that. It had been two years of feeling lost, behind, outdated, "coffee with milk," and much more... But somehow, in a way I can't explain, during those minutes studying Level 6, I felt that something clicked. It was like a sigh of relief to know once again that there is no magic in the Kung Fu Dimension, and only with a lot of study can one get there.

I don't expect anyone reading this far to understand what I'm saying, but these are just fragments of memory to express the feeling I had with Si Gung and Lucas in the car that Thursday night. And I remembered Johnathan Kent's words to his son Clark in my all-time favorite TV series "Smallville" - "Work makes the man honest, Clark."

Interview with GM Leo Imamura - The importance of a Si Fu's birthday.

O Blog do Pereira tem a honra de entrevistar o Grão-Mestre Leo Imamura mais uma vez. E nesta oportunidade, falaremos de um evento sem precedentes que ocorrerá na capital do nosso país por ocasião do seu aniversário. Serão três dias de grande impacto no cenário das artes marciais do Brasil, quando Grão-Mestres de fora do país da Linhagem Moy Yat, bem como Mestres brasileiros de expressão internacional do Karate, Aikido e Judo estarão presentes.

Com dois dias dedicados a práticas que compreenderão todo o Sistema Ving Tsun, além de estudos específicos de Chi Sau, conduzidos por autoridades de alto nível desta arte, será um verdadeiro marco para aqueles que estiverem presentes. Além disso, o auditório do Senado Federal servirá de palco para o último dia de evento, no qual os Mestres presentes poderão fazer palestras que têm o potencial de reapresentar o importante papel das artes marciais para a sociedade.

The Peartrees's Blog has the honor of interviewing Grand Master Leo Imamura once again. Follow below, as in a few lines, Grand Master Leo Imamura shares much of his understanding about the importance of a Si Fu's birthday, in the year and event in which he turns 61 years old.

1-  O senhor passou por alguma dificuldade para estar nos aniversários do Patriarca Moy Yat? Por que o senhor fazia questão de ir?
Did you face any challenges in attending Patriarch Moy Yat's birthdays? Why was it important for you to attend?

L.I.  -  A importância do aniversário do Si Fu diz respeito à confirmação do vínculo familiar, que é um pseudo- parentesco. Por isso, a presença é fundamental. O Patriarca Moy Yat não só ia, como também organizava o aniversário do Patriarca Ip Man. É fundamental que você possa manifestar esse vínculo.

Eu  tinha um desafio que muitas vezes minha vida não coincidia com o aniversário dele. Eu tinha um combinado diferente com ele, muitas vezes voltando para o Brasil uma semana antes de seu aniversário. Somado a isso, tinha a dificuldade de se ajustar às questões financeiras, e o aniversário da sua Si Taai que era um dia depois do aniversário dele.

ENGLISH -  The significance of  a Si Fu's birthday relates to the confirmation of the family bond, which is a pseudo-kinship. Therefore, presence is crucial. Patriarch Moy Yat not only attended but also organized the birthday celebration for Patriarch Ip Man. It is essential that you can express this connection.

I faced a challenge where often my life did not align with his birthday. I had a different arrangement with him, frequently returning to Brazil a week before his birthday. In addition, there was the difficulty of adjusting to financial matters, and your Si Taai 's birthday, which was one day after his own.

2-O senhor considera que existe algum momento da jornada Kung Fu de alguém que é imprescindível estar presente nesse tipo de celebração?

Do you believe there is a crucial moment in someone's Kung Fu journey that necessitates being present at such a celebration?

L.I. -  Existem dificuldades, mas tudo é uma questão de oportunidade, por exemplo, os 'big numbers'... 40, 50, 60, 70 anos de idade... São anos importantes em que a pessoa precisa estar presente, inclusive se você é considerado um membro importante na família.

ENGLLISH - There are challenges, but it's all a matter of opportunity. For instance, the 'big numbers'... 40, 50, 60, 70 years old... These are significant years where one needs to be present, especially if you are considered an important member of the family.

3-O que haverá de diferente na celebração do aniversário do senhor este ano? 
What will be different about your birthday celebration this year? 

L.I. - Este ano, o que queremos fazer é trazer a união e o apoio de pessoas que possam estar trabalhando em conjunto. Por isso, teremos o evento no senado federal para expandir nossa mensagem para outras camadas da sociedade. Já temos nomes confirmados que são meus amigos, do Judô, Karatê e Aikido.

ENGLISH - This year, what we aim to do is foster unity and support from individuals who can collaborate. Therefore, we will hold the event at the Federal Senate to broaden our message to other layers of society. We already have confirmed names, including friends from Judo, Karate, and Aikido.

4- Como se dará este estudo do Sistema Ving Tsun com os Grão Mestres?

L.I. - Teremos um painel para falar de todos os domínios do Siu Nim Tau ao Baat Jaam Do. E teremos também pessoas conduzindo práticas de Chi Sau de alto nível.

ENGLISH - We will have a panel to discuss all aspects from Siu Nim Tau to Baat Jaam Do. Additionally, there will be individuals leading high-level Chi Sau practices.

5 - Mestres e praticantes afastados serão bem-vindos?
Are Masters and practitioners who are currently away welcome?

L.I. - Todos os discípulos são bem-vindos, Apesar de muitas vezes a relação estar distanciada, é muito importante estar presente para reafirmar essa relação. Muitas vezes, uma maneira de fazer isso numa impossibilidade é enviar um vídeo, por exemplo. Mas quando você envia vídeo duas, três, quatro vezes... Isso começa a perder sentido. O vídeo é um meio para compensar a ausencia, e não para ser um recurso permanente.

ENGLISH - All disciples are welcome. Although the relationship is often distant, it is very important to be present to reaffirm this relationship. Often, a way to do this when this is impossible is to send a video, for example. But when you send video two, three, four times... It starts to lose meaning. Video is a means to compensate for absence, not to be a permanent resource.

L.I. - Haverá muitas titulações e promoções.

7- Haverá convidados internacionais? O senhor já tem os nomes?

L.I. - A própria presença do GM William Moy , presidente da International Moy Yat Ving Tsun Federation, vai ajudar muito nesse reconhecimento internacional. Principalmente aqueles que estão fazendo o trabalho vinculado a International Moy Yat Ving Tsun Federation. Também estarão presentes o Grão Mestre Pete Pajil, Chairman do Conselho de Grão Mestres e o Mestre Senior Wayne Belonoha, que é vice-presidente da International Moy Yat Ving Tsun Federation. Além de brasileiros de expressão internacional, como o Sensei Roberto Santana do Karate, que nos honrará com sua presença. Então teremos pessoas de nível internacional a confirmar também.

8- Qual homenagem o senhor espera receber?

L.I. -  A maior homenagem que eu posso receber é a presença das pessoas, e a pior homenagem é a ausência. Eu sinto muito quando os discípulos não aparecem, sendo considerados discípulos e tendo condições de aparecer. É triste.

ENGLISH -  The greatest tribute I can receive is the presence of people, and the worst tribute is their absence. I feel disheartened when disciples don't show up, especially when they are considered disciples and have the means to attend. It is saddening.

“Uma vida em um dia” será o nome do evento que acontecerá no dia 18 de março de 2024 no Auditório Petrônio Portela do Senado Federal em Brasília. “Uma vida em um dia” é uma tradução livre de uma antiga expressão chinesa “Yat Yat, Yat Saang”, que enfatiza a importância de viver plenamente um dia pode valer por uma vida.

Convidados por Grão-mestre Leo Imamura para explicar como a gestão estratégica de conflito pode contribuir para o desenvolvimento humano. Grandes artistas marciais de várias partes do mundo compartilharão como suas ricas experiências de vida podem ajudar as pessoas no dia-a-dia.

Com entrada franca aberta ao público, este evento será apresentado pela Embaixadora da Paz Maria Paula Fidalgo.

Este momento histórico será registrado profissionalmente para que todos possam guardar para vida toda a importância deste dia. 

Afinal, viver bem um dia pode valer para a vida toda.

"One Life in a Day" will be the name of the event taking place on March 18, 2024, at the Petrônio Portela Auditorium of the Federal Senate in Brasília. "One Life in a Day" is a loose translation of the ancient Chinese expression "Yat Yat, Yat Saang," which underscores the importance that fully living one day can be as valuable as a lifetime.

Invited by Grandmaster Leo Imamura to elaborate on how strategic conflict management can contribute to human development, prominent martial artists from various parts of the world will share how their rich life experiences can assist people in their daily lives.

With free admission open to the public, this event will be presented by the Peace Ambassador Maria Paula Fidalgo.

This historic moment will be professionally documented, allowing everyone to preserve the significance of this day for a lifetime. After all, living one day well can be worth a lifetime.

LEO IMAMURA - THE TIRELESS MASTER OF BRAZIL

 

Sigung observava o praticante do Ving Tsun Experience chamado Edson com muita atenção sem nada dizer. Já era noite, estávamos o dia todo juntos e ele estava ali conduzindo aquela aula. Foi quando me perguntei - “Por que ele não pede a alguém para dar essa aula?” - Minha pergunta não era motivada por ele estar cansado, mas porque ele poderia simplesmente pedir que alguém o fizesse em seu lugar. Ele só não precisava estar ali. Não satisfeito, com uma atenção e foco como a de alguém que ainda está em sua primeira atividade do dia, ele comentava os mínimos detalhes. Não somente para o Edson, mas para meu discípulo Rodrigo, que tentava ajudá-lo. Aquela cena me tocou profundamente. Aquela atitude incansável, a capacidade de chegar inteiro  no final dia, de dar total atenção ao aluno que chega como se fosse o primeiro, o foco para não falar de nenhum assunto que não estivesse em sintonia com o trabalho. Toda uma conduta que me lembrou a mesma que eu vi em meu Si Fu quando o conheci e que me tocou da mesma forma na época Núcleo Jacarepaguá. - “...Esse é o profissional que eu quero ser...” - Concluí.

That tireless attitude, the ability to arrive as a whole in the end of the day, to give total attention to the student as if it were the first, the focus to not stop on any subject not in tune with the work. A whole conduct that reminded me of the same I saw in my Si Fu when I met him and touched me in the same way at the Jacarepaguá School days. - “...This is the professional I want to be...” - I concluded.

"...O Edson vem de longe, tem esposa e filho, é esforçado, é claro que vou dar total atenção a alguém assim..." - Teria dito ele no dia seguinte quando trouxe o tema à mesa. A atenção que Si Gung reserva a mim e aos meus alunos que me acompanham quando estive com ele em São Paulo ou Brasília esse ano chega a ser desconcertante. Nessas horas, ele costuma me repreender e pedir que deixe as formalidades para “o mundo lá fora”. - “...Eu sei que você me respeita, mas você precisa golpear...” - Disse ele durante uma prática de Chi Sau que tive diretamente com ele - “...Porque aqui, não se trata do Leo ou do Thiago, mas do nosso Kung Fu... De outra coisa, e a gente precisa deixar sair...” - Conclui ele. Quando fico receoso de colocar alguma dúvida e ela ser básica demais, ele comenta - “...Eu não acho nada básico... Quando seu Si Baak Natan perguntava as mesmas coisas, costumavam rir dele, e olha onde ele chegou. Por isso, quando você faz perguntas que você chama de 'básicas', ninguém mais ri...” - Si Gung tem uma crença definitiva de que as coisas acontecem quando geradas pelas condicionantes corretas e que ocorrem de maneira progressiva. Por isso, enquanto observava o rapaz realizar a sequência de movimentos com o bastão no Nível 5 do Ving Tsun Experience, teria chegado à conclusão de que talvez um movimento estivesse sobrando - “Viu só?” - Indagou ele sorrindo - “Já teria valido só por causa disso.” - Comentava ele agora mais sério, fazendo o gesto como se segurasse o bastão com os braços esticados, dando os mínimos detalhes sobre a sua conclusão em uma mesa de aeroporto.

"...Edson comes from afar, has a wife and child, is diligent; it is clear that I will give complete attention to someone like that..." - He would have said the next day when I brought up the topic at the table. The attention that Si Gung reserves for me and my students who accompanied me when I was with him in São Paulo or Brasília this year is disconcerting. At these times, he usually reproaches me and asks me to leave the formalities for "the outside world." - "...I know you respect me, but you need to strike..." - He said during a Chi Sau practice that I had directly with him - "...Because here, it's not about Leo or Thiago, but about our Kung Fu... About something else, and we need to let it out..." - He concluded. When I am hesitant to ask a question, fearing it might be too basic, he comments - "...I don't find anything basic... When your Si Baak Natan asked the same thing, they used to laugh at him, and look where he got. So, when you ask questions that you call 'basic,' no one laughs anymore..." - Si Gung has a firm belief that things happen when generated by the correct conditions and that they occur progressively. Therefore, while observing the gentleman perform the sequence of movements with the staff in Level 5 of the Ving Tsun Experience Program, he would have come to the conclusion that perhaps one movement was unnecessary - "See?" - He inquired, smiling - "It would have been worthwhile just for that." - He commented, now more serious, gesturing as if holding the staff with his arms extended, giving the smallest details about his conclusion at an airport table.

Quando estávamos por volta de 2001...2002... Meu Si Fu disse que estava há quatro dias sem dormir porque sua filha Jade estava doente no hospital. Ele falava com alguém, e eu praticava próximo e ouvia. Aquela fala me inspirou muito, pois ele não aparentou estar cansado ou desanimado em momento algum. Havia uma vida nele que lhe permitia dar atenção às minhas questões ou às de qualquer outro praticante como se fossem os temas mais importantes do mundo. Nesse final de semana vendo Si Gung, eu repensei isso. Porque nos tempos de altas aventuras no Núcleo Jacarepaguá, o que me atraiu foi a dedicação, a determinação, e como Si fu disse a um irmão Kung Fu querido meu na época - “...Você sempre é o exemplo para alguém...” - E eu acho que então você pode não ter magnetismo como eu também não tenho, mas o seu compromisso em entregar o seu melhor faz com que outras pessoas queiram participar disso ou se inspirem a fazer o mesmo em suas áreas. Naqueles tempos, eu era um garoto que se comportava como criança, e não pude aproveitar. Hoje, como um homem, acredito que possa me inspirar para ser cada vez mais um melhor profissional e herdeiro desta arte marcial que mudou e ainda muda minha vida.

When we were around 2001...2002... My Si Fu mentioned that he had been without sleep for four days because his daughter Jade was ill in the hospital. He was talking to someone, and I practiced nearby, listening. That statement inspired me a lot because he didn't seem tired or discouraged at any point. There was a life in him that allowed him to pay attention to my questions or those of any other practitioner as if they were the most important topics in the world. This weekend, seeing Si Gung, I reconsidered that. Because in the times of high adventures at the MYVT Jacarepaguá school, what attracted me was dedication, determination, and as Si Fu said to a dear Kung Fu brother of mine at the time - "...You are always an example for someone..." - And I think that while you may not have magnetism like as a leader, your commitment to giving your best makes others want to participate in that or be inspired to do the same in their areas. In those times, I was a boy who behaved like a child, and I couldn't take advantage. Today, as a man, I believe I can inspire myself to be an increasingly better professional and heir to this martial art that has changed and continues to change my life.

A MAJOR SURPRISE FROM MOY YAT VING TSUN IN NITEROI CITY, BRAZIL : JUAN

A vida pode ser muito desafiadora e repleta de mudanças a todo momento. É por isso que, quando não estou atuando profissionalmente, você pode me encontrar fazendo sempre as mesmas coisas nos mesmos lugares. Talvez eu queira reservar a emoção para minha vida profissional e usar meus momentos pessoais de maneira previsível para recarregar as energias suficientes para exercer minha vocação no dia ou semana seguinte.

Em um desses momentos de ócio, eu estava no meio de uma pista de dança de um Flashback que frequento todas as sextas-feiras. O nome do lugar é "Buffet Lee", uma homenagem a Bruce Lee. O DJ é um querido amigo, e o público tem 45 anos de idade para cima, o que gera um ambiente de muito respeito. As músicas são as mesmas das minhas playlists, então eu sei cantar todas, e a pista de dança escura não permite que saibam o quão pouco você sabe dançar. Assim, você poderia me ver ali quando chegou uma mensagem de Juan do Núcleo Niterói.

Juan vinha tentando verificar comigo os horários do Si Gung no Rio em função da Visita Oficial ao Núcleo Méier. Ele desejava coincidir para que talvez seu Baai Si com seu Si Fu Geraldo Monnerat pudesse ocorrer na mesma oportunidade com a presença de Si Gung. "Na hora do Flashback, Juan?" - pensei enquanto ria sozinho. Infelizmente, eu não estava conseguindo fornecer a ele as informações que precisava porque não as tinha, mas chamou-me a atenção o "Chung Chi" que ele estava utilizando para obter as informações... Inclusive durante meu Flashback de Sexta ...risos

Life can be very challenging and full of changes at every moment. That's why, when I'm not working professionally, you can find me doing the same things in the same places. Perhaps I want to reserve the excitement for my professional life and use my personal moments predictably to recharge enough energy to pursue my vocation the following day or week. In one of these leisure moments, I was in the middle of a dance floor at a Flashback Music Party I attend every Friday. The place is called "Buffet Lee," a tribute to Bruce Lee. The DJ is a dear friend, and the audience is 45 years old and above, creating an atmosphere of great respect. The songs are the same as those in my playlists, so I can sing them all, and the dark dance floor doesn't reveal how little you know about dancing. So, you could see me there when a message from Juan from the MYVT Niterói School arrived.

Juan had been trying to check with me the schedules of Si Gung in Rio due to the Official Visit to MYVT Meier School. He wished to coincide so that perhaps his Baai Si with his Si Fu Geraldo Monnerat could happen at the same opportunity with the presence of Si Gung. "During the Flashback time, Juan, really?" - I thought as I chuckled to myself. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to provide him with the information he needed because I didn't have it, but I was intrigued by the "Chung Chi" he was using to obtain the information... Even during my Friday Flashback... laughter.

Chamamos CHUNG CHI (衝刺), a "Intenção de avançar", e ao final do primeiro dia da Visita Oficial ao Núcleo Méier, Juan finalmente estava tendo sua aula de Cham Kiu diretamente com Si Gung, com a participação de seu Si Fu. E olha... Foi bonito de ver...

Juan havia percorrido todo o caminho desde Volta Redonda, uma cidade bem distante do Rio, embora no mesmo estado. Ele deixou sua esposa e filho e pegou a estrada para essa aula que ocorreu altas horas da noite em um dos pavimentos do hotel em que o Si Gung estava hospedado.

Muitos dos meus discípulos estavam presentes, e espero que eles tenham percebido que Juan não pediu para parar nem uma única vez. Bom, pelo menos não que eu tenha percebido.

As duplas trocavam uma após a outra, e Juan permanecia praticando com afinco. Por mais que estivesse suando, e as duplas se revezassem sem parar, ele continuava focado. Podia notar isso na seriedade com a qual ele fazia todos os trabalhos propostos, e nas dúvidas ou comentários que fazia.

Sua atitude me lembrou praticantes que conheci ainda garoto e do ambiente de prática quando eu mesmo estava no Cham Kiu. Em algum nível, nós achávamos que parar para descansar era demonstrar fraqueza, e nunca parávamos. Juan parece conseguir fazer isso por razões mais virtuosas.

We call CHUNG CHI (衝刺), the "Intention to advance," and at the end of the first day of the Official Visit to the MYVT Méier School, Juan was finally having his Cham Kiu lesson directly with Si Gung Leo Imamura, with the participation of his Si Fu. And you know... It was beautiful to see...

Juan had traveled all the way from Volta Redonda, a city quite distant from Rio, although in the same state. He left his wife and son and hit the road for this lesson that took place late at night on one of the hotel floors where Si Gung was staying.

Many of my disciples were present, and I hope they noticed that Juan didn't ask to stop even once. Well, at least not that I noticed.

The pairs exchanged one after another, and Juan continued practicing diligently. Even though he was sweating, and the pairs took turns without stopping, he remained focused. I could see this in the seriousness with which he approached all the proposed tasks and in the questions or comments he made.

His attitude reminded me of practitioners I met when I was still a boy and of the practice environment when I myself was in Cham Kiu. At some level, we thought that stopping to rest showed weakness, and we never stopped. Juan seems to be able to do this for more virtuous reasons.

Quando estive em Brasília pela segunda vez este ano, Si Gung disse ao meu discípulo Vitor que ele sempre se coloca disponível para quem tem o desejo de aprender. Parece então que Juan é um desses casos. Pois, Si Gung havia criado um clima desde o início com muita marcialidade no ar. Todos estavam muito atentos, e quando alguém se distraía, ele rapidamente e de diferentes maneiras trazia não só a pessoa, mas todos os presentes de volta à dimensão kung fu, onde a conduta durante a experiência marcial precisa ser adequada. Mesmo assim, de vez em quando, ele comentava com uma singela felicidade sobre o desenvolvimento de Juan. Resultado de um trabalho dele com o Si Fu de Juan, o Mestre Geraldo Monnerat, através do Sistema RIS. Vendo a atitude de Juan, lembrei das mensagens dele para o meu telefone, em particular aquela do Flashback. Lembrei também como algumas semanas antes ele havia se mobilizado junto de outros irmãos Kung Fu para levar Si Gung até Niterói para seu Baai Si. No final das contas, Juan me fez refletir se o que entendo sobre CHUNG CHI (衝刺) foi atualizado ao longo dos anos, ou se sigo pensando com base no primeiro contato que tive com esse conceito em 2001 no Cham Kiu. Juan parece-me uma das grandes boas surpresas do ano de 2023.

When I was in Brasília for the second time this year, Si Gung told my disciple Vitor that he always makes himself available for those who have the desire to learn. It seems that Juan is one of those cases. Si Gung had created an atmosphere from the beginning with a strong martial presence. Everyone was very attentive, and when someone became distracted, he quickly and in various ways brought not only that person but all present back to the kung fu dimension, where conduct during the martial experience needs to be appropriate. Nevertheless, from time to time, he would comment with simple joy about Juan's development. This was the result of his collaboration with Juan's Si Fu, Master Geraldo Monnerat, through the RIS System. Observing Juan's attitude reminded me of his messages to my phone, particularly that one during the Flashback party. I also remembered how a few weeks earlier he had mobilized with other Kung Fu brothers to take Si Gung to Niterói city for his Baai Si. In the end, Juan made me reflect on whether my understanding of CHUNG CHI (衝刺) has been updated over the years or if I still think based on my first encounter with this concept in 2001 during Cham Kiu. Juan seems to me one of the great pleasant surprises of the year 2023.

THE RETURN OF THE EAGLE:GM LEO IMAMURA IN MEIER NEIGHBORHOOD

Existe um filme maravilhoso de 1990 chamado "Iron and Silk". Este filme é baseado nas experiências retratadas no livro do autor Mark Salzman na China. O filme segue Mark, interpretado por ele mesmo, que vai para a China para ensinar inglês. Ele se envolve na cultura local, aprende artes marciais e estabelece uma conexão especial com um Si Fu e com uma professora de chinês. A narrativa explora a interação entre o Ocidente e o Oriente, destacando a jornada de autodescoberta e a compreensão mútua entre duas culturas distintas. O filme oferece uma apreciação pela riqueza da cultura chinesa. No Brasil, por alguma razão misteriosa, ele recebeu o título de "O Retorno da Águia". Achei que era um bom momento para usar aqui.

There is a wonderful 1990 film called "Iron and Silk." This film is based on the experiences depicted in the book by author Mark Salzman in China. The film follows Mark, portrayed by himself, who travels to China to teach English. He becomes immersed in the local culture, learns martial arts, and establishes a special connection with a Si Fu and his Chinese teacher. The narrative explores the interaction between the West and the East, highlighting the journey of self-discovery and mutual understanding between two distinct cultures. The film provides an appreciation for the richness of Chinese culture. In Brazil, for some mysterious reason, it was given the title "The Return of the Eagle."

I tought was a good moment to use it here.

Nós nos preparamos para receber meu Si Gung Leo Imamura em nosso Núcleo no Méier. Esta era a sua primeira 'Visita oficial' como parte do Programa MYVTKF, e momentos antes de irmos buscá-lo no aeroporto, eu tinha em mente a imagem do sorriso da To Dai do Mestre Thiago Quintela e esposa do querido Thiago Paternostro, a querida Ana, ao final de dois dias de atividades intensas, das quais felizmente pude participar alguns meses atrás, durante a Visita Oficial ao Núcleo Flor de Lótus, e que havia me marcado. Pensava comigo que se meus alunos pudessem terminar o terceiro dia com um semblante de felicidade e energia como o da Ana naquela ocasião, seria um indício de um evento bem-sucedido.

Não foram poucos os meus discípulos que vieram me falar, entre sorrisos, o quanto estavam felizes por tudo que havia acontecido. Ninguém demonstrava cansaço, e acredito firmemente que seria possível mais um dia inteiro de Visita. Esse relato pode parecer subjetivo demais, mas a imagem de alguém sorrindo depois de tantas atividades intensas uma após a outra me parecia impossível até eu testemunhar o contrário na Família do Mestre Quintela. Com aquela imagem no coração, chegamos a esse importante marco. 

We prepared to welcome my Si Gung Leo Imamura to our Moy Yat Ving Tsun School in the wild  Méier neighborhood. This marked his inaugural 'Official Visit' as part of the MYVTKF Program. Just before going to pick him up at the airport, the image of Thiago Paternostro's wife,the dear Ana, To Dai of Master Thiago Quintela from Brasília, lingered in my mind because Ana's smile at the end of two intense days, which I fortunately participated in a few months ago during the Official Visit to the Flor de Lótus MYVT School, had left an impression on me. I thought to myself that if my students could finish the third day with a semblance of happiness and energy like Ana's on that occasion, it would be an indication of a successful event.

Many of my disciples approached me, smiling, expressing how happy they were with everything that had transpired. No one showed signs of fatigue, and I firmly believe that another full day of the visit would have been possible. This account may seem too subjective, but the image of someone smiling after so many intense activities one after the other seemed impossible until I witnessed the opposite in the Master Quintela's Kung Fu Family. With that image in my heart, we reached this significant milestone.

Também pude contar com a presença dos Mestres: Fábio Gomes [foto], Geraldo Monnerat, Diego Guadelupe, Felipe Soares e Leonardo Reis. Além deles e de seus alunos, as esposas de três deles se fizeram presentes: as queridas Catia Reis, Adriana Lima [foto] e Elisa Wanderley. E como se não bastasse, o Mestre Edgar do Instituto Wu Lin Dao também esteve presente, representando seu Mestre Bruno.

Esta foto acima representa muito para mim, pois sempre procurei estar presente em todas as solenidades, atos cerimoniais, celebrações e demais atividades da Linhagem Moy Yat [e por vezes até fora dela] no Rio. Sempre acreditei na importância da comunidade marcial e em me fazer presente. Agindo com transparência, hoje acredito que um coração sincero tem o poder de atrair pessoas sérias. Estas pessoas sérias enriquecem o cenário para meus alunos e permitem uma troca respeitosa, como deve ser.

I was also able to rely on the presence of the Masters: Fábio Gomes [photo above], Geraldo Monnerat, Diego Guadelupe,Leonardo Reis and Felipe Soares. In addition to them and their students, the wives of three of them were also present: the dear Catia Reis, Adriana Lima [photo] and Elisa Wanderley. And as if that weren't enough, Master Edgar from the Wu Lin Dao Institute was also present, representing his Master Bruno.

This photo above means a lot to me because I have always sought to be present at all ceremonies, ceremonial acts, celebrations, and other activities of the Moy Yat Lineage [and sometimes even beyond it] in Rio. I have always believed in the importance of the martial community and in making myself present. Acting with transparency, today I believe that a sincere heart has the power to attract serious people. These serious individuals enrich the scene for my students and allow for a respectful exchange, as it should be.

“Voce quer mudar de local agora?” - Perguntou-me Si Gung com um sorriso olhando para a frente e prosseguiu - “Agora já é tarde. Por que vocês não viram isso no pré-evento?” - Indagou ele sabendo que eu não havia pensado nisso - “Deixa...Deixa dar m.... Depois nós vemos...”

A 'Visita Oficial'  não é uma simples visita, é na verdade um misterioso Instrumento Estratégico do Programa MYVTKF que envolve todos os níveis, todas as naturezas, e permite dentre tantas coisas, que o aluno repense a coerência profunda de suas escolhas. Para tanto, Si Gung se disponibiliza em um nível quase sobrenatural, para que as coisas deem errado com um sorriso no rosto. Si Gung me deu um exemplo muito poderoso não só com provocações como essas que abrem o parágrafo, mas com atitudes, sobre a relevância da jornada Kung Fu ser focada no processo e não no resultado. 

No momento da foto acima, o local estava muitíssimo quente no período da manhã. Si Gung não chamou a atenção de ninguém, não diminuiu sua energia, e acreditou no processo, no qual atuar no momento da prefiguração é muito mais importante do que atuar o tempo todo quando a situação já está configurada. - “Voce não tem que ficar fazendo nada...Deeeixa... Deixa eles...” - Dizia Si Gung com a maior calma do mundo.

"Do you want to change location now?"-  Si Gung asked me with a smile, looking ahead, and continued-  "Now it's too late. Why didn't you see this in the pre-event?"-  He inquired, knowing that I hadn't thought about it- "Never mind... let the s... happens.... We'll it see later..."

The 'Official Visit' is not a simple visit; it is, in fact, a mysterious Strategic Instrument of the MYVTKF Program that involves all levels and natures and allows, among many things, the student to reconsider the profound coherence of his choices. To that end, Si Gung makes himself available at an almost supernatural level so that things go wrong, with a smile on his face. Si Gung gave me a very powerful example, not only with provocations like those opening the paragraph but with actions, about the importance of the Kung Fu journey being focused on the process rather than the result.

At the moment of the photo above, the location was very hot in the morning. Si Gung complained, didn't diminish his energy, and believed in the process, in which acting at the moment of prefiguration is much more important than acting all the time when the situation is already configured. "You don't have to be doing anything... Let it go... Let them be ..." - Si Gung said with the utmost calmness.

Um dia, em 1993, saí da escola, e o irmão da minha melhor amiga, que havia ido buscá-la, disse: "Perdeu o filme que passou hoje à tarde, Gordinho! Era de luta! Muito maneiro!"-  Minha mãe ouviu e disse em tom desafiador: "Eu gravei para você." 

Eu assisti "O Grande Dragão Branco" mais vezes do que alguém possa conceber. Porém, eu nunca imaginaria que trinta anos depois estaria na minha própria escola de artes marciais, recebendo uma das maiores autoridades do mundo no Ving Tsun. Já estávamos no terceiro dia, e a ficha ainda não tinha caído. Eu simplesmente não podia acreditar que tudo aquilo estava mesmo acontecendo.

"Por que você pratica Kung Fu?" - Perguntou-me Si Gung enquanto andávamos em um shopping da Zona Oeste da cidade no sábado. Sabe, às vezes nós ficamos tão focados em sobreviver e fazer as coisas acontecerem, e quando as coisas dão certo ainda que por um singelo momento, parece que não é real. Então, eu me concentrei, voltei até o portão do Salesiano naquela tarde de 1993 e parei entre a minha mãe e o Zé Mario em minha mente. Tentei imaginar a cena de outro ângulo, e quando revi aquele momento que vivi quando criança, disse para mim mesmo - "No final, a gente consegue". Eu realmente estava muito orgulhoso e incrédulo.

One day in 1993, I left school, and my best friend's brother, who had come to pick her up, said, "You missed the movie that was on this afternoon, Chubby! It was a martial arts film! Really cool!"-  My mum overheard and said challengingly, "I recorded it for you." 

I watched "Bloodsport"[1988] more times than anyone could imagine. I never would have thought that thirty years later, I would be in my own martial arts school, hosting one of the world's greatest authorities in Ving Tsun. We were already on the third day, and it still hadn't sunk in. I simply couldn't believe that all of this was actually happening.

"Why do you practice Kung Fu?" - Si Gung asked me as we walked in a West Zone city shopping mall on Saturday. You know, sometimes we get so focused on surviving and making things happen, and when things go well, it feels unreal. So, I focused, went back to the gate of my former school called Salesiano that afternoon in 1993, and stood between my mum and Zé Mario. I tried to imagine the scene from a different angle, and when I revisited that moment from my childhood, I told myself - "In the end, we make it."-  I was truly proud and incredulous.

Presenciar Si Gung conduzir práticas, palestras e estudos relacionados ao Sistema Ving Tsun é uma aula sobre o quanto alguém pode se entregar a um propósito. Vendo o que ele faz, você entende que mesmo que você entregue a sua própria vida,  não é suficiente. Você precisa da vida de outras pessoas para dar prosseguimento. E talvez daí também venha a sua infindável motivação para fazer mais um movimento ou dizer mais uma palavra, seja às 8h da manhã ou à meia-noite em uma prática no meio da madrugada em um hotel.

Fica a certeza de que existe um grande trabalho a ser feito pela frente e de que há uma esperança real para que minha Família Kung Fu acesse outro nível de atuação. Um caminho coerente para seguir consolida-se a partir dessa Visita Oficial. Todo o resto agora é uma questão de colocar o coração e ter estômago. A gente chega lá, de alguma maneira, a gente chega lá.

Witnessing Si Gung lead practices, lectures, and studies related to the Ving Tsun System is a lesson in how much someone can dedicate themselves to a purpose. Observing what he does, you understand that even if you devote your own life, as he does, it's not enough. You need the lives of others to carry on. And perhaps from there also comes his endless motivation to make one more move or say one more word, be it at 8 am or midnight during a late-night practice in a hotel.

There is a certainty that there is a significant task ahead, and there is a real hope that my Kung Fu Family can reach another level of performance. A coherent path to follow solidifies from this Official Visit. Everything else now is a matter of putting the heart into it and having the stomach for it. We get there somehow, we get there.
