AN INSPIRATION CALLED LOREN AVEDON

Nós sabemos que a vida passa num sopro. Pessoas que amamos partem e deixam apenas lembranças. Algumas coisas desafiadoras nos acontecem, mas anos depois vemos que foi melhor assim. Afinal, não sabíamos que uma grande felicidade nos aguardava mais adiante nessa estrada. E apesar de sabermos que a vida está sempre em constante mudança, talvez algumas memórias sejam importantes de guardarmos. E uma das memórias que guardo com mais carinho é das primeiras vezes que assisti a qualquer filme de um dos meus grandes heróis, o ator e artista marcial chamado Loren Avedon.

Meu avô tinha uma TV antiga com uma tela de 14 polegadas. Como eu estudava à tarde, enquanto almoçava para ir para a escola, meu avô passava em casa no intervalo do trabalho, para almoçar também. Minha avó preparava sempre uma refeição feita na hora, e eu e meu avô assistíamos à TV enquanto comíamos. Lembro-me bem quando a propaganda do filme “O Rei dos Kickboxers” foi exibida. O famoso locutor de cinema, Jorgeh Ramos, falava um breve resumo da história do filme, enquanto cenas com Loren Avedon eram exibidas. Eu não conseguia acreditar como alguém poderia se mover tão rápido. Eu tinha 7 anos de idade, e a censura da época não me possibilitava ir ao cinema.

We know that life passes in the blink of an eye. People we love depart, leaving only memories. Some challenging things happen to us, but years later we see that it was for the best. After all, we didn't know that great happiness awaited us further down this road. And even though we understand that life is always undergoing constant change, perhaps some memories are important for us to hold onto. And one of the memories I cherish most is from the first times I watched any movie of one of my heroes, the actor and martial artist named Loren Avedon.

My grandfather had an old TV with a 14-inch screen. Since I studied in the afternoon, while I had lunch to go to school, my grandfather would also drop by home for lunch. My grandmother always prepared a freshly made meal, and my grandfather and I would watch TV while we ate. I remember well when the advertisement for the movie "The King of Kickboxers" was shown. The famous movie announcer, Jorgeh Ramos, gave a brief summary of the movie's story while scenes with Loren Avedon were displayed. I couldn't believe how someone could move so quickly. I was 7 years old, and the censorship of the time didn't allow me to go to the cinema.

Apenas muito tempo depois, uma versão dublada do filme foi lançada em VHS! E eu fiquei simplesmente fascinado pelo filme! Loren Avedon tinha uma incrível presença na tela. E você imediatamente queria ser como ele... Desde o jeito de andar, as roupas que ele usava e a determinação dele para vingar a morte de seu irmão. Você se apaixonava junto com ele pela lindíssima atriz Sherie Rose, que interpretava seu interesse romântico no filme [FOTO].

A fotografia do filme era algo tão especial, que mesmo para uma criança como era o meu caso, trazia um sentimento estranho de nostalgia... A trilha sonora de fundo era simples, mas muito bem composta, e fazia você ficar imerso naquela viagem em busca de vingança, a cada pista que ele encontrava sobre o paradeiro do personagem de Billy Blanks, seu antagonista no filme

And you immediately wanted to be like him... From the way he walked, the clothes he wore, and his determination to avenge his brother's death. You fell in love with the gorgeous actress Sherie Rose, who portrayed his romantic interest in the film [PHOTO].

The film's cinematography was something so special that even for a child like myself, it brought a strange feeling of nostalgia... The background soundtrack was simple but very well composed, and it made you immersed in that journey for revenge, with each clue he found about the whereabouts of Billy Blanks' character, his antagonist in the movie

Sabe, é difícil dizer o quanto o trabalho desse ator me influenciou, não só para perseguir o meu sonho de me tornar um profissional de artes marciais, mas também para poder viver e proteger esse sonho! Os desafios de trabalhar com artes marciais no Brasil são muito grandes e, mesmo com toda a responsabilidade que tenho com o legado que recebi do meu Mestre e com a confiança que meus discípulos têm em mim, há momentos em que você sente como se o desafio fosse grande demais. Em momentos assim, lembro-me de quando era criança e adolescente, e do quão encantado eu ficava ao sonhar acordado com a ideia de viver uma vida como a dos personagens dos filmes de Loren Avedon. O quanto eu busquei uma relação de Mestre e Discípulo como a dele com Keith Cooke [FOTO]... São as lembranças de memórias como essas que nos ajudam a seguir adiante com o que nos é mais valioso..

You know, it's hard to express just how much this actor's work influenced me, not only to pursue my dream of becoming a professional martial artist, but also to be able to live and safeguard that dream! The challenges of working with martial arts in Brazil are quite significant, and even with all the responsibility I carry from the legacy I received from my Master and the trust my disciples place in me, there are moments when you feel like the challenge is too immense. In times like these, I recall my childhood and teenage years, and how enchanted I would become daydreaming about living a life like the characters in Loren Avedon's movies. How much I sought a Master and Disciple relationship like his with Keith Cooke [PHOTO ABOVE]... It's memories of moments like these that help us move forward with what's most valuable to us

Meu avô não está mais entre nós, e de fato a vida passa na velocidade de um sopro... Mas também é na velocidade de um sopro que podemos viajar até onde nossos sonhos começaram a tomar forma... E quando descobri que muito mais difícil do que realizar um sonho é a capacidade de mantê-lo vivo. Sempre que necessário, volto àquela mesa de almoço junto com meu avô no dia em que assisti ao trailer de “O Rei dos Kickboxers” pela primeira vez e Loren Avedon saltou da tela! Sonhos se realizam, mas o que seria de nós sem os nossos heróis que nos inspiraram a persegui-los. Este é um artigo sobre um dos meus heróis, Loren Avedon.
