THE GRANDMASTERS : A MASTER-PIECE! (THE GRANDMASTERS: UMA OBRA-PRIMA!)

Acabei nesse momento de assistir "The Grandmasters". O filme escrito e dirigido por Wong Kar Wai que finalmente foi lançado. E devo dizer que durante as horas que estive em frente a TV presenciei um dos melhores filmes de Kung Fu que assisti em minha vida inteira!

Na verdade, havia ganhado uma cópia apenas em mandarim desse filme de meu Si Dai Marcelo Ormond, mas a cena inicial com a luta na chuva me desanimou logo de inicio e parei de assistir porque achei que seria só pancadaria do inicio ao fim.
 Recentemente, meu interesse pelo filme se renovou, quando meu Si Sok Jones comentou que Si Gung havia gostado muito. Fiquei imaginando o motivo, e que surpresa quando o querido amigo, o Mestre de Hung Ga com mais de 20 anos de trabalho no Rio de Janeiro, o Sr Luis Antonio, fez questão de me presentear com um DVD do filme que recebi no Mo Gun do Méier hoje.

I just watched "The Grandmasters". The film written and directed by Wong Kar Wai which was finally released. And I must say that during the time I was in front of the TV I witnessed one of the best Kung Fu movies that I watched in my entire life!

In fact, I had won a copy in Mandarin only , of this movie from my Si Dai Marcelo Ormond, but the opening scene with the fight in the rain discouraged me and  I stopped watching because I thought it would just about fight untill the end .
  Recently, my interest in the film was renewed when my Si Sok Jones commented that Si Gung liked very much. I wondered why, and what a surprise when my dear friend, the master of Hung Ga with over 20 years of work in Rio de Janeiro, Mr Luis Antonio, insisted on presenting me with a DVD of the film that received at the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Meier Mo Gun today.

Eu poderia fazer uma postagem inteira falando do quanto fiquei estupefato com a belíssima fotografia, e com as cenas de ação. Mas duas coisas na verdade me chamaram a atenção nesta obra-prima:
Primeiro: Se você tem a oportunidade de aprender mandarim, faça isso! Olha, o roteiro escrito por Wong Kar Wai não foi bem representado na limitada legenda do filme. Os Mestres no filme se comunicam quase que o tempo todo através de metáforas, que passam suas intenções ocultas. Mas não é só isso...

I could make an entire post talking about how I was amazed with the beautiful photography, and the action scenes. But two things really caught my attention this masterpiece: 
First: If you have the opportunity to learn Mandarin, do it! Look, the script written by Wong Kar Wai was not well represented in the limited film subtitles. The Masters in the movie communicate almost all the time through metaphors, who spend their hidden intentions. But that's not all ...

... No arco do filme que se passa em Faat Saan(Fo Shan), os personagens falam em mandarim. E a escolha do texto, mostra o quão cultos  Wong Kar Wai e sua equipe de consultoria são. Isso porque, as palavras são cuidadosamente escolhidas não só para formarem metáforas, mas também para rimarem. Aumentando ainda mais a musicalidade já presente no idioma mandarim. É inacreditável!

... In the arc of the film about Faat Saan (Fo Shan), the characters speak in Mandarin. And the choice of text, shows how cults Wong Kar Wai and his consulting team are. This is because the words are carefully chosen not only to form metaphors, but also to rhyme. Further enhancing the musicality already present in the Mandarin language. It's unbelievable!

A genialidade do roteiro, destaca quem são os Mestres dentro da história, através de sua capacidade de articulação com a lingua, o pensamento e a interpretação do que foi dito pelo outro. Eu devo dizer que fazia tempo que não me emocionava nesse nível! Por favor, estudem chinês se puderem! Nosso idioma ainda que seja belíssimo, não contempla a amplitude do mandarim.

The geniality of the script, highlights who are the masters in the history, through one´s ability with the language, thought and interpretation of what was said by the other. I must say have been a long of time that some movie touched me at that level! Please study Chinese if you can! Our languages in the west even though they are beautiful, does not address the breadth of chinese language.

Com relação as cenas de Kung Fu? Bom, a direção de fotografia, ação e drama, fizeram um trabalho maravilhoso! É de ficar sem palavras, com todas as cenas onde a Mestria de alguém, é reconhecida através do movimento,mas não porque este alguém nocauteou o outro, mas sim, porque os dois adversários durante toda a luta estão numa outra dimensão onde conseguem se comunicar sem o uso de palavras. Como na fabulosa cena onde o Grão-Mestre da Familia Gong pede que Ip Man tente pegar o bolo da mão dele. Um dos personagens que assiste a cena, narra o que o roteiro busca naquela cena, através do exemplo da técnica que o líder da Familia Gong está usando.

And what about the scenes of Kung Fu? Well, the photography, action and drama direction, did a wonderful job! It made me running out of words, with all the scenes where the mastery of someone, was recognized through movement, but not because this one knocked the other. But because the two rivals throughout the fight are in another dimension where they can communicate without the use of words. As the fabulous scene where the Grand Master of Family Gong asks Ip Man to try to get the cake out of his hand. One of the characters watching the scene, tells the us what the script was trying to show in that scene, through the example of the technique explanation that the leader of Familia Gong is using.

E se você que assistiu passou o filme pensando: "Mas isso não aconteceu com Ip Man!" , "Isso foi verdade?"....   Por favor, assista de novo. Porque você estava olhando pro lugar errado!

If you was watching thinking about: "Is this really happened?" , "It did not happen with Ip Man!". Dude, watch again... Seriously, you look to the wrong place.

Particularmente, o filme me emocionou muito. E obviamente lembrei de muitas pessoas enquanto assistia. Mas posso resumir todas essas lembranças na figura do Si Fu. 

É impressionante, que logo eu que sempre desisti de tantas coisas na minha vida, esteja ainda caminhando o caminho do Ving Tsun. E isso só foi possível graças ao Si Fu. 

Si Fu não me ensinou apenas as "técnicas" que eu tanto queria aprender, me ensinou na verdade uma maneira nova de viver. Porque enquanto eu estava ali conseguindo entender o diálogo do filme, eu lembrei dele me pedindo pra estudar chinês há 9 anos atrás e lembrei dele com os livros do Julien há anos atrás também que eu achava super chatos, estudando a tarde no Mo Gun com o Si Sok Antonio Eduardo e mais alguém de quem não me recordo. Quando eu apreciava mais uma cena "parada" do que uma de "Luta", lembrava dele me aturando por anos querendo me tornar o novo Bruce Lee. E mais do que agradecer, tudo o que eu e você podemos fazer, é nos assegurarmos de que humildemente, tentaremos fazer algo semelhante, com o mesmo carinho e zelo pelos irmãos kung fu mais novos e por nossos futuros To Dai.

Assistam, quem sabe vocês também curtem!

Particularly, the film touched me very much. And obviously I remembered many people while I was watching. But I can summarize all these memories in the figure of Si Fu.
It's amazing that  me, A guy that always gave up so many things in life, is still walking the path of Ving Tsun. And this was only possible thanks to Si Fu.
Si Fu taught me not only the "techniques" I so wanted to learn, actually taught me a new way of living. Because while I was there  understand the dialogue of the movie, I remember him asking me to study Chinese  9 years ago and also remembered him with books by François Julien also years ago wich I felt super boring, studying in the afternoon at the Mo Gun with Si Sok Antonio Eduardo and someone else who I do not remember now. When I liked a scene more "slow" than one about "Fighting",I remembered him being patience with me for years when I was still trying to become the new Bruce Lee.  And more than  thank him,what you and I can do is assure ourselves that we humbly are going to try to do something similar with the same affection and care for the younger kung fu brothers and our future To Dai.
