CONHEÇA SI TAAI VANISE IMAMURA! (KNOW MORE ABOUT SI TAAI VANISE IMAMURA!)

(Mestre Ursula e Sra.
(Master Ursula and Mrs. Vanise Imamura in the Disciples Anual Meeting in 2004 in Rio)

Next weekend, Si Taai Vanise Imamura, wife of Si Gung will be in Rio for  an event organized by MYVT Copacabana School, which is under the direction of Si Sok Ursula Lima, lecturing and doing work geared toward parents, professionals and the kids class.
The event receiving the Clan leaders is as important as the practice sessions. Because it is also a component of the program that values MYVT complete training of the practitioner.
( Mestre Ursula Lima com Sra Vanise Imamura nos anos 90)
(Master Ursula Lima and Mrs Vanise Imamura in the 90's)

On February 5, 1994 , when Si Sok was still 15 years old , Si Taai wrote a document that would help develop the organizational thinking to the MYVT schools heads at the time. The spirit of the document continues today . Here are some parts of the text that Si Taai wrote , which show how careful attention , is also present in any action of our day-to-day ...

" ... To organize a seminar , it is not only to know what you have to do before, during and after the event .  Is of utmost importance to consider the tripod formed by: organizers , public and speaker .... Because it is a Ving Tsun event , you need to know to reconcile your obligations as a member of the  Kung Fu Family and as a leader of your organization , and finally, you must be and act as a professional ... the organizer should not confuse his roles of To Dai and professional ( be a " son " when he should be professional and be professional when he should be a " son " ) ... the guest ( Si Gung , Daai Si Hing , etc. ) will be ' fixed ' during the event , and can not worry about extra problems... ... "
(Master Ursula went with Master Julio Camacho to Sao Paulo , and had some meal with her Master Leo Imamura and his wife Mrs Vanise Imamura.)

In 2002 , I had the opportunity to spend a whole weekend with Si Taai . She spoke about her work with children through the Ving Tsun . About respecting the child , and not teach them  like  "small adults " and yes, through play activities involving the Ving Tsun , awaken in each one , their " inner warrior " . This idea , which at the time Si Taai used the book " Iron John " by Robert Bly as example  :

" ... When a boy growing up in a dysfunctional family ( there may not be any other type of Family ) , his inner warriors will be dead very soon. Warriors , mythologically , raise their swords to defend the king . The king in a child represents and defends her spirit´s mood . But when we are children our mood is easily conditioned and dominated by mood more powerful , stronger, more terrifying , from the parents in a confused family . Could say that when inner warriors  can not protect our mood from the disintegration or defend our body from invasion , the warriors collapse, go into a trance and die . warriors that I speak do not cross the limit aggressively . they exist , to defend this limit ... " ( excerpt from " Iron John " by Robert Bly )

SPECIAL REVIEW: NOVO FILME DE IP MAN!(NEW IP MAN MOVIE! "THE LAST FIGHT")

In another film about Ip Man, the patriarch of  Ving Tsun Clan. We see an increasing maturity of the filmmakers with the dealing with his history. No more fights against 10 opponents at once, but a further deepening in the conduct and teachings of Ip Man who became one of the greatest kung fu masters of all time.

"Ip Man-Final Fight" is a direct sequel to "Ip Man, The Legend is Born", both directed by Herman Yau (photo long hair), which shows an incredible ability to overcome, to thrill the audience with a touching story to the extreme, where the fight scenes, though few, almost hinder a beautiful story. Unlike what happens with "Legend is Born"

Anthony Wong does a masterful job as the skin of older Ip Man, who at one point in the film, you really believe you're seeing the patriarch in action. Especially for those who know Anthony Wong of other works, or his way more stripped down in day-to-day, is impressed how he brings with to life a scholastic Ip Man

The film focuses more on the issue of Kung Fu Family, and the coexistence Among these individuals connected by the Ving Tsun. Early in the film, we are introduced to Leung Sheung (Timmy Hung), the first disciple of Ip Man in Hong Kong. In the above scene, the two had lunch.

Leung Sheung (photo), is the Daai Si Hing of Ip Man Kung Fu Family in Hong Kong. The film clearly shows the importance he had for the establishment of this  kung fu family in HK when his character in the movie says that if things had not gone so wrong for Ip Man in Faat Saan, and that if he was not at that time the representative of the Workers Union and granted the place for trainning and convinced others to practice, Ip Man would not become the great teacher he was ...

Below a note from Inside Kung Fu when Leung Sheung saddly passed away:

Si Fu Leung Sheung foi o primeiro discípulo do Grande Mestre Ip Man do estilo Ving Tsun.

The film seems to try to answer a series of questions for practitioners of all levels, as in this scene where Ip Man scolds two to dai who fought in the street. One of them answers saying that Ving Tsun is useless if it is not for fight. The rejoinder of Ip Man is that he can teach him to swim, So the To Dai can save a life, but never throw someone in the sea.

Ip Man's wife , Mrs Jeung Wing Sing is better played in this movie. Her part in the movie is very loyal to the real history. She came after Ip Man to Hong Kong and go away to Faat Saan without him.

Ip Man's way of life is very well represented when being left by his wife, his conduct remains intact. How narrates the character in the scene where Wing Sing boards the train for Faat Saan: "... That was the last time I saw  Si Mo... Si Fu did not seem mind to be lonelly, he went on as always . But I often saw him seems lost in the solitude ... "

But in the middle of all this humanity of the characters and relationships in Kung Fu circle, the scene that made me cry literally for the second time was that above. Because ... How can I tell? It is a group of people, which has no blood-bonds, gathered around a man whom they call "Si Fu" and all that connects them is the Ving Tsun. And make them live as Family ...

For me, it was so strong, that the video below with some of my best times with my Si Fu Julio Camacho, may reflect that feeling.

Another highlight of the film is  the gathering of Ip Man with Bruce Lee.
The relationship is handled with elegance, leaving understood much clearer.Remember that you can check out the legend about the disagree between the two in BRUCE LEE SPECIAL in this Blog. Of course! Much more about Bruce!
Follow below the trailer of this fantastic work and do not miss to watch! You will be touched!

JANTAR COM SI FU : KUNG FU E O TEMPO ( DINNER WITH SI FU: KUNG FU AND TIME)

(Thats me, Si Fu and his daughter Julia. His older daughter, Jade, was the one who took the pic)

Earlier this year,Si Fu said that he has more time available to spend with Kung Fu Family this year. And I managed to enjoy moments with Si Fu  and often with his family as well, as this Friday evening when we dined together a delicious (or not) pasta... lol

(Some meal with Si Fu and Gui Farias in the afternoon!)

When we seek to practice a martial art, in most cases, it is unthinkable that we can achieve mastery in this art by any other way but through constant practice, which many call training. And any other way than this is a waste of time. Like said Carl Von Clausewitz in his book "On War": "... Thinking the war from combat while isolatable act, we can only conceive from many several successive actions or, at most, narrowing connecting them as a 'combat gear' ... "
So Clausewitz could not conceive the notion of time when it comes to war, whether through a simple moment or the whole war, but only as a constant sum of moments of action ...
(Si Sok Ursula, with the son of Si Gung, Lukas Imamura, in the 90's during a visit of Si Taai Gung Moy Yat in Sao Paulo, Brazil)

But one of my favorite authors, the french sinologist François Julien, cites Chinese strategists who value time process: "... That time between fights is not a time sterile, or dead time, as they say, even if it seems inactive, because this course allows an evolution through which the balance of power may lie finally to the good side. no dilution in time, but the maturation of the time, in it the effect is not lost, but unfolds itself ... "
(Bruce e Si Jo Ip Man em foto em restaurante)
(Bruce and Si Jo Ip Man, at the restaurant)

(Julia looks to the lady of the Pasta Restaurant)

When we had dinner together, or at any other time than during a practice session, I am also developing my Kung Fu with Si Fu. Not that we have a definite plan when we are together. And
Si Fu also does not speak in riddles or anything I've ever seen in a movie ... Just sit, eat, talk, and we're taking advantage supporting the potential of everything that happens and everything that is said. As Si Gung has said: "... Kung Fu can not be taught but can be learned ..."

BLOG DO PEREIRA: Você já praticou alguma arte marcial antes do Ving Tsun? Quais?

BLOG DO PEREIRA: Did you practice any martial art before the Ving Tsun? Which ones?

Leo Reis: I practice martial arts since the age of 8. I started, like every child of the time in Brazil with Judo (as I was quite chubby and a lot heavier than my buddies, I did great!). Then, inspired by the movie session "Black Belt" that were shown on Tuesday nights on Globo TV. I fell in love with kung-fu and started training Shotokan Karate, which was what I found to train close to home (funny that the teacher insisted on "pretend" it was the same thing I watched on tv). After some time a gym with Northern Shaolin came near my house and I was finally initiated in Chinese arts. After that I trained several other styles of kung-fu, such as Tai Chi. Pa kua and Eagle Claw, and other arts like Aikido, Jodo and Tae Kwon Do. Until "Wing Chun" in another "family" I practiced a bit.
(Si Hing Leo chega de voadora durante evento com as crianças: Hoje quase adultos!rs Em 2009)
(Si hing´s flying kick! Children´s seminar in 2009!)

(For almost 3 years, Si Hing leaded the children´s practice at MYVT Barra school! His two kids were also in that classes.)

BLOG DO PEREIRA: Could you talk a little bit about your work that began with the support  of Si sok Fernanda Neves with children in Siu Ye Kuen on Saturdays?

Leo Reis: Our goal is to use the Ving Tsun as a means of overall development of children in physical, emotional, intellectual and cultural way. Thats why  the term "Siu Ye Kuen" which can be translated as "martial art of the young lords"
The major difference of this work when compared to the traditional system applied to older, is that despite our "young lords" were initially less mature fields mentioned, in return we have a much more fertile ground to plant.
This greatly increases our responsibility because we need to plant the right seeds, water them at the correct time and direct branches are born every day to the correct path.
It is a huge challenge, but fortunately beyond Si sok Fernanda, I could rely on the talents of other kung fu brothers, like yourself, Felipe Soares, Thiago Silva and Carlos Antunes, just to name the most "regulars".
We are always watching and learning what happens in each session, so our fingers are becoming greener and we are increasingly shady trees.

(Si Hing Leo Reis is very old in kung fu family, as we see in this photo of a Ceremony held at the old MYVT Downtown School. He Began in 1998 and had the opportunity to practice with the young Fabio Gomes and Ursula Lima, our Si Sok and qualified Masters today. Also we see in that picture, some legendary figures such as Si Sok Monique, Si Sok Paulinho and Joao Castellani)

BLOG DO PEREIRA: Do you remember your goals when you joined the Family? Now they have changed?

Leo Reis: I remember well the day I presented my goals to Si fu. I had just finished watching a championship in which I witnessed very beautiful and artistic forms, followed by some fights in the best "kickboxe" style  which had nothing to do with the presentation of forms. I knew at the time that "the guys" trained one thing and applied another. Although this did not apply directly to me (if I had to fight I'd use the kung-fu that I had at the time with no doubt) got talking about it, in a tone half indignant with Si fu and wanted consistency between practice and effective struggle. Briefly my only goal was to fight wonderfully well, as in the movies of my childhood.
Currently I see that the fight itself is even quite fun (at least for me), but it is just a tiny fraction that Ving Tsun can offer. A few years ago if I had stepped into a fight and had caught, I would be very frustrated and would probably find that all my training would have been a total waste of time. Today I do not think so, because  VingTsun gives me much more than the ability to win a fight (and looks it gives me this in a range that I could ever imagine), so it would certainly take a beating a little disappointed, but never repented .
To conclude, I will make a comment I made a few times in Mo Gun: When I joined, I wanted an action movie, in a scenario with a touch of martial arts philosophy and oriental culture, now increasingly I appreciate a philosophical and cultural movie, but with great action scenes.

(Actually, Si Hing was a member of the Moy Yat Sang Family. But because the relationship developed with Si Fu,he formally requested to be admitted to the  Moy Jo Lei Ou Family. A moment immortalized in the photo above. Maneuver that is accepted in the Mo Lam .)

Leo Reis: Como diria o Homem Aranha: "Com grandes poderes vem grandes responsabilidades".

BLOG DO PEREIRA: You are the Daai Si Hing of Moy Jo Lei Ou Family, how do you see this condition?

Leo Reis: How Spider Man would say: "With great power comes great responsibility." Seeking to honor the most of that title, which I had the great privilege of receiving. Giving, within my personal characteristics, what's best in me to my kung-fu brothers and obviously to Si fu. To me it is a great pride to be his first disciple and be part of the history of a master who has written his name in the History of Ving Tsun. I'll keep working on it over the years, so that choice can have a positive balance and really make a difference in the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family.

(Then, two months later, Si Hing becomes disciple of Si Fu. Their First on in his Kung Fu Family. On the date, Si Hing earned the name "Moy Lei Wong." "Lei" also means "advantage", but it is a also quibble with "Leo". "Wong", also means "King", a reference to his surname "Reis", wich in portuguese means "Kings". But these are just guesses, you'll have to ask him .. hehe The small characters,  besides the registration says : "number one disciple of Moy Jo Lei Ou Family")

BLOG DO PEREIRA: How do you see your relationship with your Si fu?

Leo Reis: Si fu is a very special person, with an ability to relate wonderfully well with people of diverse profiles. I think our relationship evolves every day and flows naturally, in a continuous intense learning. I hope he will enjoy our relationship because everything indicates that he will have to put up with me all my life.

BLOG DO PEREIRA: What was your most difficult moment in the beginning as a practitioner?

Leo Reis: Siu Nim Tau was very easy. I arrived at a time when the family was reducing the time spent in the  levels and with the body experience which I had already , I concluded the level in record time.
Then came the Cham Kiu. I remember to this day, When I went out of the training sessions all times with headache since made an enormous mental effort to coordinate members, both in form and Chi Sau, almost always without success. I did not know what was worse, if my form or my gangly uncoordinated Chi Sau.
But I think the main challenge was to see myself, find myself and truly participate in kung-fu family.

BLOG DO PEREIRA: Have you ever had to use Ving Tsun physically outside the training? how was it?

Leo Reis: I use Ving Tsun daily in my work, in the education of my children, in my relationships. Even in other physical activities. I evolves quite even practicing them almost never. As a striker in soccer, for example, I've improved a lot (I was horrible and now I'm just really bad). Anyway it really fully guided my day-to-day.
In terms of struggle and I hope never be incompetent enough to have to use it. But once I used my skills of "chi geuk"(Stick Legs) to save my daughter when she almost hit her head very hard on the ground. She had a couple of years, or a little less, and threw herself backwards off the bed upside down. I was lying in bed and quickly threw my leg "sticking" to her neck and threw her "face" back on the bed. She was not hurt, did not cry and was not scared, the operation was very successfully! Sorry , But this was the closest to "ever had to use the Ving Tsun physically out of practice" that I could remember ....

BLOG DO PEREIRA: De todos estes anos, consegue lembrar de algum fato marcante, engraçado? Quais?

BLOG DO PEREIRA: In all these years in the Family,Do you can remember a remarkable funny moment? What?

Leo Reis: I'll talk about my first visit when I met personally Si fu.
Actually  I took my partner with me ,Arthur, so we were two to know the Ving Tsun.
The talk with Si Fu was a real show and I remember three moments that were marked in my memory to this day.
In the first moment Si fu touched a point close to my shoulder and asked me to protect this area because he would try to hit it. It would be easy with all my experience in martial arts. But I could not do it.
Impressed by the physical defeat, Si fu said about people who spend years doing breathing exercises (known as Hei Kung) to develop superhuman abilities, including "rooting". We did a test to try to keep the foot on the ground, without success. Seconds later, after a very brief explanation, Arthur's feet seemed glued to the floor (next to my chin that was down there too).
To finish, Si fu shared a whiteboard in four sectors and asked what quadrant would I choose to strike. I Hardly had chosen, he asked me if it would be the number 3. Startled, nodded while Arthur spoke he had chosen the same sector.Would we have been victims of some secret technique of chinese hypnosis?
Arthur the next day, very impressed bought the book "The Art of War" and demonstrated at home, proudly, rooting techniques acquired in "years" of training. Despite the excitement he never came to our school, probably not unmotivated to Si fu to the question "Ving Tsun get you in shape?".
As for me, I needed to find out what had happened that magic day. I'm trying untill now ...

BLOG DO PEREIRA: From arts you practiced before finding the Moy Yat Ving Tsun. Why did you pursued them?

Leo Reis: Some I practiced for a few years (think no more than two) and other for a few months, but although I liked to practice all of them, there was always a moment when I decided to "take a little break to come back later." Only I never went back. Always felt I needed to find a place that I really found myself.

BLOG DO PEREIRA: Como conheceu a Moy Yat Ving Tsun?

BLOG DO PEREIRA: How did you found Moy Yat Ving Tsun?

Leo Reis: I  always read about Moy Yat Ving Tsun in the Kiai magazines and visited the old MYVT Jacarepagua school . Attended some presentation and was very impressed. Still got two years to return, because I thought the place was a bit away ...
When I returned I began taking private sessions at home because Lucas was just born , I thought it was  too much far away the Mo Gun. Si fu accepted  my condition to teach me at home but "mysteriously" began to be replaced by a Si hing that "mysteriously" began to disappear as well. Within a short time I was attending classes at Mo Gun and joining the family ...

BLOG DO PEREIRA: Sihing, have you ever thought about stop training and why?

Leo Reis:In  these 15 years, only really walked away twice, for about one year each time. It was the birth of my daughter and the death of my father. But even then I was convinced that it was only necessary breaks. The only thing that used to bother me was the financial issue, but never enough to get me to stop.
Currently I plan to train Ving Tsun until 108 years old, but if I die before it I will stop (at least in this plan).

Leo Reis: Sinto-me extasiado.

BLOG DO PEREIRA:  How do you feel, coordinating the training of your own children: Lucas and Luana?

Leo Reis: I feel ecstatic. Every parent loves their children to share their passions. And when that passion can help them, in fact, be better people, is really indescribable.

BLOG DO PEREIRA: Can you leave a final message for everyone?

Leo Reis: If you're doing a lot of effort to accomplish something, it is because we are yet to realize the easy way. And almost always the difference between the hard and the soft track, lies not in big things, but in the details. An inch, a degree,  a minute, a word, a phone, a gesture or a smile can make all the difference.
