A coffee with Master Julio Camacho during the morning breeze

Durante a Visita Oficial do meu Si Fu, combinamos um café da manhã reservado para membros seniores de nossa Família Kung Fu. Apesar de apenas eu e Roberto Viana estarmos  com Si Fu nas fotos, Claudio Teixeira e meu Si Hing Leonardo Reis também estiveram presentes. Eu havia sugerido um tema previamente, mas Si Fu preferiu abrir para os demais que também estavam presentes. De alguma maneira, todos tinham dúvidas a respeito da transmissão e preservação do Sistema Ving Tsun no futuro. Si Fu, que naquela manhã trajava o uniforme completo do "Instituto Julio Camacho" (Instituição que leva seu nome), parecia já, pela própria vestimenta, bem animado com as possibilidades desta nova fase de sua carreira. Quem sabe até mesmo um último ato na sua carreira antes de sua aposentadoria. Com isso, Si Fu falava com muita animação sobre seu novo momento, seu olhar atualizado sobre como a transmissão e preservação do Ving Tsun pode ocorrer, respeitando as características pessoais de cada Líder de Família que possa surgir a partir da Família Moy Jo Lei Ou. Mesmo com uma pergunta que meu Si Hing tomou todo o cuidado para fazer, a respeito de como ele pensava em conduzir sua Família no futuro, Si Fu foi totalmente a favor. Acho que vi o Si Hing se surpreender, ou talvez tenha apenas imaginado coisas... Porém, independentemente do que foi dito, chamou-me a atenção, de fato, a animação do Si Fu enquanto falava. Era uma fala com muita energia e extremamente contagiante. A impressão, em momentos assim, é que, independentemente do quão difícil o final de um ciclo tenha sido, o olhar ávido do Si Fu para a próxima etapa é tão impressionantemente energético que parece que tudo eram etapas pensadas para se chegar exatamente naquele ponto...

During the Official Visit of my Si Fu, we arranged a reserved breakfast for senior members of our Kung Fu Family. Although only Roberto Viana and I were with Si Fu in the photos, Claudio Teixeira and my Si Hing Leonardo Reis were also there. I had suggested a topic beforehand, but Si Fu preferred to open it up to the others who were present. Somehow, everyone had questions regarding the transmission and preservation of the Ving Tsun System in the future. Si Fu, who that morning was wearing the complete uniform of the ' Julio Camacho Institute' (an institution named after him), seemed already, by his attire alone, quite enthusiastic about the possibilities of this new phase in his career. Perhaps even a final act before his retirement. With this, Si Fu spoke with great animation about his new moment, his updated perspective on how the transmission and preservation of Ving Tsun can occur, respecting the personal characteristics of each Family Leader that may emerge from the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family. Even with a question that my Si Hing took great care to ask regarding how he envisioned leading his Family in the future, Si Fu was entirely supportive. I think I saw Si Hing being surprised, or maybe I just imagined things... Nevertheless, regardless of what was said, it truly caught my attention, the enthusiasm of Si Fu as he spoke. It was a speech full of energy and extremely optimisc. The impression in moments like these is that, regardless of how challenging the end of a cycle may have been, Si Fu's eager gaze towards the next stage is so impressively energetic that it seems as if everything were steps designed to lead to that exact point.

Acontece que aquele café da manhã me fez pensar muito em uma vez em que eu e Si Fu entramos juntos em um dos grandes elevadores do CEO Offices na Zona Oeste do Rio. Si Fu apoiou-se em uma barra de ferro em uma das extremidades do elevador, e eu me apoiei na outra. Ficamos em silêncio, e Si Fu começou a falar comigo. O assunto girava em torno de um irmão Kung Fu muito querido que havia se afastado dois anos antes de maneira não tão bacana e havia retomado o contato no café da manhã poucos minutos antes. Como sempre fomos muito próximos, Si Fu talvez tenha achado válido me alertar. Do que acredito ter ouvido, ele teria dito o seguinte: 'Pereira, evita entrar em qualquer tipo de assunto com ele relacionado ao que aconteceu... Evita chamar a atenção ou tentar dar lição de moral, sabe?' - Si Fu me olhou e prosseguiu - 'Não deve ter sido fácil para ele retomar o contato; ele já deve estar com muita coisa na cabeça... É importante ele ter espaço para respirar. Evita tocar em qualquer tema, e se vir alguém fazendo, neutraliza... Na hora certa, eu converso com ele...' Eu concordei e nunca falei com esse irmão Kung Fu. Porém, não deixei de refletir sobre o quanto, muitas vezes, mesmo tendo tido prejuízos de diferentes formas, Si Fu para preservar a relação não tocava no assunto, pois a própria pessoa que causou a situação não estaria em condições de tratar do tema antes que certo tempo tivesse passado.

That breakfast made me reflect on a time when Si Fu and I once entered one of the large elevators at the CEO Offices in the Western Zone of Rio together. Si Fu leaned against an iron bar at one end of the elevator, and I leaned against the other. We remained in silence, and Si Fu began to speak to me. The topic revolved around a much-loved Kung Fu brother who had distanced himself not so amicably two years earlier but had re-established contact just minutes before during the breakfast. Since we had always been very close, Si Fu perhaps found it worthwhile to alert me. From what I believe I heard, he said the following - 'Pereira, avoid getting into any kind of conversation with him related to what happened... Refrain from drawing attention or attempting to say anything, you know?' - Si Fu looked at me and continued - 'It must not have been easy for him to re-establish contact; he must already have a lot on his mind... It's important for him to have breathing space. Avoid touching on any topic, and if you see anyone doing so, neutralize it... At the right time, I will talk to him...' I agreed and never spoke with that Kung Fu brother about anything related. However, I couldn't help but reflect on how often, even though there had been losses in various forms, Si Fu refrained from discussing the matter in order to preserve the relationship, as the person who caused the situation would not be in a position to address the issue until some time had passed

Naquele café da manhã do último domingo, essa história voltava à minha mente diversas vezes... 

Quero terminar com uma frase desconexa em relação ao que foi escrito antes,mas que me ocorreu por estar no fundo de todo o texto,  e que ouvi de Si Fu quando tinha 17 anos e estava prestes a desistir - 'Thiago, sabe qual é a diferença entre um teimoso e um perseverante?' - Balancei a cabeça negativamente, e ele continuou - 'O teimoso tenta, mas desiste no meio; o perseverante vai até o final...' Lembro de ter aberto um sorriso, e Si Fu também sorriu enquanto prosseguia - 'Thiago, quando desistimos, sentimos um grande alívio... Mas quando vamos até o fim do que nos propomos... É uma sensação incomparável...' - Disse Si Fu em uma tarde qualquer de 2002 na recepção do Núcleo Jacarepaguá. Aqueles eram os tempos de altas aventuras.

At that last Sunday's breakfast, this story kept coming back to my mind several times... 

I want to conclude with a disconnected quote from what was written before, but that occurred to me now, which I heard from Si Fu when I was 17 years old and was about to give up - 'Thiago, do you know the difference between being stubborn and being persevering?' - I shook my head negatively, and he continued - 'The stubborn one tries but gives up halfway; the persevering one goes all the way...' I remember smiling, and Si Fu also smiled as he continued - 'Thiago, when we give up, we feel great relief... But when we go all the way with what we set out to do... It's an incomparable feeling...' - Si Fu said one afternoon in 2002 at the reception of the Jacarepaguá Centre. Those were the times of high adventures
