Hoje o Blog do Pereira dando continuidade as comemoracoes de 3 anos do Blog (e ainda com o teclado ruim) vai falar de Bruce Lee na terceira parte de seu especial e de seu Si Hing , o chamado "Rei do Gong Sau"(講手王): Wong Shun Leung.

"Ainda que tecnicamente eu seja aluno de Ip Man, eu aprendi meu Kung Fu com voce" - escreveu Bruce Lee certa vez para ele.

Wong Shun Leung marcou epoca na Familia Kung Fu de Ip Man, porque muitos o consideravam o "Rei" de algo que ainda acontecia naqueles dias: O Gong Sau(講手)

手 (Sau) - Significa "mao" ou "membro superior". "Sau" eh o mesmo ideograma de "Te" de "Karate".


講(Gong) tem alguns significados muito interessantes, onde um deles eh "negociar". Ainda que os entusiastas e entendidos desta pratica, prefiram o verbo "falar" para sua traducao.

Today the Peartree`s Blog continuing the celebration of 3 years of the Blog (and still with problems on the keyboard) will talk about Bruce Lee in the third part of his special and his Si Hing, called the "Gong Sau King " (讲 手王): Wong Shun Leung.

"Even though technically I am a student of Ip Man, I learned my Kung Fu from you" - Bruce Lee wrote once to him.

Wong Shun Leung marked a time in Ip Man`s Kung Fu Family, because many considered him as the "King" of something that was still happening in those days: The Gong Sau (講 手)

手 (Sau) - means "hand" . "Sau" is the same character of "Te" from "Karate".
講 (Gong) has some very interesting meanings, where one of them is " to negotiate". While enthusiasts and understood in this practice, prefer the verb "to talk" to his translation.

Mas se voce esta pensando que se trata da velha brincadeira do "entao fala aqui com a minha mao", voce se enganou!
Gong Sau era quando dois praticantes se enfrentavam fisicamente em um desafio valendo tudo que a etica para com o outro ser humano permitisse.

But if you're thinking that this is the old joke of "then talks to my hand," you were wrong!
Gong Sau was when two practitioners were engaged in a physical challenge worth all that ethics allows to do to another human being.

Naquela epoca, era dificil encontrar mais de um representante de um estilo numa mesma cidade. Assim sendo, era mais do que comum num desafio, o aluno nao so representar o trabalho de seu Si Fu como todo o seu estilo.

E por vencer alguns desses desafios old school, Wong Shun Leung ganhou o apelido de "Rei do Gong Sau". Ainda que eu se estivesse la naquela epoca teria colocado o apelido nele de "Charles Bronson". O cara eh igual!

Por essas e outras, os treinos coordenados por Wong eram sempre lotados, e eh ai que entra o jovem Bruce Lee na historia...

At that time, it was hard to find more than one representative of a style in the same city. Therefore, it was very common in a challenge, the students not only represent the work of his Si Fu but also the whole style.

And as he won some of these old schoo challenges , Wong Shun Leung earned the nickname of "King of the Gong Sau". But if I were there at that time would have put him the nickname of "Charles Bronson". hehe

For these and other reasons, Wong`s training sessions were always crowded, and here enters the young Bruce Lee in the history ...

Em Hong Kong, os espacos sempre foram muito pequenos. Mesmo para a pratica de Ving Tsun faltava espaco pra tanta gente! Ainda mais num treino tao disputado como o de Wong Shun Leung. Por isso, Bruce Lee protagonizou uma das muitas lendas da turma de Ip Man mais divertidas:

Eh contado que o maroto Bruce Lee chegava mais cedo do que todos ate o local onde os treinos ocorriam. Ficava em pe na porta e quando ia chegando o pessoal ele dizia: "Se liga ai! O Si Hing disse que nao vem hoje e pediu pra avisar."
E assim ele fazia ateh que todos que fossem chegando desistissem e voltassem pra casa.
Ate que chegava nosso Charles Bronson Wong Shun Leung, que perguntava: "Garoto, cade todo mundo?"
"Si Hing, to aqui ja ha uma hora e nao veio ninguem."

E assim Bruce conseguia aulas privativas com Wong.rsrs

Se voce imaginou Bruce Lee com uma blusa listrada de malandro e um som de cuica no fundo eu tambem pensei nisso!rs

In Hong Kong, the spaces were very small. Even for the practice of Ving Tsunthere was no space for so many people! Even more in training so crowded as Wong Shun Leung`s sessions.
So, Bruce Lee started in one of the many legends of the class of Ip Man but one of the more funiest:
Is told that the smart Bruce Lee came earlier than all up to the location where training would be occurred. Would stand at the door and when some guy arrived he used to said: "Si Hing ask me to say to you guys that today we wont have trainning sessions." . So when our Charles Bronson Wong Shun Leung arrived, he would asked to Bruce: "Boy, where is everybody?"
"Si Hing, I`m here for one houre and no one came."
And so Bruce could have private lessons with Wong hehe

Querido Shun-Leung,

"...Com relacao as artes marciais, eu as pratico diariamente. Eu dou aulas para alunos e amigos duas vezes na semana. E nao importa se eles sao boxeadores ocidentais ou praticantes de Tae Kwon Do ou wrestlers, eu os ensinarei contanto que sejam amigos. Desde que comecei a praticar de forma realistica em 1966(usando protetores,luvas,etc) Eu sinto que fui muito prejudicado antes disso, e "eles" estavam errados. Entao eu mudei o nome do que eu treino para Jeet Kune Do. Mas Jeet Kune Do eh so um nome. O mais importante eh evitar evitar vieses no treino. Claro, eu corro todos os dias. Pratico soco, chutes,projecoes,etc. Eu tenho melhorado minhas condicoes basicas diariamente. Apesar de que boxear eh importante , na verdade o mais importante. Eu agradeco ao Si Fu (Ip Man) por me ensinar Ving Tsun em Hong Kong. Na verdade, eu tenho que agradecer a voce por me guiar num caminho pratico. Especialmente nos EUA,existem boxeadores ocidentais, eu eu com frequencia pratico com eles. Existem muitos auto-denominados mestres de Ving Tsun aqui. E eu realmente espero que eles nao estejam cegos para lutarem com estes boxeadores... ...Nos somos amigos intimos e necessitamos nos encontrar mais para papear sobre o passado. Sera muito divertido nao acha? Quando vir o Si Fu, mande lembrancas por mim. Que a felicidade esteja com voce! Bruce Lee"

Dear Shun-Leung

... As for the martial arts, I practice them daily. I give lessons to students and friends twice a week. And no matter if they are Western boxers or practitioners of Tae Kwon Do or wrestlers, I will teach as long as they are friends. Since I started practicing in a realistically way in 1966 (using protectors, gloves, etc.) I feel that I was very prejudice before, and "they" were wrong. So I changed the name of what I train for Jeet Kune Do. But Jeet Kune Do is just a name. The most important is to avoid biases in training. Of course, I run every day. Practice punching, kicking, projections, etc.. I have improved my basic conditions daily. Although boxing is important, indeed the most important. I appreciate the Si Fu (Ip Man) for teaching me Ving Tsun in Hong Kong. In fact, I have to thank you for leading me in a practical way. Especially in the U.S., there are Western boxers and I often practice with them. There are many self-named masters of Ving Tsun here. And I really hope they are not blind to fight with these boxers ... ... We are close friends and we need to meet more to chat about the past. It will be so much fun dont you think?
