Você já ouviu falar de “Si Hing”[師兄 ], sendo este um termo do círculo marcial que porta o ideograma “Si”[師]. Este ideograma vem com outro ideograma que lhe atribui uma função: “Hing”[兄]. O ideograma “Hing”[兄] significa “Irmão mais velho”. E exatamente por portar o ideograma “Si”[師], sabemos se tratar de um “Irmão mais velho” diferenciado do que temos muitas vezes em nossas próprias famílias. Afinal, no caso de um “Si Hing”[師兄 ], ele assim é chamado, pois já estaria se preparando para receber você muito antes de te conhecer. Ele já acompanhava seu Si Fu antes de você chegar. Além disso, independente dele ser biologicamente mais velho ou mais novo do que você, para o círculo marcial, isso é irrelevante.

“Si Hing”[師兄 ] não deveria ser um título, “Si Hing”[師兄 ] é uma posição na árvore genealógica de uma Família Kung Fu. É como quando mesmo sendo imaturo, seus pais resolvem ter mais um filho. Você então se torna irmão mais velho apenas por ter nascido primeiro. A diferença, é que no círculo marcial, você chama essa pessoa de “Si Hing”[師兄 ]. Você apenas deve se perguntar se está chamando no automático, ou se de fato, entende a dimensão Kung Fu dessa relação. 

You've heard of “Si Hing”[師兄], which is a term from the martial arts circles that bears the ideogram “Si”[師]. This ideogram comes with another ideogram that assigns it a function: “Hing”[兄]. The character “Hing”[兄] means “Elder Brother”. And precisely because it carries the ideogram “Si”[師], we know that it is an “Older Brother” different from what we often have in our own families. After all, in the case of a “Si Hing”[師兄], he is called that, as he would be preparing to receive you long before he met you. He was already accompanying your Si Fu before you arrived. Also, regardless of whether he is biologically older or younger than you, for the martial arts circles, this is irrelevant.

“Si Hing”[師兄] should not be a title, “Si Hing”[師兄] is a position in the family tree of a Kung Fu Family. It's like when even being immature, your parents decide to have one more child. You then become a big brother just because you were born first. The difference is that in the martial arts circles, you call this person “Si Hing”[師兄]. You just have to ask yourself if you're calling on automatic, or if you actually understand the Kung Fu dimension of this relationship.

Eu e meu “Si Hing”[師兄 ] fomos titulados como Mestres no mesmo dia[foto], ainda que ele já estivesse em condições de sê-lo antes de mim. Por alguma razão, Si Fu achou que seria uma boa ideia fazermos isso juntos. Temos apenas um ano de diferença na entrada na Família Kung Fu, mas devido a nossa diferença de idade, ele já entrou como um homem formado, enquanto eu era apenas um garoto. 

Por ser o mais antigo de todos em atividade, não só chamamos ele de “Si Hing”[師兄 ], mas de  Daai Si Hing [ 大師兄 ]. Observe que “Daai”[ 大] significa “Grande”. Então o Daai Si Hing [ 大師兄 ], é o “irmão mais velho dos irmãos mais velhos”. Então essa parece-me uma posição um tanto quanto solitária. E é por entender isso, que sendo o “Número 2” da Família, que faço questão de chamá-lo de  “Si Hing”[師兄 ]. Pois não tenho a oportunidade de chamar mais ninguém desta maneira no dia a dia da Família Kung Fu. 

Me and my “Si Hing”[師兄] were titled as Masters on the same day[photo], even though he was already in a position to do so before me. For some reason, Si Fu thought it would be a good idea for us to do this together. We are only a year apart in joining the Kung Fu Family, but due to our age difference, he already joined as a  man while I was just a boy.

As the oldest of all in activity, we not only call him just as “Si Hing”[師兄], but Daai Si Hing [大師兄]. Note that “Daai”[ 大] means “Big”. So Daai Si Hing [ 大師兄 ], is the “elder brother of the older brothers”. So this seems to me a rather lonely position. And it is because I understand this, that being the “Number 2” of the Family, I make a point of calling him “Si Hing”[師兄]. Because I don't have the opportunity to call anyone else this way in the daily life of the Kung Fu Family.

Tinha um desenho quando eu era criança, que se chamava “Capitão Planeta”. Cada um dos cinco heróis, tinha um anel com poderes da natureza. Quando eles uniam seus poderes, aparecia o “Capitão Planeta”. Meu personagem favorito era o Wheeler que tinha o poder do fogo. Um dos personagens tinha o poder do “coração” e eu achava muito sem graça. 

Mais de vinte anos depois, quando estávamos no jantar de celebração de nossa titulação como Mestres, alguém disse que o Si Hing era o “Punho” da Família Moy Jo Lei Ou e eu seria o “coração”. Que ironia do destino, não é mesmo? Eu queria ser “o punho”... [Risos]

Apesar disso, aceitei de bom grado o convite para me juntar ao Cláudio Teixeira e Roberto Viana, nas práticas coordenadas pelo Daai Si Hing [ 大師兄 ] em sua residência. Dedicamos então duas horas todas as manhãs de Sábado, para praticar entre nós, sob sua supervisão. 

There was a tv show when I was a child, which was called “Captain Planet”. Each of the five heroes had a ring with powers of nature. When they united their powers, the "Captain Planet" appeared. My favorite character was Wheeler who had the power of fire. One of the characters had the power of "heart" and I found it very boring.

More than twenty years later, when we were at the dinner celebrating our Masters degree, someone said that Si Hing was the “Fist” of the Moy Jo Lei Ou Family and I would be the “heart”. What an irony of fate, isn't it? I wanted to be "the fist"...[Laughs]

Despite that, I gladly accepted the invitation to join Cláudio Teixeira and Roberto Viana, in the practices coordinated by Daai Si Hing [大 師兄] at his residence. We then spend two hours every Saturday morning to practice with each other, under his supervision.

Tudo que eu sei e desenvolvi a respeito do Sistema[incluindo minha motivação], eu atribuo ao meu processo de transmissão. Ter a responsabilidade de transmitir o Sistema para outras pessoas, sempre me levou a me dedicar a entender melhor cada vez mais o que estava fazendo, para sempre ser capaz de oferecer o melhor que pudesse. Acreditava que somente ao se dedicar diligentemente a um processo de transmissão, alguém poderia atingir o alto nível. 

Observar o Daai Si Hing [ 大師兄 ] praticando e falando do Sistema é sempre desconcertante. Ele sempre ajudou no Mo Gun nos horários em que lhe era possível, porém ele talvez seja a única pessoa que conheci em 22 anos de prática ininterrupta, que chegou a um nível tão profundo de entendimento através de um processo em sua maior parte intrapessoal. 

Everything I know and have developed about the System [including my motivation] I attribute to my transmission process. Having the responsibility of transmitting the System to other people always led me to dedicate myself to understand more and more what I was doing, in order to always be able to offer the best I could. I believed that only by diligently dedicating oneself to a transmission process could one reach the highest level.

Observing the Daai Si Hing [ 大師兄 ] practicing and speaking of the System is always disconcerting. He's always helped out at Mo Gun whenever he can, but he's perhaps the only person I've met in 22 years of uninterrupted practice, who has come to such a deep level of understanding through a mostly intrapersonal process.

Porém, apesar de todos as melhorass técnicas que estamos tendo sob sua supervisão e da possibilidade de praticar livremente sem me preocupar com transmissão por duas horas semanais. O  ponto alto destes momentos estão mais associados a uma ressignificação da relação. 

Com a ausência do Si Fu, estamos organicamente nos aproximando. E as vezes o Daai Si Hing [ 大師兄 ]fica chateado com pessoas que recusaram o convite de estar nesse grupo sem um bom motivo aparente. Mas eu acho que cada um tem o seu tempo. E por falar em tempo: Quanto tempo nós ainda tempos, para sempre deixar para depois?

However, despite all the technical improvements we are having under his supervision and the possibility to practice freely without worrying about pass down the system to anyone for two hours a week. The high point of these moments are more associated with a redefinition of the relationship.

With the absence of Si Fu, we are organically coming closer. And sometimes Daai Si Hing [大師兄] gets upset with people who declined the invitation to be in this group for no good reason. But I think everyone has their time. And speaking of time: How much time do we still have, to always leave it for later?
