O 1º Mestre de Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) de Rocha Miranda (Rocha Miranda neighborhood´s first Ving Tsun master)

Você que hoje anda aos Domingos de manhã próximo a esquina da Rua dos Rubis com a Rua dos Topázios em frente ao sinal, seja para comprar um galeto, o jornal ou por qualquer outra razão. Talvez repare no senhor que vende DVD´s ali ao lado da padaria. Em sua banca, é possível encontrar os filmes da franquia "O Grande Mestre", estrelando Donnie Yen(foto) no papel de Ip Man, o maior Mestre de uma arte chinesa chamada Ving Tsun (lê-se "Wing Chun") que já viveu. Mas em 1995, quando me mudei de Rocha Miranda , ninguém sabia o que era Ving Tsun... Nem mesmo tínhamos DVD´s, apenas as fitas VHS que podiam ser alugadas na Primu´s Video, na mesma esquina...

Perhaps notice the gentleman who sells DVD's there next to the bakery. In his business, you can find the franchise films "Ip Man" starring Donnie Yen (photo) in the role of Ip Man, the greatest Master of the Chinese Art called Ving Tsun (read "Wing Chun") . But in 1995, when I moved away from Rocha Miranda, nobody knew what Ving Tsun was ... We did Not even had DVD's, only VHS tapes that could be rented at Primu's Video, on the same corner ...

ROCHA MIRANDA'S FIRST VING TSUN MASTER

Me chamo Thiago Pereira , na foto acima, apareço entre meu Mestre Julio Camacho, e o Mestre de meu Mestre: Sr Leo Imamura. Nasci em Rocha Miranda, e hoje queria contar um pouco sobre como no ano passado, me tornei o primeiro Mestre de Ving Tsun reconhecido internacionalmente de nosso querido bairro.

Na verdade, para quem anda hoje nas ruas perigosas de Rocha Miranda, talvez não lembre ou não tenha vivido os bons tempos da primeira metade dos anos 90, quando com apenas 11 anos, podia ir à Festa da Igreja Santa Bárbara sem problemas com meus amigos.

My name is Thiago Pereira,and in the photo above, I'm between my Master Julio Camacho, and my Master's Master: Mr. Leo Imamura. I was born in Rocha Miranda, and now I want to tell a little about how last year, I became the first Master of Ving Tsun internationally recognized from our beloved neighborhood.

In fact, for those who walk today in the dangerous streets of Rocha Miranda, may not remember or did not lived the good times of the first half of the 90s, when I was only 11 years old, and could go to the Feast of St. Barbara Church smoothly with my friends .

Cresci na Rua Vieira do Couto, e meu avô Carlos que me segura nesta foto chegou ao bairro nos anos 50 e casou-se com minha avó, que havia chegado uns dez anos antes. Minha mãe nasceu e também cresceu nesta rua. E assim como eu, estudou no Colégio Salesiano. Mais tarde, conheceu meu pai na Associação de Rocha Miranda. E finalmente em 1983 eu nasci. 

I grew up in Vieira do Couto Street, and my grandfather Carlos ,holding me in this photo, came to the neighborhood in the 50's and married my grandmother, who had arrived ten years earlier. My mother was born and also grew up on this street. And as I studied at the Salesian School. Later, she met my father in Rocha Miranda Main Club. And finally in 1983 I was born.

Rocha Miranda não era muito conhecida fora da Zona Norte. A praia ficava bem mais longe do que é hoje, quase ninguém tinha carros, poucos tinham uma linha telefônica, mas isso não importava muito! A vida era bem mais simples e pacata naqueles dias,e posso dizer que minha infância foi muito feliz.

Porém, em 1995, fomos convidados a nos retirar da casa em que vivíamos e como não era possível vivermos todos na pequena casa dos meus avós no início da rua, nos mudamos para Jacarepaguá. Todos os amigos da rua e da escola, todos os sonhos, ficaram para trás. E quando somos crianças, isso nem sempre é tão fácil de entender.

Rocha Miranda was not widely known outside the North Zone  of Rio. The beach was much far awaythan it is today, almost no one had cars, few had a phone line, but it did not matter much! Life was much simpler and quiet in those days, and I can say that my childhood was very happy.

However, in 1995, we were invited to leave the house in which we lived and how it was not possible to live all in the small house of my grandparents in the beginning of the street, we moved to West Zone. All friends of the street and the school, all the dreams, stayed behind. And when we are children, this is not always so easy to understand.

Quando cheguei no novo bairro, fui acometido por sucessivas abordagens na rua: Pivetes,bullies na escola, etc...  Todas as vezes que algo acontecia comigo, sonhava em voltar a Rocha Miranda, e pensava sempre em todos os meus amigos do Salesiano: Todas as festas, todas as descobertas, todas as risadas que eu estava perdendo por estar tão longe. 

Alugar filmes era minha maior diversão num lugar que não conhecia ninguém. E "Manobra Super Radical" (Airborne,1993) eu alugava quase toda a semana. Contava a história de Mitchell Goose, um jovem que fora obrigado a se mudar da California para Cincinatti, e passava maus bocados até que dava a volta por cima devido a sua habilidade com patins... Mas minha volta por cima, estava longe de acontecer...

When I arrived in the new district was affected by successive approaches in the street: pickpockets, rascals in school, bandits, etc ... Every time something happened to me, I dreamed of returning to Rocha Miranda and always thought of all my friends from Salesian School: all parties, all discoveries, all the laughter that I was losing to be so far.

Rent movies was my most fun in a place that did not know anyone. And Airborne(1993) I rented almost every week. It told the story of Mitchell Goose, a young man who had been forced to move from California to Cincinnati, and had hard times in the new place untill he was back on top ... But my comeback was far from happening ...

As coisas só não eram piores, porque nos finais de semana eu podia ficar nos meus avós. E lá , na esquina da Vieira do Couto no posto Texaco, numa pequena locadora . Meu amigo Junior(foto), me indicou um filme que mudaria minha vida: "O Mestre Invencível"(Drunken Master II, 1994). O filme estrelava Jackie Chan, e foi a partir dele que me apaixonei pelo Kung Fu. Comecei a comprar revistas e assistir cada vez mais filmes. Resolvi então que deveria começar a praticar artes marciais para me defender dos cosntantes problemas que enfrentava na rua e na escola. Mas foi só em 1999 que começaria no Ving Tsun. 

Things just were not worse because the weekend I could stay in my grandparents. And there, on the corner of Vieira do Couto, at the Texaco station, at a small VHS rent store, my friend Junior (photo), gave me a film that would change my life, The Legend of Drunken Master II(1994). The film starring Jackie Chan, and it was from it that I fell in love for the Kung Fu. I started to buy magazines and watch more and more movies. I decided then that should start practicing martial arts to defend myself of constants problems that faced in the street and at school. But it was only in 1999 that would begin in Ving Tsun.

Ving Tsun , é uma arte marcial que ficou primeiro conhecida por conta de seu mais ilustre praticante: Bruce Lee (foto). Mais tarde, nos anos 2000, o Mestre de Bruce Lee, Ip Man (foto), através dos filmes da franquia "O Grande Mestre", fez com que a arte se tornasse famosa novamente.

Ving Tsun is a martial art that was first known because of its most distinguished practitioner: Bruce Lee (photo). Later, in the 2000s, the Master of Bruce Lee, Ip Man (photo), through the franchise films "Ip Man", made the art became famous again.

De tudo que a prática do Ving Tsun me trouxe, a mais importante sem dúvidas, foi a relação com meu Mestre Julio Camacho(foto). Um amigo, mentor, e uma pessoa que me ajudou a me desenvolver como ser humano. Pois ainda que tenha começado a prática para aprender a me defender. A maneira de falar, de me portar, de me vestir, de entender o mundo e a mim mesmo com mais clareza. Foram todos frutos desta convivência.

From all that the practice of Ving Tsun brought me, the most important undoubtedly was the relationship with my Master Julio Camacho (photo): A friend, mentor, and a person who helped me to develop myself as a human being. For although I has begun to practice to learn how to defend myself. The manner of speaking, to stand, to dress, to understand the world and myself more clearly. Were all fruits of this relationship with him.

 Poucos dias atrás , fez 1 ano que fui titulado Mestre Qualificado pela Moy Yat Ving Tsun Martial Intelligence. E várias vezes, pensei que se não tivesse passado o que passei, vivido o que vivi desde que sai em 1995 de Rocha Miranda , nada disso teria acontecido. Não é uma questão de pensar que não seria feliz como sou hoje. É que apenas , viveria uma história diferente. 

Mas para o meu avô, que tantas obras fez no bairro como pedreiro, e para minha avó , tão querida por todos da vizinhança. Estejam onde estiverem, podem estar orgulhosos, pois seu neto conseguiu se tornar o primeiro Mestre de Ving Tsun do bairro que chegaram a mais de 60 anos atrás....

A few days ago, Completed 1 year I was titled Qualified Master by Moy Yat Ving Tsun Martial Intelligence. And several times I thought that if I had not went trough what I lived, experienced what I have since I left in 1995  Rocha Miranda, none of this would have happened. It is not a matter of thinking If I would not be as happy as I am today. It's just that, I would live a different story.

But for my grandfather, who made many works in the neighborhood as a bricklayer, and my grandmother, so dear to all of the neighborhood. Wherever they are now, they can be proud, because his grandson succeeded in becoming the first Master of Ving Tsun from the neighborhood that they choose to live more than 60 years ago ....
