A NEW “BAAI SI” INVITATION IN RIO DE JANEIRO

Faltavam poucas semanas para o 1º Baai Si que ocorreria na minha Família Kung Fu. Si Fu me pediu que buscasse o Si Gung no aeroporto. Acho que o Guilherme Farias estava no carro comigo. Pegamos um engarrafamento muito grande a caminho do bairro de Jacareaguá. Ainda no bairro da Barra da Tijuca, Si Gung perguntou se não gostaríamos de aproveitar melhor o momento com ele. E quando tive a oportunidade, perguntei a respeito do que ele achava do Baai Si que ocorreria em minha Família Kung Fu. Ele teria dito algo como - “ ...Não sei... Você que tem que pensar se foi precipitado ou não. Imagina que os três se afastem logo depois. Como vai ser? ” - Indagou ele no banco do carona enquanto eu dirigia. Logo depois prosseguiu - “...Então isso é algo que você tem que pensar como Si Fu...” - Concluiu. 

O “Baai Si” ainda é pouco compreendido... Quando meu Si Fu falava em “apostar na relação”, eu não entendia a profundidade do que ele dizia. Hoje, percebo que existe um nível em que é impossível que não se haja uma porção de “aposta”. Podem lhe perguntar, sobre como você sabia que “daria certo” uma escolha que você fez. Porém, de fato você nunca soube, porque por mais que tenha estudado as circunstancias, e se atentado aos recursos disponíveis. Parte do jogo sempre foi sorte. E assim também o é, com o “Baai Si”.

I think Guilherme Farias was in the car with me. We had a very big traffic jam on the way to the Jacareaguá neighborhood. Still in Barra da Tijuca area, Si Gung asked if we would like to enjoy the moment with him better. And when I had the opportunity, I asked him what he thought of the Baai Si that would occur in my Kung Fu Family. He would have said something like - “...I don't know... You have to think if you were precipitate or not. Imagine the three of them leaving soon after. How is it going to be? ” - He asked in the passenger seat while I was driving. Soon after, he continued-“... So this is something you have to think as a Si Fu...”-He concluded.

The “Baai Si” is still poorly understood... When my Si Fu talked about “betting on the relationship”, I didn't understand the depth of what he was saying. Today, I realize that there is a level where it is impossible not to have a lot of “betting”. You may be asked about how you knew that a choice you made would "work out." However, in fact, you never knew, because no matter how much you studied the circumstances, and tried the available resources. Part of the game has always been luck. And so it is, with the “Baai Si”.

Quando conheci Lucas Eustáquio com seus 11 anos de idade, ele usava um cabelo em forma de tigela. Me lembrava muito o personagem Daniel, da novela mexicana Carrossel, que eu assistia todos os dias em 1991. Mais tarde, quando ficamos por cinco meses sem um espaço e usávamos casas e locais de trabalhos de alunos que gentilmente nos acolheram nesse período. A casa do Lucas era um desses locais. Ele morava em uma vila, e salvo engano, eu entrava e passava pela sala onde o seu irmão mais novo Daniel estava assistindo algum desenho. Quando Daniel completou sete anos de idade, Daniel começou a praticar conosco. Agora com 18 anos, Daniel foi convidado para o “Baai Si”. 

Si Gung tem falado muito que no processo de “Educação Kung Fu”, o praticante é que deve escolher a arte, o sistema e o mentor. E fiquei refletindo muito sobre isso nos últimos tempos... Então, numa certa Sexta-feira Daniel sentou-se a minha frente antes das atividades se iniciarem. Nessas horas, conversamos um pouco até que os demais chegam. Neste dia porém, Daniel falou sobre seu desejo de fazer o “Baai Si”. Conversamos a respeito, e sugeri que ninguém melhor do que seu irmão Lucas, para ser o seu “Gaai Siu Yan” [Apresentador Formal]. 

When I met Lucas Eustáquio when he was 11 years old, he had bowl-shaped hair. It reminded me a lot of the character Daniel, from the Mexican soap opera Carrossel, which I watched every day in 1991. Later, when we were without a space for five months and used the homes and workplaces of students who kindly welcomed us during this period. Lucas' house was one of those places. He lived in a small vila, and if I'm not mistaken, I walked in and passed the room where his younger brother Daniel was watching some cartoon. When Daniel was seven years old, Daniel started practicing with us. Now 18 years old, Daniel was invited to the “Baai Si”.

Si Gung has said a lot that in the process of “Kung Fu Education”, the practitioner must choose the art, the system and the mentor. And I've been thinking about it a lot lately... So, on a certain Friday, Daniel sat in front of me before the activities started. At these times, we talk a little until the others arrive. On this day however, Daniel spoke about his desire to do the “Baai Si”. We talked about it, and I suggested that no one better than his brother Lucas, to be his “Gaai Siu Yan” [Formal Presenter].

Bom, o que é necessário para fazer o Baai Si ? Tem uma parte que é subjetiva, mas ouvi recentemente algo que me tocou muito. A ideia de você perceber que tem espaço no seu coração, ou simplesmente na sua vida, para o Si Fu e para a Família Kung Fu. Quando você percebe que esse espaço existe e que você é minimamente capaz de bancá-lo, talvez seja um bom momento. 

Ouvindo o Daniel me pedir para fazer o Baai Si, tomei por bom agouro. Lembrei-me de algo que havia esquecido... Eu mesmo pedi ao meu Si Fu para fazer o Baai Si com ele numa lanchonete de um posto de gasolina em Fevereiro de 2007. Eu nunca fui convidado, eu que disse que queria.

 Minha “Gaai Siu Yan” é a melhor de todos os tempos: A minha Si Suk Ursula. Pois em todos esses anos, desconheço uma relação de “Gaai Siu Yan” tão especial quanto a nossa. Bom, pensando agora, a dela com meu Si Fu também é muito especial. É verdade!

Por isso, coube a Lucas consolidar esse meu bom pressentimento, com uma das melhores apresentações que já vi alguém fazer. Era um café da manhã em nosso querido “Café Zoro”, e Lucas com muita eloquência, reapresentou seu irmão agora em um novo contexto. 

A Cerimonia está agendada para o próximo dia 29 de Outubro de 2022, e aqui faço também uma menção aos pais do Daniel, a Sra Andréia e o Sr Fabio, que sempre confiaram no trabalho e que gentilmente cederam sua casa quando precisei. Obrigado.

 My “Gaai Siu Yan” is the best ever: My Si Suk Ursula. Because in all these years, I don't know a relationship of “Gaai Siu Yan” as special as ours. Well, thinking about it now, hers with my Si Fu is also very special. It is true!

So it was up to Lucas to consolidate this good feeling of mine, with one of the best presentations I've ever seen someone give. It was breakfast at our dear “Café Zoro”, and Lucas eloquently re-introduced his brother now in a new context.

The Ceremony is scheduled for the next October 29, 2022, and here I also mention Daniel's parents, Mrs Andréia and Mr Fabio, who always trusted the work and who kindly let me use their house as a Kung Fu school when I needed it. Thanks.
