A LEGEND DIES: THE LEGACY OF RAYMOND CHOW.

Raymond Chow , o lendário produtor de filmes de Hong Kong, faleceu na última semana deixando os fãs dos filmes de Kung Fu no mundo todo, cientes de que uma era havia chegado ao final.
Ele nasceu em 8 de Outubro de 1927, e começou trabalhando sobre o responsável de publicidade entre 1958 e 1970 na Shaw Brothers. No ano de 1970, criou a lendária produtora "Golden Harvest", tão famosa mundialmente também por sua vinheta antes dos filmes.

Raymond Chow, the Hong Kong film producer, passed away last week leaving fans of Kung Fu movies around the world, knowing that the last days of an Era coming to an end.
He was born on October 8, 1927, and began working on the publicity  between 1958 and 1970 at Shaw Brothers. In the year of 1970, created  "Golden Harvest", also known like by its vignette before the films.

Os quatro retângulos que juntos formam um quadrado , seguidos dos dois ideogramas ao seu lado e com o nome da empresa abaixo e com a música tema tão famosa . Se tornaram uma das logos mais emblemáticas da história do cinema. Não só em Hong Kong , mas no mundo todo.

The four rectangles that together form a square, followed by the two ideograms next to it and with the name of the company below and with the theme song so famous. It had become one of the most emblematic logos in the history of cinema. Not only in Hong Kong but worldwide.

Akira Toryama (à esquerda), o recluso gênio criador do mundialmente famoso mangá "Dragon Ball", sempre foi fã confesso de Jackie Chan(foto à direita). Este por sua vez, era a estrela máxima da produtora de Raymond Chow na década de '80.
Desta forma, no primeiro torneio "Tenkai Budokai" da série "Dragon Ball", Akira Toryama homenageia Jackie Chan com o personagem "Jackie Chun" que luta imitando os movimentos do filme "Drunken Master" (1978) e na animação de 1986, fizeram a logo do torneio ser composta como a da Golden Harvest.

Akira Toryama (left), the reclusive genius creator of the world-famous manga "Dragon Ball", was always a confessed fan of Jackie Chan (pictured right). He in turn, was the maximum star of the producer Raymond Chow 's company in the decade of '80.
Thus, in the first "Tenkai Budokai" tournament of the "Dragon Ball" series, Akira Toryama honors Jackie Chan with the character "Jackie Chun" who fights to imitate the movements of the film "Drunken Master" (1978) and in the animation of 1986, the tournament logo will be composed like that of Golden Harvest.

Em 2007 , a matriarca da Linhagem Moy Yat , Madame Helen Moy. Celebrou seu aniversário pela primeira vez no Brasil junto ao Grande Clã do discípulo Grão-Mestre Leo Imamura.
Naquela oportunidade, Grão-Mestre Leo Imamura solicitou que cada Núcleo do Brasil produzisse um vídeo no qual fossem mostradas as atividades realizadas por cada um deles naquele ano.
Fui convidado pelo meu Mestre Julio Camacho a junto do Mestre Felipe Soares, produzir o vídeo referente ao seu Núcleo.

In 2007, the matriarch of the Moy Yat Lineage, Madame Helen Moy. Celebrated her birthday for the first time in Brazil next to the Grand Clan of the disciple Grand Master Leo Imamura.
On that occasion, Grand Master Leo Imamura requested that each School of Brazil produce a video showing the activities carried out by each one of them in that year.
I was invited by my Master Julio Camacho to do along Master Felipe Soares,a video related to his school.

Mestre Julio Camacho criou uma logo da "Moy Yat Ving Tsun" que homenageava exatamente a emblemática logo da "Golden Harvest". Essa se tornava a marca registrada dos vídeos que produzi a partir daquele ano na "Moy Fat Lei Imagination Team".

Master Julio Camacho created a "Moy Yat Ving Tsun" logo that honored exactly the emblematic logo of "Golden Harvest". This became the trademark of the videos I produced from that year on  "Moy Fat Lei Imagination Team".

Raymond Chow ao fundar sua produtora, consegue trazer Bruce Lee para estrelar seus filmes em sua companhia. Isso fez com que a Golden Harvest passasse a dividir o mercado com a Shaw Brothers , e com os seguidos sucessos de Bruce Lee, se tornasse mundialmente conhecida.

Raymond Chow when founded his company, manages to bring Bruce Lee to star in his films in his company. This caused Golden Harvest to split the market with Shaw Brothers, and with the successes of Bruce Lee, became known worldwide.

No filme "Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story" (1993), o ator Kay Tong Lim (à direita) interpreta o personagem Philip Tan (foto) . Que sabendo da presença de Bruce Lee (Jason Scott-Lee) em Hong Kong em razão do falecimentos de seu pai. O persegue por toda a metrópole para lhe oferecer um papel na produção "The Big Boss".
Esse personagem é uma homenagem direta a relação de sucesso de Raymond Chow e Bruce Lee.

In the movie "Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story" (1993), actor Kay Tong Lim (right) plays the character Philip Tan (photo). Who knows about the presence of Bruce Lee (Jason Scott-Lee) in Hong Kong because of the death of his father. He chases across the metropolis to offer him a role in "The Big Boss" movie production.
This character is a direct tribute to the successful relationship of Raymond Chow and Bruce Lee.

O "The Guardian" escreveu o seguinte sobre essa relação de Chow e Lee: "A Golden Harvest contratou Lee para um contrato de três filmes, com cada um quebrando todos os recordes de bilheteria de Hong Kong.
Esses filmes foram seguidos por 'Enter the Dragon'(1973), o primeiro filme de artes marciais chinesas a ser produzido por um grande estúdio de Hollywood, a Warner Bros. Custou US $ 500 mil e arrecadou US $ 40 milhões nas bilheterias. Lee morreu dias antes do lançamento do filme em 1973.
A morte de Lee deiou um vácuo para os heróis do kung fu na indústria cinematográfica de Hong Kong que os jovens artistas estavam ansiosos por preencher. Chow assinou com um deles, um ex-dublê chamado Jackie Chan, em 1979."


"The Guardian" written the paragraph about the relationship between Chow and Lee: "... Golden Harvest signed Lee to a three-picture deal, with each breaking all Hong Kong box office records.
Those movies were followed by Enter the Dragon, the first Chinese martial arts film to be produced by a major Hollywood studio, Warner Bros. It cost $500,000 and earned $40m at the box office. Lee died days before the film’s release in 1973.
Lee’s death left a void for kung fu heroes in Hong Kong’s film industry that young performers were eager to fill. Chow signed one of them, a former stuntman named Jackie Chan, in 1979..."

Em Dezembro de 1983, Raymond Chow produziu aquele que é considerado o maior filme de ação de todos os tempos: "Police Story" estrelando Jackie Chan.
Chan havia tentado, depois de seguidos sucessos, a carreira no cinema norte americano sem conseguir êxito. A série de limitações sobre sua atuação, fizeram com que ele não pudesse se expressar da melhor forma. Quando voltou a Hong Kong, prometeu que faria o maior filme de todos os tempos. E assim o fez. "Police Story"(1983) , foi aplaudido de pé em Cannes no festival do ano seguinte. E até hoje, "Police Story" figura no Guinness Book como o filme mais copiado de todos os tempos. - “O Sr. Chow me deu a chance de seguir meus sonhos”- disse ele à Variety em 2000. “Acho que hoje, sem Golden Harvest, não há Jackie Chan.” - concluiu.

In December of 1983, Raymond Chow produced what is considered the greatest action movie of all time: "Police Story" starring Jackie Chan.
Chan had tried, after successful successes, the career in the North American cinema without success. The series of limitations on his performance, made him unable to express himself in the best way. When he returned to Hong Kong, he promised that he would make the greatest film of all time. And so he did. "Police Story" (1983), was applauded standing in Cannes at the festival the following year. And to this day, "Police Story" figures in the Guinness Book as the most copied film ever. - “Mr Chow gave me a chance to follow my dreams,” he told Variety in 2000. “I think today that without Golden Harvest, there is no Jackie Chan.”

O que talvez pouquíssimas pessoas saibam, é que foi a Golden Harvest que produziu o primeiro filme das "Tartarugas Ninja" (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, 1990) .
Várias matérias saíram no planeta inteiro sobre o quão incrível eram as Tartarugas da Golden Harvest, tendo em vista o estrondoso sucesso que elas faziam com desenhos animados, fliperamas , brinquedos e muito mais!
Dublês incríveis, executavam movimentos inimagináveis dentro das fantasias ,que misturavam borracha e animatronic.

Perhaps few people know, it was Golden Harvest which produced the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) movie. Several news went all over the planet about how incredible the Golden Harvest Turtles were, having in view of the overwhelming success they made with cartoons, arcades, toys and more!
Incredible stunt men, performing unimaginable movements within the fantasies, which mixed rubber and animatronic.

O visionário Raymond Chow, ao ser questionado sobre a razão de ter aceitado produzir o filme, quando todos os estúdios de Hollywood tinham declinado comentou que era uma questão de pressentimento : " ...É muito estranho, muito original e muito interessante ... Você tem que ser único nos dias de hoje para ser um grande sucesso..."

The visionary Raymond Chow, when asked about why he agreed to produce the film, when all the Hollywood studios had declined, commented that it was a matter of gut feeling: "... It's very strange, very original and very interesting ... You have to be unique these days to be a great success ... "

O mundo perde o homem que nos deu Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan , Tartarugas Ninja no cinema, além de muitos outros sonhos em forma de filmes que varreram o mundo entre 1970 e 2003 quando deixou a Golden Harvest.  Sua obra como produtor jamais será esquecida pelos fãs. E sua contribuição para a cultura pop mundial , é um dos seus grandes legados.

The world loses the man who gave us Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Ninja Turtles in the movies, plus many other movie-like dreams that swept the world between 1970 and 2003 when he left Golden Harvest. His work as a producer will never be forgotten by the fans. And his contribution to world pop culture, is one of his great legacies.
