INTERVIEW WITH MASTER MIGUEL HERNANDEZ ON A BRAZILIAN MAGAZINE(ENTREVISTA COM MESTRE MIGUEL HERNANDEZ)

ENTREVISTA COM MESTRE MIGUEL HERNANDEZ EM REVISTA BRASILEIRA.
INTERVIEW WITH MASTER MIGUEL HERNANDEZ(10G VT) IN A BRAZILIAN MAGAZINE.
Capítulo 1: Eu e ele.
Chapter one: Me and him.

This is a picture of me with Master Miguel Hernandez(10G VT), Si Hing of my Si Gung Leo Imamura(10G VT). It was taken on March 15, 2003, with those old cameras where I always appeared with eyes closed.

But this picture is very curious to me for two things:
One is that until then I had never seen him personally, had never seen him do any movement. And if I pass by his side on the street without knowing who he was, I´d never imagined being that he was a so prestigious Master.

Indeed, Si Baak Gung Miguel, had been one day, just a guy with a mustache like Magnum,P.I. who loved Kung Fu. A guy like anyone else who came to train at the Moy Yat Ving Tsun.

But several times Si Gung, or even my Si Fu, spoke of him with great admiration in every story , and it infected me somehow.

Because as soon as I saw him, I knew that was important to take a picture with him, although I did not know "why." I just felt it in my heart.

I came back with pictures of the event where I was by the side of very important people within the Moy Yat Ving Tsun Clan as a whole. And a friend of mine from college at the time, who knew I was practicing Ving Tsun (but never showed anything)was very anxious to see the photos.

(In this photo above, we see an arrow on Carolina Pita, my first friend at University, and also the sister of Phelipe Pita 12G VT, and the another arrow marks me.)

We came together on this bus (636 line), and I was showing the pictures and was talking about who was each person. I remember that my photo with Si Baak Gung  Miguel Hernandez was the last in the album, and she asked:

-But do not have have a photo of you fighting?
-No.
-.... I thought it was about pictures of you fighting!
-So, but this one is one of the greatest Masters, his name is Miguel ... etc etc ...

But she did not care.
I must confess I was a little disappointed because she failed to grasp the importance of this photo.

Capítulo 2: Big-Head e Bambú.
Chapter 2: Big-Head and Bamboo.

Grão-Mestre Moy Yat certa vez contou:

Grand Master Moy Yat once told:

"Hung Chai Hung joined
Kung Fu Family in Lee Tak Street. He was very serious, a quiet guy, but until then Ving Tsun he was less shy. He came to us already with a Praying Mantis background. I met him at Ip Man´s house, and at that time I was very tall and skinny, like a stick of bamboo. Among the kung fu brothers anyone  never hated me, but nobody ever changed their way to be nice to me too. Hug Chai Hung and I then became great friends. "

In fact, when I was younger, I suffered a lot from how can I say ... the size of my head. If you wanted to annoy me or hurt me, I was just talking about that.lol

(Marty Mcfly did not like to anybody call him "Chicken")

And one day, a few years ago after a Ving Tsun session at Meier Studio, Guilherme(12G VT) my Si Dai, was walking with me toward the bus stop and he said:

-Si Hing.
-What? - I said as we walked.
-I sometimes think I am not prepared to be Si Hing.
-Why not? - I asked very surprised.
-Because to be Si Hing must have a self-confidence that I dont have. - Guilherme said.
-And do you think that I have? - I asked.
-yes Si Hing, I think that you have.

For a few seconds, a film crossed my mind. I thought: "There is no guy in the world more insecure than I am. How that Guilherme may think I am self-confidence? I'm just a skinny guy with a big head! I´m not even suppose to be here. "

(Guilherme me ajuda em demonstração durante workshop na Unidade Méier).
(Guilherme 12G VT supports me while I´m doing a demo at Meier Studio in early days.)

But then I remembered my own Si Fu . He had told me when I started there in MYVT Meier Studio, that he did not care if I was doing a "good" or a "wrong" for the members of the Meier as a Si Hing, because he was sure that I was doing with the heart.

And then I also remembered my friend who has failed to take the essence of the importance of my photo with Si Baak Gung Miguel  years before. Because I was also not enjoying myself when Guilherme told me that.

Above, we see an excerpt from a letter written by Si
Baak Gung  Miguel to his Si Dai, and my Si  Gung Leo Imamura, which recalls the words their Si Fu Moy Yat :
"Kung Fu without a system is not kung fu. Kung Fu that depends on a system, is not good Kung Fu"

and ends with: "Always thinking of our friendship, Miguel."

These two ideographs are pronounced as "Dai Tao" or "big head".
But see how interesting.:A leader or  someone who has followers, is also called "Dai Tao." If you are a person who leads or inspires others without anyone notice thate you can be considered a "下大頭" (Ha Dai Tao) or the "leader that moves underneath."

If I knew Chinese when I was little, maybe not let me hurt so bad .. hehe

(Go Yan) como pseudônimo. Onde "Go" seria alto, e "Yan" pessoa.

That was something perceived by Si Taai Gung, when he adopted "高人" (Go Yan) as an nickname(pseudonym). Where "Go" would be "high", and "Yan" would be "person". He played with his height at the same time that he was saying that he was "elevated person."

So thats why my friend underestimated this picture with Si Baak Gung Miguel, and I underestimated the feelings of Guilherme for me. And Guilherme himself, was underestimating himself as Si Hing.

Because you do not need to show anything, you do not suppose to be 100% self-confidence, you do not even have to know the person.

What matters in the end is how you mark someone through the heart. And maybe by marking so well his Si Dai´s heart (Si Gung Leo Imamura) Si Baak Gung Miguel has attracted a boy who was then 19 years old that neither knew him but have the desire to take a picture with him. Because what had come to me, was the size of his heart, not the size of his skills.
